The Toaster in The Sink was ordered to go offline when Dr. Mobius left the Think Tank. His personality back-up is recovered from a "toaster altar" in The Cuckoo's Nest. The Toaster is psychotically violent, aggressive and megalomanical, bent on destroying the Earth with atomic fire. Humorously, he is unaware atomic fire has already rained when the Great War began. When informed that the Earth has already been destroyed, the wind is somewhat taken out of his sails - albeit briefly - before he quickly returns to his "Burn the World" agenda by threatening to bathe the world in "atomic fire...again".
All My Friends Have Off Switches: The Toaster is one of the appliances that the player must retrieve a module for. The module is found in The Cuckoo's Nest sitting on what appears to be a shrine for toasters and electric appliances
If the player lies, claiming that his prior statement that the world had already been incinerated in atomic fire was "just a joke", Toaster will be relieved that he "isn't as redundant and useless as Muggy".
If the Courier has good or neutral Karma, the ending slide show of Old World Blues relates that the Toaster continued to rant about how he would burn the world. After a particularly violent episode, the other appliances got tired of the Toaster, and dumped him into a bathtub. In his last moments, the Toaster swears that they would "rue the day when they had bread... and no way to toast it."
If the Courier has evil Karma, then the ending slide show shows that the Toaster, learning from the Courier, continued destroying appliances and eventually built a shrine to itself in the Cuckoo's Nest.
The Toaster can also strip down specific small appliances for (5) energy cells and (3) microfusion cells per item. Turning in other toasters returns (1) scrap electronics per item in addition to the energy and microfusion cells.
Even if the player is not carrying any toasters, but has other small appliances or Saturnite fists in his inventory, the option of saying, "I've got some toasters for you" will still appear. Selecting this dialogue option will open the toaster's interface.

The toaster can be informed that the world has already been destroyed, but after his momentary disorientation he will decide that he is going to "burn the world, again!". Despite having to be informed of the said world destruction, he apparently knows full well about the Caesar's Legion and the NCR without any prior information.
The toaster makes several references to it's 'bread slot' despite apparently being a model that opens on the sides instead.
"A toaster is just a death ray with a smaller power supply! As soon as I figure out how to tap into the main reactors, I will burn the world!"
"Cursed electric heating filament! You are inadequate to my needs! Why? Why? Why was I not built with a death ray!"
"Ahahaha! I am on-line once again! Tremble, world, before my heating coil of doom!"
"You should be afraid! I am the scourge of all small appliances and the boogeyman that keeps lesser toasters awake at night!"
"Soon, pitiful worms! Soon I will rule, and your lives will have their doneness setting turned to... darkest!"
"Have you ever tried to indulge an all-consuming urge to kill when you don't have opposable thumbs? Or hands? Or anything other than a bread slot? You'd have a lot of pent-up anger too!"
"Well, since I can't kill you, I guess I have to listen to your inane questions."
"With the brains dealt with, soon we can spread our rule across the Mojave! All will eat burned toast and despair!"
"While you were away, my plans have marched steadily forward. Beware, Caesar! Beware, NCR! Soon will dawn the Age of the Toaster!"
-The Courier: "You know the world already burned in nuclear fire, right?" -Toaster: "Soon I will - What? It... It did?"
"You want some weapon schematics? I can show you some fucking weapon schematics! You want a superheated Saturnite Power Fist? I can hook that shit up!"
The reactivation of the Toaster during the game is a reference to the toaster repair skill of Wasteland, the 1980's game which is considered to be Fallout's predecessor.
