Robert McNamara[]

Could he be a reference to Robert McNamara who was the 8th U.S secretary of defense?

I thought it may be. I even considered adding it.The Emporer 17:35, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

McNamara is a common name. What on earth would connect the elder to the secretary? It is not a reference.--Gothemasticator 18:17, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
I would give more credence to the Smith family of Andale in Fallout 3 being a reference to the album "Meat is Murder" by the band "The Smiths" - and that's far too tenuous a connection. --Kris User Hola 18:33, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
Robert McNamara was an unusually intellectual/analytical Secretary of Defense; Nolan is an unusually intellectual/analytical elder. And both are tormented by the understanding that what they are doing (Vietnam War/sticking to Maxson's code) is the wrong course, but both are unable to do anything about it. I've assumed that this was a Robert McNamara reference, but I admit that this is just circumstantial evidence. The calculator 05:52, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

I would guess if he's a reference to anything, he's a reference to the song "McNamara's Band" (40s Bing Crosby song, seems likely...)

But just a thought!

Rank?[]

Does anyone know what McNamara's rank in the Brotherhood was before he became Elder?69.76.169.69 04:52, January 5, 2011 (UTC)Waffles

All Elders were Head paladins, before that paladin, before that knight, before that Initiate, Possibly before that squire but I am not entirely sure.--Boone123 05:57, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

This is well past the time this was brought up, but just for the benefit of anyone else who may read this later, not all Elders were Head Paladins, Elijah was a Scribe, he may have been a one off but it still means there is no paladin requirement for leadership promotion.94.8.24.204 14:42, September 24, 2015 (UTC)

Fix found for bug with lockdown stuck - xbox 360[]

After completing the still in the dark quest, McNamara was stuck in dialog saying he was busy with the lockdown. I had a hunch this had to do with installing the 1.2 patch before receiving the eyesight to the blind quest. I uninstalled the patch and reloaded the save, McNamara was fixed. I was able to not only get the quest for eyesight to the blind, buy upon returning it, I was able to establish the truce with ncr for the republic part 2 quest. I'm on my iPhone because my pc is down, can someone please add this information to wiki for me? Thanks.

Ps3 bug still not fixed[]

I have waited approximately 11 days game time, attempted shooting the elder and then holstering my weapon and even fast travelled away and then back, but McNamara still won't talk to me and just says some garbage about preparing the bunker to end lockdown. I want to Start eyesight to the blind and get a Treaty signed and some power armor training.

Also, I can use the firing range and buy from knight Torres and sometimes knights say to me "oh you're one of us now, that's a rare privilege' but still no quests or dialogue.

Is it me[]

or does it not really make sense for him to sign a treaty with the ncr while hardin won't? Veronica's whole quest line shows how non negotiable he is, and hardin amplifies that belief. I would think that Hardin is therefore more likely to sign a treaty with ncr than he is. 76.198.70.129 21:45, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Overthrow McNamara and NCR Peace Treaty?[]

I was wondering how you can overthrow McNamara and get a Peace Treaty, the Hardin Article was kind of vague on how you do that. Do you just talk to McNamara about making a Peace Treaty after doing Hardin's Dirty work and turn it in to the NCR Col. before reporting back to the bunker?  :?

I think I read somwhere you must complete McNammers's quests first, then discuss the peace treaty and then oust Elder from his position... But maybe it's not true. It still can be worth checking. MysteryStranger 10:14, August 8, 2011 (UTC)

If that's the case, where should I hold off giving Hardin info until I got the Treaty written up? On The Chains That Bind Part or the Intel on the missing patrols or elsewhere? I do like Hardin more than Mac, but Hardin won't negotiate w/ NCR. X(

console commands are the only way past them (there's a similar Great Khan impass)

voice glitch[]

Sometimes McNamara says "later" in the same voice as a Freeside Thug/Fiend or (I think it's) Anthony. Is there a glitch in which sound file plays or something? Fallout: Shades of Grey, coming 2012 16:04, September 14, 2011 (UTC)
