Shot BOS guy[]

So, I was using tgm and going around shooting everyone with the alien blaster. When I opened the door to the BOS checkpoint, the guy looked like an enclave soldier in the dark and I blasted him to ashes. I went to the citadel and everyone became hostile. I turned on a stealth boy and fast traveled away. Li and some other guy are now staying in one spot and the only thing I can say to them is let's go, but they won't move. I think Garza is dead, what command could I use to resurrect him and bring to me? Also, does the guy in the checkpoint have a specific ID?

Return to Taft Tunnels[]

Returning to tunnels had no enclave left to loot for power armor or weapons on Xbox 360.

EXPLOIT (Expanded)[]

NOT A BUG: An exploit actually. If you get right next to the wall of the Control Room while the Colonel and James are locked inside, and you are in third person, you can access a number of things akin to unlocking the bunker door in the National Guard Armory. You can talk to/pickpocket/access Colonel Autumn, the Enclave Soldier to his left, as well as James when he comes to the door when he is dieing. You can take all of these 3 peoples items once they have died, thus this is the first time you can get the Colonel's equipment (10mm Pistol, Uniform), and the last time you can get James' Vault 101 outfit. Talking to the Enclave Soldier yields only one dialogue option. If you try to talk to the Colonel, the dialogue box will be blank, and this often causes him to turn to Janice and shoot her before he normally would. Repeated attempts at talking, can also skip events ahead further without the normal dialogue being spoken, in essence like skipping through a conversation normally. It may also cause the Colonel and James to just stand around, without James activating/overloading the Purifier. If this occurs, the quest can still be continued by talking to Doctor Li, who will say something along the lines of "We need to get out of here". If you continue the quest normally and return later, James, Autumn, and the Enclave soldier will be gone. Finally, after James comes to the door to talk, you can interupt him at any point before he dies, and are given the normal dialogue options that existed for him. Even after he falls to the ground dieing (but not yet dead), you can revive him by simply talking to him, he will often lay there for a little bit, but continued dialogue will often times cause him to stand back up, even after everyone else has died.

HELP![]

hey guys, I'm at the part where james is killed after he activatied some thing-doohickey, i did the quest just fine so after getting to the control room i see doctor li on the stairs looking into the control room and when i approach the bulk door it got shut! after some speaking the col shot the scientist girl james was with and then james gone and turn on the thing-doohickey that killed everybody in the room and he approach the door and said "run...RUN!!" and then i was like "lol what, you're not telling me what to do noob" and then after a few seconds (5-10) i turned around and saw dr li with her face covered in her hands and then i approach her and then SOMEHOW the dialogue said "James... he's gone" but there isn't no voice, the mouth wasn't moving and stuff and it frooze like that (but the game was still running, i can load etc)

so i'm asking : is there any WAY for me to skip the dialogue via commands? or something? because i did setstage to advance to the next level but i'm afraid that dr li wil still be there and not at the citial thing please help update : i did the setstage thing and it doesnt work :( everything was the same bael treated me as if i'm a stranger and i can't ge tin the lab 58.11.28.197 10:16, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

bugs?[]

Im at the part where you have to escort the scientists and they wont follow me, they just enter project purity and stand still, ive tried reloading a previously saved game, and nothing seems to be happening, please help. (Xbox360) _ _ _ Ok i've read this whole section plus the bugs listed on the main article, and i seem to be experiencing a new one.

I have completed all main quests up until this one, and i have used cheats from time to time to get "unstuck" from different, highly annoying locations. (TCL command).

I have successfully completed the sub tasks of;.

  • Go to the Rivet City Science Lab / Join the Scientists at Project Purity.
  • Clear Project Purity of any remaining Mutant Threat.

But this is where i cannot get past, "Once James arrives at the control room, he asks the player to carry out some maintenance tasks to bring the project back online."

This has not happened for me, i have successfully escorted them into the Facility however i am not getting any dialog options for anyone apart from what was avaliable prior to "Clearing Project Purity of any remaining Mutant Threat".

I am wondering if this is because i have cleared the facility of all mutants BEFORE starting this mission (NOTE: Except the 2 in the Basement which i killed during this quest).

I chose to follow Dad back to Rivet City after completing the Vault 112 Quest, and did NOT cheat at any point during that quest or this one.

I have not used any of the documented glitches either.

I have tried to turn on the Flood Control switch and i get the message "This is not accessible yet" or something to that effect.

What am i doing wrong? Or how can i pass this quest without restarting the entire game? --Jenkins08 20:56, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Jenkins I have the exact same problem, although I've never used any cheats, I wasn't aware there were any. Will you report back if you find a solution?--89.184.41.135 18:16, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Ok i think i found the solution... After patching the game to 1.5 i was able to get past this bit by going back to Dad and asking him everything in the voice options again, there is a question about 1 or 2 from the bottom that says "Anything i can do to help?" which wasn't there previous to updating the game... That is how he asks to carry out some maintenance tasks therefore the player was able to proceed :) --Jenkins08 23:03, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

_ _ _

Game Breaker the bulkhead is closed and I cant get the fuses from dad.

I also see Col Autumn in there, but hes not doing anything. Is there a key I could access? --75.57.116.127 00:00, 13 May 2009 (UTC)TheFrogger

-Solved- This one Requires a little patience. Eventually your dad will get near the bulkhead. Walk towards him and he will walk against the bulkheadhitting the wall. After a couple seconds he will teleport across the bulkhead and you can talk to him.

Also, throwing grenades onto the rotundra ceiling from outside makes them actually fall into the rotundra.

Possibly you could kill Col. Autumn this way?

Possible Bug: Can't find remaining Muties, all seems clear but can't tell "Dad". -> Overlooked door

Are the Enclave officers presented with their names?--dotz 20:20, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

i have encountered a bug where dr. li just stands outside the citedel and paces about halfway down the wall to the right. i have tried pushing her and trying to get her to attack me so she will go over to the intercom but it has not worked. any way to fix this? --J.J.-Lopez 06:36, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

[360 ver] It's possible, to enter the room where Dad is and be their while the dialog happens, but you can't escape. Sometimes you can pull out your gun and shoot people inside, yet has no effect. When outside the room, using the cam swing technique, You can pickpocket colonel autumn during the dialog, you can place a live frag on him, but dad still activates the Radiation. Giving Dad Rad-x, Rad away, and Stimpacks with the pick pocket, will have no effect. It's possible to talk to Dad after he falls to the ground. But It is the same canned dialogue. Then he will stand up and walk a few steps then die. There is no way I could find to change the outcome. Dad still kills himself with everyone else. [PC] The first time doing this part of the quest returning to the rotunda to find colonel autumn i was on the catwalk area for a good couple seconds before the emergency bulkhead closed but i was only on the outside part. Just to see what would happen, loaded the autosave and ran up barely making it inside before the bulkhead closed. Enclosed with everyone who was to die, i was unable to take out a weapon or use my fists i was able to talk to colonel autumn, interrupting his dialogue but he didn't say anything. I was able to talk to dad with the same options as before enclave came during this time. the explosion went off injuring me and ultimately an increasing level of radiation killed me, by the time it killed me it was at 44rad/s. Charon was unaffected. I tried to replicate this a second time but the game crashed, on restarting the game, every time loading from the same autosave, the emergency bulkhead began shutting almost immediately and I was unable to enter the chamber. What is the cause of this? --User:msdrahcir

Was also able to enter the rotunda before the door closed [PS3]. Talking to Dad gives same dialog options as before, talking to the Col gives a completely empty text box, talking to the soldiers gives a response, but only text option is "I have to go now" or something similar. Forgot to talk to the scientist before she was killed, tho if you stand in the Col's firing line, he'll walk around you to shoot her. Also, if you steal his ammo, he'll still shoot. I couldn't draw a weapon in the rotunda, but maybe that's the way it is for the whole scene? I'll have to mess with it more. Couldn't interact with number pad either (still says it's not receiving power) despite Dad punching in the overload code.... 71.112.206.79 23:36, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

