Dead Money

o Old World as in the "flag of the old world upon his back" that's mentioned in dead money then-ie Ulysses? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.153.204.156 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I reckon they won't pull Ulysses out until DLC number 5, this one probably has something to do with the Big Empty or maybe doing an Operation Anchorage style VR simulator. Maybe a simulation in the resource wars or something whilst the world was crumbling. --User:CiaoGamer 08:29, January 10, 2011 (UTC)
I would expect there to be only four DLC for FNV, each raising the level cap by 5 (level 50 total) in order to add incentive to buy and play the DLC. Given that this would likely be the last of the DLC, I hope that it is climactically exiting, like ending with a one-on-one, melee weapon to flag pole, fight with Ulysses on top of a small mesa as the winds and sand from "The Divide" howl in the background. --User:DurableTomb
I was thinking 4 DLC to increase the level cap by five and a fifth, as of yet unannounced, one that has both Ulysses and the capability to play post endgame. Isn't there there 5 unused snow globe slots so there would be 5 DLC?--Ciao Gamer 08:31, January 10, 2011 (UTC)
Actually, while your snowglobe slot theory is just conjecture, it does supplement known information. For example, one DLC could
I don't think so, because you can gain the Hoover Dam Snowglobe without siding with the NCR and the Test Site and The Strip Snowglobes without siding with Mr. House. I'm sure it's possible though. How to add 7 DLC with 5 snowglobe slots is a more interesting question to me. Serose8 19:20, February 19, 2011 (UTC)
The "Divide" might also be a mountain range e.g. The Continental Divide, not just a canyon. Even though the Grand Canyon is more likely due to the location. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.165.25.149 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

It's sorts been confirmed that there are going to be four dlc's, but it isn't out of the question that there could be more. Also there is going to be a Ulysses in Lonesome Road who is not to be confused with the bat-shit crazy AI Odysseus. It has also been confirmed that each dlc will raise the level cap by five but Old World Blues will allow you to stop at at least 30.

I think the Big Empty is a reference to The Dark Tower III: The Wastelands. In the book, The Big Empty is in Missouri. So I think the Big empty is in Missouri. --awhiteguywithablackguy--

Actually The Big Empty is a play on the Abbreviation for Mountain....MT when you say it it sounds like MT and we know that it takes place nestled in a mountain range so its most likely going to be in a mountain range north of NV Plus they even stated in was in NV So it may not be in the same Area but its definitely in Nevada --Sinisterair--

MT is also Montana, isn't it?

As the article is protected and only admins can edit it, I guess suggestions for additions to the page need to be made on the talk page. We can say quite a bit more about this page, as since Elijah talking about the Big Empty triggers the Things to Come! challenge, it looks like Old World Blues takes place in the Big Empty. In that same dialogue option which triggers the challenge, Elijah talks about all the things that he found at the Big Empty, including Holograms, explosive collars, Holorifles, Saturnite alloy, hibernation chambers, Securitrons and the suits worn by the Ghost people. --Flower of Pock-Lips 17:49, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

technology

old world blues is said to be in the big empty a supposed treasure trove of old world technology that obviasly means good weapons and armour and we can expect robots and such im just saying i would like to see some of the old fallout tech to return like the original Gatling lazer and some new tech definitely but one thing i really want to see is a bait bomb of some sort like you throw it then all the animals or mutants in the area run for it then releases a mininuke or rad bomb of some sort it is like mothership zeta in a way because nobody had a real idea of how powerful the tech would be —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.126.58.122 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Regarding the Gatling Laser, I'm not one to use Engergy Weapons, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure its still in the game? The bait bomb idea is possible, but I doubt it would be a place like the Big Empty. The Rad Bomb idea- nukes? Your entire post is pretty unclear to be honest, and I'm not sure where you're trying to get at. 99.228.7.240 17:37, March 12, 2011 (UTC)

One thing that I have noticed in Dead Money and Honest Hearts is that there are 2-3 new guns, while the remaining 5-6 weapons are melee and unarmed. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people, but really, the designers need to work on pleasing those who are interested in other weapons by simply balancing it out. Now in OWB, I imagine that there will be energy weapons, though I'm not entirely sure. Well, if my character has guns skills and not energy weapons skills, this DLC would most likely be a waste of time and money, like Honest Hearts was. Vault 77 Dweller 22:56, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Old World Blues Footage

It looks like a crashed satellite is projecting an image of ODYSSEUS onto a drive-in theater screen, and you'll fight some Mister Gutsy with a possibly a new weapon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQekFkgpFJs

From what I can see the projected image is coming from a sattelite at what looks like the drive in theatre at nipton. This is most likely the quest start location then. I also saw some sort of energy melee weapon. Should be an interesting DLC. 86.143.74.194 08:53, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

There are what appear to be tribals of some sort in the footage. Could these be the Ciphers attempting to acquire the great tech within the Big Empty? Maybe they are mutated ex-scientists that were in the hibernation chambers that Elijah mentioned.

