The Wasteland Survival Guide is a skill book in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Published by Moira Brown (with help from the Lone Wanderer) in 2277, the guide saw distribution throughout the wasteland by travelers. The book provides knowledge on how to survive the harsh wasteland. It became popular, as within a short four years, it had already reached as far as the Mojave Wasteland.

Characteristics[]

Reading this book permanently increases the Courier's Survival skill by 3 points (4 with the Comprehension perk).

Crafting[]

With the add-on Old World Blues, this skill book can be crafted by the Courier.

Notes[]

  • There are no additional copies to be found in the Dead Money, Honest Hearts or Old World Blues add-ons. The Courier can, however, craft an additional one in Old World Blues with blank books from the Book Chute, two wonderglues, and the correct recipe.
  • It is substantially larger than most other skill books.
  • Excluding add-ons, it is the only type of skill book that can be found in outdoor locations.

Behind the scenes[]

The Wasteland Survival Guide was included in the game, rather than the Scout Handbook, to demonstrate the wider impact and influence of the Lone Wanderer on the world, as well as to establish a link between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.[Non-game 1]

"Why wasn't the Scout Handbook from classic Fallout games included in NV/changed to Wasteland Survival guide?"
