Vault 42

Vault 42 is one of the Vault-Tec Vaults. As part of the Vault Experiment, no light bulbs of more than 40 watts were provided. The location of this Vault is unknown.
It is most likely that this vault's experiment was intended to investigate the effects of poor illumination as a possible cause of depression or other psychological damage to the vault residents, although other possible effects under consideration could include poor eye adaptation to daylight conditions upon exiting the vault or increased difficulty of tasks requiring good illumination, such as machine maintenance. This vault's population probably stood a better chance of survival than many of the other experimental vaults; possible failure modes, apart from those common to all vaults, include social collapse due to mass psychological breakdown, or accidents or machine failure caused by people being unable to see properly.