Nevermind they're just crazy people99.246.80.100 00:04, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

Nice, good job HawK, and Archon also of course ;). Itachou [~talk~] 23:34, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

Funny.

It would be hilarious if this was actually located within the Mojave, literally in the New Vegas map area, and you just opened up a pathway to get there. Theres lots of unused room and inaccessible areas so it could be. But that'd be a major rip off. 68.147.40.224 21:26, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, wasn't logged in. Power Bonkers 21:28, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Meh. The satellite that crash lands apparently and begins the questline appears to be found at a drive in cinema somewhere in the Mojave, but I guess the actual questline will take place in its own worldspace-despite some of the shots fromthe video appearing to be in locations similar to the vanilla game. I doubt they would be pulling a Broken steel on us.

Maybe it will take play in area 51? because they mention about technology and old world misery

Old World Misery sounds more like Detroit... --User:Awhiteguywithablackguy

I personally think that it takes place in Montana, as Chris Avellone's Twitter location said Big MT for a while, and seeing as MT is Montana's Abbreviation, I'd not think it to be too far of a stretch. -Anonymous

no, it is not in montana, read Big MT out loud.--90.227.58.236 15:36, June 10, 2011 (UTC)--

I know. I think it's a play on words. -Anonymous

you know what i noticed this is the easiest dlc to get to granted i dont know how far away the place for lonesome roads is but this location is next to a place you actually have to go nipton originally i actually searched for the drive in in the lake beds because at first i thought it was next to the roadstop not the town --Corporal grif 18:45, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

I wikipedia'd Big Mountain, the closest one to Nevada would have to be Big Mountain, California. Note that Big Mountain in California is unincorporated (read: undeveloped) in this timeline. Maybe the Big Empty is in California? (Other Big Mountain spots are in: Arizona (Inspiration for Black Mesa from Half-life. It's also called Black Mesa), Utah (Big Mountain Pass), Alaska (It's an Air Force Base), Pennysylvania, Oklahoma and Montana (Ski Lodge) - 16807 COmpunctious Transgression

Release Date

Since its said to be released the 14th of June by Gamergaia, should I change the page's release date to reflect this? Nashorn1127 23:34, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

No, I asked Matt "Gstaff" who deals with most of the DLC releases and such, and he said that release dates haven't been announced yet, and therefore you should not change the dates until it has been announced on Bethesda's Blog, which is where he said it would be seen first. --Geerardr 00:46, June 1, 2011 (UTC)
It also says it's free on Gamergaia...Jdw 20:08, June 1, 2011 (UTC)
Hahaha, nice Jdw --Geerardr 22:01, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

I think it's safe to say that if the DLC does release this month we can expect it on either the 14th, 21st or 28th for the 360 at least and since it is meant to be simultaneous on PS3 PC and 360 it should be for them all. Unless of course they change it to July in which I will be a very sad fire gecko... I don't know how to sign since I don't have an account and I am new to this stuff. JoeFallout 05:26 June 08 2011 (UTC) lol

Something i can give to Fallout 3 that i cannot give to FNV. With Fallout 3 when they released a DLC you knew the exact date it would release a month before hand. FNV just leaves you to guess.

The "greater threat"

I think that the greater threat the courier is said to be able to join forces with his captors to defeat might be ODYSSEUS. Any other theories on who it might be?

That is exactly what i was thinking. Also, just an observation, the concept art for ODYSSEUS shows a Think Tank with a rod coming out of the top, so maybe he's like a robobrain and uses a brain as a data store.

It makes sense. ODYSSEUS can supposedly feel emotions and is schizophrenic, which seems to only come from human brains, not an actual computer AI.

Big Empty

Probably a coincidence, but should it be noted that Big Empty is also a song from Stone Temple Pilots? GUT 22:34, June 4, 2011 (UTC)GUT

This kind of question usually piques my curiosity. OK, According to Wikipedia (TM), Van Buren was cancelled in 2007. Van Buren had a version of the Big Empty (the Fallout universe location, not the song) in it. Meanwhile, Fallout 2 was released in '98, and Fallout in '97. Big Empty (the STP album it was on, to be more precise) was released in 1994.

