As many of you have probably noticed, after a community vote we have introduced a new feature on the wiki - achievement badges. For now, it's activated only for a trial period of one month - after the month has passed, we will evaluate whether the new extension is good for The Vault or not.
The goal of achievements is to help encourage people to make more edits and contribute to the wiki. They also help brand new people get a feel for what they can do on the wiki by showing them various challenges. Awards are only available for logged-in users, so they’ll help encourage people to log in when they’re making edits. Admins are able to customize the names and pictures used in the achievement awards so that they fit a given community - we've already given them fitting Fallouty names, and will soon add appropriate pictures as well.
They also have some disadvantages - some people might start doing nonsensical edits just for achievement boosting, but be warned that such behavior will result in achievement boosters being blocked from the wiki by admins.
Each badge that you earn adds points to your total score: Bronze badges are worth 10 points, Silver badges are worth 50 points, and Gold badges are worth 100 points. When you join the wiki, your user profile displays the badges that you've earned, and shows you a list of the challenges that are available for you. Go to your user profile to check it out! You can also compare your point count with others on the Achievement Leaderboard.
If you don't personally like achievements, you can make them not appear for your in your preferences.
New Wikia feature - chat
Wikia has developed another new feature - live chat room, which is currently being tested on several wikis, and after that will be available for activation on other ones as well. You can check it out at Brink Wiki. What do you think? Would you like to see it activated at The Vault in the future as well?