On a different note, Is it possible to put a bunch of land mines on the catwalk outside the memorial and kill all or some of the enclave soldiers? Does it change the outcome? No it does mot, it only kills a few of the Enclave soilders and makes it a little easier getting back to your Dad. [3:11 pm central, Jan 25, 2009 by: Morio-kun]

Be careful what you do before starting The Waters of Life. I started a new game with the intent to find all Bobbleheads, skill books and stat boosters (i.e. Lucky 8 Ball) and to reach level 30 without completing the main quest. This was a mistake! I went to Little Lamplight and rescued Fawkes and recovered the G.E.C.K. before I went to Rivet City and talked to Dr. Li concerning Dad's whereabouts. After I secured the G.E.C.K., Colonel Autumn and his butt-boys flash-banged me and took me to Raven Rock. Upon Leaving Raven Rock I get the message to report to Elder Lyons, but I don't. Instead I go rescue Dad from Dr. Braun. Dad and I run back to Rivet City to meet Dr. Li, but the proton gates are up and I don't have Liberty Prime to break them! Dad glitches through each gate, but they stop me in my tracks. Finally we make it to Dr. Li, have a discussion, and make for Project Purity. Only problem is, I went to the Jefferson Memorial weeks earlier and killed all the super-mutants. All dead, no bodies to break up, because I used the Metal Blaster and dusted them all! Dad, Li, and her team stay outside of the Memorial wating for me to kill the super-mutants. Oh, and the gate to the Citadel is still closed! I use the glitch to get into the Citadel by dropping through the nearby rubble. I go into the lab at the Citadel and the Lyon's Pride is ready to assault the Purity Project with Liberty Prime. We kill the Enclave soldiers as we make our way to the Jefferson Memorial, and upon arrival, Dad and Dr. Li are fighting Enclave soldiers. Janice and the other team members are dead! Dad and Li are unconscious until Liberty mops up the remaining Enclave. I go into the Memorial with Sarah Lyons, then into the Purity chamber, and Col. Autumn, who had been standing behind the bulkhead door, appears where he should be, but no dialogue is initiated--he merely stands there looking at me. I kill him, but Sarah's not in the room. I exit, find Sarah and return, making certain that she goes into the Purity chamber ahead of me. I enter and two Enclave soldiers attack. Sarah and I kill them, and the game finishes as it should from there. I enter the code and then wake up Two Weeks Later in the Citadel. I start Take It Back!, and guess what? Dad and Dr. Li are still waiting outside of the Memorial for me to kill the remaining super-mutants! I finish Aqua Cura before making my way to the abandoned car tunnel to meet Liberty Prime. (Dad and Li are still waiting--I wonder if killing Fawkes inside the Memorial would count as killing the remaining super-mutants? I'll have to try this...) I return to the Citadel with the satellite uplink info. to give to Scribe Rothchild, but I do something really stupid first--I activate the Vault terminal to learn the location of Vault 87! Now Rothchild is glitched, because he's trying to start two separate speeches--the one where he tells me about Vault 87, and the one where he tells me to go to the Airbase. He stutters occasionally when I click on him with the A button, and he sometimes walks out to the viewscreen after telling me to follow him, but he starts neither speech; his walking gait stutters a bit, then he goes on with his life like I'm not there! If I hadn't accessed the Vault terminal and activated "Picking Up The Trail," I would have been able to complete the new Broken Steel DLC, but, since I overwrote an auto-save, I had to start a new game and work my way back to Broken Steel. Be careful how you move through the Wasteland! Some mistakes are permanent!

--

[360] I have experienced another game-breaking bug with this quest. For some reason, James won't enter the memorial. All of the other doctors are in and moving around, with the exception of the rude bastard in the gift shop area (I forget his name) who also stands in the same place (I'm not sure if this is normal). I have tried everything. No monsters are alive in or around the memorial, turret inside is destroyed, and the basement is clear. Upon firing on James until he's unconscious, he simply stands back up and refuses to move.

Now, I first noticed his movement (or lack thereof) bug when we were first leaving Rivet City with the rest of the doctors. He was 'floating' above the rocks to the left over the ledge (facing the ship) as I exited to the bridge leading to shore. I attempted to 'push' him back on to solid ground, but came to no avail. Speed walked to memorial and went inside. Doctors showed up, James got stuck in his standing loop outside the memorial. Game is updated and I have Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt DLCs installed. Rhah 02:54, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

-- It seems possible to kill the Colonel from inside the drainage tube simply by firing a weapon at the disembarking troops after the vertibird lands. I killed a man in a yellow trenchcoat and 2 enclave soldiers, however, the Colonel appears alive and well when I reached the rotunda.

-- Possible bug? I got Super Mutants in the purifier room AFTER the Enclave entered. May be because I waited for 12 hours to make it morning right before turning the wheel to unclog the pipe. Screws up the cutscene every time, unless I use tai, tcai, and tcl then go around zapping all the mutants off the record. 112.201.202.120 15:31, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

--It's just a small graphical bug, but when your dad is telling you what to do to get project purity running and he is inside the rotunda, he may appear to be writing on a clipboard. In his hand, though, instead of holding just a pencil, he is holding a pencil and a revolver sticking through his hand.

Garza[]

It says it's possible to procure 5 stimpaks in the corridors, but it's not and I have 0 stimpaks and no buffout. So if you don't have stimpaks the only option is to leave him. And if you don't have a high enough speech skill, you couldn't convince Dr. Li to leave him, so you would be stuck.

This happened to me, so what I did was get out of Taft Tunnels by myself, leaving them behind with Garza, fast traveled to Megaton, bought some stimpaks, then returned to the tunnels and gave them to Garza. I have no idea why, but before entering the Taft Tunnels from the memorial I only had Charon with me, but upon enterring the second stage of the tunnels, where you need to help Garza, Dogmeat appeared, he wasn't set to follow me and I had to talk to him to tell him to come with me. I had left him in my Megaton home successfully for many in game days at this point before he decided to randomly appear. Anyone else have this happen? Or is this a unique bug for me :P 122.104.85.25 09:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, this happened to me, but not long after dogmeat went MIA for good. So be careful.

Note: Did you look for dogmeat at Vault 101? --75.57.116.127 00:02, 13 May 2009 (UTC)TheFrogger

This happened to me as well. Charon and Dogmeat were both in my Megaton home at the time. It appears that they spawn in the tunnel at the same moment that Doctor Li decided to stop the group for the stimpacks. It appears to happen whether or not Garza is alive when you pass through the doorway (Although I killed him in the second area when testing this). 199.17.68.25 06:35, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

You do know you can convince Garza he's done for instead of convince Dr. Li? If you fail the Dr. Li speech check try the Garza one.--Glewis

i maneged to bypass this whole thing because at the part were your supposed to hold off the enclave whail lee opens the door, garza ran right past me, right up to a soldier, turned around started to run back, and was shot to pecesKatikar 16:28, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

Daniel Agincourt[]

Daniel Agincourt can be given a pistol during this quest. I know he accepts a normal 10mm pistol, and cannot be given the Zhu-Rong v418 Chinese pistol. My conjecture is that he won't take any unique pistols. He's pretty useless though, even if he were to accept a Scoped .44 magnum (Which I didn't bother to test).

When you walk past the Brotherhood soldier to escape the tunnel, feral ghouls spawn behind you. Since all the NPCs lag behind you, they're in the way, but it triggers their fleeing routine, which brings them to safety while the soldier cuts them down. If Daniel has a gun, he stays where he is and opens fire, which means he gets swarmed by a half dozen feral ghouls and is killed before the soldier can wipe them out.

