I decided to start posting collections of links to various articles about Fallout games from around the web in the form of weekly posts, just like our weekly digests, which are concerned with news about this wiki. Reviews will also be collected here rather than in separate posts. If you want to propose a link to be included in the next tidbit post, simply post it in a comment in the most recent one.

Here are some recent ones.

Critical Gamer, apparently oblivious to Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas and Interplay's Project V13 being in production, writes about ideas for the future of the Fallout franchise:

Imagine a city in the Fallout world that’s dominated by people online, where you could acquire a stall to set up shop and sell your custom made weaponry or spare parts. I don’t know about you, but I’m a hoarder! My Megaton house is stuffed full of junk, and the only reason I don’t sell it for caps is because I have too many caps already! So, a place to buy and sell could be good for those just starting out, those who need quick-fix armour or a decent weapon would benefit from this as well. Veterans could off-load their ‘junk’ for caps to buy rarer weapons, items or even aesthetics for their house or armour.

Destructoid has a curiously titled "The wrong thing: Finger relief = dead GF?!" editorial about the role of choice in modern games:

Fallout 3 presented us with another blank, expressionless character we could mould in our own depraved image. The choices we made were again radically opposite or dead in between. If I recall correctly there was only one perk which operated if you remained neutral. Now it was pretty tough, but compared to some of the stuff being good/evil got, it was very underwhelming. It was also insane how you received “karma” for doing different acts. There was also no “neutral” means of gaining negative karma or losing good karma.

And Legend of Zelda, a Zelda fansite, has an article on what Zelda could learn from Fallout 3:

Lastly, the Fallout 3 world is just humongous and as well all know the Legend of Zelda overworlds have never been too immerse. The land of Hyrule, in general, is a largely empty region. You can get around all of Hyrule field in the matter of minutes in Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. In Ocarina of Time you could even cross the entire field without running into any enemies or people whatsoever. The Wind Waker was a complete different situation, but again, the Great Sea was mostly devoid of enemies. And finally, Twilight Princess was a bit better, but the enemies posed no real threat and it was still empty in many places.

The Fallout series is a highly esteemed one in the annals of role-playing game history, and for good reason. They presented one of the first cohesive non-fantasy worlds to explore and manipulate, and were extremely open-ended. Fallout is still considered one of the best CRPGs of all time, alongside other classics such as Baldur's Gate 2. It's sequel may not be as fondly remembered, but it's still a great game, and exemplifies all of the things that Black Isle did right with the Fallout series. Fallout 2 is now available through a number of channels, and is a must play for any fan of role-playing games.
