A new editorEdit

Thanks for the tip Ausir. I'm new to this, but I'm glad to help where I can. Kolane1984 18:05, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Another VandalEdit

Found a vandal with the IP address "". He kept screwing up the Protector Casdin page. --Clean Up 19:50, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Chinese SoldiersEdit

Don't you think we should generalize the soldiers instead of having to do a page for each type of them, obviously there should be a seperate page for Dragoons but otherwise it is only the weapons that changes so there is not much need for a seperate page for each. Text back when possible.Hazadragon 23:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Changes to FO3 Weapons page Edit

Hi Ausir, this is just to let you know that I have moved some of the data (location mostly) on Unarmed Weapons to the relevant sub-pages and replaced this column with a notes column; none of this information has been lost - just moved. I think this yields a more attractive table and will prevent bloating of the main weapons page. I will continue to edit the page, adding and standardising the weapon sub-pages, as I find the time - although hopefully people will follow on in the pattern that I have started. --Trithemius 03:13, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Pipboy Pictures Uploaded Edit

Hey Ausir, i've uploaded a lot of Pipboy pictures in the wiki, check it out :

I've extracted it from Fallout 3 files (.dds), converted in jpg and resized in a smaller format. That might be usefull for items pages.

I've uploaded only "misc items", but there are also "weapons" and "armor" pictures, i didn't uploaded in the wiki since most of them are the same as in Fallout 1/2. You can get it the whole archive of pipboy pictures that i've extracted so far here in .zip format.

Thanks, take care. HawK-EyE 16:18, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Welcome Edit

Thanks for the opportunity to edit and add information to the wiki. I take it very seriously, i use the information, and i want others to have the most accurate as well. i have added a little more detail to the Blood Ties quest information because even though you may recieve EXP, the quest isnt truely over untill you go back and forth to King and Vance and you get a reward for doing so. Anyways, i look forward to working with you as well. It should also be known, but i didnt add this to the wiki on that quest. but if you try and kill or actually DO kill vance or any of the Family members, you will become hostile even to those back in Arefu, and Megaton... dont know why, but its what happens. Jsnod25 23:49, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for editing my posts, I am not that skilled in the use of hyperlinks.

Thanks Edit

Thanks for the info on starting a talk page.

And... Edit

I also have the Fallout 3 guide and don't know how to create all the fancy links for the wikis so if you want info let me know. - Greywyn Zod

Layout Issues Edit

What's wrong with the annoying layout? It seems like the text goes right up against the information box; there's no spacing. How do we fix that? The AEP7 laser pistol is an example of what I am talking about, or am I the only one who sees this problem? User:RDE206 21:46, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay I didn't notice your messages and I was just going about playing with the wikia and all that. I've never attempted to submit information to a wikia before so just let me know what your thoughts are and I'd be happy to help you in any way you'd like. WiseguyTW08 00:12, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Edit

Will do, thank you. I'm new to the wiki thing, but thought I'd share the easter egg I discovered this way.

BoS Power Armor designation Edit

I didn't see it anywhere so far, but it's a safe bet it's <T-51. Shaur M. S. Grizlin 09:55, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Aye. Possibly some later models relegated to riot control while the advanced T-51s were on Anchorage and in China. Shaur M. S. Grizlin 12:20, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Tesla Armor Update Edit

I noticed you just removed the sections on the Fallout Tesla Armor page. So I'm guessing you didn't like it like that. I was going to insert a section for Fallout 3 but it's not necessary now. I got a good image of it though, can I still put that up? It doesn't matter to me, whatever you feel works best.

FuBi0 03:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Ah Okay, I see. You've organized it into a new page. That's cool.

FuBi0 03:36, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Fallout 3 mapEdit

i intend on making a map that people can use for finding locations, if you want to help, my email is or if you would like to do some work by yourself i have the measurements for the entire map. the map (in the pip-boy) is 51cm by 51cm. it has a thick line every 3cm and there should be 17 large spaces total. most of the locations on the pip-boy can be designated with a spot on this map in addition to areas of intrest like the spaceship crash site ore the chinise radio signal area. bigbadbarron 9:42, 2 November 2008 (-5 Gmt)

I would like some help with the photo uploader Edit

I have dozens of photos that I think could help quite a bit of people, but for some strange reason, it wont let me add the file. Every time I click "Insert File" on the bottom left corner of my monitor, it says "Error on Page." I was wondering how I would succesfully upload a photo without recieving the message ont eh bottom left corner of my screen. Thank you for your time.

What did I do? Edit

  • Can you please help me with my Moria Brown page. I don't know what I did, but I obviously messed it up.

Secret stashes of items Edit

Idk if a page should be made about these or not. I have found a few so far. Apprently the Guide has some of the locations I heard but they are very vague.

Two I have found are the sniper rifle outside megaton inside a "hollow rock". Look at the sniper rifle page for information on that secret.

A wastelander can drop a note and key outside of Super Duper Mart. The note indicated where a stash was located in the scrap yard. I heard that this secret is in the strategy guide, but they dont specifically give the location.

I have found a few other secrets, idk if they should be a seperate page or what. The above "hollow rock" secret is by all means a normal looking rock which leads me to believe that there are other secrets like that possibly in the middle of nowhere for all I know. Your opinion is appreciated.Grenade321 22:05, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps we need a page like 'workbench' for 'beds' & question about policy on pictures (Resting made)Edit

We need a overview with all the places where you can sleep for free etc. just like Workbench Or perhaps such a page already exist, and i dont know where :) A page named 'Beds' or 'Sleep' or whatever..

I think 'bed', 'rest', and 'sleep' should all point to the same place: the locations where you can sleep. Locations, price. What do you think?

>> Resting made. I will keep a watch on it, and contribute.

uhm.. another question.. Will we get copyright problems if we use things like ingame pictures/screenshots/maps with bethesda? are we free to illustrate everything with the real thing? whats the policy on that?BobHead 03:04, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Need some advice: Merging or not? Edit

I want to merge the Winger Mercier section into a page which describes the icegang: Sudden-Death Overtime OR place the info and the bios of the other players at the quest page Finding the formula. I'm not so good in merging, though. Please advice what is best.

