Helping an admin with adminsEdit

Hi, I need a little help with the Swedish Vault, if that's okay. I want to give another user admin-rights, so I looked up how to but for some reason I can't find find the right page. I don't know if I can grant anyone those rights, so maybe it's because of that. So please, could you either write down a quick guide, or maybe fix it yourself if I can't? The users name is Tobulos1, in case you'll do it yourself. Thanks, --KillerIsMe 17:16, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout 3 Paper NoteEdit

Looks like some spammer got to this page and decided to have some fun with it, needs to be restored. Mr Zurkon 10:46, February 11, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout Bible 3 Edit

Seems like there's a little discrepancy between the .pdf and .doc versions of Bible 3. This bit is in the .doc but not in the .pdf:

Web guys
For any translators, I have a version highlighted in green that shows all the changes except for the segments that I chopped out (which you'll probably need to check against the old translation).

I would send a warning to any translators that the timeline below can and probably will change again, so they might want to hold off until another draft (and at least until the public can throw their comments in for any errors I may have included).

In addition, there are also the mentioned green markings in the .doc's timeline table. I assume we are going to keep that translator blurb and the green markings? -- Porter21 (talk) 19:34, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

New look Edit

It's Ausir, baby! Ausir!--Gothemasticator 21:16, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

I'm with him, excellent choice. Now, just take a few showers to wash out the formaldehyde. :) Nitty Tok. 21:40, February 9, 2010 (UTC)

Strip Edit

Argh... I do that every time, don't I?! I'm always forgetting redirects and moves... Nitty Tok. 00:25, February 11, 2010 (UTC)

Holodisk Edit

But hey, what canonical material supports your supposition that 'the military and its successors, like the Brotherhood of Steel, had access to high-density manufactured-crystal holodisks that could hold as much as 4,000 gigabytes (4 terabytes) of information"?. Vree's dialogue file doesn't. I don't think that any canonical material (game and official game materials) describes the variety and storage capacity differences of holodisks any further, therefore it would be suitable to leave it open for everyone's personal interpretation. Please consider. =)

Re : Holodisk

Fair enough... Also thanks for the addition of VDSG reference.

Image UploadsEdit

Sorry, I'm still learning how to use the wikia, can I remove the copies I uploaded?

Thanks, that makes a lot more sense to me now, but is Boulder Dome really a category?

Ahh. So, besides the comments you've left me so far, how am I doing with these new pages?

RE: thats good to hear, and as you can tell, I'm focusing on Van Buren right now. So if you see anything you don't find up to par, don't hesitate to tell me. Thanks! Ghouly89 22:21, February 12, 2010 (UTC)

Scan Edit

Sorry, i don't have anything in my house capable of "scanning". Unless an old printerwould suffice, but i have no idea how to perform a scan anyway. You can, however, go to the website and watch for the Article to appear on the website. 19:14, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

Hi ausir. I just created the (FO:New vegas Hardcore Mode) article.

Please can you tell me if it's ok please

Musicians Edit

Ok, I got it now. Thanks. Shadowrunner56 01:04, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Ausir, is there something going on with the image uploader cause I can't upload any pics now? Shadowrunner56 02:54, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Kay, it's fixed now. Shadowrunner56 03:06, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

I'll change it. Shadowrunner56 03:22, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Sidebar Edit

I haven't removed it, I only moved it further down so it's in the vicinity of the other editing-related menu items rather than in between the content ones. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:17, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Game icons Edit

I think we need to come up with a better way to handle the game icons for subjects which appear in a lot of games. The amount of icons in articles like Brotherhood of Steel or Vault Boy is a bit over-the-top in my opinion, and it's only gonna get worse in time. What do you think? -- Porter21 (talk) 10:53, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

It's a decent idea, although it'd still leave us with a considerable number of icons. I was thinking about maybe introducing an "all games" icon (however that'd look like) which would link to Fallout series or "Appearances". I guess that'd help with the extreme cases; we could still employ your idea for subjects which don't appear in every single game. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:24, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Thing is, removing the canceled games bar VB doesn't really have that much of an effect. In the BoS article, it'd mean 4 less icons - but it's still missing the FNV icon which it'll likely get. Taking into account that the "more" icon will need space as well, we'd be down about 2.5 icons from the current number (1.5 for the Vault Boy article). Cue FO4, and we're basically back at the current point.
Plus the webcomic isn't really a game. I would keep stuff like it or the Fallout Bible separate from the "all games" icon anyway. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:54, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Good point, guess I'll have to think about it a bit more. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:38, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry Edit

hi Ausir, Sorry about my rubbish edits i just need a bit of advice on how to edit articles and what to add:)-Tommygunner32-24:26-Febuary 16-2010 (UTC)

Interactions with the player character Edit

As you've probably noticed, I've been working on a template for standardizing the "Interactions with the player character" sections in FO3 character articles: Interactions FO3. In 90% of all articles it's always the same stuff anyway, and I think this is clearer and encourages a more complete coverage. For characters with non-standard interactions, the section could be split into "General interactions" (with the template) and "Other interactions" with a description of the special stuff. What do you think?

