Wikia.css editing Edit

I found an issue with that code of yours regarding the wikiarail/sidebar. You see it blocks the talk page button (possible option, move it to the header, next to the navbar?). But I've got a question regarding the talk page button, do you know how to turn it into a proper button, just a white background and lightgray (D9D9D9) border? I've turned the edit button on the mainspace into something like that so it fits really nice next to the search bar, the same style, etc. Although I still need to figure out how to do it for every other darn namespace. p.s. If possible I'd like to get rid of the little speech bubble with the editcount and find a better solution to find out if the talk page has any edits. --Light Daxter - Talk 13:36, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Admin Deadlykris has violated admin and content policy Edit

Admin User:Deadlykris has violated this wiki's stated policy on page deletion. He deleted a page with substantive 2+ hours work behind it that did not in any obvious way violate a reasonable interpretation of the wiki's content policy. He could easily have moved the content into a user-specific area. I cannot recover all this original work because I have no access to the page history prior to the deletion. I would have been happy to move this information into a "more appropriate area" if I'd simply been contacted and worked with rather than having my work trashed without regard or real explanation. WTH you guys understand wikis are collaborative community efforts, right? What kind of admin trashes substantive content out of hand like that?

I'd love to have my work back. Feel free to email it to me or stash it somewhere under my user namespace. i don't care. But I *do* care very much about having my work erased completely with no way to recover it. That is just wrong.

You are not the only one, after a nice run in from them myself and now reading there talk page it seem there is a complete disregard for other users or there contribution. And I was "banned" from the wiki by Deadlykris for several days, because I made "bogus claims" of copyright violating, which prevented me from reporting a certain map that now fortunately has been removed. It's not my call, but it sounds like this admin isn't doing is job like he should.

Van Buren Edit

Image(s) not updating? Edit

Hey Porter. I'm having difficulties with the images File:FO01 NPC Jain B.png, File:FO01 NPC Jain G.png, and File:FO01 NPC Jain N.png. Every time I have tried to update them from their last version (my first attempt at making larger pictures from the game files in Photoshop), it won't update versions. Unless this problem is strictly because of my browser, it's simply not updating the file version when I view it. If you could check out one of the images, and tell me if you see a difference between versions, tell me so I know that at least other people can see the updated one. Page deleted for no apparent reason Edit

Hi Porter,

Few days ago I was curious about how New Vegas calculates damage in combat. I looked through the wiki but could not find any info. After much in-game testing I figured out the combat formula used in New Vegas. I worked out where the game subtracts DT from the damage and where various damage multipliers such as difficulty multiplier, headshot multiplier, ammo type multiplier and various multipliers from perks such as Bloody Mess and Lord of Death. I decided to share my findings with the community. From the Combat page I saw links to Fallout combat and Fallout 3 combat, so it seemed natural to create a New Vegas Combat page with combat formulas used in Fallout New Vegas. Next day the page was deleted by User:Deadlykris. I was stumped. Why was it deleted? Was I in violation of some rule or guideline? There was no warning, no discussion, no attempt to improve the page, just outright deletion. I posted a message on User:Deadlykris' talk page but heard nothing back. Such behavior shows blatant disrespect for the contributions of others. It fits better with the definition of a vandal than someone who should have the best interests of the wiki in mind. I asked on User:Deadlykris' talk page if the information I contributed was elsewhere on the wiki. Was there a better place to put it? If I ran afoul of some rule, what could I do to remedy that? I take that all back. I've wasted enough time on this already. Good day.

Bloglist extension problems Edit

Sorry for bugging you about this, since you have said you won't be maintaining the new skin. I wasn't sure who else I should notify...

The Bloglist extension has been changed by Wikia, so it currently looks bad on the main page. The "create blog post" button has returned etc. Basically, the "display:none" adjustments for it in CSS need to be updated.

Also, the Bloglist extension is completely bugged in all skins other than the Wikia/Oasis skin. (see the main page in Monobook and scroll down a ways; also the Blog feed pages) I submitted an error report about this to Wikia before the new skin even came out, but it hasn't been fixed. I think it can be (mostly) fixed by adding "display:none" for class WikiaBlogListingBox in the Monobook.css. ~ Gardimuer { ʈalk } 21:28, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Lily vandalism Edit

The Lily Bowen page has been subject to a lot of drama over the past couple of weeks. It seems that there are some users who really, really, REALLY want everyone else to hear their (idiotic) opinions about who Leo is, and even though he has his own page, they keep editing Lily's page with their brilliant theories. "Leo is Lily's sword", "Leo is Uncle Leo from Fallout 3" and "Leo is a reference to Seinfeld". Can anything be done about this? I've been checking it every couple of days, and fixing when needed, but it's out of control and moderator intervention would be appreciated. CapAp 01:34, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Floating images Edit

In the now-defunct Monaco skin, as well as Oasis, you can click on an image on a page, and instead of going to the page for that image, it'll "float" in front of the page you're currently looking at. Ammunition templateEdit