MiquelXY 22:06, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you should Merge. Winger Mercier is a unique character and deserves his own page. This is the internet, no need to save page space here. The links from that page to FTF quest and Ledoux are good enough, and vise-versa.Ralphredimix 15:51, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Quest rewardsEdit

Should the amount of XP gained be included with the rewards? User:70.126 21:56, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Alright. I'll try to keep track of all the XP from quests I get, and document them here. User:70.126 00:29, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Thx for the welcome basket. This game is great and there'll be plenty to put in here, if I can remember it all accurately! :) Ralphredimix 02:39, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

re:ammo namesEdit

I'm just calling them by the proper names they are named in FO3. It seems to me that we should make a distinction, since the game itself does. If we start sliding on naming conventions then you will eventually lose structure as you start using improper names for titles of articles. The game calls it 10mm Round, .44 Round, Magnum, etc.. Those should be the names of the articles as they relate to F03, and they should have a mention that similarly named (and similarly functioning) ammo/weapons/items appears in earlier games (with a link to those pages). You have already started losing structure here, as pages like Assault Rifle have disambiguations when they should instead simply feature all the info on any weapon named Assault Rifle in the F0 games. This is how you propose the ammo pages should be sorted, but in actuality, you have two different pages; one for the Assault Rifles in F01-FOT, and one, not named Assault Rifle, for the Assault Rifle in FO3. If you are splitting weapons pages like this then you should also split ammo pages. We should not start using familiarities, and we should respect the full and true name of the item/ammo/weapon as shown on-screen in the game. The Assault Rifle page should be like the 10mm page, or it should be the way I have been sorting it, and just described above. It can't be both... Ralphredimix 15:41, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I dunno man. I mean, is this a Wiki that has information as it pertains to our universe compared to that of Fallout, or is it focused on preserving the information of the Fallout universe? Because it appears to be both. Where is the references in the R91 Assault Rifle article to support all the data that is presented there? I would argue that, in the Fallout universe, there is no such thing as the R91 Assault Rifle, and that all rifles of that model are simply called Assault rifle, because that's how it's presented in the game and there is no cannonical data to suggest otherwise. I suggest there should be only ONE article for Assault Rifle that is sorted into several headings that apply to each appearance of a weapon named Assault Rifle. Data in the page about how the designers screwed up and used the wrong ammunition is ridiculous since the Fallout universe does not claim to be our own. In that universe, a gun manufacturer makes a rifle named Assault Rifle that uses 5.56mm Round. I feel like you are trying to make all the Fallout items somehow comparable to items in our real universe, which is silly considering the game designers never attempted to do this.Ralphredimix 17:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
I see your point.Ralphredimix 17:43, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
please comment on this and decide if all ammo pages should follow this format. I vote that they should for consistancy. Ralphredimix 17:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking that the various ammo pages might eventually contain spoilers. I also like the graphical tag on all the pages that apply to FO3, since that is going to drive 90% of the traffic to this site in the foreseeable future. Some ammo pages do contain spoilers already in mentions of specific quest names, specific unique items, and the availability of ammo, and names of enemies. Not huge plotline spoilers, sure, but spoilers nonetheless. :) Ralphredimix 18:14, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Lol, stop trying to steal me away from my day job!! ahaha.. this is too addictive! :D Ralphredimix 18:17, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Map PSD Edit

I can crunch the map's PSD file down to a 4.6MB .7z archive rather easily. If you'd be interested in hosting the PSD so anyone may modify it, I'd be more than willing to put the map up. The license I've put the map under just means someone is not allowed to sell it, they have to put my email address somewhere as the original author and otherwise they're allowed to do anything they want with it. I'm positive someone will violate this license, but I can't see myself getting too upset over it since I already had my five minutes for doing it in the first place. If you're interested, please let me know. Novemparodius 18:52, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Will you put page Fallout 3 radio stations in menu, please? I think, that it have it's place there. J.i.gorkij 21:28, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Community talk page Edit

Hi, is there a community talk page for this wiki? I apologise, but I have serious concerns about this wiki and the internet forum-style edits quite a lot of people seem to be content on contributing without regard for Wiki style or formatting. Or even correct spelling. --FFN 10:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for replying. Btw, the link for the Oblivion Wiki is mis-spelled in the Related Communities box. --FFN 14:35, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Username request Edit

Thanks for that bit of enlightenment on the ZAX talk page! And by way of thanks, could I ask you a (hopefully minor) admin question? :) I wanted to register as user "cbh" since that's what I am on the likes of Wikipedia and the FO3 forums, but it's already taken; however, the cbh here appears to be inactive, so is there any chance I could swipe the account for myself?

--Hedleyc 16:56, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikia has a common user database for all its wikis, so even if cbh is not active here, he's probably active in one of the other countless wikis hosted by Wikia. Ausir 18:37, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Bummer! Well thanks for looking into it for me, anyway. :)

Problem Report Edit

Ive redirected both of those pages so you can remove them from the problem reports list.

Problem reports Edit

Hi there, did you have some open problem reports? You can view them at Special:ProblemReports. Its a great system for users to mark pages with various types of problems to bring them to the attention of admins. Often they are about the subject of the wiki, and only someone from the wiki can make the knowledgeable decision on how to fix the page.

Its a fairly simple system to use. You can click the magnify glass icon to show the reported problem for each ticket. The icons on the right change the status of the report. The green check mark icon is for "Fixed", you use this if you read the report, and changed something on the page to fix the reported problem, (or deleted it, if its a vandal/spam report), or anything that "Fixes" the problem. The red X icon is for "closed", this is for reports that are false/jokes, or things that are not really a problem. The yellow triangle will mark a report for need help by Wikia Staff, it is used when there is something wrong with the wiki that you cannot fix here with editing pages, such as menus not working, or skin problems, or anything beyond your control. Use it sparingly, as there are many wikis, and our time is limited, but dont be afraid to use it either, we dont want you to have a broken wiki for too long. The last icon is for returning a report back to an open or 'Pending' state if you accidentally used one of the first 3 icons.

If you are using the Monaco skin, there is a ProblemReport widget you can add to your sidebar, so you can see as soon as problems are reported. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask on my talk page, I'll be glad to help you help your wiki.

--Uberfuzzy 17:28, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Easter Eggs. Edit

I saw recently that you removed the entry of 1984 from the Fallout 3 section of the Easter Eggs page.

Your reasoning was 'comrade' is just a word used in communist countries. Have you read 1984? If you have, then you would realize what a clear-as-day reference it is to the book, along with Irving Cheng being a community leader and role model, as Big Brother was meant to be in the book, along with the reference to Big Brother is watching you. If you haven't read it, I don't see how that qualifies you to omit an easter egg concerning it.

I would ask that your omission be reverted. I would re-add it myself, but I don't want to come off as being rude. --Elko 21:20, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for resolving that. Sorry for being so harsh at first, appreciate the input.

--Elko 22:12, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing up the Easter eggs Cultural references. Looks much better now.

--Mirar 11:51, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

First of all, thanks for your help :)

Are you an admin? I was thinking of mimicking what is done on, clearing out the Fallout 3 bugs page to the Fallout 3 bugs/Proposed page, and then protecting it so only admins can edit it. Then each proposal can be vetted by an admin, before being added to the page.

I have spent several hours trying to make the page better, and it is still shit. The biggest reason is that everyone puts up there junk on the page, with no vetting process. is an inspiration, and I would like to institute some of the ideas there with other peoples help, here.

So if you are an admin, let me know. I will watch your page....thanksTravb 03:21, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Ausir Edit

I'll put the templates from now on. Thank you.