Now, I can't say for sure, of course. If it were me releasing them, I certainly wouldn't be above naming a DLC "Burden in My Hand," for example, which would be a cool name but similarly anachronistic (Soundgarden song from 1996), but it's not something I'd likely do, as 1996 was over a decade and a half ago. 70.100.80.6 23:52, June 6, 2011 (UTC)

I just skimmed the second video on the page but I didnt see anything about OWB on it, and even if it does have info does it belong on this page? Seems like alot of non fallout info for being on a site based on fallout. --Bottrot 23:17, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

I doubt it's being released this week, they're probably going on the rumored then shot down date of the 14th* that everyone else still hasn't found out is fake. Konork 05:48, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

It's not coming out on the 14th. Jason Bergman, the senior producer on New Vegas, had repeatedly stated that it isn't coming out on the 14th, to the point where he threatened to throw gecko droppings at anyone who asked again. And if you still think there's a possibility of it coming out on the 14th, and that I'm just going on rumors, just look at this post here. For future references, only listen to dates you see on the Bethesda Blog. Nothing on other forums, nothing on even the official forums, JUST the blog. If you happen to find a date somewhere else, check the blog. If the blog says nothing, assume the date is false. Konork 07:12, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I figured as much but it wouldn't be the first time a member of a games dev team lied, that's all but I'm totally with you Konork. It's just so many people spring up BS, about release dates these days that you kind of see it everywhere. Even though I did highly doubt it would be out, I was just saying that everyone could stop hoping for it to come out on the 14th, after it didn't get released however, I did hear from another "Mostly Unreliable" source that it was coming out this week at some point. But "Dr. Joe predicts a small negotiation of bullshit on the internet" Also if it is gonna be out on say the 21st we will hear about it soon... If they pull a 28th of the month on us I swear the Wrath of Caeser's hand shalt not heed thy mercy Bethesda! Since technically not breaking their promise of 1 DLC but pushing it. FalloutJoe 09:29, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

So no old world blues....I'm sad.... --Brengarrett 18:10, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

"..Wrath of Caeser's hand shalt not heed thy mercy Bethesda!" That does not even make sense. You could say The Wrath of Caesar's hand shall not heed thy calls for mercy Bethesda! Boo and hiss on lack of info on true release date! Shame on you Bethesda. And shame on us - LOL.

It does make sense... But I don't wanna turn this into an english lesson... Caeser's hand not heeding thy mercy meaning not stopping any punishment... though your sentence makes for better english. It still makes sense. Like saying Give us DLC Bethesda... When Give us some DLC is better. Did someone edit my post as well? FalloutJoe 05:07, June 16, 2011 (UTC)

We should be hearing news of the release date within the next few days (possibly today), unless they've decided to back up the release date in to July, which I doubt. 2-ish weeks notice seems the norm, so the announcement may be today for the 30th. Just takin' a guess. --Geerardr 02:49, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

well i think its coming out on the 21st because lets face it fallout isnt very popular compared to other games even though it should be so if they do a 28th release date than they could lose some buyers plus lonesome roads is scheduled to come out in july so if the dlc are at least 1 month apart that would mean that its coming out soon either a trailer today or tomorrow and besides think about it they already did the qore 36 thing so thats the anouncement for it so when did that come out than add two weeks--Corporal grif 18:56, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

Qore isn't the official announcement of anything datewise, and there's no way they'd release the date/trailer(trailer could come today/tomorrow for a later release date) 3 days before the release, that's not enough publicity time, it'll probably be anytime after the 24th. --Geerardr 13:50, June 18, 2011 (UTC)

Trait Respec

I wonder if wild wasteland will be allowed to be changed-removed, since it will most likely change a lot of things of the enviroment, and not just the character. It may even make possible to aquire the alien blaster AND the Ycs perhaps?

In my opinon i find it hard to see the option to change/remove traits, just because i could see alot of glitches and enviromental game fixes to allow that option. Which would be alot of work to get rid/change 1 or two traits I do however think that it could be possible to reset the players perks and/or stats/specials. On how thats done exactly im still pondering, could it be a quest series or just talk to an npc after a quests series or just simply talk to an certain npc?

Seeing as there was some talk in that vid that you have your brain stolen in this dlc, the way in which you get it back/dont get it back might serve as a way to alter traits. For example, your brain gets "damaged" during the procedure thus severing the oportunity for learning/future improvement effectively lowering the level cap and/or changing traits.

Also, remember how Christine Royce was experimented on to the point of only being able to read but still do maths? The same scenario could possibly be used to change the courier's traits.