The template is FO3-specific for now but I can make similar ones for the other games as well if someone gets me a list of stuff that should go in there. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:38, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know, I'd rather not repeat stuff which should be on the quest page - it just leads to conflicting and/or incomplete info. If anything, I'd rather include a brief mention in the "Background" section if the quest is significant to the character's backstory. For example, in Moira Brown's case I'd simply put "In 2277, she is looking for an assistant to help her write a Wasteland Survival Guide." -- Porter21 (talk) 19:06, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the short sections always lead to people adding details to them. I tried to maintain short intro sections for the unmarked quests for a long time, but eventually I gave up since people just kept adding stuff in the wrong place (the article with the short intro section) despite there being a comment not to do it.
Plus as I already said, as far as the quests flesh out the character it can go into "Background". In the Brown example, her experiments, disregard for the life ort her assistants and the desire to write a book are part of the character's background and personality, as is her getting sent a Replicated Man holotape because she's versed in mechanics. I'd rather have a good "Background" section than splitting the info across multiple sections. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:22, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I agree that the "results" part should be in there. I'd rather have a bulleted list with one or two sentences each than own sections for each quest with a quest description. How about:
-- Porter21 (talk) 20:00, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
Final suggestion:
-- Porter21 (talk) 21:30, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

Could you make a list of things such a template should include for the classics? I don't know enough about their gameplay to do it myself. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:43, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

The "Final Suggestion" setup looks good to me. There's still room for bloat to occur, but, hey - it's a wiki. The template will really help streamline the NPC pages, though. No more straggling mezzability notes, yay! BTW, "enslavable" linked as you have it is a clever solution to the phraseology.--Gothemasticator 10:16, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

Ammo types Edit

Hey Ausir. I'm caught in a bit of a dilemma. We've got pages for JHP, FMJ, and AP ammo types, right?

What about ammo types like 4.7mm Caseless or Flamethrower Fuel, which don't have a given type? Under the ammo type heading, we're mostly just putting the ammo name.

Could we possibly make an article for standard ammo types? Types that aren't one of the three? Nitty Tok. 01:29, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

Alright, just call it Standard Ammo, use "S" or "SA" for the ammo type? Nitty Tok. 01:32, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
Well, you can't call .45 or the ones I mentioned above AP or FMJ, can you? Nitty Tok. 01:34, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
I would prefer it, because then we'd have a place to list all the oddball ammo types in one place with a table, like I've started to do on Jacketed hollow point. Nitty Tok. 01:36, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
Mmm. Okay then. Any chance we could remove the automatic link in that field so we can safely put "none" in? Nitty Tok. 01:43, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

Look at the OXM UK scans again, look closely at the Grenade Machinegun shot, you can clearly see two Masters and a Brute there. Mmm, Crispy... 16:03, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

True, this early in production they would likely need placeholders for certain images. Mmm, Crispy... 16:08, February 17, 2010 (UTC)
Plus OXM UK have a horrible history involving image prints. Their very first Fallout 3 preview contained grey mutants and other monstrosities, it took 2 months of searching to get clean coloured images. Mmm, Crispy... 16:10, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

Administratorship request. Edit

I would like to make a small request. I was wondering if I could be granted administratorship. NukeWEEPツᵒ ᴴᴬᴵ☃ 07:49, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I'm not exactly asking for the aformentioned request, but do you grant administratorship based on the exact requirements under the respective page, or what? Ghouly89 00:05, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, so its more of a community type of choice? Well I'll just make sure to keep on your good sides then. :) I intend on making the Vault better, so maybe it will come in time. Ghouly89 00:11, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

New Vegas scans Edit

Only the magazine scans, I assume? I.e. trailer screenshots are fine? -- Porter21 (talk) 08:45, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Sucks a bit, but to be honest I was kind of expecting it. Maybe we should make a forum topic and/or update the sitenotice to let people know they shouldn't upload any scans? -- Porter21 (talk) 08:51, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Wait, so they ban you from their forum, and this is how they repay you? We can at least restore the deleted pictures when the magazines are released, right? Nitty Tok. 15:02, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Ah jeez. Okay, keep an eye on, got it. Nitty Tok. 15:09, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

bobbleheads... Edit

hey... is there gonna be any bobbleheads in fallout new vegas...

Lone Wanderer birthplace Edit

Ausir, I'm short of time and will be for the weekend. Would you care to look at User_talk:Ph03n1x? He's making a case that the Lone Wanderer was born in Vault 101, and I just don't have time to discuss it with him. Thanks.--Gothemasticator 17:40, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

So, things like that shouln't be put in? Ghouly89 23:43, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout Bible 0 Edit

Sorry, no idea how that happened. Certainly wasn't intentional. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:19, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Seems like it :P Likely I misclicked when closing the browser window before I went to bed. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:46, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

You should ask Her instead of me. Mmm, Crispy... 17:59, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Achievement/trophy info on Fallout 3 quests Edit

I'd like to get rid of the achievement/trophy info on Fallout 3 quests - after all, we already have Fallout 3 achievements and trophies, so there's no need to double-list the info in my opinion. Accordingly, I'd like to split the "Quests and achievements" sections on the main add-on pages into "Quests" and "Achievements and trophies". I think that'll reduce clutter and be more clear. What do you think? -- Porter21 (talk) 18:39, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

I'd rather use the available space to make multiple columns for rewards (to account for alternative rewards), locations (to make start/intermediate/end locations clearer) or add quest IDs than repeat achievement info on yet another page. The achievement info is listed on the individual pages, Fallout 3 achievements and trophies, Fallout 3 quests and on the add-on overview pages.
Regarding add-on pages, it's simply a clearer setup. Instead of having to read over the quest sections and then see whether there are other achievements listed elsewhere, there'd simply be one section where you can see them all. Except for OA, all of the add-ons have at least one achievement which is not granted for quests (TP: Mill Worker, BS: 3 karma achievements, PL: Bog Walker, MZ: Alien Archivist). -- Porter21 (talk) 19:18, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

New ZAX Article Edit

Hey, I am considering creating a whole new article right now for the ZAX in the Boulder Dome. I just don't know whether to associate the ZAX to the Dome, or to Van Buren itself. Should I just Title it ZAX (Boulder Dome), or be more general and say ZAX (Van Buren)?