Bethesda Ruins Edit

After completing a minor edit, the system asked for an edit on the Bethesda Ruins article. (Kudos, by the way, for implementing a system that identifies articles needing work and alerts editors!) I rebuilt the page and fleshed it out to give a complete picture of the ruins. The article covers all the parts of the ruins...including the Bethesda underworks, which presently has its own article. Since I didn't want to go making a mess, I'd like to suggest that the current Underworks article be removed and replaced with a redirect to the Bethesda Ruins article. At that point, the "main article" link in the Underworks section of Bethesda Ruins can be snipped out.

Of course, it's just a suggestion; I bow to your judgment on these matters. But since I didn't want to step on any toes (and don't know how to build a redirect page anyway), I thought I would put the decision to you.

Hope all is well,

Vaultbuilder 17:14, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

templates Edit

I edited the FO3 a little to make it look better in both IE and Firefox and various font sizes. Hope you wont mind. Also, care to comment on the Template_talk:FO3_weapon|FO3_weapon discussion?

-- Mirar 20:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Ausir! I was talking to Doug today about the pagetitle for this wiki, and he suggested that I talk to you. I've been doing a lot of work on improving the Google rankings for our wikis lately. The pagetitle is a big factor in determining our page rank, and one thing I've found is that the placement of the words in the title makes a difference -- if the important words are on the left, then Google pays more attention to them.

This wiki already does very well in Google, but I think we might be able to do even better if the pagetitle said "Fallout Wiki - The Vault" instead of "The Vault - a Fallout wiki". We can also change the main page title so it just says "Fallout Wiki - The Vault" instead of having the double "fallout wiki". What do you think about this? Do you have strong feelings either way? -- Danny@fandom (talk) 00:52, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

The precursor to the fallout series, Wasteland, had a walkthrough book called "The wasteland survival guide" which could be purchased seperately. I can't help but believe that Moira's book is a direct referance to this. Should this info be added to Wasteland Survival Guide or maybe the culture section? MisterPuck 16:53, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Deleting Enclave Shocktrooper Edit

I started that article on the intention of the idea in the Alpha and Beta versions of the game, the Enclave had "Shocktrooper" special forces, but the idea was dropped before release, so I would but, I have no idea how to.

Much thanks, M10 101

Oh one more thing, Happy Thanksgiving Pawel. M10 101

About Broken Steel, I don't really think they are going to bring back the Shocktrooper, I mean, it makes much more sense to keep the Soldier. Ah nevermind. M10 101

I forgot about that, the main Holiday in Poland is Christmas, in which Polish Children and actors perform jasetka and eat paczki. I had to write a research paper on Polski customs in College.

Of course, but there not much room for difference between Soldiers and Shocktroopers, (prob the reason they were dropped in the first place) Until then, we will have to eat what Bethseda gives us, (meager however) until the DLC comes out.

Check this out, AusirEdit

It's probably totally inappropriate for this wiki, but check out the little story I typed on my user page. I'll probably have to remove it, but let me know what you think before I do! -TunnelSnake 00:27, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know, you didn't have to set up a new category for deletion, because for all wikis you can type deletion|reason inside two "{" brackets which adds a large red deletion nomination banner to the top of the page and creates a link on this page

Re: Freeform quests Edit

I've corrected the names as far as I could. According to Fallout 3 quests#unmarked quests, there are still a couple of quests missing from the Wiki and the page still has a few quests which aren't listed on NMA, both of which can be seen on my user page.

But the quests listed on Fallout 3 quests#unmarked quests should all have their correct names and own pages now (save for Clean water which is not listed on NMA, hence I've left it alone for now). --Porter21 12:53, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I wasn't sure where to report this so I decided to find the highest authority I could find to report this to. Question as to why you deleted a very useful page Edit

You recently deleated LordOdin69's User page. On his page contained all the skill books in one convenient place, it was a skill book check list. I didn't bake the page but i found it very useful. I could use a search function on that page to see if there was other skill books near by, or to go and loot for Barter books, Sneak books and Small weapons books at the same tile, with out switching between pages. Brett Moan 20:12, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

I deleted the user page because user pages generally should not be in article categories, and it was better to create a list of all books in an article. See: Fallout 3 books. Ausir 22:25, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank You ausir. I'm happy to see the page is still alive and that it was just modified a bit and moved to a new and more appropriate location.Brett Moan 23:34, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

You recently deleted the GECK Mod display page, I was just trying to get people to show there cool mods so that they may inspire other people andI felt offended when my first wiki page was deleted 20 seconds after my page was created.- Justyn

I deleted the page, because we already have a sister wiki for modding information, while this wiki is dedicated to canon Fallout information, not modding. It would be a better idea to create such a page there. See: Vault-Tec Labs - Fallout modding wiki. Ausir 23:09, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Transwiki Edit

Hello, I am a longtime fan of Fallout and brand new to Wikia (although I am fairly active at Wikipedia), and was hoping for your opinion and assistance. I would like to transwiki the pages of two games from WP to here. The first is Meantime (Interplay's first attempt at a Wasteland sequel), and the second is Fountain of Dreams (EA's attempt at a wasteland sequel). Clearly these are not Fallout canon, but I feel their relevance to Fallout (another successor to Wasteland) is obvious. I would like to make sure that this is within the scope of this project, and if so, would you mind doing the actual Transwiki-ing. The specifics are mentioned on this thread on Wikipedia. Thanks! JohnnyMrNinja 03:34, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Would you mind adding the Wasteland Wiki to the sidebar on the left, next to the modding wiki? Is it related enough for that? JohnnyMrNinja 00:35, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Dossiers Edit

What about creating such a new category of source texts? I mean dossier as page, where proofs concerning certain subject are collected. It is quite waste of time now, when sb would like to find any data within eg. a few thousand dialogue files. As example I can give you my Fort Abandon dossier at NMA (its part one), I had created same thing for Grand Canyon also. For dialogue files dossiers I see two ways - collection of links to proper msg files and collections of quotations (I need it eg. for intelligent deathclaws). With such solution I will be very happy with editing niche pages and I could leave Grizzly with creating more and more lower secondary scool level articles for our immature users :).--dotz 14:18, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Fallout 2 special encounters Edit

Any idea why Fallout 2 special encounters is showing up as uncategorized? There are categorizations visible when you edit the article but they are not displayed on the page and the article is not showing up in the categories (but on Special:UncategorizedPages). Maybe I'm missing something obvious, no idea... // Porter21 U | T | C 15:36, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Nevermind, figured it out, there was an unclosed tag in the article. // Porter21 U | T | C 15:39, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Nuclear Powered-Cars ? Edit

I agree, I think a section for Nuclear energy would reduce the confusion; I also think that the name of the article I added to should be changed to "Nuclear Powers" in the plural, having Nuclear power may confuse it with Nuclear Power Stations etc.

Re: Templates Edit

Thanks! There are still a couple I don't know what to do with though:

  • These do not really need to be templates in my opinion:
    • Template:Levels
    • Template:FO3Levels
    • Template:Rad Poisoning
  • There's also a couple of "Featured article" templates showing up in the Templates category. I've stuck them all in Category:Featured articles for now, no idea what to do with them.
  • All the templates which are deprecated and not transcluded anywhere are now in Category:Unused templates. Should they be deleted?