I secured the area, put away my weapon, walked (ran) past the soldier, and the ghouls came. I turned around, drawing my weapon, saw him shooting at ghouls clustered around him, and before I could even fire a shot, he was dead and the soldier had cut down the ghouls. 74.14.118.127 17:04, 2 December 2008 (UTC) Bold text

Alex Dargon and Daniel Agincourt[]

Two questions. 1. Why were they in their by themselves? Were they left over from the original Project Purity? I doubt that one. Or did they somehow hear about it and decided to work on it together? 2.Do they only appear when The Waters of Life happens or do they appear at the Jefferson Memorial before the mission also? P.S. How would they still be alive? I mean seriously, there's a ton of Muties at the Memorial. 68.112.143.25 00:35, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Their dialogue paths indicate that when they were young, both Dargon and Agincourt worked with James over 20 years ago on Project Purity. Obviously, the whole concept of Project Purity is a breath-taking BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal). What idealist *wouldn't* want to be a part of that dream? FO3 is a post-apocalytic game which has a number of bittersweet (but hopeful) scenarios to play out. Since James and Madison insist that it's still feasible to create the Waters of Life, D and A decide to come right back to the Memorial.
Note that D and A spawn after your Dad talks to Dr Li in Rivet City. It's possible for them to die to Super Mutants, though not likely if you are following the proper story arc (Scientific Pursuits requires you to clear out the JM *before* you go find Dad). --Theicla 19:23, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I had a bug in which the two of them would stand around at the terminal near the end of the first part of the tunnel. They went to that spot on their own before I could tell Li to move on but after I told Li only she and Garza moved on and those two are still there. Broken Steel is installed and I'm on a PS3 --Wildthing202 22:27, 11 December 2009 (EST)

Bug[]

So, I'm at the part where the Enclave invade the area, and in the place where you have to return to, they just stand there. Nothing happens. They all just stand there.

Help.--98.199.214.202 23:08, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Did you already get the G.E.C.K.? That messes up the storyline and you'll probably have to go back to an earlier save.(Thats what happened to me, I ended up starting a new game.)--TheFrogger 18:58, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

There is another alternative, though. If you can glitch your way into the Citadel, (See Video) the storyline countinues normally without them.

(It's actually faster than the vid to get to the citadel if you go under the old bridge) --TheFrogger 19:03, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

Dad[]

Ok after finishing this quest, and completing the game up untill the end of the american dream,i went back to the rotunda and glitched my way in,you know,to exploit the colonel autumn glitch, but when i walked up the the control room door,i james james in the control room, still standing against the door,so,i exploited a glitch to gain acess to to the door from inside the control room, and i walked in,and then james was hostile! He didnt attack me but ran up to colonel autumn, got shot once and then walke dup to a door, and executed hiss "radiation death" animation, pretty weird huh?but this aint the firsst time an NPC has come back to life on my game Werewolfhell 18:59, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't want him dead! Can't I revese pickpocket him some Rad-X or something :P Is he dead forever, in the whole storyline? --I3art 20:32, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

He's dead but the voice files and interrogation sequence still work as normal, except he just appears as a corpse at each of the scenes, and it bugs the end,he is dead when enter the Jefferson memorial in Take it Back! so you need to open fire on the guards to trigger the end game Werewolfhell 09:41, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

I apologise,i thought you were talking about colonel autumn, anyway, yes james is dead throughout the whole storyline unless the script goes wrong at the end of the waters of life if he doesnt die he either keeps his PP dialogue or turns generic(Only saying stuff like "Yes?" or "hello" =and the only dialgoue option is "See you later") Werewolfhell 09:44, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't bet on it. All we saw is that in the control room everyone suddenly collapsed. Seeing that the Lone Wanderer (or the Lyons gal) survived the same ordeal later, it is not entirely impossible he's in Enclave captivity.--Amitakartok 22:41, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Well if he is, you'll end up killing your dad, since you blow up Raven Rock and the Enclave Base at the end of Broken Steel.--TheFrogger 19:06, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

Large Enclave Battle[]

I just did Waters of Life with my level 20 character and that large battle with the Enclave Troops featured 8 Enclave soldiers on the ground floor, and at least as many on the upper catwalks. I'm pretty sure that the battle is just a leveled battle, and suspect that the "glitch" where if you go into the back room the enclave soldiers keep spawning was simply the result of a high-level character completing the quest late in the game. Anyone else have any information on the matter? Some Sort 20:40, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I believe this to be a glitch of some sort. If you sneak towards the back room and keep shooting the Enclave soldiers fast enough, you can shoot up to 20 of them in that room and consequently get a LOT of Enclave Power Armor, Tesla Armor and/or Plasma Rifles. Neoptolemos 7 April 2009

Dr. Li & Garza Lack Of Conversation+Movement?[]

I moved from the first part to the second part of the tunnels (Taft Tunnel) where apparently Garza asks for the stimpaks. Instead, Dr.Li simply says to keep quiet and get to the tunnel, and my only response is to say I've got to go. Same with Garza, except he says what do you want. They refused to move from the first bit just after the door. I got really annoyed, and hit Garza. He runs away, and Dr.Li flees back into the first part of the tunnel. I follow, and she justs goes back through the door. She then sees Garza fleeing, and repeats. When I kill Garza, she walks slowly (without me doing anything) to about halfway along the metal walkway (just before eyebot helmet) then stops. Same dialogue choices, i.e. none. I assume I have to restart to before the second door? -ShadowFlygon

it's a crappy/frustrating glitch which apparently you can't solve -- just load a previous save (my previous safe was Tranquility Lane, ha!) [A] 19:58, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
In my game, it was still on the "Escort Doctor Li to the evacuation point." stage (number 80). I hacked the terminal before she got there (just saw a terminal and thought it was a turret control at first), so that bug could be related to this. Anyhow, I fixed it by using setstage 14e8b 85. At that point, the other two (Alex and Daniel) came running in from where they'd been stuck and Dr. Li started the "Garza needs help" bit, and the quest progressed normally from there. 162.252.201.32 11:11, July 7, 2015 (UTC)

Moved from article[]

