The thermic lance is a weapon in Fallout: New Vegas.
Characteristics
An industrial metalworking tool which can be used as a melee weapon. It is heavy, but deals considerable damage.
The thermic lance is very durable, and also resists damage to itself if hit when used defensively (taking only 0.5% of normal durability damage). However, due to its automatic attack-type it will degrade at a faster rate than other weapons when used.
It has a special "Scrap Heap" V.A.T.S. attack; a powerful forward thrust adding +25% damage, at the cost of 5 extra AP. This requires a Melee Weapons skill of 50.
Unlike most melee weapons, holding down the attack button when wielding the thermic lance will cause continuous damage to targets in contact with the tip.
Although the thermic lance has a relatively low critical damage rating and critical chance multiplier, both are offset by its automatic operation, which gives approximately 5 chances per second to inflict a critical hit.

Notes
- Full Maintenance further augments this weapons durability, making it extremely resilient in the field.
- With general damage perks (such as Bloody Mess, etc.), psycho and type specific perks (such as Purifier, etc.) the weapon can become fairly strong against most wasteland creatures, even for a character not focused in Melee Weapons.
- The weapon is affected by Super Slam!, Slayer, Melee Hacker and Unstoppable Force.
- This weapon can make full use of poisons such as Bleak Venom, Silver sting, Mother Darkness and Tremble. Bleak Venom in particular is truly devastating, adding considerable damage over time when also combined with the melee speed upgrade perks.
- It's recommended that a V.A.T.S. special move apply the initial poisoning to further boost the damage from the weapon by 25% (stacks with psycho or slasher as well).
- If using a companion who attacks with Melee Weapons or Unarmed attacks, use of the Spray ‘n Pray perk may be prudent so they do not dash in front of the automatic attack.
Behind the Scenes
- Thermic lance is another name for the thermal lance, a real-world metalworking tool.