I agree with it could be buggy, but couldn't they simply remove all of the items from Wild Wasteland if you remove the Trait? Then again I'd love to be able to get the Alien Blaster and the YCS/186 Gauss Rifle :P AR700SAW 17:09, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

I did a quick check to see what happens, the first save corrupted due to who knows what, the second worked fine. As a note I played with Wild Wasteland then removed it at the end of Old World Blues. I first went to the Magnetohydraulics Complex to see that the walking eyes were gone. Then I returned to the Mojave and checked the mercenary camp to find it empty, but the alien ship was still on the cliff. I also checked the Indiana Jones spot near Goodsprings and the fridge was gone. So it seems Wild Wasteland events disappear and anything that normally happens there doesn't occur. If you really care to know how it works you could try playing without Wild Wasteland then adding it or leaving the aliens alive then removing it.67.249.127.45 04:51, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

I did check the space ship and I guess its confirmed that id disappears. However, I checked for the Holy Frag Grenades after switching to the wild wasteland perk in the dlc and they were there. Is it possible that if you havent been to the spots where the wild wasteland events occur, they will happen when you switch. But, in the situation of the alien ship, if you have already recieved the ycs/186, those wild wasteland events will not occur. Some one confirm. So space ship, not there. Holy Frag Grenades, there. --68.231.69.240 11:18, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

We can confirm that the space ship was not there, neither was The One, but we found the body in the fridge, the holey grenades, Johnny 5 aces, the graffiti at Cottonwood, the Gang of old ladies at Cerulean Robotics, Owen and Beru and the Rodents of unusual size.DarthOrc 05:55, July 23, 2011 (UTC)DarthOrc

June 28th

I changed it to June 28th earlier today and saw that it has been changed back to June 2011 when it has to be June 28th since there is no other possible date. XBL marketplace updates Tuesdays, games are released on Tuesdays as well and with Bethesda/Obsidian releasing their content at once it will have to be a Tuesday. It is not possible to be the 21st since, at this time, it is the 20th and there will be an update and a trailer prior to the release of Old World Blues. I think it should be changed back to June 28th since it will be that, there is no other date unless it is moved to July.

There are many possible dates, June is not a mandate from heaven. If it is coming out next week, we will know very soon, otherwise it has been pushed back. Be patient my son. BILLYOCEAN 23:47, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
I'm the one who reverted your edits, because of the exact reason at the end of your post, there. It could be pushed back, and therefor shouldn't be added to the page until officially announced (probably tomorrow, or the next day based on other DLCs). When the announcement happens, you, I, or whoever finds out first will change it. Patience until then, sir. --Geerardr 23:50, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Nothing is announced, there has been no release date yet, and the DLC is not out for PS3, considering that's the console I play NV on... This was deemed incorrect long ago. --Geerardr 02:53, June 21, 2011 (UTC)
It's still the 20th in the US, so don't be too quick to claim it false TD5160 04:07, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

I understand that everyone and myself wants this expansion come out, but.....i've noticed alot of people think the game is very glitchy. It still has some major bugs but over all imo things are better than they were release date. My point being, they should take as much time as they need to to do this expansion right. I'm willing to wait longer if that means the expansion is done well w/o any major glitches. My advice to everyone who's on the edge of their seat waiting, just be patient i'm sure it will be better than what we all think. Just think a expansion w/o glitches that would be a first. Eckrack 07:55, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

i would say it is safe to say that it will be released next week on the 28th since they already said that it be out in June and that is the final Tuesday in June and i dont think that they will pushes it back since there is no reason to since PSN is back up and running BigDogW 22:13, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

What in the world would the PSN have to do with a release date? Meanwhile at Bethesda, "Hey guys, I feel like we forgot something we were supposed to do." My money is on a July release. Rickthetrick 23:41, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

In case you didn't psn had been offline for the release of Honest Hearts so it was speculated that Bethsoft might push back OWB on all systems if PSN was still down for june. They still have one more week in June and i would say since they said it was coming in June and Lone Road is coming in July they wont push it back BigDogW 10:23, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

Release

Bethesda has finally announced the release date for the next New Vegas DLC, Old World Blues, though it's not coming anytime soon, seeing release on July 19th.

We’ve received plenty of inquiries asking when we’ll be releasing Fallout: New Vegas’s third DLC, Old World Blues. Today I can confirm the content will release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on Tuesday, July 19th.

Prior to release, we will release a new title update for New Vegas. Along with adding support for Old World Blues, the update will bring improvements to performance and stability in major areas.

continue?