Hope you don't mind if I run a couple of other thoughts by you :-)

I'm not sure whether it'd be desirable to have all templates show up in Category:Templates, no matter their subcategory (to avoid duplication because people couldn't find them etc) - they don't, for now.

The naming convention/default sort for game-specific templates: If you're looking for an armor template, for example, you'll find Template:Infobox armor pretty easily but will also miss Template:FO3 armor pretty easily as it's listed under "F" and not next to the other template. If it were called "Armor FO3" it'd be right next to it which would improve transparency for new people. // Porter21 U | T 14:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Re. Canonboxes Edit

Thanks again. Still gotta convert all the navboxes to use the new navbox templates but I guess I'll do that tomorrow.

The canonboxes are/will be framed, I guess the new CSS hasn't propagated yet (i.e. you still have the old version cached) :) Still working on the CSS for the canonboxes though, hard to find a good link colour for the background. // Porter21 U | T 23:53, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

IE6 compatibility Edit

Is that something we need to be concerned about here? Asking for basically two reasons: we're using a lot of transparent .pngs which don't display right in IE6 (probably just a minor cosmetic issue) and the collapsible navboxes don't work right in IE6 either. // Porter21 U | T 01:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Good to know, IE6 is a pain sometimes. I've managed to fix the IE6 PNG issues with a javascript from Wikipedia though, and revised the collapsible navbox design so they now also work flawlessly in IE6 :-) // Porter21 U | T 12:22, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Hanged Man cleanup Edit

Ounce again - any hints? It is rewrighted now.--dotz 20:48, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

parentheses/references problem - stuff moved to references is rather side info or even a kind of digressions; I need it, but not in main body of article - a kind of KIS principle (I will always will affraid of Grizzly-like editors, if my articles aren't easy readable).--dotz 21:26, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
...let's, not mention his merit quality. I'am sorry EAF and CL pages were written with (not wery well} "dossier manner", but I was persuaded it should be changed (check Enclave articles forum for last memo). Going back to subject - references help me with keeping stuff short, wich you should like (as far as I remember there is no edition/cleanup standards, despite your explanations, or even simple "references are allowed for sources only" rule).--dotz 22:05, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

RE: Interactive Map (Google maps)Edit

My original intent for the interactive map article was not to advertise it on another website, but to document it. However, I was unaware that there was a link to it on the wikia vault interactive map page. Thanks for commenting your reasons in my talk page. Originally I was a little angry about it, my first article and all. But now I understand and agree. Thanks much! Nerdychaz 05:27, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Family field Edit

Sounds decent to me, especially the Vault 101 characters would probably make heavy use of it. Maybe add it just above the IDs. // Porter21 U | T 01:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Collapsible groups Edit

It can be switched on a per-navbox basis. The collapsible groups thing is really only intended for extremely large templates (say, Template:Navbox New Reno or Template:Navbox weapons FO3) which almost take up a whole screen when expanded. Mostly changed FO1 weapons and FO2 weapons for consistency with FO3 weapons, can always change it back by simply removing "collapsible" from the template name :-) Or we could reorganize the categories so there are not as many of them and you have to do less clicking to see them all.

I understand what you're getting at though.

Not sure about the "show all" link, I'd have to look into it. // Porter21 U | T 18:12, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'm reverting the changes for now then. I'll leave the template up in case it's needed though. // Porter21 U | T 18:44, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Recent formatting changes Edit

Hi Ausir. I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but there have recently been some odd formatting changes. For one, the part of the bottom of the screen where you can type in a summary of the changes you've made, click Save Page, or Show Preview, is different. It has a grey background and the text for the Save Page button is not centered. At the same time, something changed with the bullets. Now, if you have a series of bullets and sub-bullets, the bullet points for all but the last group of sub-bullets do not show up next to the text they relate to but mid-way down the entire list of sub-bullets. You can see a good example of this on the Brotherhood of Steel page, where the members are listed.

What's going on with these new changes, and how can they be fixed or undone. They don't look good. Servius 18:27, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Just to butt in, it's not something I've done - I'm innocent in this case! :-) I think it's some sort of wiki upgrade since the edit page bar now stays on bottom of the screen when you're pre-viewing very large pages, for example. As for the centering and bullet point issues - what browser are you using, Servius? Don't have any of this in Firefox. // Porter21 U | T 18:44, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm using IE7. I posted a screenshot of what the bad bullet points look like on my talk page. Servius 20:43, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I was a bit confused by that too when I returned. I think it's a software update (all of wikia, most likely). Looks fine in my Firefox and IE though and I suppose it's possible to get used to the new floating save... User-Mirar pawprint14Mirar (Talk) 20:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Federals Edit

Some anon gave there cleanup template with such explanation: Article is generally difficult to read and understand; is it supposed to explain what the gov't branches do or where they appear in the games? Of course answer given him was, that the latter. On his level of understanding guy is probably right, I feel bad :), because unfortunatelly I commited another difficult dossier, so my proposition is let it be dossier and I, somebody else or even Grizzly can create short, easy to read and nice article like Yes, there was some US government, there was a President's office, some departments and agencies. More seriously I feel it can be reedited as I described at its talk page, but on the other hand I don't want to lose info the way Grizzly masacred Enclave armed forces (BTW I am going to recreate detailed post-war USAF dossier just as dossier, so area of unpleasant dispute will disappear/will be limited).

Final request is to remove "Federal government" as "Federal government dossier" and leave Federal government title for some strict synthesis (disclaimer - references to Grizzly here are necessary nad made with minimal level of spite and honestly his help as paralegal would be good thing).--dotz 19:59, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Addition to Timeline Edit

Just wondering if the following are acceptable to add to the Timeline article, specifically in the 2077 section:

  • September 6: Technicians at the VSS Facility notice General Chase is making radical, unrealistic changes to the Anchorage simulation. They believe Chase is becoming obsessed with the simulation and is gradually going insane, but refrain from confronting him out of fear that they will lose their jobs to military contractors.

They're relatively minor events in the context of the Fallout universe, but perhaps they deserve mentioning? -- 01:23, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, just wanted to make sure. -- 01:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Operation: Anchorage locations Edit

I'm wondering what to do with the location within the simulation, seeing as there is really nothing to most of them except for their involvement in the respective quests (Listening Post, Chimera Fuel Depot -> Paving the Way etc). The locations which are different (U.S. Army field headquarters, Outcast Outpost etc) already have own articles.

I don't think the rest needs own articles. The main question is how and where to merge them - all locations on one page or merge each location with the respective quest page? I'm tending towards the latter but would like to hear your opinion. :-) // Porter21 U | T 19:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess I'll simply make an article called VSS simulation with all locations within the simulation listed and pointing to the quest pages for details where appropriate. Sound good? // Porter21 U | T 12:48, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey Ausir, thanks for clarifying my edit of Fallout Tactics, like you can see I'm pretty new. I've always thought that the Fallout universe was more interesting than ours, but I didn't think about inconsistencies until now. I guess I went overboard when I found the Desert Eagle .44 mismatch. I still have my doubts about some other weapons, mostly from Tactics, and mostly guns from WWII or prior like the Browning M2, I guess it's because these are symbolic weapons but since Fallout's time-line is pretty sketchy I thought they existed in both universes. I'd still love to see a Browning M2 in Fallout 3 though...