Okay, now I know that. Ghouly89 20:18, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

I think it's about time ZAX gets a disambiguation page, since there are so many pages with all nearly the same name. How can I make one of those? Ghouly89 02:25, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
So, an overview page? Okay, I can do that, but what layout would such a page have? Ghouly89 02:31, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, but if the job becomes too tedious for you, I can add in the information for you after you make the general outline and such. We all know you're always busy :P Ghouly89 02:43, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Images needing to be uploaded Edit

To be more specific, the article Amenities Office needs a picture. Should I get a screen shot of it, or is there one somewhere on the wikia already? I don't have the best of luck with images that need to be uploaded. Ghouly89 21:14, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Dialogue FilesEdit

Are dialogue files supposed to be written so that the reader has to scroll across the page to read them? That format is just bothering me. Ghouly89 22:53, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

I'll see what I can do tomorrow, could be a bit tricky. In either case, I think we could use a special full-width-version of notebox as there's no need to account for infoboxes here (the reason why notebox is not full width). -- Porter21 (talk) 23:21, February 20, 2010 (UTC)
The bot is currently working on the Fallout dialogue files. Let me know if you notice something being amiss. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:02, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
FO1 and FO2 dialogue files are done. Not sure whether I should convert the FOT and VB "dialogue files" as well, might end up breaking more stuff than helping. -- Porter21 (talk) 14:54, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

GotY Guide Edit

Yes indeedy, picked it up today! Nitty Tok. 00:12, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Well, it does call the statue at the bottom of the Dunwich Building "Ug-Qualtoth", labels it as a Ghoul, and states that the Swampfolk worship it, but I haven't noticed anything beyond that. :)
If it's not incorrect, everything's good to slap into the articles, right? Nitty Tok. 00:16, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, got it. And no, I don't really use any instant messengers. Not sure how that's relevant. Nitty Tok. 00:19, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Nope. :P Don't own a photo scanner, and it's not much to look at. Nitty Tok. 00:25, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

I still haven't received that game code thing from GoG.. Lol, yes, I'm still bothering you about that. Mainly cause I want to get F2 so I can play FOnline. //--TehK (tok) 05:07, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Disambigs Edit

Yes, that made sense. o.O

It doesn't mention anything about one character getting special treatment over the other. What determines which Micky is more important? Nitty Tok. 14:23, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

So, would that mean that Jericho (character) takes presidence over Jericho (town), seeing as VB was canceled? Nitty Tok. 14:30, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll put Agatha back. Good luck trying to explain that on the guideline page. :P Nitty Tok. 14:36, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Large bullet Edit

Hey Ausir, where does it say that the Large bullet ammo type is .44 magnum? I'm looking at the guns that use it and wondering if it's supposed to be .50... Nitty Tok. 19:25, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Well, .50 sounds a lot more likely than .44 for Deagles and machine guns. Should it be changed? Nitty Tok. 19:31, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
Then why is it on the .44 magnum overview? :P Nitty Tok. 19:38, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

9mm Mauser Edit

Can I ask why you removed the For link to Chinese pistol? Nitty Tok. 22:23, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

Ah, okay. Didn't notice that! Nitty Tok. 22:26, February 21, 2010 (UTC)

External Links Edit

They don't seem to be working. I am sent a "No such special page" page here, instead of being sent off site. -User:Dude101

Try any of the external links on the Fallout Tactics 2 page. E-links on other pages are working, but not on that page for some reason. I hope I haven't finally become E-tarded - User:Dude101
Strange. I tried another browser as well, just to make sure it was not something to do with Firefox being rubbish. But I am still sent here. No matter -User:Dude101

New Page Edit

The page Character Creation Guide was just made, and frankly I think it needs A LOT of work. Actually, I even think it isn't even a neccessary page, considering the walkthrough for Fallout 3 has a guide in it already. Check it out for me, because I'm not the person to tell what's right or wrong. Thanks! Ghouly89 04:02, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Oh yeah, and the user who made it is really new to the Wiki, (apparently joined today), his name is Zexalin. Ghouly89 04:10, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

A Tip Edit

Here is a tip, but i'm not sure if it would work becuase this Wiki is much much bigger than the office: Wiki (Dunderpedia); anyways you or another Admin leaves a message on a new Users Talk-Page, it made me feel welcome and explained a lot of things about wikis when i joined. thanks --DonnyMost 23:23, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Boulder Edit

Hey, I think there is a problem with having the Boulder Dome (page) being like a 'combination' of the actual city Boulder, and the dome itself. I propose making the two separate pages, because the boulder dome is not nearly everything included in the city. Do you approve? Ghouly89 05:47, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

EDIT: I'm having a problem with making the new page, namely because of the re-direct from "Boulder" automatically to "Boulder Dome". Is there any way to cancel redirects? Otherwise, I might have to title it Boulder (Van Buren). Ghouly89 04:06, March 3, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that's how its done. Thanks! But on another note, would you prefer to have an instant messanger for little messages like these, or is this fine? Ghouly89 04:21, March 3, 2010 (UTC)

Navboxes Edit

Hey, do Navboxes have a limit to how big they can be? I added the locations to the navbox for Quests in Van Buren, but it only shows up to the first 8 or 9 places. Ghouly89 08:42, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Concerning Nicknames? Edit

Hey Ausir.

