The Welcome Center is an unmarked location in Nuka-World in 2287.

Background[]

Before the Great War, the Welcome Center was used to direct visitors to points of interest in the Safari Adventure section of the park. Unbeknownst to guests, the Nuka-Cola Corporation also operated a highly secure cloning facility beneath the center, where experiments were performed on animals such as polar bears and anteaters.

However, a radical animal activist group known as the A.F.A.D. was alerted to the cloning facility's activities. Attacks commenced against Safari Adventure staff, and the Welcome Center was vandalized. With the security team understaffed due to Project Cobalt, an activist managed to contact Dr. Hein on the morning of the Great War, impersonating a park employee in order to lure him out to the Angry Anaconda construction site. The scientist was then held hostage, and the facility placed under full lockdown.[1]

Following the War, the sole remaining survivor, Dr. Darren McDermot, attempted to use the cloning machine to repopulate the world with animals. Concerned by local scavenger activity, he attempted to create a creature to defend the facility and prevent its technology from falling into the wrong hands. Instead, he accidentally created the vicious gatorclaw from the genetic material of a chameleon, an alligator, and a dead super mutant. He was wounded and driven out, eventually succumbing to his wounds in the care of Cito.[2]

Layout[]

The Welcome Center's entrance leads to a mezzanine overlooking the main room, with stairs leading down to the main floor. The center of the room is occupied by reception desks, and its walls are lined with empty display cases and exhibits. The area is initially patrolled by a gatorclaw.

In the back of the room, the entrance to the Nuka-Gen replicator facility is locked by the nearby "Employee's only" terminal, which requires Dr. Hein's passcode to access. Past the door, a corridor descends to the facility's research area, which features holding cages, a cold storage room accessed using a nearby terminal, Dr. Hein's and Dr. McDermot's terminals, and a gatorclaw.

Beyond the research area is the partially flooded Nuka-Gen replicator area, which contains the Nuka-Gen replication machine terminal, a generator, two steamer trunks, an albino gatorclaw, and a normal gatorclaw. After disabling the gatorclaw replication sequence, the Nuka-Gen replication machine terminal will offer the option of replicating gazelles; activating this irreversible function will overpopulate Safari Adventure with the animals. To the northeast is a large pipe with a hatch leading to a terminal-locked exit in the river running through Safari Adventure.