Vault dewler Random encounter? Edit

there have been multiple sightings of what people have said to be the Vault Dewlers' body inside it you can find 'Worn-out Tribal gear' and 'tattered note' aparently the note says 'find the water chip' also you can investigate the corpse and it say 'this man looks old and well traveled, you get the feeling that he was important' Onikage01 22:32, 3 February 2009 (UTC) is this true?

Even if it is -A- Vault 13 dweller, it isn't necessarily THE Vault Dweller. When you begin Fallout, the first thing you find is the body of another Vault 13 resident. The Vault Dweller wasn't the first choice to retrieve a water chip, who's to say he was even SECOND choice? On the other hand, your rumor is probably apocryphal. No problem :-) I try to make them as varied as possible as well although I admit to having a natural tendency to select FO3-related content more often, simply because it's the only Fallout game I've played. Wikia parser switch & The Vault Edit

Just thought I'd bring this forum topic over at wikia to your attention in case you haven't noticed yet: w:Forum:Switching_to_the_new_parser.

The Vault is in group 2 (i.e. with potentially problematic pages).

List of pages (as retrieved from

Surprisingly, none of the Navbox or Infobox templates are on the list despite of being somewhat complicated :-)

Maybe we should take a look at what needs fixing before February 17th/March 3rd. // Porter21 U | T 17:43, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Having looked at it a bit, it's basically three things which are causing these pages to be reported:
  1. Pages which start with an empty space to create a pre-area (doesn't work right with old parser either, output is just different); wrapping in <pre></pre> works fine and removes the parser diff. (concerns dialogue file pages in list above)
  2. Transcluding the welcome template instead of subst'ing it. (concerns user talk pages in list above)
  3. The cite web template (concerns the remaining pages, they are either the template page itself or have the template transcluded)

Re: Town navboxes Edit

Probably, seems handy. Which other locations would that be? The only ones I can think of with enough people/places/quests to fill up a navbox would be Rivet City, Little Lamplight and maybe Paradise Falls. // Porter21 U | T 18:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Life on Mars Edit

You need to copy the relevant bits from our MediaWiki:Common.css to the Lost on Mars wiki's, i.e. this:

/* Start CSS for Fallout 3 info box: */
/* **************************************************************** */

/* top right box with location, quest, item, character info */

/* black frame around the info box, with an 1.5 em margin to the text to the left */
.FO3-infobox-box-box {
  align: right;
  clear: right;
  position: relative;
  margin-left: 1.5em;
  margin-bottom: 0.5em;
  border-collapse: collapse;
  border-color: #222;
  border-style: solid

/* the table */
.FO3-infobox-box {
  border-collapse: collapse;
  border-color: #FFF;
  background: #010;
  color: #FFF;
  border-style: solid

/* no editing in the box */
.FO3-infobox-box .editsection {

/* missing pages are very red */
.FO3-infobox-box {
  color: #f11 !important;
  background: #400;

/* table-in-table */
.FO3-infobox-inner-table {
  border-collapse: collapse;
  border-color: none;
  background: none;
  color: #FFF;
  margin-left: 1px;
  margin-right: 1px;

/* table header (and footer) */
.FO3-infobox-header {
  font-size: 0.9em;
  line-height: 1.1em;
  background: url(;
  color: #FFF;

/* titles like "Quest:" "Clip size:" etc */
.FO3-infobox-title {
  font-size: 0.9em;
  line-height: 1.3em;
  background: url(;
  color: #FFF;
  vertical-align: middle;

/* data like "23", "[[Megaton]]", etc */
.FO3-infobox-data {
  font-size: 0.9em;
  line-height: 1.2em;
  margin-left: 2em;
  border-collapse: collapse;
  border-color: #FFF;
  background-color: #010;
  color: #FFF;

/* console id data */
.FO3-infobox-data-console {
  font-size: 0.9em;
  line-height: 1.2em;
  margin-left: 2em;
  border-collapse: collapse;
  border-color: #FFF;
  background-color: #010;
  color: #DDF;

/* links are on dark background */
.FO3-infobox-box a:link {
  color: #afa000;
.FO3-infobox-box a:active {
  color: #fff;
.FO3-infobox-box a:visited {
  color: #afa000;
.FO3-infobox-box a:hover {
  background: #000;
  color: #fff;

/* links are on gray background */
.FO3-infobox-header a:link {
  color: #cfc000;
.FO3-infobox-header a:active {
  color: #fff;
.FO3-infobox-header a:visited {
  color: #cfc000;
.FO3-infobox-header a:hover {
  background: #000;
  color: #fff;

/* end FO3 infobox */

Then edit it according to what you want. Primarily you'll have to change the backgrounds (replace the background: url(); rows with background-color:your color;) of the FO3-infobox-header, FO3-infobox-title and FO3-infobox-data classes (and their text colors, set with font-color).

Be aware that it can take quite a while until the updated CSS is re-cached; your changes won't be visible instantly. If you can't get it to work, let me know and I'll take a look tomorrow.

As for IM, I don't really use any currently. Used to use MSN messenger but I'm only very rarely online. // Porter21 U | T 02:14, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I'll fix that now. Frostman242 17:58, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Location infoboxes Edit

I'd actually add two fields, game for the titlehead and appearances for an entry in the infobox itself. This is the way it's done for the other templates as well, reason being that appearances fields usually seperate games by using line breaks and the titlehead should rather use slashes since line breaks look crappy in the title field. Additionally, beyond a certain number of games listing all games in the titlehead becomes impractical (see Harold, for example) so it's good to have them seperate in my opinion. // Porter21 U | T 19:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'd still call the field game though to keep it consistent with weapon, character, quest etc templates (game=title, appearances=body). // Porter21 U | T 20:29, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Looking at it, I think we can merge settlement into location entirely. The only differences currently are the logo selections (which can be combined) and each template having one/two fields the other has not (settlement has fields for map and mapdesc, location for cellname - all of these can actually be useful for both locations and settlements). Settlement is not transcluded on too many pages so switching those to using a combined location template shouldn't be too bad. // Porter21 U | T 23:37, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Disambig Edit

I've altered the disambig template slightly (as you've probably noticed). It now automatically adds a "PAGENAME can refer to:" line at the top to save us typing :-) The line can be suppressed by using {{disambig|nointro}}. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention (the Regulators disambig looked a bit messed up). // Porter21 U | T 20:33, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Originally I wanted to use mbox but then I thought it'd be better if the navigational stuff looked the same - and the {{for}} template looks is too obtrusive as an mbox. // Porter21 U | T 20:39, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok. Do you by any chance remember what the Vault Boy image that shows him reading a map (over his shoulder) is called? I think it'd be perfect for the disambig template. // Porter21 U | T 20:44, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
It's similar, but not quite. It was black and white and from a lower angle. Do you which perk/trait/skill this was used for? It might be a variation of it for another game. // Porter21 U | T 21:00, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Can't find it either. Guess I'll use one of these: Image:DeathSense.gif, Image:Blind.png, Image:Jinxed.png.