My handy-dandy guide lists Princess' real name as "Angela". Should I move it over to Angela, or leave it at Princess? Nitty Tok. 17:07, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Alright then. Same for others, like Zip (Ricky) and Lucy (Lucia), I assume? Nitty Tok. 17:22, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Nicknames and copying right out of the game guideEdit

I reverted a move by Nitty back to Sticky. He quotes that the gameguide says that his nickname is Sticky Hands. Nowhere in the Prima guide do I see that. The only name I see for sticky is sticky. Page 301 is the only mention of him because it mentions his Quest. "The children are throwing a going-away party for one of their own-a tall kid named Sticky." That is the only mention of him. This is the prima guide that I believe we are using as cannon. Also Nitty thinks it's ok to copy word for word out of a book even if it is sourced. It is copyrighted and I belive I saw you make a revert based on that before. I can understand a sentence like a quote or whatnot, but the whole damn background section? Might as well copy the whole book into here and forget the work other editors have made. Not to mention some of it is indeed incorrect. I would like you to resolve this as Nitty won't like what I have to say. Never does. --Kingclyde 01:35, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

As for names and whatnot, should be not be using in-game names. I thought that is what we use as cannon. I have never seen "Sticky Hands" in-game at all. There has been a lively discussion between Nitty and I on his talk page and mine. I seem to be getting disrespected alot lately. I don't like being rude and I will not resort to it on a wiki. All I ask for is a little common courtesy. If I'm looking at Anna Holt's profile in the GECK and it calls her Neutral, I don't need Nitty to revert my edit and have him DEMAND to provide him a screenshot of my GECK. I am a 34yr editor in real life. I'm not going to lie like a little kid about what the GECK says. Anyways, sorry about the rant. --Kingclyde 04:47, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

So in the case of nickname, just so I am getting this clearly, Sticky should have the article named "Sticky" as it is in-game or "Sticky Hands" as it is only referenced in the game guide. "Sticky" makes sense as it is in-game but I want to make sure before I move things or what not. Thanks. --Kingclyde 10:37, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Dang, that was rapid fire quick. I'll move "Sticky Hands" back to "Sticky". Thanks. --Kingclyde 10:40, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Why didn't anybody contest Rosa Meitner, exactly? Why are we even using Alphonse Almodovar when The Overseer is his ingame name? Nitty Tok. 20:13, March 7, 2010 (UTC)
A. There are more then one "The Overseer"s in the Fallout universe and B. Sticky is best known to players. This isn't Wikipedia, it's a Wikia. User- EatThatNuke Nuke-A-Cola -ᴺᵘᴷᴬ Blab 20:19, March 7, 2010 (UTC)

Dialouge File Edit

Hey Ausir, I'm back on this subject again and as Porter's away I'm afraid you're getting lumped with this querey. I've tried looking for Beth's dialouge file but can't find it anywhere. Fallout New Vegas on Xbox live Edit

Hey Ausir, AlienCargo here just wanting to tell you that Obsidian has released a page on Xbox live for New Vegas.

It says brings up "Safety and Carefullness within the comfort of your own Vault!" And make a name for yourself across the Mojave Wasteland and some other stuff. I tried to send you the whole link by email but your link was broken and i really cant be bothered writing it all down again, sorry

hey... is there gonna be any bobbleheads on fallout new vegas...

Vandalism Edit

There has been a few recent acts of vandalism on the Gary, Lone Wanderer and James pages by an anon with the user IP I have gone in and fixed the pages as best as I could and I hope it is satisfactory. But the offending IP should be looked into imho. If there's anything else i can do let me know. Cpt. E. Blackadder 05:27, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

Hey Ausir, I am doing some work on the Wolfenstein wiki and I was curious on how one goes about making a category? Any help would be great. And does one need to be an admin or a bureaucrat to do it? Thanks. --Kingclyde 06:53, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

Congrats on 8000 articles. this wikia grows faster than any other --Mwals413 04:16, March 9, 2010 (UTC)

Image Uploads Edit

Are new images for Character pages supposed to just be named <Character Name>.jpg ? (or whatever file extension)

Edit: Scratch that question, I don't know why I needed to ask. But does the Vault accept Bitmap files? (.bmp)

Unused Images Edit

The approximately 120 files (80MB) that have been tagged are all currently unused files, but yes if there are some that have merit, then they should be added to articles. However, nothing will happen unless they are reviewed, so this is a good opportunity. In the case of the Fallout 2 box art, I suspect it is not currently used as it is a Polish version, with File:Fallout2front.jpg being the file actually in use.   phoenix  txt  xp  10:29, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

So your the guy that started this wiki? I thank you for making this. It's helped with everything I needed help with so far.

Theme songs and Van Buren... Edit

Under the BOMB-001 design doc (and maybe others, I dunno...), it lists the "theme music" for characters like Coleridge. Should we include those in the article? Like, for example, slap a Youtube link to the credits song for Black Hawk Down, which is Coleridge's? Nitty Tok. 16:34, March 13, 2010 (UTC)

Scratch that, it looks like it's just for Coleridge, Briggs, Pierce, and Davidson. Still, should I include those? Nitty Tok. 00:00, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Got some info for ya. Edit

I got the US April edition of gameinformer.

It had in the GOOD NEWS section a small paragraph of Fallout: New Vegas

Looks like the world is reconizing it.

I thought you might want this for the news section.

Here's what it said.

Vegas, Vegas never Changes. Bethesda annonced that Fallout: New Vegas will hit shelves this fall for 360, PS3, And PC. The Obsidian Developed title(with help from devs from the first 2 games) features Rangers from the New California Republic and a Glittering sin city spared from the Nuclear Holocaust.

