The Vitale pumphouse (or pumphouse in game) is an unmarked location in the Commonwealth in 2287.

Layout[]

The entrance to the pumphouse can be found just south of Hub City Auto Wreckers and east of Finch farm. It is located near the water. There is a small corridor that leads to the actual pumphouse, containing two rooms. To get into the second room, one will need the combination, which can be found written on the south wall in the first room.

At first glance, the code is apparently written as "0451," however, there is a "1" written higher up on the wall, making the actual code to be entered 10-4-5-1. In the second room, there will be a red skeleton; next to its left hand will be the unique weapon, the Gainer.

Notable loot[]

Notes[]

  • When pressing the buttons to change the numbers, it is possible to click fast to scroll the numbers and not have to wait for the slow button push and release each time.
  • The door to enter the pumphouse's exterior room from the Commonwealth is unable to close properly: In the "closed" position it will have easily enough room to simply walk through. However, in the "open" position it will correctly align with the interior wall (although it clips through the "bricks" behind it.)

Appearances[]

The Vitale pumphouse appears only in Fallout 4.

Behind the scenes[]

  • 0451 is a recurring access code in many video games. It first appeared in System Shock, and would go on to appear in numerous other games. A common misconception is that it references the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, when the code in fact was the access code for entering the offices of the now defunct Looking Glass Studios.[1]
  • Lead level designer Joel Burgess described the pumphouse as "an easter egg within an easter egg, within an easter egg" on Twitter. In addition to the 0451 references, the Gainer is a "quiet high-five" to friend Steve Gaynor and the red skeleton is a reference to the Hideo Kojima game Snatcher, similar to Gibson from Fallout 3.[2]