I have added in the the line so that icons can now be used as a option as per the documentation for the template, but for the life of me I can not figure out how to make it apply the small option switch for the icon template. I decided to try it out here and add the pipboy icon in the title bar, but at its current size makes it look awful, if resized to the 12px size I think it would fit nicely. I figured a work around that doesn't require any editing of the templates. Since it scales the image to width I simply padded out the images and i think it works very nicely as shown here 25mm grenade. Avatar 17:06, November 19, 2010 (UTC)
Not really, cus it is scaling the height to the width, the width always stays at a static px size, so by padding the width in the image it makes the image longer and so when it scales it it essentially makes the image smaller in height, but does not increase the width that the icon takes within the title bar. At the moment I am only doing it for FNV ammo pages and it seem to be working fine. But I dont know, if its what you think is best? Avatar 17:25, November 19, 2010 (UTC)

Ammo Edit

Given that we're splitting the ammo pages, can the weapon templates be modified to hide the disambiguation (e.g. to display .44 round, magnum (Fallout 3) as .44 round, magnum? Or just simply to accept e.g. "[[.44 round, magnum (Fallout 3)]] as the ammo parameter instead of ".44 round, magnum (Fallout 3)"? (Would require some bot work, I guess). Actually, New Vegas weapons already can use two versions, e.g. all 5.56mm weapons can also use .223. Ausir(talk) 20:50, November 19, 2010 (UTC)

AmmoEdit

Thanks for the mini nuke, I promise not to kill to many ghouls with it hihi. But I aint finished yet, got most the FNV pages up to scratch except the 5.56mm, which I am still leaving for the while as a example for the combining thread in the forums. Also got a good amount of ammo pages split to game only pages and a overview page done to .44 magnum spec. IMPORTANT: Stolen Fallout New Vegas Map Edit

Hey there,

Sorry to bug you with this, but it seemed the fastest way towards a quick solution. Someone appears to have stolen my Fallout New Vegas Map that I and someone else created exclusively for gamefaqs.com and supercheats.com.

It appears it's been on the wiki for almost the entire month. I have never given permission and the image even clearly states it was made exclusively for these websites. Now it is being 'reworked' into a different map, probably without even giving credits to us. I highly regret seeing this map on here, because this seriously affects traffic towards the websites I mentioned. Since this was a paid job, future jobs for me depend on how successful the traffic was and is. With it having been posted here, traffic has been less on the other sites, mainly supercheats.

I kindly request you immediately remove these maps and appropriately deal with the thief, who clearly has no idea how much work went into that map, and who clearly has no idea what the effects can be of stealing someone's work and reposting it elsewhere.

Thanks for your time, and I do believe we share a similar vision: Helping as many people out as possible.

Well, while the main map on Fallout: New Vegas map is clearly a different one based upon the map in the game assets, the ones Absolute Steve linked are pretty obviously based on his work (the first one even says so), so I'm removing them. Well I'm glad everything worked out but also didn't like how he claim I stole his work or being reworked into something else. Even his credits was still on his map which I respected, but like I said before I got the image from a different site. I'm not that evil and stealing others work like this person did

Which is a copy of his work being altered into something else by replace his icons (fyi: I didn't do that). Steve works was cut because it didn't fit on the page but was left on this page for temp reasons, I also moved his image in the gallery because we had no use for it anymore. That image is actually from the Fallout: New Vegas Official Game Guide (so you could probably start a discussion who stole what in the first place, but I don't really see the need - our own map is good enough). Template weapon Fallout 1, 2, Tactics Edit

Still there for me. When I choose a discussion link on index, e.g "Wiki discussion" it will take me to a page. When I click on a different discussion link, e.g "Fallout: New Vegas general discussion", although the url and page title are different all the Topics are the same. User blog comment dating systemEdit

I notice that user blog comments list the date of posting, but only by month and day. This leads to 2009 posts being listed as, for instance, "November 28." I have no idea where this setting even resides, let alone whether it's something we can fix from our end or need to contact wikia staff about. File Maintenance Project Edit

Looked over the active projects; and wanted to work on this one. Thing is, while this project is active, it's leadership is less so. Lead, Ph03n1x is officially checked out, so I wrote to Metalspork. The other project people haven't been inactive for very long- I know this is impatient, I just wondered who may be the current acting lead and what status of 'active' this project might be in. I ve given User:Pu239AndYou some instructions (see his talk page) how to create good images for the npc file maintenance project. I think an image size of around 150 kb, with a good res should be fine. Are you ok with that? Better make a good start from the beginning. One guideline i don t quite understand: -Add a brief description to each image if none exists, preferably including the character name, game, and location.- Should this be added in the box with the license and category lines? --Jspoelstra 02:15, December 9, 2010 (UTC)
In the messages between Jspoelstra myself and you it seems to have come up a question regarding ideal resolution. I was already planning on being mindful of disk space in light that the most use of an image of an n.p.c. is on that character's page and is restricted to a lesser size and that size's max resolution. I was planning on high resolution captures(1400x900 screenshot with ULTRA launcher settings) and resizing them to the EXACT size shown in a character box and not using Wikia's resizer at all, to maintain quality. Since disk space isn't a problem, is there a desire for massive wall poster images, even in compact .jpg that are auto-resized, or would the A-1 %100 best you can fit in the character page box at 14x10 ratio be useful enough to the vault? I'm not certain what that exact size was and was curious if you knew. It's been depressing finding out how little of the necessary knowledge I had to do this immediately; but as quick as I'm figuring it out, the more I find I don't know the more skills I wind up having. Looking forward to providing spec images soon! FYI I have a multiple week holiday trip upcoming soon and I put all my eggs into a hot rod desktop, so I would very much appreciate a crash-rundown of protocol for being AWL, besides posting it on one's profile.

