Take this and find my daughter. Don't let the Talon Company corrupt her like they did with me”— Gerrard Valen
Living as a destitute wastelander his entire life and being forced to kill others just to survive, Gerrard naturally drifted towards mercenary work to get by. After his daughter Isolde Valen became terminally ill with Hemophilia, Gerrard desperately sought for some way to find a cure for her, which eventually led him to the Talon Company branch of mercenary work. His new work kept him optimistic with the money coming in and the leader of the mercenary group being a scientist. However, when fellow mercs began disappearing after dealing with high-priority contracts, Gerrard finally decided to take his chances and escape from the Capital Wasteland with his daughter and the money he made.
Unfortunately for Gerrard, the leader of the Talon Company, Commandant Aix, caught wind of his plans, and arranged for the kidnapping of his daughter, with an assassination squad awaiting for him at Isolde's meeting spot. Gerrard managed to escape with his life, and has since then has been tracking down his daughter and killing every Talon Company merc he can locate for information regarding her location and the Commandant that stole her away from him.
After gambling with his life trying to fight the Talon Company alone, Gerrard finally wised up and began looking for outside help in the form of other mercenary groups looking for revenge against the Talon Company. Each mercenary squad he signed up with met with a grisly fate, until there was only one group that would take him in: Reilly's Rangers. Plotting from within their compound, the Rangers believe they finally have a way to reunite the father and daughter, and to strike a mortal blow against their sworn enemies.
Interactions with the player character
Gerrard Valen has a unique script only shared with Isolde Valen. At night time, should the party be outside, Gerrard Valen will offer to set up a campsite. Sitting at the campsite, the option to sleep and the option to talk will be presented. Should the sleep option be taken, the party will awaken again at 7 a.m. Should it be chosen to talk, Gerrard will discuss the day, such as if the party was ambushed by raiders, or attacked by a deathclaw, etc.
- Gerrard has a unique animation, in which he will put his combat helmet on during combat, and back off when not in a combat situation.
- Should Gerrard be killed pre-maturely by the Lone Wanderer, the Crow Call quest will no longer be available, rendering the entire DLC unplayable without a prior save or new game.
- On Gerrard's corpse is a locket. While the locket can be sold for a small amount of caps (250), saving it and giving it to his daughter will result in a point of affection.
Gerrard Valen appears only in Fallout 3.
