maybe somehow roll this into the information?[]

passing by this mapmarker provides a shortcut through a mountain pass to nipton which is also quite safe compared to other methods of getting to nipton early on

You do have to deal with Super Mutants and Centaurs though using that route. --ParallaxFallout 11:33, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

Question 1[]

How long does it take the Prospectors to come here?Dmk961 20:16, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

Is This a Bug?[]

So, i just entered the Den just to see what was in it before i headed over to the Test site to clear out the Ghouls. Service rifle in hand i put in some armor piercing bullets and started shooting, Then my game froze.

figured id post this here before posting it as a game bug, just to make sure it is a bug and not just my Xbox messing up. 24.3.121.201 20:07, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

The game couldn't handle the idea of you wasting armor piercing rounds on feral ghouls. --Cartman! 16:11, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

Super Mutants[]

Could someone explain why they removed the bit I added about Super Mutants? It's pretty relevant to the article, especially since low level players could easily wonder as far as the Prospector's Den. Also, if you can handle them, it's a good way to get miniguns and LMGs early in the game. 86.42.220.26 13:30, December 19, 2010 (UTC)

There's a closer landmark to include the info on.

Player houseing[]

After clearing out the gang memebrs, once the prospecters move, could the den be acceptable player housing? Seems good since as the mutants at jack rabbit springs don't wander into the area, not sure about the centaurs though. The containers are most likely safe for storage (could one confirm this?)and the merchant out side could be bought from or sold to. A word of warning, most NPC's steal food, water, drinks, etc. etc. so one should watch out for that.--24.7.128.85 03:54, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

I'm planning on using this as a home. Do the prospectors respawn after killing them? The containers are probably safe, since I just throw stuff in any container at my houses.--TheReaver74 23:59, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

After clearing the gang members out this is a great option for early player housing. The large empty chest in the first room underneath the sign labled "STORAGE" is safe for storing items as are the wardrobes in that same room. The presence of the merchant, reloading bench, nearby campfire, and ease to get to early in the game make it an ideal lowbie safehouse.

Enemies[]

I had a completely different experience as listed under the Enemies section. I found (level 18 on Playstation 3Playstation 3Playstation 3):

  • 2 Jackal gang members outside
  • 3 Jackal gang members inside cave, outside building
  • 3 Jackal gang members inside building inside cave

I saw no Super mutant masters or Evolved centaur anywhere near this location. EganioTalk 07:28, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

I had a very similar experience there myself. I did notice, however, that the Evolved centars are over the hills oppisite the enterance to the Den's enterance. --SoySauceSamurai 08:31, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Safe Storage[]

In the first room, next to the jukebox is an Enclave crate. Above this crate on the wall is a sign with the words "storage area" with an arrow pointing down at this particular crate.

If none of the other containers in this area are not safe, that one probably is. I'm testing that out now. --- TandyBomb 18:06, August 26, 2011 (UTC)

Prospectors. The only fully operational Prospectors in the Mojave.[]

Once the Jackal gang members have been cleared out of Prospectors Den Prospectors will move in. After killing the Jackals, providing you do not stay at the Den, all seven Prospectors will spawn together at the Den three and a half days later.

Two NCR prospectors who never sleep and never leave the den. NCR prospectors were put in to ensure Prospectors were safe from Jackal raiders. No NCR Prospectors were found dead during the Couriers first visit to the den.

One Prospector merchant who never sleeps and never leaves the Den will sell items at inner Den entrance.

A maximum of four exploring Prospectors inhabit the Den contrary to the numbers initially found dead at the beginning. If all four are alive they can all be found sleeping in the Den at night. They walk three set routes, leaving the Den at between 7am and 11am and walk outbound for 4 hours before returning along the same route, 4 hours, arriving back at the fire location between 5pm and 8 pm. where they will either stand sit, rest against a rock or walk about, for around 1 hour before entering the Den. They will then sit and eat at any of the three red stools or table, providing their own mugs and plates, before sleeping in any of the beds.

Since there can be four to walk only three routes occasionally one route, the west route, will have two Prospectors on it spaced around 3 hours apart.

They are easily killed by nearby ,Super Mutants,Evolved Centaurs, and further out by Ghouls, Jackal gang members and Powder gangers since their patrol routes pass near to these enemies. If you are an enemy of the Legion then the Assassins can spawn either side of the Den and all four Propsectors can quickly get killed.

If you kill all four (no loss of Karma)when gathered outside round the fire site in the evening they will all re-spawn and appear by the fire site around 6pm on the Saturday week after being killed.

Individual prospetors killed will respawn mostly on Saturday after 2pm on the lone grave on top the mound at Wolfhorn Ranch where they will sit against the head stone for up to 2 game hours, looking west and drinking Nuka Cola before setting off for the Den. A journey of over 4 game hours. If you walk near them you will have to defeat SuperMutants and Evolved Centaurs when passing the radiated drums.Rad 4-5. There is a camp fire and two makeshift sleeping mats Rad 1 and 2 just south of the radiated drums and ocassionally two Den Prospectors late from the Wolfhorn grave can be found sleeping on the mats. Around 8am they will awake and continue on their normal routes.

When the entire Den re-equips at regular intervals ( time unknown) all three resident NCR Prospectors change clothes, equipment and/or gender.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 19:16, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

Respawned crates[]

Frequency: Unknown.

The 1st aid box definitely respawned. I definitely remember clearing it twice.

The footlockers in the 2nd room definitely respawned but unknown in frequency. It's even possible that each locker has its own freq date, because the two times I clear different boxes.

The dresser in 1st room definitely respawned but I am not sure if there's just one do, or if each has its own freq length. Havent found the storage box respawned yet, possible that it's clean.Laclongquan (talk) 18:57, April 24, 2013 (UTC)

  • I left FO3 and went back to NV to an earlier save. At midnight on Tuesday killed two Evolved Centaurs outside the door, murdered all 4 prospectors and 3 NCR Prospectors and emptied out the Dresser ,Cabinet, 8 Footlockers and the First Aid Box.

By Saturday as usual the Den was restocked with all 7 Prospectors. No other items had appeared. By Thursday the 2 Evolved Centaurs had returned along with a newly restocked medical box, 2 foot lockers and the Dresser all with different items than previously stocked including a Bobby Pin.

This makes sense if you have a working Prospectors den. It would be restocked at regular intervals, 9 days? to help support the Prospectors.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 09:28, April 25, 2013 (UTC)