Location maps Edit

Hi Porter. Today i ve been roaming the forum and stumbled upon a discussion about location maps. That took my interest because in the past weeks i ve been adding and replacing map marker images for almost all locations in New Vegas. On that discussion page [[2]] there was being talked about a new map marker image. I looked at the dates of the discussion and noticed that that was almost 2 years ago. Seems it never really took off, seeing the current infoboxes of Fallout 3. Personally, i wouldn t have liked the idea of that map of Wikipedia, also because the infobox would become too long and too full with maps. Now I m not sure you know, but i ve been talking with Ausir [[3]] about replacing the map marker images of Fallout 3 and he has ok'd it. You know by now that i like working with images, and i m looking forward to this project. So i want to do it about the same way as i did with New Vegas, possibly with in a corner a little square box, representing the total map of the game, and in that box, a rectangle (2:1), representing the part of the map that s being displayed. Haven t tried that part out yet, but looks like a good idea to me. On an administrative note, i can t seem to unfollow a few pages on my userpage (some bug i think), can you unfollow them for me? --Jspoelstra 20:34, December 10, 2010 (UTC)

It s a good thing then i informed you about my plans about making those maps for FO3. Would all work have been for nothing. Still think it would have been a nice improvement though. Page layout Edit

When I play Fallout, I usually use my iPod Touch or iPhone to go on to the Vault to look things up. I was wondering if you have control of how the mobile page looks? Mass deleting files Edit

Infobox weapon FNV Edit

Hi, just wanted to let you know I have edited this template, there was a issue with multiple perks that affected the explosive damage. The height of the icon for explosive damage (explosionIcon explosion) was knocking the second row modified damage to the left and the third row modified damage down onto a new line. I have corrected this by inline styling the div for each perk and increased the line-height from 13px to 14px. Also perk needs to be upt to 4 as item like dynamite are affected by up to 4 perks, I would do it but I dont want to mess with the formula as I will most likly break it hihi.

Also had to apply the same formatting to the FO3 weapons info box.

Also I have added in a formula that should now show effects on the dps datarow, its not great but works as long as there is a DPS value, otherwise there is a unexpected expression error, hope all is well with what I have done.

On another note, I never got around to mentioning it, but with the source box edits, personally I think it looks better when both the opening and closing being the same length. When they are differing length I find in some what distracting, as a example.

Update, I forgot to add in a equation to adjust DPS for weapons with explosive damage, I tried to add it in but failed. I know the equation that needs to be added to express the value but it doesn't seem to like it, I am guess I am getting all mixed up with the {{}} and not placing the closing brackets in the right place (God I hate the amount of those that are needed). So I added a simply if statement to not show modified damage on the DPS for weapons with explosive damage effects, but all the straight up impact weapons should still display with correct values. ☣Avatar☣ 00:30, December 24, 2010 (UTC)

Problems with portals Edit

Hi Porter!

I was wondering if you could help me on my Fallout Wiki. You see, on every portal page I create, it looks like this: http://sv.fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout

As you can see the whole portal content is all "pushed" together, because the ads and wiki activity is there. If you compare to the english Vault http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout you can clearly see that the english has more "space" so to speak.

So... where can I change this, so it looks like the english The Vault? (Also keep in mind that my Vault is kinda new, so I may miss some pages, but I don't think so. Although if that's the case, please tell me what I'm missing)

Featured images Edit

Hi Porter, Welcome back, hope you had a good vacation. Been skiiing?

I have read your response on the forum concerning the images, I'm willing to look for more some variety in other categories. I selected location images because panoramic views of locations I think are one of the best eye-catchers. And weapons because they are popular with the wiki-visitors.

And I've taken another look at the project page and have added my name to the The_Vault:Fallout_New_Vegas_locations_project. I'd like to become project leader, also since the other participants haven't been active very much. Or maybe projectleadership isn't necessary, there isn't one now. Issues Edit

Thanks for the update =) Just to address the message you left me:

  • Do you need me to revert the changes I made to the infoboxes, in regards to icons now being fixed.
  • Same again here, do you need me to revert the text colour modifications I made, now you have fixed that as well.
  • Yeah I realised it is a combination of the {{Infobox}} and the way IE handles the box in relation to the interactions box, I decided to change {{Interactions}} as that would only affect the character pages, instead of {{Infobox}} that would have affected a lot larger array of pages. If {{infobox new}} does not suffer from this formatting issue, I may suggest that I make the relevant changes to {{Infobox}} and revert the changes to {{Interactions}} in readiness for {{Infobox new}}, that way when it is introduced there will be no extra jobs attached to its implementation. The actual fix to {{Infobox}} is not that bad to be honest, all it requires is increasing the padding already in existence to the images from 10px to a max of 15px.
  • Let me know if you need any help in regards to the DPS modification etc.