What if, they make separate DLCs for each faction, continuing after the game I mean. Then people could down load The Independent Ending DLC and continue or The NCR Ending, just a thought...--OmnipotentPotato 22:14, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

It has already been confirmed that there will not be a DLC that extends the game past the ending. I'm assuming it's because Bethesda figures that they'd have to change the wasteland significantly for each ending, and add a bunch of additional missions after the ending. I'd be glad to pay $10 just to be able to play the game past the endings, even if they didn't add too much. Unfortunately, when you look at all the stuff they'd have to change after the game was completed, like if you finished as NCR, the complete decimation of most Legion territories, it's easy to see why they've chosen not to do something. Really, the best DLC they could give us after Lonesome Road and Old World Blues would be to play past the ending, change Dead Money so that you can go back at your leisure, actually give the player some incentive to revisit Honest Hearts, (because once you've found all the collectibles, there's no real reason to go back) and fix some glitches, we'd have one of the best DLC's ever made. But, that's just a dream, and is likely never to happen. :( --ZzirBooty 01:24, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

But im saying why not make different ones for different endings... that way they wouldn't have to change too much except for the caesars legion ending...--OmnipotentPotato 02:18, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

Also you have to factor in the endings for each companion. Endgame sees some of the characters part ways with the courier doesn't it?

I think instead of giving us a changed wasteland according to the factions we chose they should give us the next best thing. A DLC which brings a totally different ending and changes the wasteland in only a small way, that would be a lot simpler. Like add a couple new enemies maybe some different raider types and stuff like that, a few NPC's added to the boarded up houses which annoy us so much when you think ooooohhh that looks interesting... WTF no door!. I mean I just want some like Broken Steel even if it doesn't let you play after the end. All I want is a few more "Unboarded" houses and buildings a couple new NPC's interesting Gangs etc. More worthwhile and noteable loot from interesting "Tells it's own story" places. Cause I mean anyone else kinda feel disappointed when you entered Bonnie Springs (Just NE of GoodSprings I may be wrong) and you killed the mercs there and the town in itself had more Potential than Goodsprings all together but, all the buildings were boarded up =/ FalloutJoe 09:52, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

I like to think companions didnt automatically leave, and instead went on crazy adventures for a few more months/years--OmnipotentPotato 03:43, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

Dude, all they would have to do is put the soliders of the faction which you chose, in the guard and patrol places of the other two major factions (ex. if you sided with Mr. House, put securitrons at Camp Mcarren and the Fort) or they could just leave the enemy camps empty. they claim that there would be too many chages but most changes that should happen are pre-ending anyway (Ex. Killing BoS, clearing out NCRCF, killing Caesar, bringing law back to Primm, ETC.) plus they could say that the time you spend Post-Ending is "Directly after" and they wouldnt have to add any major changes. And as for the companion departures its not like as soon as Raul helps you win the battle he'd immediately say "Well, see ya, I'm off to go be a Cowboy Super-Hero"

Bethesda has stated several times that they don't *plan* to make a dlc allowing you to continue the game after the main storyline is completed, but they have said that that *could* change. However, I don't think it will. I would really like to see them release a dlc that lets you explore Area 51 - kind of like Mothership Zeta. I just think it would require too much programming to release something like Broken Steel with all of the not-so-loose-ends at the end of the game. -WildWasteland

Release Date

Glad to see that the expansion has an offical date, really happy they decided to take their time on this one. I hope some of the major bugs in vegas are worked out, that would really be an added bonus to this expansion. Eckrack 07:49, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

It actually seems pretty likely, because on the Big Empty Map you see a chamber with a REPCONN model rocket.

perhaps this started when RobCO was "with" REPCONN, maybe?--OmnipotentPotato 22:33, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Which door or cave or whatever in mojave wasteland is going be the entrance for old world blues? Does anyone know?

The video that was released a while back has a satellite that lands near Mojave Drive-In, a little ways south there is an unmarked train tunnel, thats my best guess.

Sierra Madre

Am I the only one who thinks that there should be some gift in OWB for completing DM? Since the Madre and the Big Empty are so technologically similar (the Sierra Madre being the only place with fully functioning holograms) I think it would be a nice treat for users if there was some sort of teleporter that could take you to and from the sierra madre. It would be some defunct feature of the player base (I think located in the sink?) until DM is completed. IiStEaLXx 14:12, July 10, 2011 (UTC)

I was actually think of something similar to that but more realistic, I mean father Elijah went to the Big Empty and maybe he found coordinates to the Sierra Madre or a way to get there from the surrounding area, like you can see it in the distance and once your done with OWB there a path that says something along the lines of "You see a structure in the distance(Requires Dead Money)" or "You see an eerily familiar structure in the distance(Travel to the Sierra Madre)" if you have already completed DM. Shadows of the Old World 19:38, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