  • It is possible to get a total of 8 full sets of Tesla power armor. The upper and apparently unreachable floors with Enclave soldiers can be reached with careful barrel stacking and several strategic jumps. You will only need one barrel to do this trick, but make sure to set off the gas leak as it will block you from reaching the upper level. They can also be looted with explosives or powerful guns, blowing up their body parts, having them scatter to the lower level and taking their items.
  • The ending sequence of this quest, and the very beginning of the next, is probably the best point in the game to stop the main quest and do the side quests, explore. The Enclave soldiers appear after the completion of this chapter (which spices things up and makes decent power weapons available). What's more, if you are careful during the "Mad Escape to the Citadel" you can acquire a full set of Tesla armor (the best general armor available) and Plasma weapons. So, after entering the Citadel approach Elder Lyons and ask him for permission and he'll grant you Power Armor training. You have to ask Paladin Gunny, the Sergeant training troops in the courtyard, after getting permission, and "Bingo!", you're set. Thanks to the DLC, you can get the corresponding perk by simply passing the Anchorage War simulation as well.
  • When you are still in the pipe, you can kill the Enclave soldiers and the Enclave officer exiting the Vertibird through the fence with your guns (either with a carefully aimed shot or through VATS). Vengeance works wonders on Vertibirds, destroying them in about four seconds of sustained fire, and it feels so good.
  • The upper levels are accessible using the gas-leaking boiler-like object. First, tell Dr. Li and the party to wait where they are before you attempt this. Then, the boiler has a guard rail that runs around it, and several rusty pipes extending from the top into the floor. Jump on the guardrail, then try to jump on the pipe. You probably can't get to the top of the pipe in the first jump, but you'll get a foothold in the geometry. While running into the center of the pipe, try to slide to the side of it and then run up the curved part that hits the top of the boiler. Once you're on top of the rust-colored pipe, you can jump a few more times to get to the platform. Alternatively, you can stand on top of the toolbox at the base of one of the curved pipes. Jumping forward onto the pipe should give you a hold, from which you can get on top of the machine and make your way to the ledge (This is the fastest and easiest way). To the left is a ladder that you can "open" or "close" but won't take you anywhere. You can hear a Vertibird probably at the top of the ladder. To the right is a door to a different section of the Taft Tunnels. Through the door are 2 Enclave troops and one of them has another Tesla armor. Alternatively, stack 2 barrels (there are a few down the Taft tunnels) against the foot of the boiler like structure (one barrel standing up and the other lying down) so that they will not move when you to jump first on the lying down barrel before hopping on the standing barrel. After that you should be able to jump onto the curve pipes extending out of the boiler, allowing you to get on top of the boiler and subsequently onto the platforms where the Enclave soldiers are.
  • Don't be surprised if the team is down to just Dr. Li. when you get back. It seems that once you go through the door to the other part of Taft Tunnels, they ignore your instructions to stay put and try to run through the Ghouls up head on their own. Only once you've come back to the big door Dr. Li hacked will she (and any remaining members of the team) run back to you, probably trailing some Ghouls in pursuit. Of course if you've put practically any points into a weapon skill of your choice at this point you should be able to rush through the tunnels, dispatching the ghouls with ease, and before they have a chance to harm your party members.
  • There is a room with a door which you can activate just before the console Dr. Li goes to hack. If you shut everyone in this room Dr. Li will still appear and start hacking the console, but the others will be safe while you take your time to kill the Enclave soldiers.
  • While escaping through the tunnels Garza will occasionally follow you as you attack Enclave soldiers. When running into the room with 5 soldiers and the Inaccessible door at the back he will run in with you and steal weapons and ammo off of the dead soldiers. The most powerful weapon he steals (Most likely the plasma rifle) will still be strapped to his back when the party arrives to the Citadel, should the player keep him alive long enough to get there. If the player chooses he can be pick pocketed and all of the ammo he took from the Enclave can be taken back. (PS3 Version)
  • With a bit of planning and a lot of luck, it's actually possible for the player to enter the chamber before the door shuts and Autumn begins interrogating your father. First, before entering the rotunda, you should unequip ALL of your weapons and armour so that you can run faster. You should also probably save before entering in case you should fail (the rotunda autosave sometimes starts with the door shut for reasons unknown). When you enter, the moment the area finishes loading you should sprint towards the purifier control room. If you're lucky, you should make it past the door JUST as it begins to close. You can't get out, of course, but it's a nifty trick nontheless. (Done on Xbox 360. PS3 and PC unconfirmed.)
  • Trying to get the barrels aligned correctly is not easy and very time consuming. I found it to be easier to throw up a few grenades into the area of the bodies and the body parts start flying around and down to the floor. Once I cleared the room of enemies and asked my followers to wait for me, I threw up some grenades onto the ledge and looted the various body parts. Given that you only need a single body part to loot the body, frag grenades are plentiful and rarely used (most players stick to a single weapon in the middle of a fight) and weigh only 0.5 pounds each, I thought it was a fair trade for Enclave power armor or Tesla armor. You may not get all of them, but it beats kicking the barrel around. I tried it a second time by hitting Jet for extra AP, Med-X for Damage resist, Psycho and Yao guai meat for extra damage. Since the AI for the Enclave run around for a good kill position I was able to kill most around the same spot. Then threw up a couple of grenades and the body parts flew down for me to loot the armor. This only works if you do not use energy based weapons; just in case you get "lucky" and the bodies get turned into goo or ash, then there would be no body parts to fly aroundKingclyde 19:25, 18 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

Hacking a terminal???[]

Where is the hackable terminal? If it's the one near the five Enclave soldiers, then it's a bit confusing, as Li hacks that one so that we can proceed. This was also the location where everyone died save Li and two other scientists (since I have crappy freehand aim I did not want to waste ammo on the soldiers on the catwalk and the morons just rushed in)...--Amitakartok 19:59, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Accessing the upper balcony.[]

"In the tunnels there is a very hard terminal that will allow you to open the flood control doors and avoid an extremely tough fight with about 5 or so Enclave troops in power armor, some carrying Plasma Rifles. The bright side of this fight of course is five suits of power armor. The terminal is worth 60 XP and might be worth hacking just for that. Many of the enclave troops are on inaccessible upper levels, and care must be taken to blow bits of them down onto the floor so that their bodies may be searched."

I suppose technically this is a glitch but...

Inacessible is incorrect. It's acessible with a bit of wall hugging and some unarmed trickey. (xbox 360)

1) Find the room, with the oven and couch in it...

Go past the computer terminal, go right and past the bathtub and through the door marked taft tunnel. Then when you get to a door on the left, get ready to stealth up, open the door and you should see a couch and table on a raised metal platform, to the right of the door is an oven.

2) Once in the room, stealth, jump onto the high ledge from the stairs just before the lockers and hug the wall to the enclave and unarm teleport to them.

Stealth up, stealth boy or suit - If you don't stealth up the enclave may move, stopping unarmed from reaching them.

On the last set of stairs just before the lockers, go straight towards the wall and jump up, you will find that you are higher than the railing, then travel along the wall towards the enclave and once you are at the barrier...

You'll notice you can't jump, but fear not, you can use unarmed to teleport to them, nothing like a deathclaw surprise ^_^

This gives full access to the 'inaccessible' balcony, via a door back to the balcony of the previous section.

Of course this will only work once, as you will probably kill the soliders but it does enable you to collect all the armor and things previously out of reach before moving on.

Anyway hope this proves useful to someone :D

Losing companions ...[]

I decided to make all my companions, Jericho, Clover, and Dogmeat wait for me in Tenpenny tower and after finishing this mission for the power armor and returning to the tower they were all gone and I still Can't find them...

They probably went back to their original places. Jericho to Megaton, Clover to Paradise Falls, Dogmeat to Vault 101. They'll have been 'fired' and you'll need to use the RL-3 exploit again to get all of them back (on 360 and PS3)--TheFrogger 18:55, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

New radio speeches by the Enclave and GNR[]

Does anyone agree with me that we could put in "Notes" that after completing this quest, the Enclave (propaganda) radio channel will start diffusing a new speech by President Eden on which we can hear that "the Enclave is now taking action" in "their quest to establish order and peace". On this speech we can also hear Colonel Autumn, who says that the Enclave is proud to help the American people.

I was just surprised to hear this at first, because I thought the Enclave radio channel was a sort of "static" channel that would just randomly play speeches that the president had already pre-recorded.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion. I think Three Dog will also try to convince people on his channel that the Enclave are just screwing up the Capital Wasteland again.

    • ???? I think you should beat the game before posting this question. I'm not gonna ruin the surprise but the president is still very much alive. Well maybe not alive but is till around to add new speeches to and what not. .

Load Screen Bug[]

I can't get out of the room and escort Doctor Li out after Dad kills himself. Is there any way to get around this, or am I going to have to reload an earlier save and try it again? Better yet, if I do reload an earlier save and try to get out again, will I still have this issue?

after i clear the place they all walk in and stay at door they dont move at all, and there isnt any dialouge options at all on any of them anybody know what to do

(I also have the same problem do you have to restart the quest? please help i am frustrated and want to move on.)

funny...[]

I don't know if this is already posted but, when Dad is killed, his head get through the door. I talked to him and... "I've hearing good things about you!"BBuzz 07:28, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Clearing Mutants[]

I've seemed to have cleared the whole place of mutants, turned off the turret and I can't seem to continue on, getting real frustrating, anyone else having this problem?

- Solution:

Open console with tilde (~) type in setstage 00014e8b 26 then type in setstage 00014e8b 27 Now, move in to the control room (In the rotunda, in front of the console without power) type in prid 00019d09 now type in moveto player Talk to dad, proceed with game.

Jefferson Memorial Rotunda, Obtaining all the Items in the Airlock[]

During the end of the speech between Dad and Colonel Autumn after talking to Doctor Li about escaping the Memorial. The player is able to stack the 4 oil drum located inside the Rotunda around the spot where Doctor Li was standing. Once stacked jumping onto the railing to the side of the Airlock control switch, then onto the barrels will allow you access of the glass roof. This is tricky so save once the barrels are placed, then following each jump. To the good part, once on the roof you are able to move the location of the Enclave soldiers, through the use of explosives. I found using the Missle Launcher to be very effective at moving them to Emergency Bulkhead door, also frag grenades worked. Be warned that there is splash damage from the use of explosives and there are high radiation levels aswell. You will get 2 sets of power armour and 2 plasma rifles. To someone like myself who loves collecting everything possible, there shall be much smug-ness after this tricky work.