Template Edit

Just found this template (Template:Confirmed-fnv) made by another user, looks like they made it for Fallout: New Vegas exploits page, well I have done some editing and I think it works quite well. I have tested it out on this page as a example (Weathered 10mm pistol), as those who do not patch there game keep adding the bug of missing meshes and I think this template should stop such issues. Also it might work well with the {{verify}} template. I dont know if you can make any use of it at all (maybe change fixed as of date to fixed as of patch, linking it to the patch page), but I thought I would bring it to your attension. ☣Avatar☣ 20:11, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

Creature articlesEdit

Grrr, guess I have to play it by ear until a layout guide is created (and yes defiantly needed, some pages are a complete hack job). How does one go about such a process here, how where the other layout guides made up, I guess it will require a forum post and discussion. Also on the subject of page layouts, after looking at some of the pages on the Wiki and how quickly they get messed up (especially by anons), I came up with a idea that I dont know how useful it would be. But it would be nice if there was a script that say when editing a page reads the info box variants in the edit box, then displays a link to the layout guide for that particular page type, dont know if the workload on something like that would be worth the return. ☣Avatar☣ 21:35, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

Figured as much with the script, especially after viewing your to do list =\ But to be honest most of the issues either stem from the original creation of the pages when FNV was released, or pages that pre-date the layout guideline and have not been updated. For the pre-dated pages I think that is just a project waiting to happen, for the newer content the damage is done and should be updated to spec overtime by regular editors, since the edits by anons have declined from the original launch date. I think the real value of the script would come into play when new content is launched and those pages are created, regularly updated and edited. I have made some edits to the Vault 34 dweller page, but have noticed today that the human survivors lead by Horowitz are also called Vault 34 Dweller. I think maybe the current page should be changed to a creature page and the current one kept as an NPC page. I would do it myself, but I wasn't sure if that is allowed. Should I do it? Location maps Edit

Ohhh forgot to mention, I heard you have something planned for the location maps. I thought I would let you know that I am trying something out with imagemapping on two pages as a trial, 188 Trading Post and Vault 34. I doubt you can make any use of it, as knowing you, you are most likely got something planned that uses a script. Ahhh kk, well I am not to up on the Wiki template syntax, so I dont know how you are going to achieve the centering etc with transclude on the location pages.

Can you make me a special template that requires your expertise. It shall be based on this wiki's template Location but called weaponsbox2. It will be the exact same as template:location except it wont have map marker, cell name and ref id. Replacing them will be unlocked, character build and Weapon type. Also take away the icon at the top-right corner if template:location infobox and, instead of grey and green as main colours, use light blue and dark blue as colours. Just to let you know, Nitpicker was asking about the weapons template and being able to link the ammo type to FNV namespace ammo pages, but not include the namespace in the displayed link. I have inserted a new parameter into the template (ammoname) with a if statement that will change the link displayed name to that parameter if it exists. Everything seems to be fine and it looks like it works, but I thought I would let you know just in case you know of a better way. Or if anything goes wrong, you know who to blame ..... Fallout 3 Overhaul Project Edit

As you may notice, I'm not currently logged in. I don't think I have an account yet for wikia, and I'm rather a newbie at editing pages and all that, so with such in mind, I tend to simply bring up potential important info and q's and faults in talk pages, however, this is a slightly bigger request/discussion/problem/talk to be had.

There are many overhaul projects, but I believe one very important feature is currently missing IMO. (Of note: As of this point in time, i currently only own FO3, though I plan on purchasing the FO1, 2, Tactics/BoS combo classics package in the near future and FO:NV when it better fits a glitch-less condition and price range that is much better for me. I will eventually own all of them, but as said, do not yet)

But I want to start a new Overhaul Project. Fallout (3) Merchant/Store/Shop overhaul project.

On the wikia, there's that thing at the top with the pulldown menu, and if you click on FO3, there's a really handy redirect page which has main access to most of the necessary info to help with a playthrough, but one thing is missing and it seems rather big to be missing... Merchants/Vendors and/or their Shops and Stores. After extensive looking and actually via a redirect page for all FO3 merchants (A category page from Friday NPC from The Pitt add-on that I was looking at) I eventually came across 3-5 different pages, but all are rather bland and don't give all the necessary information. Most can find the merchants, and that's about all the important info on their page. I have noted that on Lock'N'Load's unmarked miniquest "Economics of Violence" and a very limited few specified (rather hard to find pages) shop pages, they actually have more important info, mainly stock.

Mian reasons I think this project is necessary:

1. Knowing the best places to shop. E.G. let's say you favor the Lincoln Repeater, you need a rather rare .44 Magnum Round... which vendor can and usually stocks the most of it so you don't have to hop all around the wasteland or wait/waste days (through the overall game) to get to Lucky Harith at one of his stops?

2. Knowing what shops carry to know if you think they're worth preserving. E.G. Let's say (my exact case) You're a good-aligned char. You need to do the quest "Picking Up the Trail" Note: -You previously attempted a ?diplomatic? solution for Tenpenney Tower, Now Susan is dead. -You previously killed Arkansas while under hostile threat attempting the Wasteland Survival guide. -Perhaps you can take the Karmic hit but you neither wish to lose a convenient doctor in the wasteland nor a VERY good shop (as the pages of Flak'N'Shrapnels makes it very clear that, even though Shrapnel is necessary, due to a requirement of sleeping near Flak, if you enslave him, you can lose his shop permanently; and considering the quality of the shop, you aren't prepared to allow this.)