I like the idea of being able to travel back to the Sierra Madre. sticking with the SM, is it safe to assume that because christine royce is present in OWB that Dead Money MUST be completed BEFORE being able to play OWB, or would she just not be there if you haven't completed dead money? Clueless93 16:03, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

According to the developers, none of the DLCs require another to be played and they can be played in any order. This implies that maybe the patch that will come with OWB will contain some redesigned story elements and dialogue in Dead Money OR, and this is more likely, Christine won't be absolutely essential to the plot of OWB and her input in the story can be bypassed by players if they haven't completed or downloaded DM. Either way, looking forward to finding out tomorrow :D 81.132.238.227 20:13, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Why the new trait?

For what reason would you want to cap your level at 30? Is there some benefit that this trait provides that isn't listed?

Exactly what I was thinking, I mean usualy such a feature in RPG's is benificial for PVP stuff. Obviously New Vegas has no competitive modes or even multiplayer so what the hell? I could understand it if it had the Fallout 3 and Oblivion feature of the general difficulty progressing as you level up but as far as I know New Vegas' difficulty stays the same, with different areas populated by different leveled enemies, so again I ask, what the hell? lol.-- Lyco499 (talk) 01:55, July 11, 2011 (UTC)
My guess is that the new trait will allow you to choose a perk every level, but cap you at 30. That would be 30 perks with 200+ fewer skill points at level 30 vs 25 perks with 200+ more skill points at level 50. 211.45.200.63 11:21, July 12, 2011 (UTC)
I just think it's because so many people are bitching that the game is too easy and they want you to have the option to make it more restricting. It means, if you take it, you won't be able to max out all your skills or take every perk you want. It's just another element to try to quiet down the crying. Zac hemker 17:07, July 13, 2011 (UTC)
I see already an exploit - when having Level 50 (with Lonesome Road) and respec your character, exchange a trait for this. You have the benefit AND already your level capped. If... if the requirement for this perk is a level less then chosen like 45. MysteryStranger 23:14, July 13, 2011 (UTC)
Is the current level thing confirmed? As far as I see it, the respec could force a cap at level 30 if the trait was taken during character regeneration. 211.45.200.63 13:09, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

If your character is already over level 30, then this trait is unavailable. It'll be blacked out in the trait reconfiguration screen. -Alister Poe 13:08, July 22, 2011 (UTC)

Christine's voice?

In the preview the random gal doing the interview shows that she got to do some voice acting for OWB, one of the voices is for Christine from Dead Money, who she notes couldn't speak before.

Well as many of you know Christine got a voice at the end, forget her name but it was some starlet's voice, that was how the courier accessed the Vault in the Sierra Madre, it required a voice sample as the password. So basicaly Christine got a voice, so not only is the interviewer wrong, but why the hell does she suddlenly have a third voice?!-- Lyco499 (talk) 01:49, July 11, 2011 (UTC)

Dean's work on her vocal chords wasn't permanant. Although she had Vera's voice in Dead Money, by the time she and the Courier meet again, her voice has reverted to its original state. This is the explanation that the developers have given us anyway, seems a bit rushed to me buuuuuut never mind. I'm more interested in just seeing her again TOMORROW :D 81.132.238.227 20:18, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

OWB plot idea

Judging from the Trailer and information I already know, here is my idea of the plot

First you are lured in, perhaps tricked into taking part in an experiment. however you are captured and put under, your brain is removed (how you survive without it I can't for the life of me figure out) and used as leverage to do some experiments, starting simple combat with say training bots or something but then something goes wrong. One of the scientists betrays the other and takes your brain, in other words you must either beat him and get your brain back, or work with him in exchange for your brain.

I'm sure I'm wrong but this is my idea. --Brengarrett 18:33, July 12, 2011 (UTC)

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me; it's better than what I could imagine anyways.

My guess is it's not just your brain. There's a skeleton in a spacesuit in the trailer, and my money's on that being you. They said they'd remove your skin anyway. I think your skeleton becomes a sort of remote controlled dummy commanded around by your captive brain, and the option to redesign your character comes when you are replacing parts after reuniting. Here's hoping you get some cool robo bits built in as well.

Companions?

