Nukapedia News Digest
Check out the latest Fallout news on the Nukapedia News page.

We haven't had a wiki news digest for quite a while, so here's another summary of what's going on at The Vault and Wikia in general.

The Vault news

The first set of optional JavaScript gadgets has been created - a list with short descriptions can be found at Special:Gadgets or on the "Gadgets" tab of Special:Preferences, where they can be activated. Here are the links to the original scripts on dev.wikia (where you can also find descriptions and instructions on how to use the scripts on other Wikia-hosted wikis):

You can discuss the gadgets in our forum.

New polls

An upgraded version of polls has just been enabled. It's separate to the old <poll> extension (which will continue to exist for some time), and works a little differently, via a special Special:CreatePoll page. Polls themselves even have their own pages, and are included on pages like templates: {{Poll:Name}}. Since the feature is still being tested, please give us any feedback you might have!

Here's an example:

Poll:What's your favorite Fallout intro song

Deletion backlog cleaned up

Especially thanks the work of GhostAvatar and Jspoelstra on tagging the unused images, Category:Nominated for deletion has been cleaned and was even empty for the first time in months. Keep up the good work!

News system changes

In order to make posting news slightly more comfortable and having the posted news look a bit better, we have made a few changes to the news system.

  • {{News}} now categorizes news items in the proper news categories. The month-specific category is added automatically based on what is entered for date and additional categories can simply be specified with the new category parameter. category supports the usual abbreviations for the game-specific news categories (FO1, FO3 etc) as well as "wiki" and "community" for news related to the wiki or the Fallout fan community. Up to 10 keywords and abbreviations can be used, separated by comma (",").
  • There is now a special template for quoting news items from other sites, {{Newsquote}}. Unlike {{Quotation}}, the text flows properly around any images used in the news post and it supports quoting multiple sections of the same source item.

Comments policy

After a vote, a new comments policy has been enacted:

  • Don't spam: Comments that are considered spam will be deleted by the staff. Examples of spam include one word posts, meaningless statements such as "Fallout x rocks/sucks" or random, nonsensical comments.
  • Don't flame: Comments intended to provoke other users (flamebait) or insulting them outright (flaming) will be deleted by the staff and may be grounds for blocking.
  • Don't be rude: Excessive rudeness to other posters (whether they are anonymous or not) is not welcome. Such comments will be deleted and may be grounds for blocking.
  • Be readable: If your message can't be understood, it will be considered spam. Leetspeek does constitute unreadability.

New Vegas featured articles