Fo1 / Fo2 Characters? Edit

For Fallout 1 or 2 character pages, is the page supposed to be written as, say, this: (Example)

Yeah. I'd read some of your back (way back) exchanges regarding lore and such. So, I've been reconsidering. If you look at what I've done so far in the last few hours, I've only deleted a couple of really empty articles and merged only the ones that clearly make sense. I'm off to bed now. You can feel free by me to remove merge or delete tags you disagree with. Otherwise, I'll continue going through the lists and making sane judgements tomorrow night after some sleep and work again.--Gothemasticator 14:09, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

FO1/2 interactions Edit

Yeah, I'll see about making interactions templates easier to create and maintain when I get the time. A setup similar to the infobox one (with simple yes/no and text rows etc) should be a lot more practicable than having to muck around with the raw syntax which is somewhat complicated. After all, we'll probably need an interaction template for every main game eventually, so putting a bit more effort in should pay off

Technical stuff aside (there are a few small things I'd change on that front, nothing major), I only have a few suggestions/questions (since I haven't played the classics as you know):

 • Can items actually be modified in FO1? I thought that was only possible in FO2. Generally, I'd make a custom-tailored template for each game, even if the differences are minimal, if only to avoid confusion on behalf of the reader.
 • I'd replace "barterable" with a different term; it seems a bit strange to me as a word. If you don't want to use "merchant", how about something like "can be traded with"? Similarly, I'd replace "Item mods" with "Can modify items"; just seems more "fluent" to me (for the lack of a better term).

-- Porter21 (talk) 20:08, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

Took a while, but I've finally found the time to work on this. See Interactions for the meta-template; I hope it makes creating the interaction charts easier. I've also "translated" Interactions FO1 at User:Porter21/sandbox3; feel free to play around with it. Feedback always welcome :) -- Porter21 (talk) 19:23, April 28, 2010 (UTC)

J.E. Sawyer's Fallout RPG Edit

Hey Ausir. I've been poking around both our JES articles and the PnP wiki's, and I'm wondering if we should be creating articles like Body's Still Warm and whatnot; articles that are JES exclusive. It's not like Lionheart, which isn't part of Fallout at all, but I'm not so sure if we're supposed to have all the articles in tandem with the PnP wiki or not.

V.A.T.S. photo Edit

I am making a group on facebook for people that use V.A.T.S. for almost every kill they get. I wanted your permission to use your V.A.T.S. photo for the group's main photo. If you could message me back that would be great and thank you for taking the time to read this whether or not you give me permission to use your photo. (removed broken image link)

Charon's ShotgunEdit

I noticed that Nitty made it a redirect. I thought we discussed this a long time ago about leaving this as one of the only follower weapons to have it's own page. There are major differences between it and the Combat Shotgun. Unlike Jericho's, Butch's and all others follower weapons where it is just a damage rating difference, this functions different etc. Let me know what you think. Same with the SatCom Nuclear Strike. It has been redirected to Non player weapons and it is completely unique. It came with notes on different things. I'm discussing this with you as I no longer deal with Nitty due to his attitude toward myself and now apparently other editors. He needs to be put in check. --Kingclyde 18:07, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

Some help for translation... Edit

Hi ! I'm a french fan of Fallout and I've just seen that there's already a Wikia in french for Fallout, but those guys seem to be like 10 years old... yerk.

Anyway I've created a Wikia :

And my idea was to translate everything (plus some things I can add) same way as yours, same menu, same pictures etc... Where I fuck up, is conception... I don't know what to do exactly this is too difficult for me lol so I wondered if you would like to go on my Wikia, I put you as an admin of course, all the copyrights will be to your name, you do everything that could be done for it to look like your wikia and I translate the Wiki in french! Like this we'll have much persons coming up on our page and we'll be the most important "database" community on Fallout :D

It's up to you !

Waiting for your reply, Have a nice day, Missingnox.

PS (if it's very boring and long you can send me the source code I'll deal with that, well i'll try lol)

Re- Translation Edit

That sounds all good to me, make me an administrator and I'll take care of the french one, translate and classify it the best way!

All right not a problem, i'm gonna begin it tonight (menus and pictures) but I may need some help for summaries or navcolumns template... Anyway you'll see and tell me how it looks

Hum... another problem... I can't create menu, so I can't do anything give me the right to create the menu and I'll start lol.

Possible Fallout: New Vegas tease sent on USB flashdrives to IGN, and other Gameing websites. Edit

Hello, I am a new member, but have been visting this wiki for a little over a year. On my daily rounds of the internet i found this and feel it may be of some importance. 1 Apparently, a source originating from Maryland (presusmably Bethesda) has sent many major gaming websites a flashdrive containing a set of codes and nubmers. was able to decipher the code and linded it to a website 2 which contains many referneces to nuclear energy, 50s era technology and Baseball. I know this may end up being a tease for a different game, but the amount of evidence that it is for Fallout: New Vegas is enough for me. P.S. Thanks for the wiki Merker6 22:08, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Tried to post but it wouldn't let me Edit

like the subject says, i was unable to post the blog,. The error code was 210. here is what i wrote.

Today, several gaming websites including and recieved Flashdrives in envelopes marked with stamps originating from Maryland (Home of Bethesda) with no return address. The Flashdrives contained an Audio File and a Word Document. The Audio File contains a quote from Julias Cesar and an encrypted message spelling out "MOD ZZZ JNQRYD3FRP". The Word Documents cotnains 6 words,

 • Cryptography
 • Isotope
 • Philanthropy
 • Hydrogen
 • Ember
 • Rebirth was quickly able to decIpher the code using the Acronym for the words above " C.I.P.H.E.R." and the quote from Cesar, as well as the encypted message from the Audio File. It was discovered that using the Cesar Cipher, and the word mod signalling a shift of 3 letters, the code ends up leading to a website . This website features a 50s Style TV and a looping video/audio message with themes including socitey, Atoms, Nuclear Energy, and Baseball. Another decoding of the repeating encyption on the website using the Baconian Cipher reveals that it says "APRIL WEEK TWO".