I think everybody overlooked companions in Old World Blues. Anybody know if there are actually going to be any new companions for the add-on? If so, I hope Muggy is a companion because having a miniature Securitron with a random liking for mugs following you around while shooting people and creatures in his quest for mugs sounds like the perfect companion for me. Any other ideas for companions anyone? 99.57.157.3 12:59, July 13, 2011 (UTC)

I want the Toaster. He sounds like a bad mother fucker. I'd love to see him hopping around, scorching assholes with his scathing bad attitude. Zac hemker 17:09, July 13, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe Christine could be recruitable again in OWB. Hope so. 81.132.238.227 20:20, July 18, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe we'll meet other "test subjects" in the facility? As for Christine, I don't think she'll be there in person. It would be really cool, don't get me wrong, but her being there would contradict her ending slide in DM. We'll see in a few hours regardless.--173.210.173.102 05:41, July 19, 2011 (UTC)

Major loopholes.

If you kill Christine in Dead Money she won't appear in OWB (I'm assuming people cant be brought back to life), but if you kill her in OWB then Dead Money will, well, die. So can you only do OWB after DM or is Christine immortal? Also won't dialogue change? I'm so confused!!!--OmnipotentPotato 19:59, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

I wouldn't imagine there would be. She was at Big MT before going to the Sierra Madre where she either dies or spends the rest of her life as its sentinel. There's no way she'd be in Big MT regardless of how you resolved her plot line in Dead Money. Tyrasis 08:47, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

From what I've experienced, simply loading from inside a new game is sufficient, letting you skip the file moving. Tyrasis 08:48, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

Lock The Page?

After spending a short time constantly refreshing the "Old world blues" page, I have seen alot of abuse of people adding inapropriate information being added and i have come to the suggestion that we should "Lock the page" (so to speak) this means that only admins may be able to edit the page and any others must be given express permission from the admins to do so Cloudstrife133 19:27, July 19, 2011 (UTC)

Even though I'm not an actual "Dedicated Editor" or whatever you guys call those that do not have an account on this wiki, I agree with Cloudstrife133's idea to "lock the page" because this DLC is a fresh release and a bunch of people might mess with the page and feed false information which can mislead other people viewing this page. I think that the page should be unlocked only after a few days have passed. 99.34.246.86 15:14, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

Old World Blues trivia?

Am I the only one that has caught the Venture Brothers references?
Zero sounds like Rusty?
Zero is addicted to Mentats, Rusty is addicted to "Diet Pills".
8 is a play on HELPeR.
Dr.O, what they call Zero, is what the Boys call Dr.Orfeus.
The sink central intelligence says "Penguins have a gland above their eyes that convert sea water into fresh water", Dean says that to Triana when he first meets her.
X2, the name of one of the venture's transports.
Thats all I've found so far, havn't played far yet.

So im not the only one eh? Yes, they could be a reference to Venture Bros. Another reference I've seen is the Forbidden Zone, which is a reference to Futurama. Saxony4 17:10, July 20, 2011 (UTC)

  • More than likely, Futurama referenced it from Planet of the Apes.FO Ophiuchus 01:06, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Yanno, that is a DAMN good point, I hadn't even noticed that... weird. I was rather disappointed that we didn't learn anything more about Saturnite Alloy, especially even while poking around something called The Saturnite Alloy Research Facility. I also would have liked to learn a lot more than that which they hinted at regarding the Sierra Madre being used as testing grounds for The Cloud and the suggested link between the Y-17 trauma override harnesses and the Ghost people.

Who is it that's constantly thinking that everything is a Doctor Who reference?

Um im not sure if this person is aware of this fact but, there was only one thing in this game that was a reference to Doctor Who. You are obviously a big fan of then show but, not everything in OWB is a Doctor Who spin off.

Please sign your posts, ^_^. It's hard to respond to you without it. Anyway... ehhh... While there are a number of Dr. Who references throughout FO:NV and its add-ons, I'm fairly certain that K9000's the only one in OWB.

If anything, I was getting much more of a Red vs Blue/Team Fortress/Any Two-Team FPS vibe throughout the whole damn thing. Mostly from from the red and blue lights that lit up each base and the Red or Blue tags of the Old World Flag (the tag themselves may also a reference to Ulysses, I dunno.) that can be found on various buildings, facilities, boxes and lockers.

Also, to whomever believes that there are more, I'd love to talk with you over on my talk page about that, but remember that Dr. Who itself makes a LOT of references to other things.

