For an overview of plasma rifles in the Fallout universe, see plasma rifle.
The Smitty Special is a heavily modified Winchester P94 which was first created by the legendary Smitty, the blacksmith of the Adytum, Boneyard in 2161, who was also the only one able to improve the Winchester P94 into a turbo version at that time, with a higher rate of fire.
This weapon is a GRA plasma caster, and it features an array of dizzying modifications that allow the weapon to produce an almost constant stream of plasma bolts.
The gun itself looks like a plasma caster but with a cleaner casing, lights on the front, and flat magnetic stabilizing blades.
It sounds different than the normal plasma caster, and has a similar sound of a Tesla cannon or ED-E's upgraded weapon.
In some situations, this weapon won't turn up in the Vendortron's sales list a week after Gloria has died.
This weapon is fully automatic, unlike other plasma casters. This causes the weapon to degrade almost as fast as the Gatling laser.
While The Smitty Special has a higher rate of fire than an un-modded plasma caster, with the HS electrode modification the two are roughly identical in DPS, making The Smitty Special a dubious improvement in real-time combat. In V.A.T.S., however, The Smitty Special gets an edge over the plasma caster since, as an automatic weapon, it will get three shots (instead of two normally) for every one shot from the plasma caster.
pcps3xbox360 Sometimes, if Gloria Van Graff is dead, The Smitty Special will not be purchasable from Vendortron.[verified]
pc Use this fix in the console: startquest xx00093c, then resetquest xx00093c. This could also be done in reverse order.
xbox360 This weapon may jam while in its firing sequence, causing it to continuously fire without using any ammunition. The weapon will still degrade and still cause damage. This can be fixed by switching weapons. [verification needed]