Then use, You must face directly towards the body with the cursor directly on the body in first person view. Once this is done, hold down the button that changes the perspective and you should be able to rotate the camera. Rotate the camera half-way and you should see a "Search Enclave Soldier". As used on Colonel Autumn.

Loading Screen Bug[]

For some reason right after dad dies in the chamber, I talk to Doctor Li and she says, "We have 2 get out of here, now!" and then she goes out through one of the doors, but for some reason when i go into 2 follow her , the loading screen freezes/ glitches and i have 2 restart my xbox360... i have tried reloading the save and previous saves but the same glitch keeps happening (i go through one of the doors and the loading screen freezes and i have 2 restart my xbox). PLEASE, ANYONE KNOW HOW 2 FIX THIS OR GET AROUND IT!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Clearing the Super Mutants (Xbox 360)[]

So I've cleared out every enemy in the Jefferson Memorial including the ones in the basement. When I return the DAD he still asks if the area is safe. I think this may be because I have already completed 'The American Dream' up to the point before I return to the Citadel and speak to Elder Lyons. Col. Autumn can be seen in the Rotunda but I cannot reach him. I think that the area is still 'unsafe' because of Col. Autumn. AND I'm not even able to enter the Citadel. Soo I don't know I think i might be royally f*cked

This actually happened to me too. Theres a video on youtube showing how to get into the citadel. I don't have time to find the link, but you should try to find it. --TheFrogger 19:58, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Is Li Essential?[]

Is Dcotor Li essential during the Citadel escort? I've put armor on everyone else, and I don't know if she needs any. TheFrogger 18:52, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

James has no dialogue[]

Having played through the game three times, I decided to skip parts of the main quest and start Tranquility Lane. I completed the quest without incident, but when James met up with Dr. Li in the lab, they talked and when it was time for me to speak to James about going to Jefferson Memorial, he had no dialogue. At all. As in, there are no dialogue options for me to pick from (not even 'I have to go now' or something) and he doesn't speak when I run past him. I went to the room with the Tranquility Loungers thinking I could remedy it from there, but once I spawned James, he immediately went and climbed into a Tranquility Lounger. There's no way for me to climb into the unoccupied Tranquility Lounger because it doesn't do anything when I select it. Countless console commands don't seem to solve it either. Has this ever happened to anyone else before? I have no way of advancing the main questline further. Smith Casey 12:38, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Theres a code to force finish quests, although I don't know it. I'd reccomend asking an admin or someone for it.--TheFrogger 19:55, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
completequest, if I'm not mistaken... only it doesn't seem to do anything. Quest logs don't show any change whatsoever. Resetting the quest with resetquest doesn't seem to help either. (Oh, and, by the way, apparently one of the patches fixes an instance where 'James has no dialogue during the Waters of Life' quest. I have patch 1.7 installed with all addons.) Companion issues[]

EDIT - Moot point, as I've statrted a new game, but DON'T HAVE COMPANIONS WAIT NEARBY WHEN DOING THIS QUEST!!!

I ran into a bit of a problem, and any help somone could give would be great.

At the beginning of the quest, just before going in to clear out the mutents, I desided to have RL 3 and Dogmeat wait for me at the entrance. After leaving the Citidel at the end, I tried going back to the memorial to find them. I find weird barier things set up everywhere, three or four non-hostile Enclave troops and an oficer, and RL 3 and Dogmeat are gone. At no point during the quest did I get a message that "Dogmeat is dead" or waiting at valt 101 or anything (and I don't think he's dead, since I'm lv 26 with broken steel installed). I checked valt 101 and Canterbury Commons anyway, but they aren't there. I'm on the 360. HELP!

Is it too late to go back to a previous save? --TheFrogger 19:41, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
yep. I overwrote my main save after getting to the citidel, THEN went and looked for them (stupid). my most resent save from before is 8 hours back.

Jefferson Memorial Map Marker Disappears[]

After Dad tells you to drain the intake valves, I exited the Memorial to go back to Megaton. When I brought up my map to fast-travel back the map marker was missing. I had to go to Rivet City and run back to the Memorial. Even after completing the quest the map marker is still missing and there is no reason to believe it will come back. Could someone else try and reproduce this bug? I am on Xbox 360. I have all the DLC installed and running patch 1.5.0.23. I can take a picture to show what I'm talking about. --ArmeniusLOD 07:32, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Dr. Madison No-Face[]

Dr. Li's face didn't load once I was in the tunnels, resulting in an eerie teeth and eyes composition. ^^ Also when I engaged her in conversation, the camera looked past her head and kept zooming until the whole screen was a dull yellow. Was her face being rendered miles away? :P Returned to normal once we were top-side. --Pastor Salad 23:57, October 7, 2009 (UTC)

unconfirmed bugs[]

  • It is possible that Dr. Preston from Rivet City will show up in the tunnels and follow you to the exit near the Citadel, however once out of the tunnels near the Citadel he will walk back to Rivet City.
  • After you fight your way up to the ground floor of the memorial and kill a few Enclave troops in the sandbag area you can walk to the exit door to see an Enclave officer guarding the door. Strangely enough, he is not hostile, and it is even possible to talk to him, though he gives only one reply.
  • When your James says he needs to talk to you (if you're evil) and you choose the option "it's my life", he will reply with "you are MY son" even if you're a female character.
  • If behave in a manner causing Janice Kaplinski to flee from you (such as attacking Daniel Agincourt or Garza) she will still be cowering when she appears in the control room with Colonel Autumn. Colonel Autumn will still shoot at where her torso would be, missing. He then unloads two clips into the floor, then starts backing up across the room, still missing. He starts to move erratically, still firing, and finally runs right up to her, killing her at point-blank range.

Taft Tunnels bugs[]

The Taft Tunnels potion of this quest is EXTREMELY buggy, I spent 10 hours fixing the bugs through the GECK, it finally works the way it was originally envisioned by the quest creators.

Here's the list of bugs, the solutions for GECK are below:

1) If you tell Dr. Li to wait, she will still follow you as soon as the player gets close to the very-hard locked terminal that opens the door. She will drag her entire team with her, and they all will probably be killed by either the Enclave or the ghouls. The game tries to cancel combat alarm on Dr Li and her team, but this simply doesn't work due to a mess in the game engine and in the scripts, so the enclave troopers WILL shoot Dr Li and her team and the ghouls WILL attack them.

2) If Dr. Li doesn't get there in time, the door will still open automatically, as if Dr Li hacked the terminal. The entire team incl. Dr. Li has a very low confidence, so instead of hacking the terminal, Dr Li (and her entire team) will be fleeing from the ghouls/Enclave troopers. They will be running around the tunnels, it's impossible to talk to them or to direct them or anything. It's impossible to get close to them to activate them, because NPCs are faster than the player character when fleeing, and even if you somehow managed to get close to them to activate, all you get is the message "Dr Li is fleeing."

3) The game doesn't explain to the player what he is supposed to do in the Taft Tunnels. After checking out the toolset, I finally understand how this is SUPPOSED to work: When you approach the terminal, an Enclave attack starts, which lasts for exactly 45 seconds. During this time, new Enclave troopers will appear whenever you kill any of them. There will ALWAYS be 4 troopers - two above on the balustrade and two below. However, due to a bug in the AI package, the two troopers on the ground will get stuck near the door marked as "inaccessible", instead or running inside the room. Even if they do enter the room, they will be running against a piece of furniture (some kind of boiler or something), because their guard location marker is incorrectly positioned inside this solid object and they obviously cannot pass through solid matter. They will also constantly bump into each other, pushing each other constantly outside the limits of the guard marker, because there is only enough place for one human being. All of this looks extremely ridiculous.