User-made Character Builds Edit

I figure maybe we should move these (such as the ones on the SPECIAL page) to their own separate article? I mean, they're not contributing to the facts of the article, and people are going to post them anyway... --Turbine2k5 14:51, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I see...I'm going to take the info I ninja'd off of the SPECIAL page and paste it in. Thanks --Turbine2k5 15:06, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

This page looks like a mess now: Fallout 3 character builds. I think the idea for that page was for users to post their own unique characters.
I think it was better the way it was before, with a general description of different characters on the SPECIAL page, and characters users on here have played with on the character build page. Dcruze 16:14, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Map PSD Edit

Yeah, I noticed, considering I was the one who had e-mailed him about the whole thing. It's safe to say that he's annoyed about everyone who griped about the map being in hex, but it seemed to be the only way to go. In the meantime, I'm actually working on it in MSPaint, and I don't know how long it'll take me. Do you know if you can get me screenshots of the new DLC locations highlighted? (I'm running it off of my 360) --Turbine2k5 15:02, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Fallout 3 SPECIAL Edit

Up until this edit:

Revision as of 18:27, 7 February 2009 (edit) (undo)MaddyDweller (Talk | contribs) (Added extensive "Mixed and Match" Guide)

The Fallout_3_SPECIAL page was close to perfect. I agree it could work better now, but having a brief, general and objective description of common play-styles on the SPECIAL page isn't entirely out of line.

It's when people mix in subjective information in sentences that go like "I don't agree with" etc. that things start going awry.

Now the Fallout_3_character_builds article needs a ton of work to say the least. The "commentary" should be put at the top, and everything that isn't objective should be taken out. It should be made clear that users are welcome to post their own characters, but they should try to be tidy about it. Dcruze 16:36, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I was wanting to put Fallout 3 character builds under Fallout 3 -> SPECIAL/character creation... Turbine2k5 (What I am... - What I hear... - What I do...) 19:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Furniture Edit

I have read your e-mail. I agree these are minor items. However, items (ex. white plates) are minor items. Each one of them has its own article. They have their own category. I have attempted to create a new category - Furniture - in which I have placed the minor articles of furnishing. I think the articles will grow.--Newark67 22:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Misunderstanding Edit

I misunderstood the purpose of this wiki. Please remove all my offending articles. Thanks.--Newark67 22:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Merging Edit

When I write an article, I am not following the pattern of one article per plate. I am combining all tables into one article, for example. My hope is that someone will include pictures with each model.--Newark67 23:27, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank You Edit

Thanks for welcoming me, though I'm not sure how active I'll be here. There's lots of interesting information here, one page that listed the cut/unfinished data in Fallout 2 finally explained to me why Sulik's village can't be found. I always wondered about that... Drake Clawfang 23:31, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Heh, well I've played Fallout 1 and 2, but don't have Fallout 3. Drake Clawfang 23:41, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Unified Operating System Edit

This is from James terminal in the Vault Physician's office. Other date I have from the terminal: RobCo is named RobCo Industries and the copyright date of the operating system.

Re: Glowing Ones Edit

Yeah, I noticed your edits. I simply went by how the Glowing one article was tagged, although in hindsight I could at least have guessed they were in Tactics. // Porter21 U | T 14:04, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Sure, if you can link me to the logos I'll make mini-logos for them. It's always good to be able to see what games an article relates to at a quick glance in my opinion.
By the way, since we are on the subject of the Games template: I think we could modify the template to automatically insert spoiler tags for The Pitt and Broken Steel. It's usually placed at the top of an article anyway and integrating the spoiler tags there would mean we wouldn't have to first manually insert spoiler tags and later remove them again (which is somewhat tedious as I noticed when I did it for OA); instead, we could simply remove the spoiler tags from the games template and be done with it in seconds for all concerned pages. // Porter21 U | T 14:33, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Template for Perks and Traits Edit

I'm not there a way to divide a navbox into subsections? I've just been copying other navboxes and replacing the info... :P --Turbine2k5 (What I am... - What I hear... - What I do...) 17:13, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

No featured article Edit

Sorry to bother you, but I thought I had better let an admin know that there is no featured article on the mainpage, just a redlink. Thanks, --EightyOne (talk) 01:29, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello Edit

Hey, Ausir.

Thanks for introducing me to the Vault, I think it's a great site, and I'm hoping the community's just as great.

Feel free to view my user page, I've been doing some work on it, and have made it like any other article!

I'd be happy to help with ANYTHING to dowith the site, although it'll probably be me asking for help!

In fact, is it ok if I had you on MSN? In case I need to ask any questions.

Thanks again, lb8068

Whoops! Edit

Sorry about that image template. I'll remove straight away!

My bad! Edit

Sorry about about playing with the wiki a couple weeks ago, I don't know what came over me!

Re: Bot requests Edit

Sure, what do you need doing? // Porter21 U | T 21:15, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

I've added the perk pages to the to-do list. Maybe I'll start on it later today, maybe tomorrow. Going to insert an empty template with 5 "sets", 3 games each - should be enough for the average perks. // Porter21 U | T 20:12, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Perk infoboxes added. Also categorized Lionheart, TORN and JES perks and made subcategories for traits in the different games. I've also added the LH, TORN and JES logos for Template:Games we were talking about a while back. // Porter21 U | T 11:56, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

FO1 and FO2 page tagging Edit

I think I'll do that in multiple steps - first add the games template to the pages that don't have it from the Fallout and Fallout 2 categories (sub-cats included). Then do the infobox stuff from the Fallout quests, Fallout non-player characters etc categories. // Porter21 U | T 21:33, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Agreed, which is part of why I'm doing it in multiple steps. It's easier to check whether an appropriate infobox is already there and adding it when you're working from a given set of pages (like characters etc).
I'm currently letting it work on the pages in the main Fallout category to see whether it's working right before setting it to work on the subcats :-) // Porter21 U | T 21:39, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Just to make you aware of the limitations: pages which are related to both games will end up only being FO1-tagged at first (I'll see whether I can correct that later on, should be possible) and protected pages will be skipped as the bot has no sysop rights (for example, it skipped No Mutants Allowed on the test run). // Porter21 U | T 21:45, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh well, I've restricted the bot to the article namespace for the current run. If it's necessary I can have it do another run on the image namespace. // Porter21 U | T 22:12, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