Should you just gut the place? I was forced to in order to complete "Rescue from Paradise" (even though I took Child At Heart Perk to also get into Little Lamplight easily) Or is Lock'N'Load worth it? ~The pages should help this. Esp. if the project and whoever works on it can get all the right (stock & restock) information on the page)

3. Easier knowledge of good shop unloading points. Are you an obsessive completionist player who can't walk back with anything less than everything? too encumbered to do that? Is there a good unload shop between your destination (probably your home, a good stop-off recoup point between trips, scavenges, and quests) and you? The info is there, on pages like in the Rivet City page, or in the "Fallout_3_merchant" page, but finding a link to that page (I found) is rather hard (could be just me), a direct link on the FO3 page labelled "Merchants" (under Characters) or "Shops/Stores/Vendors" (Under locations) or something similar (Under misc?) would be highly helpful. Maybe someone doesn't know that Agatha or the Temple of the Union can be a stopping spot where an encumbered player can wait for a merchant, the info might be able to make such info better accessible. Or the location of any other (Usually more rare in the Northern part of the map) Merchant can be pointed out from the main page.

4. Related to #2, yet another example. My current dilemma is on The Pitt Add-On, and it brings up a question with Flak'N'Shrapnels shop. The infiltrator, being scoped and silenced is a great sneak-based weapon. That and the Gamma Shield armor, are they Rare, "Unique," or Limited (I know, of coursed that the Perferator, and not the Infiltrator is unique). Mainly the last quest gives a few things: Is it more worth it to Kidnap the baby? Kidnap the baby and then have a change-of-heart, or Kill/Convince Wernher to go away from the start? Is there a reverse where you start vs. Wernher and then side with him in the end? (basically do the mission on Ashur's side, then after everything is over, kill only him for his unique armor and get away with it? without turning his wife hostile for the unmarked ongoing teddy bear quest) The main factors to be weighed are: The shop survival (Friday lives is a pull factor, caps weapons and armor are always of value to the Lone Wanderer), The Karma result, The reward from the victor (The same in both cases, A good perk), and possibly Ashur's Armor (Unique).

If Friday restocks Infiltrators or Gamma Shield armor, then it's not limited, and she's of value, if not, then I saw nothing of value in her stock otherwise. Same issue was brought up with Flak'N'Shrapnel. On the FO3 Weapon main page, it says that the Fat Man is Limited. 11 max with OA. If Flak sells it (I've seen one in his shop), then it may not be limited, but if, like schematics, he never restocks it, then it is, in fact, limited. This can be important info.

I think that's all I can think of for now, I hope I got the point across with this, but I face one main dilemma. I'd gladly sign up and help all I could; however, I am a console player, something noted on the Overhaul Projects main page as a problem. I don't have access to the G.E.C.K.

It seems when vendors restock they have specific items, though. It's like they have a fixed restock inventory of ~50 items of a very specific type and condition and value and it picks 30 at restock. Ammo it picks a random number up to whatever it's max is.

For Example, if you meet Crow (After investment) he can have as much as 4 Combat Armors of varying condition relative to each other; however, he tends to have 2 that stack due to equal condition and value, and one of higher condition than those two and maybe one of lower condition than those two (Maybe more, or the two stacked may be of the lowest condition, I can't remember perfectly as of this point in time) But if you buy these armors and come back after restock, he will have more, and if you buy them they never seem to be of unique condition. If he has all 4, and you buy all 4 and put them all in the same container with the last batch of 4, the armors stack, 2 of the highest quality, 4 of the mid quality and 2 of the lowest quality.

After restock, no merchants ever seem to have one of 54% cnd, 37% cnd, and 12% cnd one time; then 16% cnd, 2 of 36% cnd, and 3 of 43% cnd the next time; then 5 of 7% cnd, 2 of 38% cnd, and one of 71% cnd the next time, the ones that return are always "up to a max of 3 at 17% cnd, a max of 2 at 34% cnd, and a max of 1 at 48% cnd" (for example, not exact). Now there's probably a random generator which determines this, but it seems to select from a specific selection. Someone with G.E.C.K. access might be able to confirm or deny this, but it would take someone with a G.E.C.K. to do so and then extract and write up the information...

Last, I think every merchant should have a general description (including their general stock type), a link to the shop owner(s)'(s) own page from their shop/merchant page (In the general description), A location section (short and simple except for the caravan merchants), a Max/Min caps value at restock section, and a stock/inventory/restock section with the maximum amount of w/e they can stock including multiple columns of info. (More to be added if such are thought of and add important information)

Columns Being: -Item (Name) -Type of Item/Category (armor/weapon/misc/etc.) -Condition at purchase (%) -Value (#) -Max Number that can be stocked at restock (#)

things like Combat armor in which multiple of differing conditions can appear, should have different entries for each differing condition. I.E. if they can have 7 max, you don't have 7 unless all 7 restock with differing conditions (Doesn't Happen as far as I know)

Also, if upon the selling of certain items, they disappear (I think selling weapons to Crow or Misc. Items to Flak, they disappear, if not, I think you get the idea, certain items dissappear instantly rather than taking until the next restock point) instantly, then it is of value noting on the page.

Store information as to what they sell etc. should only be brief from then on, on NPC pages and once the page of the merchant version is complete, something like only the General Description should be excerpted onto their NPC page, the rest just goes on the Merchant page and a Link to all related Merchant pages goes on the NPC's page. (Flak and Shrapnel would have a link to the Flak'N'Shrapnel page each) and the merchant/shop page would include a link to Flak and Shrapnel's individual pages each.

After I send this, I'm going to the help page to get better situated with these wikias... Heh... not sure if I'm responding right.