--The Arcadian Rook(talk)(Needs More Battle Cattle) 20:30, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

It wasn't me constantly posting about Dr. Who, but there is one more reference in OWB that I've found. If you have Wild Wasteland, you can hear some of the trauma override harnesses say "Who turned out the lights?!?" In that context, it's from an episode where some guy gets his flesh eaten away while inside a spacesuit, and the organisms continue controlling what's left of him. Those were the guys last words. Definite reference, and wow do I sound like a giant nerd right now. GrahamCracker4m 19:49, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Old World Flag Graffiti

So apparently I'm the only one who's noticing all these Old World Flags painted in either red, white or blue all over Big MT? I presume that Ulysses painted them as a sort of "Hobo Code", but I still haven't worked out what they mean... I'm assuming that the colors mean something since I found a blue one by the door of the X-17 meteorological station and then found another blue one on the floor by a map of the Big MT. There's also a blue one by Ulysses' Point and The Cuckoo's Nest. There's a red one on the door to X-2 transmitter antenna array... I know I've seen a white one somewhere. I'm currently going around through the map trying to find them all again.

Anyway... Any thoughts? --- TandyBomb 19:34, July 30, 2011 (UTC)

Well I found a white one at the Big MT North Tunnel near the Forbidden Zone Dome Entrance in case your trying to find one but I think that these markings are just showing where Ulysses went to around the Big Empty but I don't know why he made the graffiti drawings. 99.60.222.204 22:12, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

anybdoy know how much play time is added by this dlc in completing these quests?(obviously this would be a very rough estimate since it varies person to person how quickly they do it)

Not receiving starting things. New bug?

I believe I just found a new bug, although I'm not sure if I did anything wrong. I started Old World Blues, and after the initial dialogue with the Think Tank ended I proceeded with talking to them individually etc, then went on with the quests, only to discover on a side quest that I never got a sonic emitter nor any of the "appliances" thingies of the base. IF I remember correctly when I played it before(different character, never finished) I had got those things after the first dialogue, along with some weapons. The problem is, I was forced to cheat to get a sonic emitter to proceed with my quests, thinking at the time that this was a minor issue. Now that I finished the main quest(I chose to let the think tank work for me), I figured this out and most of the utilities do not work(e.g the little robot, central intelligence unit, etc). Has this happened to anyone else? I will try to cheat my way through to enable them and will update ;p Also note, I'm on a PC.

Neat way to boost your skills, 5 points at a time.

I just practiced doing this on my xbox 360. I moved the add-on to my flash drive and started a new game. I started old world blues and quickly ran for the Y-17 facility for the auto-doc upgrade. Chose the Skilled trait and then saved. I went to dashboard, unplugged my flashdrive contain OWB. Started my save, somehow I teleported back to goodsprings since I didn't have OWB plugged in. I kept my 5 bonus points from the Skilled trait, and I repeated it again. Got the autodoc upgrade after re-installing my flashdrive with OWB in it and chose the Skilled trait again. Repeat and repeat and yeah. I keep getting 5 points to all my skills every time I pay for about 20 minutes (to get the talking and introduction of OWB out of the way every time). A small price to pay for 100 on all my skills. The max amount of time somebody would actually need isn't like 30 times, maybe 10 at most. Considering your skills stay the same, after getting the skill books recipes and doing it over and over.

I guess it could work with other add-ons as well. Just read a skill book found in the add-on, save, exit, delete add-on, save, exit, re-install add-on, read skill book that spawned again, repeat.

Pretty nifty huh?--Felix BrehhUser talk:Felix Brehh 10:38, June 6, 2012 (UTC)

I don't have any hard evidence, but I think the Big Empty is actually based on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, home of the atomic bomb and the Manhattan Project (something extremely important to the Fallout world). It had and still has several locations within it that go by alphanumeric code names just like OWB, such as X-10, Y-12, K-25, and S-50. Yes, Oak Ridge is in Tennessee and this is supposed to be close enough to the Mohave for certain story elements to properly take place, so it's placed on Big Mountain... also known as Black Mesa, which is a joke at Valve's expense. Would it be alright to add this information to the notes? -- 64.18.96.103 23:17, September 19, 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like a long shot, especially the Valve thing. I think there needs to be more evidence of this, naming locations by alphanumerical order isn't much of a reference really, a lot of places do that. If it's in Tennessee then it's an even slimmer chance of being right. I think it's best to wait on other people's feedback. Personally this doesn't seem like it connects very well. BOS callbacks

I know this may be a touchy subject, but as I understand it this particular piece of DLC contains a number of callbacks/references to the much-hated game "Fallout Brotherhood of Steel" (although having played it I feel that hatred is exaggerated). The DLC includes a vault-boy image from the game, similar electrical weaponry, and from what I hear even a reference to the secret vault... I think that the callbacks to BOS should be noted somewhere on the page (especially if that last bit about the secret vault is true) ralok (talk) 03:56, October 22, 2013 (UTC)