Another way to stop the infinite Enclave trooper wave right away is to hack the terminal yourself by sneaking to it (not relying on Dr. Li, who needs 45 sec. to hack the terminal, while the player can do it immediately, since hacking terminals costs no time for the player). Technically, the 45 sec. timer will still be running due to a bug in the script, but the infinite respawn of Enclave troopers will stop.

All of this should be explained to the player, either by a message in the upper left corner of the screen, that displays the timer countdown or by updating the quest objectives, or maybe Dr Li should say something, because Bethesda can't be seriously expecting every player to dig through the toolset to find out what the hell is going on, esp. since console players don't even have access to the GECK.

You can also go into sneak mode and wait for 45 seconds for the wave to stop. Problem is however, as soon as you approach the terminal and trigger the timer, Dr. Li and her entire team will ignore the Wait order and run towards the terminal, so the Enclave troopers will see them and shoot them. And as soon as the door opens, either when the 45 sec. timer is down to 0 or if the player hacks the terminal, the ghouls will attack the lab team as well.

4) There is a turret in the corridor right outside the door close to the terminal that is supposed to assist you against the Enclave troopers and ghouls, however, Bethesda forgot to actually enable the turret, so you can't see it in the game, you can only see it in the toolset. It's supposed to work like this: As soon as the terminal is hacked and the door opened through the terminal (either by the player or Dr Li), the turret goes online and starts shooting ghouls and enclave troopers as well, provided the Enclave troopers exit the room they are in into the corridor. But since the turret is not there in vanilla unfixed quest, this part is totally missing.

5) When Garza speaks about his heart condition, Dr Li approaches the player and asks for stimpacks. However, if the player told her to wait and moved away from her, she will run after the player through the entire dungeon, until she probably bumps into some ghouls or enclave troopers and gets herself killed, it all depends on the distance between Dr Li and the player, if the player moves swiftly (silent running, chinese stealth armor), Dr Li may run into a part of the tunnels where enemies are present. To fix this, the game needs to disable player controls when the player hits the Garza heart attack marker to prevent the player from moving away too far from Dr Li until she has spoken with the player about Garza.

Now, how to fix this terrible mess? First, we need to consider various player approaches to this mission. 3 approaches are possible:

1) Player tells Dr. Li and her team to follow from the start and drags them all along through the entire dungeon (incredibly stupid, but not all players are clever, lol)

2) Player ignores Dr Li completely and tells her to wait at the beginning of the Taft Tunnels and does everything alone - hacking the terminal, killing Enclave troopers, then, when the way is clear, the player returns to Dr Li and tells her to follow

3) Player tells Dr Li to wait, gets to the terminal, kills Enclave troopers for 45 seconds until the timer is down to 0, but cannot proceed further, because he lacks the required science skill of 100 to hack the very-hard locked terminal that opens the door.

The original scripts don't really take these different approaches into account, rather it only provides a solution for the following scenario: Li follows or waits until player gets close to the terminal, then player fights the enclave while Dr Li hacks the door (player may assist her and hack the door himself). Even this solution is not implemented properly due to Dr Li's low confidence, which prevents her and her team from executing their AI packages properly, as fleeing takes precedence over any other AI directive, so all the NPCs do is fleeing, no other AI is taken into account.

In order to fix this, we need to fix several scripts and AI packages through the GECK:

To enable the turret, you need to remove the "initially disabled" flag on the MQ05TaftTurretREF in the Taft Tunnels.

Now create a new message to be displayed when the Enclave wave attack begins. Call it TaftEnclaveTimer, use the following contents:

Hack the terminal to disrupt enemy wave. Otherwise %.0f sec remaining.

This message will be used by the MQ05ldEnclaveWaveSCRIPT, which includes the following fixes:

- Display a message that tells the player how the Enclave wave works (45 sec. timer or hack the terminal right away yourself

- Prevent Dr. Li and her team from running towards the terminal if they are told to wait

-Do not open the door automatically if Dr Li is told to wait. Instead, wait if the player can do it himself or if he can't, wait until he calls Dr Li (tells her to follow) so that she hacks the terminal for you, but she shouldn't do it in the middle of the firefight during the enclave wave attack.

- set Enclave wave timer to 0 if player himself hacks the terminal

The fix for this script looks like this (only the second part is changed, compare to the original to see the changes):

;... script above is not changed

if flag == 1
if timer > 0
set timer to (timer - getsecondspassed)
ShowMessage TaftEnclaveTimer timer ; displays message (see above)

else

set flag to 2 ; stop enemy respawns
MQ05TaftTurretREF.setUnconscious 0 ;support turret in the corridor

if MQ05.LiFollow==1 ; for dumb players that drag Dr Li with them
MQ05WaveDoorSwitchREF.activate MQ05LDwaveTerminalREF ; open the door

Set DoctorLiRef.WaveTrig to -1
set MQ05LD.waveFlag to 9 ; report that the fight has concluded entirely.
DoctorLiRef.scaonactor ; this is pointless, combat is not stopped.
DoctorLiRef.SetAV Confidence 0
GarzaRef.SetAV Confidence 0
AlexDargonRef.SetAV Confidence 0
( MQ05.DanGun == 0 )
DanielAgincourtRef.SetAV Confidence 0
endif
GarzaREF.scaonactor
AlexDargonREF.scaonactor
DanielAginCourtREF.scaonactor
DoctorLiRef.resetAI
GarzaREF.resetAI
AlexDargonREF.resetAI
DanielAginCourtREF.resetAI
endif
endif
endif

if MQ05LD.waveFlag >= 9 ; player hacked the terminal
;set flag to 2	; This is useless, Bethesda, as this does NOT stop the timer!
set timer to 0	; player hacks the terminal
endif
end

Changes to the MQ05LiTaftWaveTriggerScript are necessary to prevent Dr Li from attempting to hack the terminal and to open the door if the player HIMSELF HAS ALREADY DONE it in case he initially left Dr Li behind by telling her to wait:

ScriptName MQ05LiTaftWaveTriggerScript

Begin OnTriggerEnter DoctorLiRef
if  DoctorLiRef.WaveTrig == 0 && MQ05LD.waveFlag < 9
;... rest of the script is unchanged

The following AI packages must be fixed:

MQ05LiHackingDoor, MQ05DanielWaitForPlayerToExitArenaPKG, MQ05DocLiWaitForPlayerToExitArenaPKG:

Additional condition required for each of the 3 packages-> MQ05.LiFollow variable MUST be equal to 1 (MQ05.LiFollow==1), use the conditions tab to add the condition

Additional changes to DoctorLiScript script and the MQ05LiHackingDoor AI package required in case the player tells Dr Li to wait, but notices that he lacks the skill to hack the terminal to open the door when the battle is over. In this case, he runs back to Dr Li, tells her to follow, when she gets close to the terminal she hacks it, if the door is still closed:

MQ05LiHackingDoor onEnd result script:

set MQ05LD.waveFlag to 9

DoctorLiScript - add the following to the GameMode block:

if WaveTrig==1
if MQ05LD.waveFlag >= 9
MQ05WaveDoorSwitchREF.activate MQ05LDwaveTerminalREF ; open the locked door
Set DoctorLiRef.WaveTrig to -1
endif
endif

Changes to the AI packages used by the Enclave troopers spawned on the ground required to make them actually run into the room when they are spawned:

Enclave troopers spawned on the ground have the Editor ID MQ05EnclaveWaveLower. They utilize a guard AI package called MQ05EnclaveLowerToWaveArenaPKG. This package is a guard, not a travel package, seems the AI gets a little confused and is not evaluated properly. Instead, two AI packages must be used - first, a Travel package that makes the troopers run into the room, second, when they arrive at the guard marker, let them switch to the original guard package to guard the spot:

First, create a new travel package for them, call it MQ05EnclaveWaveLowerTravel:

Package type: Travel

Flags: Always Run, Weapon drawn, Enable Fallout behaviour

Condition: GetDistance MQ05ArenaMarker reference > 25 distance units

Vanilla MQ05EnclaveLowerToWaveArenaPKG guard package: uncheck "always run"

To make the troopers switch from Travel to guard package (re-evaluate AI) when they arrive at the MQ05ArenaMarker, use their MQ05EnclaveWaveFodderLowerSCRIPT, the changes are as follows:

begin gamemode
if doOnce ==0
if getdistance mq05wavearenamarker<=25
resetai
set doOnce to 1
endif
endif
end

Leave the rest of the script unchanged.