The main problem was: Though I've been the The_Vault:_Projects page, I have never actually made one of these projects or the page, and as said above, I'm not exactly an expert on Wikia page formatting... the most I know is the 2 equal sign one each side of a title to make it bigger and bold. I do not specifically have knowledge on how to do that, and was asking that you aid with at least project launch. I mostly got most or all of what you were saying and agreed with a lot of it... I did leave off repair skill.

I'm not certain if I got all of my long long message across the first time, and for the most part, I get your explanation of what I noticed. Basically what appears is never truly random, though, and all items can be identified as I thought.

Also, I know that I can help, without access to G.E.C.K. but it was mainly those things, access to that strange special merchant trunk that I would need help with. With it being a "project" and all, I obviously wouldn't expect you to do everything that required G.E.C.K. access. I would expect a bunch of people both with and without G.E.C.K. access to help. I've seen what has been done so far and everyone working seems to be very much so competent at doing great work and working together well... I haven't seen any affected pages yet with any trolls or metaphorical cogs in the vault projects' wheels. I am and simply was asking that you aid me in getting it started with the main page. The overhaul of that page you linked.

(Edit: Not->) Last related point: I'm certain you recognize the link "http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Fallout_3" It's the main redirect page I use to get to anything I'm looking for. Like an Index I mean. It's highly convenient, and I suspect I'm not the only one who uses it for such a purpose. Well, I suspected as much that the Fallout_3_Merchants was mean to be the main info/redirect/merchant index page for all stores shops and vendors, but it doesn't even have a link on the main "index" page mentioned right above.

And in terms of the pages to be "made" I think I messed up my point there. I don't want to make any new pages, I think most exist already, though I'm not 100% sure where they get names for some shops (Boutique Le Chiq or w/e, is that on a sign I missed?) I would just expect the overhaul to take effect on those in the ways mentioned. E.G. the whole Flak'N'Shrapnels which you linked, it would get links to the already existing Flak and Shrapnel pages. (2 individual links in the proper section) and both Flak and Shrapnel would get the appropriate link to their joint store on their pages, simply added if not already there... The store and shop pages all are there already, I believe, but I think they're in the locations section. and info on the shopowners is already their but it's in the NPC pages. Ones covered in the NPC Overhaul Project, the other in the Locations Overhaul Project... the stores seem like under such split management, it seemed like they may not have ever gotten their proper overhaul'age.

P.S. sorry for not using links in the original message. Currently, the comp I have is a good comp, but its S key is broken. I have to stop typing for as much as 5 minutes and mess with it, wiggling my finger pressing hard and it's just a mess, so I have "sS" copied to my clipboard. For the much more common lower case, I hit ctrl+v (paste, which I'm 99.99% sure you knew already) and then I hit backspace, meanwhile, my WPM hardly recognizes the difference. For the less common upper case, I have to hit ctrl+v, <-- (back/left arrow), backspace, --> (forward/right arrow) and then continue... it's almost easier to type out URL addresses from this site... they're rather simplistic and not as hard to type as other sites.

Last, I have a small (maybe medium/large) favor to ask. All of this was brought up with my Friday/The Pitt problem. Can you check the G.E.C.K. on her, if at all possible, and tell me if she has the ability to sell the rare (otherwise limited) Infiltrator weapon or the rare (otherwise limited) Gamma Shield Armor, or if saving her is moot as I've seen everything she has to offer (save the pitt raider armor which I already have more than enough of for my collection-obsessed self) I've seen sold in the Capitol Wasteland. <-- is that the correct spelling of "Capit(a/o)l"? that's one pairing I never got...

Last unrelated point, it came to mind when I was typing the last paragraph of the related message. In the locations overhaul project, many locations in the D.C. area are sectioned off from all other places. Could someone make it more clear as to which exits and metro things access each specified area. Also, to each location in a sectioned part of a map, could they have a pic of the general map with what part that section they're in covers? It could help someone ingame. They could merely look at it, compare to their D.C. map and then put a marker inside the area, hopefully, the marker would then properly take them through the quickest metro tunnel route to get to their intended destination. Rather than trying to give directions to an unnamed map, local map description etc. that may be necessary to try and help someone clearly get to their intended destination. Otherwise a clear line path on a bunch of local maps seems to be the only other easy and clear way to give directions to certain areas. (I.E. Falls Church Metro Station, etc.)

I believe that last bit can be done by anyone with G.E.C.K. access. or access to a completed D.C. map picture, knowledge of the extent of whichever intended section they plan on highlighting, and knowledge of image editting. And Apologies for anything unclear in this last section. If you get the idea, then I'd say you're a genius as, after rereading it myself, I only get what I mean because I already know what I meant when I was writing it... but I see no way to improve/edit my idea aside from improved punctuation...

Sorry for this being long yet again, thank you a bunch for reading it yet again, and I hope you understand all of what I've said and can help.



Okay, HOW do you do that indent thingy? I've checked all over the help and can't figure it out...

I think you've gotten pretty much everything I've said.

1) I did mean the former, and after the 3rd try looking at your link, I finally found the thing you were talking about/understood what you were/are talking about, though still only somewhat get it. I'd still like help in one of two ways. I can make it, then you edit all the errors I'm certain I'm bound to stumble into, or you could do it, and I wouldn't complain, but rather thank you gratefully. Also, a certain/specific name for it would have to be agreed upon. Fallout 3 Merchant Overhaul (Project) sound good, if not lengthy?