I've stopped it. The reason it did that is because those pages belong to Brotherhood of Steel characters; which is a subcat of Brotherhood of Steel -> Fallout organizations -> Fallout. // Porter21 U | T 22:37, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that. I think that's the only subcat though, gonna do the remaining cats one by one. // Porter21 U | T 22:48, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Yup, organizations is/was the only subcategory which includes pages from other games. By the way, if the bot has been blocked, its IP needs to be unblocked, too :-) Was just wondering why it kept giving error messages. // Porter21 U | T 23:04, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Was Boneyard in the first Fallout, the second or both? Category:Boneyard characters is a subcat of Fallout 2 characters, Alan (Fallout) who belongs it is described as a NPC cut from FO1, which is why I'm asking. If the cat is not categorized right, the bot might have tagged a couple of them wrong (the ones which were not already tagged in the FO1 run). On a sidenote, Category:Fallout 2 characters is a bit of a mess regarding sub-categories. // Porter21 U | T 23:45, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Seems there's a bit of wrong categorization then: Category:Boneyard belongs to Fallout 2 places and Rippers (gang) (which is in said category) is classified as a Fallout 2 organization. // Porter21 U | T 00:39, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
No problem, actually I only noticed because the bot added Games|FO2 to Alan (Fallout) which seemed strange to me :-) // Porter21 U | T 00:47, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I need someone to double-check my logic before I make the bot create a major mess :-) Proceeding to final task for today, replacing Games|FO1 with Games|FO1|FO2 for pages which belong to both games. To do that, replace {{Games|FO1}} with {{Games|FO1|FO2}} for all pages in Category:Fallout 2 and sub-categories. Any potential complications I've overlooked? Seems almost too simple. // Porter21 U | T 00:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok, should be done now. Slight issue: Pages belonging to some place categories (FO1 locations belonging to the NCR, to be precise) and their sub-categories are occasionally tagged wrong (as FO2) if they were not properly added to a FO1 category. Some pages were simply added to Category:Towns or Category:Organizations, for example; these are the ones affected. Think we need to compile a list of concerned categories and then I'll make the bot re-tag them. // Porter21 U | T 01:44, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Should be fixed, turns out it was mostly Category:Hub that was affected. // Porter21 U | T 02:08, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Dialogue file tagging Edit

Last edit for today :-P Do you want the dialogue files tagged as well? Could also add a Mbox ("This is a dialogue file" etc) while we're at it. // Porter21 U | T 02:12, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Bot is currently adding Template:Dialoguefile. As with the last task, I'm doing this in multiple steps; first add the template, then Template:Games and finally Template:Wikify to pages without links. May take a while in total, the bot's been working on just adding the dialoguefile template for over an hour now and isn't finished with the FO1 dialogue files yet. There's a lot of them :-P And FO2 has even more. // Porter21 U | T 10:28, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Finished adding the Games tags. Bot is now working on adding the wikify template where necessary. I've set it to look for pages having no links except cats; seems to be working fine so far but I guess we should keep an eye on it. // Porter21 U | T 17:49, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
On a sidenote, prepare for getting the wikify category swamped :-) // Porter21 U | T 17:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
It's certainly not empty anymore, 560 articles and the bot has just started with the Fallout 2 dialogue files ;-) // Porter21 U | T 19:19, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

All dialogue files should now have the proper mbox and games tag :-)

Encoding issuesEdit

Don't think the improper encoding can be undone, I'm afraid. It seems like all the special characters got replaced with the same placeholder character, no way for the bot to tell what was originally there. // Porter21 U | T 21:45, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

You're right about the apostrophes - however, I've had no luck finding the unicode for that strange replacement character. And without that, I can't make the bot replace it :-/ // Porter21 U | T 11:49, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Still having no luck with finding the correct unicode for the replacement char (I was trying to let the bot at least tag all the files with encoding issues). Did you ever ask the wikia staff how that happened? Or do you know which encoding was used prior to the switch? -- Porter21 (talk) 21:49, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

The Pitt magazine scans Edit

Just noticed Bethesda nuked all links to magazine scans of the Pitt screenies from their boards, stating they're illegal. Makes me wonder whether we should remove the ones uploaded here as well (if they're illegal). Would be a shame though... // Porter21 U | T 11:51, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Referring to these two images. // Porter21 U | T 11:53, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Adding Template:Games to FOT and VB pages Edit

Not sure, but I think you mean what I was planning to do anyway: Loop over pages in Fallout Tactics and Van Buren category, append |FOT or |VB to Games template if there's one, add Games template if it's missing. Or did you mean something else? Might have to do a similar run on the Fallout 3 category in between to ensure 1) that all pages are tagged and 2) proper order of Games.

Will be a bit until I get round to that anyway, the other tasks will take a while to do (the bot can only edit one page every ~8 seconds to avoid overloading the server; when you're doing hundreds of pages that adds up quite a bit). Still busy with adding Games tags to the dialogue files (although there are only ~100 pages left by now). // Porter21 U | T 17:02, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm still trying to evaluate how the bot got to that page. I unlinked BoS and Enclave from FO3 so it shouldn't work on those cats... // Porter21 U | T 12:47, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
The bot is innocent :-P Roshambo belongs to Category: Osceolla characters which is sub-cat of FO3 NPCs. // Porter21 U | T 12:52, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
No problem, things like that happen. Just saying the bot wasn't malfunctioning :-) // Porter21 U | T 13:08, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Probably, I was a bit undecided (which is why I didn't delete the cat) whether to adapt Harold to the others or all the others to Harold :-P The FO3 characters should probably rather be moved to a Category:Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel characters as well. // Porter21 U | T 13:52, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Game-tagging for FO1, FO2, FO3, FOT, VB and FOBOS is completed now :-) Pages and categories which are not properly linked up not included, of course. // Porter21 U | T 18:24, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Cut Content Edit

Thanks for the pointer on the cut content. I'll make sure to do that instead. 21:27, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the pointers.Though I'm relatively new to editing, I feel I can help with the cut content at least. Mteps420 21:49, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
That's true. Should I add the stats of the cut item to the info-box, too? Like I did here.
I'll make sure to re-add those. Thanks. Mteps420 22:05, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

The Vault NO Edit

I saw you dropped me a note on The Vault NO! I was going to send you a message today, regarding the Norwegian version of The Vault, hoping that we could work together. I've been doing the main page, using your CSS as a starting point, and just editing the language. I was just wondering, how do I activate the custom skin? I'd love to have it look a lot more like the original Vault.

Also, if you tell me where and how I add interwiki links, I'll gladly do it. I have some experience with wikis, as I have far over 400 edits or so on the Norwegian wikipedia, but I still need to work out a few kinks.