You also need to move the MQ05ArenaMarker a little, because, as mentioned above, it's positioned INSIDE a solid object and the troopers can't really reach it. Change the position of the MQ05WaveArenaMarker reference in the Taft Tunnels interior location on the X and Y axes as follows:

X axis: 13537.6963

Y axis: -16038.9746

This will allow the two troopers spawned on the ground to position themselves more or less properly, even though they will still bump into each other, cause, as I said, there's only enough place for one human being, so they constantly push each other outside the marker, lol, it looks a little weird. If you wnat to fix this, additional changes to the MQ05EnclaveLowerToWaveArenaPKG package required:

Guard Location: Change to -> "Near current location", radius 0

where "Current location" will simply be the location reached by the troopers when they use the Travel package (see above). They won't try to position themselves on the exact marker spot any more, so no more pushing each other around any longer, lol.

The Garza situation:

Disable player controls in the MQ05GarzaTriggerWallScript like this:

if ( GarzaRef.GetDead == 0 )
set MQ05.GarzaSit to 1
disableplayercontrols ;add this line
endif

To re-enable player controls again, do it in Dr Li's conversation result script:

Dr Li says "We can't go any further. We need to stop." That's part of the GREETING topic. Change the result script (Begin) of this line by adding the following code:

enableplayercontrols

Ok, that's hopefully it, I think I've fixed every single bug, glitch, exploit and error on this damn quest. Bethesda quality department be damned, what the hell are they doing? Sleeping instead of checking the games for errors? WRFan 18:25, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Fuse[]

I used the console "coc testqaitems" and took a fuse there. And now I can't finish the quest because I can't get the fuse from Dad because I already have the fuse! And I can't replace the fuses as told... Please help me.

Not sure if you play on PC, but if you do, it's possible to remove the Fuse from your inventory by a console command. Pyxxel 12:48, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

Permanent compass marker[]

After dad activated the purifier, I used the no-clip console command (on the PC, obviously) to loot Autumn's body to get is pistol and suit. After that I talked to dad, where he went through a quick dialogue. He the stood up, and collapsed on the floor again immediately. After this I not have an marker stuck on my compass just to the right of the little triangle that indicates yourself, and it won't go away. Has this happened to anyone and if so, is there any way I can fix this? Like using the console to move dad's NPC next to me and interacting with him?

When I speak to Dad in the Science Lab in Rivet City, after Tranq Lane, he just says that he needs time to speak with Madelaine and that he needs me to be patient. Nothing seems to change this, and the quest does not move on at all. This happened to anybody else?

thanks for any help or advice,

I ran far ahead of Dr. Li and the rest, and when I came back, only Li and Garza were there. Running ahead again, I came back, only to find Garza dead next to a non-hostile Tesla-armored Enclave troop. Dr. Li wouldn't move far, only going up to Garza's gibs(I smashed his corpse with a sledgehammer) I revived him via console commands, but that didn't work. I belive the problem was I ran too far ahead(up to the ladder leading out), breaking Dr. Li's script. PepterPepper 22:43, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Colonel Augustus Autumn Clone[]

You can make sure they use a clone of Colunel Autumn, Just before he is a bout to die, reverse pick pocket a grenade/mine onto him, and he will go splat all over the place. Trying to do this before he dies, only puts the grenade/mine on him as a useable item to use if you don't get caught that is.

Also leaving a mine on the floor before the scene where he starts talking, it stay there, but is deavtivated from blowing up.GodsHand 14:52, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

[Xbox 360] Attacked the Brotherhood[]

After leaving the taft tunnels I came to the citidel. I let Doctor li walk in with the other male Scientist. One I had killed earlier. (My character is evil} Once she had entered the compound I made an attempt at murdering the two brothers outside. They only went unconsious and kept the red markers up. I ran inside the citadel. The place when ape, everyone attacked me and Doctor Li was knocked out. I left again only to come back when everything calmed down. Now when I walk to the space which causes the character to freeze and listen to the people therein, Nothing Happens. I am rooted to the ground and all four of them stand around staring at me not interacting. There appears to be no limit to the time spent stuck.

I broke the game didn't I? Is there a way to get through this.

Tip for better XP from finishing this quest[]

After exiting the tunnels, Dr. Li will walk up to the Citadel entrance slowly. At this point, it is possible to fast-travel back to Megaton/Tenpenny Tower and sleep for 1 hour in your own bed, then fast-travel back to the Citadel with the well-rested bonus and thus gain extra 10% on top of the 700 XP for finishing this quest, which is a nice bonus. Dr. Li and her conpany will still be on her way walking to the Citadel entrance as you left them. (Confirmed on 2 PC games)

GAME FREEZES AFTER RECEIVING FUSES FROM DAD[]

Please help me with this if possible after getting fuses from dad when i leave rotunda game freezes at "timeclock" load screen

...Kyle?

Ghoul Mask and the Scientists[]

The article claims that wearing the Ghoul Mask will keep the Ghouls in the tunnel from attacking the scientists, but in my case (360 version) that doesn't seem to be the case. The Ghouls run right by me and attack them. Not that it's a big issue, just something that's inconsistent with what the page talks about. Can anyone else confirm? 99.231.6.47 04:36, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for catching the error. When you see something like that, just go ahead and make the correcting edit yourself. That's how a wiki works! Cheers.--Gothemasticator 04:55, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Enroute to Rivet City, dad enters Access hall (near Irradiated metro) and stands there?[]

I'm experiencing an unusual issue here. I chose to follow dad to Rivet city at the beginning of this quest. We're about half way to Rivet City now, although, after encountering some super mutants, he, for some reason, entered the Access Hall, and is now standing there. I haven't given much time for the AI to kick back in again, although this seems like a bug. I'm running PC with the latest patch.

Ah, nevermind, I talked to him, exited the conversation, then he went for the exit. Upon entering the exit, he was not outside, and the marker was telling me to go back inside. I went through that loop several times, then realized dad was deeper into this Access Hall. He was continuing out.. Tgp1994 02:36, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

removed from bugs[]

  • If you have this quest, but are not doing it (it is in your quest inventory), Three Dog will remark on GNR that the Purifier is active and the caravans are coming, even though Project Purity is without power or a G.E.C.K.

I removed this from bugs because its Broken Steel realated not Waters og Life. This is brought on by having broken steel instaled, you do not have to be doing The Waters of Life. I know this to be true because this happened to me on my first visit to Megaton straight out of Vault 101.

Ummmm... Peace- JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:27, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

none of the characters will follow me they stand there, and dr. li never mentions anything about the heart condition even though i've secured the path all the way to the citadel

Alternate endings?[]

Is there a way to finish this without James dying?84.252.253.135 15:46, July 23, 2010 (UTC)george

Bug with... em... everybody[]

I got a problem, when Dr. Li ak you about garza's situation, instead of that, she just stays there, then i found that Daniel and the other doctor were at the beginning of the tunnel, and with the enclave's shield, i killed them both via console, but nothing change, so i killed garza via console, but Madison just stays in the same place Ladies and gentlemen, please die 00:58, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

Teleporting Charon?[]

Upon entering the Taft Tunnel, I immediately tell Dr. Li to wait. After walking a few feet the Garza scene plays out and at the end, I notice Charon has mysteriously joined the queue. Talking to him yields the normal conversation after being ordered to wait. Anybody else see anything similar? I also want to note that contrary to what the main page says, I cleared out the ghouls behind the Hard locked door (including the always annoying Reavers) and was still rushed by a whole mob of ghouls when I opened the door leading to the checkpoint. The Brotherhood of Steel members who were present while I was clearing the way had also all been murdered. I'm playing on Very Hard so I expect that's why they died.Nyuzu 12:33, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

Dad won't enter project purity[]

i've gone in., i've killed everything on every level i've even gone throug each part of the memorial using the kill all console code to make sure and still i don't get the option to tell him its bloody safe.

i'm using the pc version updated with the latest patches and blah.

