The X-2 antenna is a unique weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.

Background[]

Previously acting as the focal point of the X-2 transmitter antenna array used to maintain the radar-enhanced repulsive field surrounding the Big Mountain Research and Development Center as well as orchestrating long-range transmissions from the facility, by 2281, the antenna, along with both the stealth suit Mk II and sonic emitter, had become integral to the Think Tank's goal of taking back control of Big MT for themselves from Doctor Mobius. Secretly, Mobius had deliberately instilled the goal of recovering the technologies as a means to enforce the Think Tank's cognitive recursion loop and keep them contained in Big MT, intending to steal them once brought to him in the Forbidden Zone to prevent the Think Tank from realizing that they could be used to reverse the brain extraction process that created lobotomites and acquire new organic bodies to pass through the radar fence.[1][2]

Characteristics[]

A two-handed blunt melee weapon consisting of a detached radar pylon where the main support is used as the handle and the shielded Tesla coil serves as the striking point. It deals the third-highest amount of damage per strike of all blunt melee weapons (below the super sledge and its unique variant, Oh, Baby!) as well as having the third-highest caps value. However, it also has the slowest attack speed of all blunt melee weapons as well as the second-highest weight (also below the super sledge and Oh, Baby!). It is however the only blunt melee weapon in the game that has a secondary damage effect, dealing additional EMP damage of 50 points against robots and 20 points against non-player characters using power armor.

Special attack[]

The X-2 antenna has a special Pain Frequency attack that does 200% damage in V.A.T.S. at the cost of 13 more action points (requires a Melee skill of 50).

Note: Melee weapons do double normal damage in V.A.T.S.

It is possible to execute Pain Frequency outside of V.A.T.S. (without the required Melee skill of 50 to perform the move) by initiating a power attack (hold attack button) while moving forward.

Durability[]

The X-2 antenna can successfully strike about 620 times from full condition before breaking.

Location[]

The weapon is located at the top of the X-2 transmitter antenna array, directly south of the Think Tank, found situated above the massive satellite dish on top of the main building that must be reached by taking the access ladder inside the building. Once it is removed from its position, robo-scorpions will spawn inside and outside the facility.

Notes[]

  • If one does not match the Strength requirement of 7 to use the weapon, its already-very low attack speed will be further decreased.

Klein: "[SUCCEEDED] HEAL YOU? WHAT, PUT YOU BACK TOGETHER LIKE SOME GIANT HARD-BOILED YUMYUM DEVILED EGG?"

  2. The Courier: "What is the purpose of the technologies?"
Mobius: "The X-2 Antenna can be used to focus your alpha wave frequency thought patterns. The Sneaky Suit? Why, it houses a cardiac regulator. And the sonic soundwave projecto-emitter was never intended as a weapon. It was a medicinal vertebrae-pulse-de-sensitizer. In short: Brains, a heart, and courage... spine. I think there was a story once where a band of murderous thugs sought these things. They had them all the time in the story. Didn't stop them from murdering to get them, and it won't stop the Think Tank, either."
