Various forms of alcohol appear in all games of the Fallout series. Some forms of alcohol have been separated into separate articles, e.g. beer.

Overview[]

Alcoholic beverages have been available throughout the Fallout series in varying forms. In the "classic" set of games — Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel — alcohol served little purpose, providing no obviously beneficial effects, and being useful only under certain, limited circumstances.

In later games, this was changed; alcoholic beverages in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76 all provide both beneficial and negative effects. Fallout: New Vegas, in particular, places extra emphasis on whiskey through the Whiskey Rose companion perk, essentially turning the item into a combat chem while the perk is active. Alcoholic beverages are generally radiation-free, although irradiated variations exist.

The active ingredient in alcohol is the psychoactive depressant ethanol which is produced by the fermentation of grains, fruits, or other sources of sugar.[1][2] Overconsumption and abuse of alcohol often led to alcoholism and other debilitating effects.

Bourbon appears as a bottle of premium bourbon from "Old Appalachia," aged nine years, although the bottling year is not given. Drinking it grants the player character a temporary boost to Strength and Endurance, but it increases the player character's thirst and penalizes Intelligence until the effects wear off.

Those partaking in the drink were recommended to not operate motor vehicles or heavy machinery for at least eight hours after drinking, and women who were pregnant or likely to become so were advised to avoid the drink.[4] Still, it found success in many of the finer lounges and restaurants across the nation.[5] It can be found after the war in locations such as the Nuka-World theme park near Boston, or at the Appalachian Whitespring Resort.

Created by Ansel at the RobCo Sales & Service Center, this drink is made with one part vodka and grenadine mixed in a glass of bio med gel.