What does he say when you talk to him? Also try going into the rotunda and open up the console again, and type:

prid 19d09
moveto player
--Kris User Hola 17:09, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

he asks me if the place is safe. and then i only get two replys both of which are basically no.

additionally neither prid nor move to player work in any combo to make anything happen i just get the lovely little message saying compiled scripts and blah blah not run blah message. sorry for being awkward dude

Looks like there was a typo in my post; I doubled the last digit of the refID. If it still doesn't work, find a dead super mutant, open the console, click it, and type:

resurrect
kill
Exit the console and wait about 15 seconds, then if you don't get a quest update, repeat the process until you do. --Kris User Hola 17:58, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

I'm having this same issue on the PS3 version...can anyone help?

Kris thankyou! I was stuck on this until I found your resurrect trick! This really should go in to the page its self 80.229.160.156 21:06, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

KILL PROJECT PURITY MEMBERS! SO MUCH FUN[]

Alright so this is an idea I had while doing this quest that has resulted in many laughs and quality entertainment. You don't actually kill them all, as your dad and Dr. Li will just be knocked unconscious; but the rest of them totally won't make it out alive.

  • Obviously, it is a good idea to save your game BEFORE you do any of this, as you may loose some if your inventory as well as do irreparable damage.

The fun can being after you clear the Jefferson Memorial of Super Mutants, but before you tell your dad its safe to go inside. Before doing so, gather up all the frag, bottlecap, and plasma mines (if you have any); the more mines the better (I had 50 frag mines & 5 bottlecap mines). Walk up to the door leading into the Jefferson Memorial building and stack ALL of those mines directly in front of the door. Just keep stacking them on top of one another and as close to the door as possible. After all of your mines are well placed (you might as well use every single one you have), tell your Dad its safe to enter and find a good place to watch the action!

  • Its best to wait to tell your Dad its safe until all or most of the members of PP are relatively in the same place; if one of them gets to the door before the rest, it won't be as funny. Also, your Dad and Dr. Li WILL NOT set off the mines; thats why they must all approach the door at the same time.
  • THE BEST WAY TO DO IT THOUGH, is to equip the Fat Man and fire it at the door right before the mountain of mines blows up. The resulting blast will send people exponentially farther than with just the mines; easily clearing 200 yards vertically and sending dear old Dad over half way out into the Potomac River.

Nobody's Moving[]

All five of the NPCs are all in the Jefferson Memorial, in front of the exit. When I talk to Dad, he says that we'll "asses the situation in the control room". But, they are all just standing there, not moving. I tried talking to Daniel and Alex, but nothing happened. I went into the rotunda and tried activating a few machines, but nothing. What do I do?

Getting fuses from your dad.[]

I killed all the Super Mutants and the quest tells me to go get the fuses from dad, but when I get to the rotunda, the door to the lab part is locked and it says I need a key. What do I do, I can't finish the quest because of this. I'm playing on 360 with the latest patch.

Dogmeat spawn in Garza situation error[]

Okay, when Dr. Li said Garza needed medical attention, Dogmeat spawned next to me even though he is supposed to be at my Megaton house. I looked at the bugs section and saw this, so I knew it was not really a big deal. HOWEVER, when I spoke to dogmeat, I chose the option for him to follow me, but then after he barked, another dialouge choice came up saying "I have to go now." That was the only dialouge choice on screen, so I had to choose it. When I did, Dogmeat walked away from me, and when I attempted to speak with him, it would not let me. He did not stay with me, he simply walked out the door and off on his merry way. I tried many times to reload to a save where he was not there when Garza spoke up, but he kept spawning after that scene and I got the same result many times. Did I just fire my dog??? Can I get him back or is he gone for good? 70.234.98.37 20:33, February 3, 2011 (UTC)GaaraxShukakuIScute70.234.98.37 20:33, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Getting on the Catwalks[]

New poster, so bare with me.

After spending a fair amount of time trying to stack barrels to reach the loot on the catwalks from the second group of Enclave soldiers in the Taft Tunnel, I was getting pretty frustrated.

I then decided to go back to the first set of catwalks since that was much easier to reach from the pipes. If you get on the first set you can reach a door (on the same wall as the entrance to the area) that lets you walk over to the second catwalks with ease. The whole frustrating barrel stacking can be avoided completely.

I just wanted to suggest that the page be updated to state that info. I would have done it myself, but for fear of messing anything up, decided to post the info here.

Thanks! - da36chamberz

Problem completing quest. Project Purity members died.[]

I am having trouble completing the quest. I got Doctor Li to the Brotherhood of Steel HQ but the other 3 members died from radiation ( I think ) in the tunnels. I never had the heart problem come up and now Li wont talk to anyone in the HQ and I dont have ANY recent saves in the tunnels. Ideas of how to reset via console ( I"m Playing on PC) or other ways around it? Thanks.

every time i use the intercom during the mainframe or any other intercom in the waters of life quest it bugs then crashes to my desktop ;( i totally need help with this

Crashing with intercom[]

Every time I use the intercom or any other ones in project purity the game crashes to my desktop. I have looked all over Fallout 3 forums and i can't find anyone whom had this problem. I have all the latest patches and all dlc's. Please help me with this.

The scene does not start[]

I have this problem with the water of life. When I came back to the Rotunda. I am suppose to watch the scene that my dad faces the Enclave and die. but nothing happens there. I see my dad and a doctor with two enclave soldiers but no conversation or anything. I also see Doctor Li outside of the glass watching. It is frustrating. Did I miss anything that has to trigger it?

- I'm having this problem as well, there are two autumns and from what i can tell it's because i obtained the G.E.C.K , and therefore destroyed the enclave before reaching vault 112. is there a command similar to the diego marriage bug where i can force the conversation to start?177.242.133.81 10:04, October 8, 2014 (UTC)

Looting Autumn[]

Long story short, how can it be done at this point (mostly for those lacking console or Broken Steel)? My first thought is to try placing mines in the area at the last possible second before the cutscene, but even if they go off during the cutscene I think the door would stop him.

Garza+Doctor Li stuck at Taft tunnel entrence[]

I got the bug where Garza and Doctor Li sit at the entrenct to the Taft tunnels.. I've cleared the way, dragged her to the Exit citadel, disabled/enabled her, killed, toggleAI'd, and moveto player'd her... I've run out of options, nothing is working. When I moved her to the Citadel, she immediately ran back to the Taft entrance. Dialogue does nothing.

On the wikia page, this bug has already been encountered:

"Sometimes, Dr. Li will stay near the entrance to the Taft tunnels and refuse to progress to the Citadel. This can be remedied by using the console to disable then enable Doctor Li. (Disabling / enabling may not help if all companions but Garza are alive. Disallowing the game to progress at all.)"

I do not see a fix anywhere, anyone know how to fix? I don't have any saves near that, just after the bug happened... My last save is around 7 hours game time, i'm on my 31st, so retrying is out of the question unless I could somehow reset the quest or something.

"To Wing?"[]

In the Notes section, towards the end, there's this phrase "If you wing Garza"... what exactly does that mean? Sounds like a slang because none of the dictionary meanings for "wing" as a verb seems to make sense. I'm assuming the original writer meant "if you leave Garza behind"? 124.82.20.186 06:16, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

Super Mutant blocking path[]

So while escorting Dr. Li to the evacuation she disappears into the secret tunnel. I cannot follow because a mutant is dead on top of the entrance. I cannot restart because I killed the mutants way before this part of the mission. Any suggestions?

Some objects can be moved around, by holding a key on the keyboard. Maybe you can move the super mutant's body around? Or, well, you can just destroy the body into pieces, by attacking it. ☢ Energy X ☣ 10:58, May 13, 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your response! But I am playing it on the PS3. I have tried mutilating the body but it still is blocking the way. :(
