Winthrop is the maintenance man/chief engineer of Underworld. He maintains all things electrical or mechanical in the city, as well as the Mister Gutsy class sentinel robot named Cerberus. His name might be a reference to an innkeeper in Baldur's Gate. According to the Fallout 3 Official Game Guide, Greta is his "girlfriend", but this is contradicted in-game, where Greta is Carol's "partner".

[edit] Repeatable quest: This Old House

Main article: This Old House

Due to a steadily declining supply of resources Winthrop requires Scrap Metal in groups of 5, in exchange for medical supplies (Stimpaks, RadAways or Rad-Xs.)

[edit] Inventory

Apparel Weapon Other item On death
RobCo Jumpsuit N99 10mm Pistol

[edit] Notes

  • Winthrop's can repair items up to 54% normally without any perks or bonuses.
  • For every 5 Scrap Metal you collect, Winthrop will give you one of a Stimpak, a Rad Away, or a Rad-X. There is no XP reward.
  • This is a poor deal compared to Walter's deal. Five scrap metal will get you 50 caps and 25 XP, and all of Winthrop's items are worth 25 caps or less.
  • The Outcast deal is also better. Protector Casdin offers the same selection of rewards, but at a much better ratio: 10 scrap metal will get you 2 items from Winthrop, 5 items from Casdin.
  • There is a way around having to give him the scrap metal for the stim packs and Rad Away. If your (small guns skill), (Big guns skill), (Melee Weapons skill), or (Energy weapon skill) is high enough, Skill > 60, you get a special dialogue option that allows you to get 10 Stimpaks and 10 Rad Away. This needs to be done the first time you ask, "What is it that you do around here, Winthrop?" (confirmed). He mentions that he "never wants to see your face around here again" after threatening him, but none of his dialogue with the player changes, and he reacts to the Lone Wanderer's presence the same as he normally would. You do lose karma for doing this.

[edit] Winthrop's Terminal

Notes on the electrical system.

Junction AA76 - Needs a new fuse box

Junction AA84 - Leaking air

Junction AB36 - Relay fan busted

Junction AB40 - This one is just fucked. Reroute.

Junction AC22 - Possibly on fire. Check it out later.

Junction AC67 - Something stinks. A Molerat?

Junction AC88 - Missing parts. All of them.

[edit] Bugs

  • Sometimes this Character may carry an excess of bottlecaps and other items(such as ammunition). The odds of this happening increases highly with the Scrounger and Fortune Finder perks. The amount of caps can range anywhere between 25-400 caps.(Confirmed,PS3)
