Talk:Perception

From The Vault

There are a few places in Fallout 3 where having a higher Perception will trigger the ability to notice certain things upon entering a room or building. Occasionally this can lead to useful discoveries.

Does anyone have any examples of these kind of situations? So far, I only know of the one regarding the Anchorage War Memorial loot—Preceding unsigned comment added by PwnzerfaustMonk (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I think your perception influences what you notice about the Wests' corpses in Blood Ties. With high perception you get something like "it looks like somebody's been gnawing on the bones", with low PE just "they're dead". Not exact quotes of couse, just to illustrate the point. -- Porter21 (talk) 09:46, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
I think medicine is what determines if you see the bite marks on those corpses or not. I thought perception was only good for getting things to show on your radar. Dcruze 09:53, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
You are right, Medicine is the determining factor (0-29 gives no clues, 30-49 gives 1 clue, 50-69 gives 2 clues, 71-89 gives 3 clues, 90+ gives all 4 clues). No idea then, usually don't play chars with high Perception. -- Porter21 (talk) 10:05, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Along with Charisma and (debatably) Intelligence, Perception is one of the pointless SPECIALs. The only good it does is increase the linked skills' values. The radar detection thing is pretty useless really, and even if you do find it useful, you can just get dogmeat as a follower (who has a high perception) and he will detect- this renders your perception useless. Still it accesses some good perks such as Sniper and Better Criticals.81.156.11.193 01:14, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I highly disagree! I find the detection very useful as I prefer to stealthly snipe my enemies from a distance so I can get the sneak bonus and so I can get multiple shots off before they get shoot at me/hit me if the first shot doesn't kill them. I don't use Dogmeat because he always seems to die on me within the 3 fights I get into, and because I don't want him to ruin my stealth. And don't mention "Puppies!". Even though I have Broken Steel, it's not availible untill level 24 (I think). These conditions factor into me needing that detection range and I love it.
PS: Don't push your opinion into others as if it were fact. I find it highly rude, arrogent, and insensitive. Sometimes I just don't understand other people… --TheREALBloodscar 10:12, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] hmm

Not sure I like how the linked headers look. You never see anything like that on Wikipedia, and this Wikia is supposed to follow their manual of style. Dcruze 09:53, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, they're not really necessary now that we have the game icons. Ausir 10:12, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] View Distance

"Be aware that a high Perception with a low view distance may be disadvantageous, as you will "sense" your enemies but not know where they are."

What's means "low view distance"? Isnt the range of view the same for all Players? --VikingII 12:22, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

They mean like indoors with walls in the way, low light areas, etc. Where something is hindering your view as a player, not as a character.

In a contrast to that, what about how far your perception detects (1=x meters, 10=y meters)?87.60.42.74 14:58, September 22, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Compass is ass backwards.

Just went looking for Dogmeat. Set a marker at where Scrapyard would be. Ended up at some Enclave training place with an Enclave Research Computer sitting outside. As it turns out, my compass led me too far, and it seemed to show me that Scrapyard was in the dead center of the outdoor research area. Upon facing the correct direction to Scrapyard (North/northeast), my compass's Marker (which was set in the North/northeast) was completely ass backwards, and pointing me South/Southwest.

You mean back-asswards? Lol --TheREALBloodscar 10:01, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Can You use Mentats to......

temporarily boost your perception to get a perk? is it possible? or does the perk only go from the base special, and not the current?

You cannot; perks only take into account your non-boosted stats(excluding bobbleheads and items that mimic bobbleheads such
as the lucky eight ball). Keemonto 13:40, September 21, 2009 (UTC)