Cheers! KristofferAG|-=KAG=--The Lone Wanderer 08:25, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Adding infoboxes to FO1 and FO2 pages Edit

Could you take a look at Albert, Vault Dweller, Natalia or Max Stone and tell me whether what the bot inserts is ok/whether there's something missing? Thanks. // Porter21 U | T 20:08, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

The bot doesn't actually reposition the image; it inserts {{subst:PAGENAME}}.jpg as default image for the infobox, was just coincidence that it matched. Repositioning and removing an image as well as inserting an infobox at the same time is a bit beyond what the script can handle. I'll add the other stuff. Porter21 23:07, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Technical reasons. I need to use two different scripts since each of them individually don't provide what I need; one can add text at the top but does not support line breaks, the other cannot directly add text at the top (only replaces existing text) but supports line breaks. Hence I'm using the first to add {{Template}} at the top and then the second to replace it with the actual infobox. // Porter21 U | T 14:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Changed some small stuff and redirected. I'll have the bot replace the settlement template in the pages entirely later on. // Porter21 U | T 14:43, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Which attributes do you want added for the location infobox in the FO1/FO2/FOT/VB/FOBOS pages? // Porter21 U | T 14:49, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the dialogue field is only missing for the FO2 characters, the FO1 ones seem to have it. No idea how that happened, I'll have the bot add the field. Regarding the Background character template, we could simply merge "mentions" with "appearances" and have the field description change depending on what's entered in the Games field. // Porter21 U | T 22:33, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I've merged the Background char template with Template:Character. Bot is removing transclusions, should be done in half an hour. // Porter21 U | T 07:43, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

FOT missions Edit

Fine by me, I was going to modify the quest template. I'll try to move the {{Template}} tag to wherever the mission template should be inserted - please don't remove these (except for in articles where the mission template is already present). // Porter21 U | T 18:25, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Similar to what I was planning :-) I've added the section template to the pages as you requested - the bot is just making its final run on the cat, then all the pages should have a mission template under the respective header. // Porter21 U | T 19:07, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Template:FOT character Edit

Do we really need a seperate template for those? The only differences between the regular char template and this one are having FOT pre-filled in for game and appearances, "missions" instead of "quests" as well as two additional fields ("rank" and "level"). Can't we just add the three fields as optional fields to Template:Character? // Porter21 U | T 14:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, we can probably merge the FO3 char template as well. We'll just have to improve the documentation a bit so people know what to insert for which games.
Regarding districts, the FO3 locations and districts use the "Other" field for sub-locations if they don't fall below the merchants etc categories. // Porter21 U | T 15:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I added the "sections" field for FO1 and 2 locations, since it's more suitable for these games (as each location is divided into several sections, connected by exit grids). E.g. Boneyard contains Adytum, the Library, etc. Can you add it to the version added by the bot? Ausir 15:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
It's done with FO1 already but I'll make it do another run and add it. // Porter21 U | T 15:45, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
If you think it's useful for FO1/FO2 etc, sure. Don't think we'll need it much for FO3 as one place is usually just inhabited by one faction. Does it need to be added to what the bot inserts? // Porter21 U | T 15:55, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd add it. And even in FO3 it could be useful, e.g. you could add the Children of Atom in Megaton. Ausir 15:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the sections field, I don't think the bot should add it. It's only really needed for the towns themselves, right? The sections are not going to need it. I think it's better off being added where it's needed manually. // Porter21 U | T 15:58, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Do you need factions for FOT locations as well? I've removed quests and sections, too. // Porter21 U | T 16:20, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Double Standards and... Edit

So he gets away with calling me a swine, but I call him a dork and I get blamed? That's harsh, man. :_( Also, I didn't know those versions didn't have the patch. I'm a "researcher", not a guy who keeps up with that kind of thing. System Error 23:07, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Relax, it was more playful than anything else. Over the top? Yes. With bad intent? No. Potential to be misunderstood? ...yes! So yeah. Point taken, yadda yadda yadda, I'll try an alternative next time.

Re: Infoboxes Edit

Yes, it's possible. Locations would be somewhat time-consuming (for me) though as I'd have to manually point the bot to each location category. -- Porter21 (talk) 14:04, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

A horizontal format would indeed be better for the creature template. It's far too large and creates a lot of whitespace on most of the pages where it's used. I already tried to shrink it when switching to the new infobox framework but with limited success as you can see - there's simply too much data in it. I'll take a look at converting it. By the way, it used to be called Critter but I guess something like "Creature stats" is more descriptive.
See Template:Creature/sandbox for first draft. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:49, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Agreed about generalizing the FO3 creature template. -- Porter21 (talk) 22:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I've made a first draft at The Vault:Community Portal. I think it could be useful as a place where we can structure current tasks by game - not all editors can contribute to pages about any game, this would allow them to see what needs to be done for the games they are interested in/knowledgeable about. -- Porter21 (talk) 07:53, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Cardiac Arrest - Not Relevant? Edit

I read your message. You said that cardiac arrest is not relevant to the game. Did I miss something, or didn't Catherine die from cardiac arrest? Her death is relevant to the story of the game. Then you write that the reader could read of cardiac arrest on character's page by linking a external link to wikipedia. There is no link.

As I mentioned before, I come from Memory Alpha. Memory Alpha is a wikia for Trekkies. It includes information from all the shows and films. They have a strict canon policy. I carry their beliefs and practices to this website. So, if I write a topic, the topic is found within the games. For example, in Memory Alpha, they have an article on Cardiac Arrest.

I find the policy for what is accepted or not on this wikia confusing. As I said before, on Memory Alpha, they will accept topics only if they are mentioned in the shows and films. Period. When a discussion arose about my furniture articles, you write that you will accept these articles and will accept additional articles if the person is OCD enough to write them. Yet you have deleted shortstop and, now, cardiac arrest because they are not relevant to the wikia. It can't be both ways. Will you now delete headache or Vault Depressive Syndrome or Retinoscope because they aren't relevant? And what is the definition of relevant? Who defines it, and where is it spelled out?Newark67 05:00, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Scope of the wiki Edit

I think guidelines are needed. What you wrote in reply to Newark seems reasonable to me, too. -- Porter21 (talk) 11:53, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Just noticed the latter part of my reply was a bit ambiguous. What I meant was that what you wrote as a reply to Newark seems reasonable as guidelines. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Please change Fallout 3 -> SPECIAL/character creation -> Skills to point to Fallout 3 skills on the sidebar. --Odie5533 08:49, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Template:Games Edit

Just wanted to let you know that the Games template no longer only works with the Monaco skin. It should now work with all skins (only tested it with the Monobook and Quartz skins though). -- Porter21 (talk) 12:33, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Lincoln's RepeaterEdit

Am I the only one who thinks maybe this weapon should be considered totally unique? It uses .44 rounds and is different from Hunting Rifles and BB Guns. I understand the point about the lever action, but we don't compare every weapon that uses a clip with each other. It is also arguably a hunting rifle as that repairs it. I think it should just be a class of weapon where there is only one available like the Gauss Rifle. -- 22:42, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Slide Show WidgetEdit

I'd like to take a quick second to tell you about an exciting new feature we have enabled on your wiki.

With the slide show widget, you can show off content on the Fallout wiki by:

  • Adding it to your MySpace or other social network sites
  • Adding it to your blog or website...or anywhere else that allows flash
  • Adding it to your favorite fansites

Create your ownEdit

To create your own widget visit the creation page and start having fun.

Keep in mind this is the ground level for this product, we will create a more robust tool based on feedback. Currently Sysops and staff have access to the tool. We would love to hear about what you want to showcase on the widget in the future and value your feedback.

Let us know what you think below.

Thanks, Doug
