As part of the Vault experiment, no light bulbs of more than 40 watts were provided. The location of this vault is unknown.
It is most likely that this vault's experiment was intended to investigate the effects of poor illumination as a possible cause of depression or other psychological or physiological effects on the vault residents. Other possible effects under consideration could include poor adaptation to daylight upon exiting the vault or increased difficulty with vault maintenance tasks requiring good illumination.