2) With that table/pic on the FO3 metro page (which I had yet to find apparently... I still need to get use to navigation here... ) helps a lot, but it still leaves out info. 1. pics of the local maps of the non-world-map-placed unnamed metro under tunnel "rooms" that go from one to another to get places. I.E. to get to GNR, my map marker took me to the metro across the river from Megaton (Farragut West Station?) through 3 loading rooms. One of which has no location on the world map b/c it never even connects to it. Now, is that faster or is walking the additional ~2-3 boxes to Friendship Heights Station faster to get directly to Chevy Chase North? (I currently question it b/c a glitch I believe caused by my game thinking I'm actually already ahead in the game, into Broken Steel, has me now run across 90% of the wasteland about 3 separate times just to run into the presidential metro door which is locked and leaves me stranded, unable to perhaps fix said glitch... meanwhile, when I could be standing right next to Megaton and it would be as such regardless). Basically the general knowledge and estimation of the length and distance of each route from one spot to another changes. Some metro junctions are closer and have less load screens to get to your spot. It's hard to tell though without having gone everywhere underground... thus a little highlighted portion of a world map pic on each page might make it easier. Put a marker anywhere in the section > Supposed fastest route there. That one extra image on each page, and letting the kamikaze map take your there via the roughly-shortest route possible, or kind of guess it with the rather unmapped metros... OR, make maps like the World Map page where the locations of exits. etc. are marked by a specific link, of which takes you to that page, just like clicking the Blue megaton square on the world map page takes you to megaton. (still sounds like more work). Or leave it all alone. I just see a potential way to "improve" it with a simple picture on each page.

-now that I thought of this, each such exit page has a rough local map of itself. all it would take is that completed world map pic, the local map pic and line it up via one world map marker (e.g. mama dolce's) then enlarge and line up any second working marker (a metro or I think the Arlington cemetery north or Hubris Comics are also there.)

1. load local map into adobe.

2. change the color of local map with color saturation effects/tool

3. load the world map in a lower layer.

4. Overlay the local map and enlarge/shrink to correct size.

5. apply proper transparency.

6. screenshot or simplify layers to oen regular image and save as a finished, cropped JPEG.

7. upload and add.

Don't get me wrong, I know about all of these tools and effects, but only vaguely/generally and in theory. I can't do all of this. My sis might be able to. There's already 11.8+k pages on the FO wiki, I'm not certain one more uploaded image on each "Enclosed-Surface-Area" page would cause trouble.

3) I think this is it... I'm tired myself right now, I hope *I* didn't miss anything. (If you know how to fix the BS glitch and it's easy to explain or there's an easy to find link to the glitch-fix, feel free to say so). Ahhh ok, cus for me it is doing it in Chrome, but not in FF. For some strange reason in Chrome it displays it inside <audio> element and in FF it displays it in a <video> element. Now if I use Firebug in FF and change it to <audio> the same problem occurs, and vice-versa in chrome changing to <video> fixes it. You remember that idea I had a while back about scripting off the infobox type to link to the article layout guide. There was also the idea you had about removing the section tab and using script to insert text at the users end. Uhm... I recently did a fairly large edit on the Fallout 3 exploits page. I'm not sure if or how you can tell exactly what I changed, but it was just a bunch of orderless stories.

  • A lot had categories and etc. in common, so I mainly rearranged them in order, and made a few main topics and titles to put each individual topic under. I tried to keep away from adding any new exploits I knew about (except for the original one I planned on adding... I was putting it in Weight but after reading the Clean-Up stub, I decided to move most of it that I thought went against the stub to the exploit page as it can be considered an exploit, and left the rest as a new category).
  • Also, should the Add-On exploits be there? If there was one already, I left it; I only added one in, but just decided to make it a quick excerpt which linked to the exploit page of the Add-On it was related to.
  • I added one Exploit and made the Traveling Category to put it under.
  • In reference to that, tell me I didn't end the world or do anything atrocious when I also edited Weight. I added the last, new header/category and the related section/paragraph. It was something I realized while playing.
  • Last, considering you can pick up bodies, should Grab be changed due to the fact that a body is a temporary container? (Last large paragraph above where the Notes section starts. It says containers cannot be picked up)
Someone needs to edit Weight, it seems like a relatively easy and quick project compared to the changes some other pages need.

Baja Rangers Article Edit

I'd really like my contribution to remain, and be added too. It seems an anonymous users believes the Baja Rangers are exactly the same as the Veteran Rangers just because they use the same equipment and similar characters reference them, but I believe the 'Baja Rangers' to be a distinguished group within the Veteran Rangers devision -- much like the 'Misfits' are special group within the NCR Soldier devision.

Keys / backlog deletion files Edit

Hi Porter, I like what you're doing for the key pages. Having individual pages for keys was a bit exaggerated. Now people have all info about a key listed on a nice overview page.

About the nominated for deletions files, remember your suggestion about letting a bot delete those files? The progress is slow and of the few thousand files I nominated the last few months I've seen about 5 return to me. They are cluttering the categories now and I'm having trouble spotting which ones I marked and which not.

