it looks like the plasma caster in New Vegas, should that be noted?

No, because New Vegas came out after Fallout...so it's vice versa.

Why is it called a rifle?

I never got a chance to play the original Fallout or Fallout 2, but since it is the the same as the Plasma Caster from Fallout: New Vegas, it doesn't really have the characteristics of a rifle...

You're right, it's just as bulky in Fallout 2 as well. It resembles a "big gun" more than a rifle. But that's just what it's called. I guess that's why they changed the name in FONV.--77.103.237.230 06:39, January 8, 2013 (UTC)