Now there has been a lot of talk around the internet on this subject and what it is teasing for. The evidence almost entirely suggests Fallout: New Vegas, however it is possible that much of the evedence is coincidence. The Evidence is,

 • The Maryland Postal Stam, indicating it came from Maryland,
 • The audio defects in the audio messages that can be associated with 50s era technology
 • Slot Machine noises can be heard in the background of the Audio messages
 • The Nuclear themes on the website along with most of the other imagery and the style it is presented
 • And finnally, the Cesar Quote, possibly being a reference to Cesars Palace Casino in Las Vegas

Below are the links to the articles of both Gaming websites and the Viral Website in question.

Fallout Tactics: New Vegas Edit

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'd say it also depends on how popular the iPhone game becomes; if it's not that popular I'd leave FOT where it is (as the most common use of the term) and simply place for at the top of its article. Fallout Tactics barter prices Edit

Hey Ausir.

How should we list the barter prices for Fallout Tactics? Should we list one static price, like what the price is at 100 Barter, 5 Charisma, or a range between 1 Barter, 1 Charisma and 300 Barter, 10 Charisma? Nitty Tok. 14:26, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

The only weapon in the editor is apparently the rocket launcher. I assume you mean the editor that came with the game? I can't see the stats for that at all. Nitty Tok. 20:17, April 24, 2010 (UTC)
That editor has three options. Entity, which is for characters, maps, which only displays the Rocket Launcher (with no stats), and Campaign, which does nothing.
If you could point out where the stats are, I'd transfer the info and stop bothering you. :P
I looked on NMA, found only save game editors (which I've been using to get my Barter to the levels I mentioned.) Nitty Tok. 21:09, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering if you'd be available for an interview via our Wikia talk pages? I was assigned a project in my L.A. class, which requires that we interview someone and write a biography about them. I was hoping you could tell me about your childhood, if not too personal, your adulthood and life events. I can scan the questions and send them to you, if you want. Thanks. US states & commonwealths Edit

We have quite an abundance of articles for the various US states and commonwealths, most of which are fairly short and can't really be expanded either. I think we should consider merging them somehow, but I'm still unsure about how exactly to do that. The alternatives I see are:

 1. Make all of them redirect to United States of America and describe them there.
 2. Make the state names redirect to their corresponding commonwealths and describe them there.
 3. Make one page where all the commonwealths and states are described, separate from the main US article.

What's your opinion? -- Porter21 (talk) 18:30, April 29, 2010 (UTC)

Should we use the commonwealth names from JES, or is there a canon source for the names? -- Porter21 (talk) 07:40, May 1, 2010 (UTC)

Gun Runners Edit

Say, how did you find out that these guys would re-appear in New Vegas? [Hopes the 3d engine doesn't butcher their appearance/concept from Fallout.] Ghouly89 (Talk) 23:17, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

I swear, you know everyting little fact that ever was/will be ;). But this fact worries me, considering how off-canon it seems. Before, they were a tiny little group, thinking about them expanding/moving that far seems a bit far-fetched. Ghouly89 (Talk) 23:23, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
I guess that is a good way to look at it. However, something that is far-fetched is Bethesda's use of the Enclave in Fallout 3. Of course, they just packed up what was left of their troops, and migrated to the east coast to develop another powerful organization :) Ghouly89 (Talk) 23:31, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
Anyway, off the topic of discussions, what do you think of the new Interactions layout for Fallout 1 / 2 characters? (Example: look at Abel). Ghouly89 (Talk) 00:11, May 1, 2010 (UTC)

Fixed width Edit

Well, layout-wise a fixed width is easier to work with as you can rely on the site looking the same for everybody. It makes formatting tables and templates quite a bit easier, and it prevents the "distortion" you get when using percentage widths in combination with widescreen resolutions. On the other hand, when it comes to text it obviously has the disadvantage that people with higher screen resolutions can't really make use of it, resulting in them having to scroll more than necessary.

Switching to a fixed width shouldn't cause many follow-up problems; I designed the portals and templates so they work on a minimum resolution of 1024*768 without looking weird. A few of our more table-heavy articles might need some reformatting afterwards though.

Personally, I'd be slightly in favour of having a fixed width. I guess we should hear the community's opinion on it though. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:37, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

why not let the FNV super mutants have there own catagory rather than share the same as the west coust ones i mean rearly if someone wants to search for info about FNV super mutants they arent going to read about west coust ones

i think they should have there own catagory for several reasons and that my edit was fine i dont see why it was changed it seams sometimes on this wiki that people just change any edit i make automaticly on some pages wrong information is listed or none atall about something important to that page and i edit it and then 5 minutes later everything i have writen is completly removed some people on here are such wiki nazis not leting anyone change anythingbut themselfs crisscross1993

fallout 3 Edit

I am playing fallout 3 right now (below is not me)

yeah but they should still be under there own catagory when you are on the FNV creature page and scroll down you dont think west coust super mutant and new vegas super mutant would be under the same name

and why is it properly edited on maraposer super mutants page but not the normal one

Questionable edits?! From Ausir?! Edit

First, why make the Cowboy gun have a less descriptive name?