Adminship Edit

Its not really about maintenance issues from the way I look at it, hell I probably do more of that than most of the Admins. Its more dealing with anons and there abusive nature towards Admins (well thats just one thing). I do actually find that once they realise I am not a Admin, they are more open to debate and discussion, instead of a aggressive/defensive stance and lack of reasoning when speaking to a authority figure. Perfect example would be taking down videos in violation of policy, I see admin pages get slammed by the users all the time. Yet when I do it which is just as often as the admins, very rarely do I even here a word about it. Unfortunately, the issue is still in place. :( I can't figure out how exactly affected articles are different from unaffected ones. I tried to use a template on my sandbox, but with no success. NPC infoboxEdit

Do you know what infobox is proper to use for these NPC's. The one on Aaron Kimball looks nice but is missing the alignment. The base template at Template:Infobox character does not include tag skills or derived stats of health and level. I am going to leave this on porter's and goth's pages as well. Featured Articles Edit

I noticed that during the last bot run, when PorterBot was "standardizing featured article formatting" it had to change the template's formating so it could put the content inside of the featured article template. But whenever there was a link in the caption of the image, then the set of square brackets at the end of the link were recognized as the end of the image, so the part after the brackets was left over in the content of the template.

Here are two examples:

Hey, i recently made my own wiki and was wondering how the userbox is coded because all i can find is how to use it and i was trying to get an idea from the code. Do you know where i can find it?

Paper notes / holodisksEdit

Hi Porter, I see you're busy with the skill books and -magazines page overhaul. If you should decide to merge the notes and holodisks, I suggest the name Notes and holodisks or Paper notes and holodisks.

Both names should be in the link, I think. Otherwise people will be thinking where's the one or the other.

Templates in Dead MoneyEdit

Say Porter, I'm working on DM quests right now and I've noticed that when defining the first line of the template to Dead Money, so the game parameter (|game=FNVDM) the infobox results in a red link. When defining it with FNV it's orange, and characterized as a New Vegas quest. I'd rather have the Dead Money link, so till now I've used FNVDM.

My question is also for the other Dead Money pages, like weapons, clothing and so on. What needs to be used ? With a Dead Money character the game parameter FNVDM works fine, I believe. Then the infobox-link is orange. Jspoelstra 22:53, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

Character overview pageEdit

Personally, all those red crosses (it's gonna be a biggg table) hurt my eye. Maybe another, more eyepleasing icon? And it's ok to you if the GECK ID goes? There's probably not much done with it, still I think it's significant enough to stay.

I've done some browsing on the wikimedia page and found the icons I just uploaded. You mean something like these? I like the red one better than the red cross we have now (for the overview page anyway). And I would like to keep baseid, refid and also geckid. If there's no room, then the geckid can go first. I like baseid and certainly refid (I use that one often to transport) to stay.
To be honest, when comparing the icons I just uploaded to the icons that are used now on the wiki, I like the current green checkmark icon and red cross icon better. They have a clearer meaning and will be better understood by the users I think. Just for the overview page all those red crosses are annoying and on that page my uploaded red icon should work out better.
  • I've also uploaded a cross image, maybe you can try out if so see if it's any better on the overview page.

I'm not in favor of that. In my opionion, for voting we need a green checkmark and a red cross, like we have now. I've tried out your suggested icons, and I still like the ones we have now, better. I've done extensive research with all sorts of icons in my sandbox and think the green checkmark we have now and the red cross I uploaded yesterday (so the first table) are the best solution for the overview page (the red cross could perhaps replace the one we have now). They correspond well with each other and the red's not too hard on the eye. Or maybe the sixth table, I like that one second best, but this green checkmark does not stand out as well as current green checkmark in the table. The red cross you gave me a link to is too hard on the eye.

  • Update: couldn't sleep over it so here's another point of view. Maybe the 2nd table isn't too bad either. The green checkmark stands out very well against the vague round red icon. And it's the green checkmarks what people will be interested in, not the red icons. When using the first or sixth table, like I suggested above, the red crosses still overwhelm the page somewhat (though it's a lot better than with the current red crosses). The only table where that's not the case is the 2nd one. And still people can see it's filled in. I'm not sure what's best yet, what's your opinion of it?
  • I have tried out a lot of options on that character overview page in some sandboxes and changed the actual page to the one I think is best. I used the green and brown checkmark and a straighter, lightened red cross. Hope you like it. Shall we merge the Base game table and the Miscellaneous locations? Character overview pageEdit

I have merged the tables of the FNV character overview page. I have 3 variants of red crosses now. I have placed the darkest one on the overview page, the lightest and 'in between' one in my sandbox. I think it's either the current one or the in between version. That's because you want to replace the current red cross with the new red cross and I think the top one in my sandbox is too light for the interaction box. What do you say? (I have also given Avatar a post).

  • I have made your suggested icon a companion template and changed the FNV character overview page icons back to yes (+ tooltip) and no in my sandbox. If you overwrite the current yes- and no-icon with the new ones it should change my sandbox to the correct format, so that I can replace the current FNV character overview page with the one in my sandbox. Camp Guardian daily logEdit

I noticed you reverted my edit on the FNV holodisks and notes overview page. I just wanted to let you know I wasn't ready yet with editing. By the time you reverted it, I was decapping the word Log Page to Log page on the Camp Guardian daily log page. After that I wanted to do another update on the overview page, this one: [[Camp Guardian daily log#Log page 3|Camp Guardian log page 3]] and so on.