Second, how're we sure that the 10mm SMG wasn't just an example for the purposes of dialogue? Nitty Tok. 00:36, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

But the .357 part should probably stay until the real name is confirmed, just to give closure about the ammo type.
And there was the Violator fiasco for Broken Steel, it's not like devs can't use "examples". Nitty Tok. 00:40, May 3, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'm sorry. I get so used to the odd edits, I get in the habit of questioning them. I forgot you're a part of the Fallout team. My mistake. (And as for the mutant article, I saw removal of content and instantly thought "vandal". Maybe I should take some time off...) Nitty Tok. 00:47, May 3, 2010 (UTC)
Well, is there any chance you could discern which gun is used in the new TV Robot screenshot? To stop the flood of M1 Garand articles? Nitty Tok. 12:08, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

Standards Edit

If you hit the random page link, the appearances section in the article it pulls up will more likely than not say "PAGENAME appears in Fallout Blank". I thought that's what we were using; other parts of the disambig articles (like Combat shotgun's pages) don't have appearance sections at all. I was trying to get it to look more like the one on Laser pistol (Fallout 3): minimal. Nitty Tok. 01:25, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

It's simply smaller. Probably not one of my better ideas.

Achievements Edit

Not a fan of achievements either; like forum ranks, these will inevitably lead to some people making useless edits just to increase their edit count and earn "badges". But yeah, if we have to use them we should use Vault Boy pictures. -- Porter21 (talk) 01:37, May 6, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout New Vegas Overview Page Edit

I've modified the section about Combat, it's just a slight edit, but I have the sensation I've made it less clear =/
Any suggestion on how to make it smoother to read?

Wiki policy discussion forum Edit

I think we should merge the "wiki policy discussion" forum with the main "wiki general discussion" forum. I guess I overestimated the amount of usage it'd receive, and it's already hard enough to get people to somewhat regularly check one forum, let alone two. I was also considering renaming "wiki general discussion" to simply "wiki discussion", it might give people a better impression of what the forum is for. What do you think? -- Porter21 (talk) 08:07, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

Merge in progress. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:49, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

New Vegas is one of the candidates Edit

Look at these vids of new vegas game informer pics Edit

New Vegas supermutant Edit

Considering the new screenshot a FAQ change is in order, but probably taking out the question altogether would only generate more confusion for the users.
If you agree I'm gonna modify it by explaning that the old screenshot showing Vault 87's super mutant was a WIP screenshot that showed place-holders and that with new screens we've seen super mutants that look like Mariposa's muties.
Ah, sorry for the last unsigned message about the overview page, that was me. WorstUsernameEver 06:59, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

I would like to edit some information on New Vegas rifles. Edit

there are some less than correct information regarding firearms in the military assault rifle and battle rifle articles. and maybe some more, permission to change them?

in this vid there's one picture that you havent seen, a dude with rocket launcher facing a super mutant, near end of vid amongst other pics:

FO1/2/T Edit

I'd merge the pages in this instance. I guess in general it's no problem if only one or two item stats are different, as long as the games don't use fundamentally different infoboxes (weapons vs armor) and you don't end up having to make so many game-specific corrections that it gets confusing for the reader. My 2 cents anyway :) -- Porter21 (talk) 20:03, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

Interactions Edit

Well, the section title was originally intended to make clear that the section only covers interactions of the character with the player (and vice versa) as interactions between characters were supposed to be covered by the "relationships" and "background" sections. I wouldn't be totally opposed to changing it, but it's something to consider. In any case, we should probably ask the participants of the various NPC projects what they think about it, although I think Goth is going to murder me if we fiddle around with the "interactions" section yet again :P -- Porter21 (talk) 09:04, May 13, 2010 (UTC)

I've moved the discussion to Forum:Rename "Interactions with the player character" and replied there. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:54, May 13, 2010 (UTC)

Update Edit

Just a small update for the project I commandeered from you...

I have done nothing lately to help it get finished/ to increase productivity of work on it.

I have figured I might be facing re-writing all of the articles myself, and then asking other experienced editors whom are not really involved with the project (Yourself, Porter21, Gothemasticator, MichaelGrizzly, ShaddowRunner56, Nukey, Pheonix, and so on) to take one day and look over as many articles as possible, to look out for grammatical errors, and other lingual mistakes. What would you say to this little "field day" happening? I think it would jumpstart this project and my morale to finish it.

Also, I foremost plan to replace all of the pictures that need it by town during the next 2 days. Thanks for listening, Ghouly89 (Talk) 17:46, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Ausir. That makes me more motivated to write all of them now. And yes, I was planning on implementing the new Interactions template along with re-writing all the article content. However, there is one thing I might need specifically your Fallout expertise on. In Fallout 2, I have not explored the nooks and crannies of every town, every follower, and every quest. For article that pretain mainly to New Reno, it might be best for you to peer review them, as you know the most about that game. :) Ghouly89 (Talk) 17:58, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Answer me these questions three... Edit

I have three more little questions before you get back to your editing:

 • 1: Do you know why the quest "Listen to Stacy's kitty story" was merged with the character article Stacy?

 • 2: I have used different headers for character articles that reside in different parts of the Wasteland (Fallout 1). Generally, I use "<charname> is a resident of so and so in 2161" if the NPC is located in the Vault, Shady Sands, or Junktown. For NPC's in other locations, I use "<charname> is a resident of so and so around 2161" because according to canon, the Vault Dweller didn't discover other places in the Wasteland until up to five years after first leaving the Vault. Should it just stay as "in 2161" for every article?

And lastly...

-- Ghouly89 (Talk) 18:27, May 15, 2010 (UTC)

Question 1 Response: Ah, that's understandable. I actually completed that quest unknowingly last night in the Den. I will update it as best as I can then...
Question 2 Response: Alright. I just wish the in-game events and canon all just completely agreed, it would make this terminology thing easier.
Question 3 Response: Interesting. You truly have the most versatile knowledgfe of the series, my friend. Now, I will release you from my interview to continue your work. ;)

Alpha Protocol Wiki Edit

How come you don't mention your involvement with the AP wiki on your page, just the other wikis you're involved in? I'd think you'd be proud of it, considering how the whole thing started looking a zillion times more professional since you came onboard.

Survival Edit

Apparently a new russian preview from the magazine mentions for the first time the presence of a new skill in the game : survival.
The skill influences the amount of hitpoints gained by eating and drinking and also gives the character the ability of cooking in a camp fire.
Since it seems it's the only noteworthy new info in the preview (I can't read russian unfortunately), I douibt it deserves its own news page.
Should I just create a Survival page in the wiki? (actually considering my browser made my last attempt at editing a page go horribly wrong I guess I won't start anything for now :P) WorstUsernameEver 20:09, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Lori / Lorri Edit

Yes, I realised as well that both spellings are used in the game. However, I went off the basis of how many times each spelling was used.

 • "Lori" is used once, by her assistant
 • "Lorri" is used indefinitely in the combat.msg file for Fallout.

What do you think should be done? Ghouly89 (Talk) 07:42, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

That makes more sense than someone like me choosing which one should be used. As a matter of fact, the redirect already exists, so that is taken care of.
Anyway, I want to have a small discussion about the FO1 and FO2 chars project with you. Somewhat recently, I have been playing around with how to format the "Tell-me-about" section on Talking Head articles. For example, right now I just have them in a collapsible table, for organization purposes. I think it would be cool instead to play around with some ideas, and make a custom format template. Examples are on Harry and Aradesh's articles. Ghouly89 (Talk) 07:51, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Ausir! Edit

Hi =D. I'm kinda new to Wiki (though I've being using it before), and I'd like to say thanx for all the info you brought. (I've started reading about New Vegas). It seems as a very EXCITING game. Thanx.

MyHome MK25 Edit

Yeah, yet another message about our most favourite page :P What do you think about removing the JS hack which redirects back to the main page and instead using JS to put a message at the very top of the page which informs people what the page is and how to turn the redirect off? I'm starting to doubt that Wikia will budge on the whole redirect issue, and each time they alter the HTML for any of the buttons or the page itself we have to fix the JS or risk JS errors (which then stop other things from working). -- Porter21 (talk) 19:06, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

Good idea, should be possible. With a little trickery I should be able to make the displayed text editable via template, i.e. similar to Games. I have the basic code to insert the message down already (see User:Porter21/monaco.js), but that modification shouldn't be hard to do. I'll get on it once I'm done with the new navbox template. -- Porter21 (talk) 19:44, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
On a related note, do you have any idea what the "demo widget" code in MediaWiki:Common.js is for and/or whether we can remove it? It was added over a year ago by KyleH and seems to insert a slideshow of FO3OA and FO3TP items somewhere. -- Porter21 (talk) 21:55, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
I've removed the "MyHome anti-redirect" script and the "demo widget" as well while I was at it. Whatever its purpose was, I doubt we have much need for advertising FO3OA and FO3TP content at this point.
I've also added the script for intro text in MyHome. The text itself is stored in MediaWiki:Myhome-intro, feel free to modify. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:14, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

New navbox Edit

I'm more or less in the finishing stages of the new navbox template. What do you think about ? Keep in mind I simply copy/pasted one of our largest existing boxes and added a couple of options, it probably looks a little overloaded. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:24, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

Well, the original Navbox Enclave navbox was intended to be used as a standard navbox, so it's natural that that display mode will look least confusing for this template. It's not an "or" choice anyway (i.e. the template supports all styles); I was merely lazy and copy/pasted the same template instead of choosing an appropriate one for each setup :) The column mode is more useful for templates like Navbox overviews FO3 really. The main point is that you can do everything you could do with Navbox, Navbox collapsible group, Navbox columns and Navbox group with one template, and even mix the features for different groups in one navbox. For example, you could have:
 • One block collapsible but the others uncollapsed
 • One (or more) block(s) with columns and the others "normal"
 • One (or more) block(s) which is collapsible and has columns and the others uncollapsible with a normal setup
Or any other combination you can think of.
Regarding the size of the template, it's indeed a bit big. We could split like you said; with the new template we'd also have e.g. the option of making the groups collapsible or generally make the setup less confusing - Navbox new supports 8 group rows per block, instead of only 5 like the current ones, which would mean we could get rid of a few superfluous block fields. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:55, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

Well, as you already noticed I didn't get around to moving all categories. I'll see what I can do regarding the logo; unfortunately the one on the site is rather small, so it'll be hard to get a decent-looking larger version.

Regarding the abbreviation, sure, replacing it is no problem. Which one are we going to use - "FOOL" or simply "FOL"? -- Porter21 (talk) 07:05, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Uploaded new gametitle and logo. Also moved V13 to FOOL and changed "V13" to "FOOL" wherever I could find it. Wasn't really worth firing up the bot with this number of pages :)

Big Guns and Small Guns in Fallout: New Vegas Edit

Hello my friend =) !

So, since the " Small Guns " and " Big Guns " skills are merged into " Guns " skill in Fallout: New Vegas, I find it still important to note the difference in the description text saying, for example " The Light Machine Gun is a Big Guns in Fallout: New Vegas ", knowing that of course the two skills are merged in one, but it's to maintain consistency with the rest.
