Fallout 2[]

No confirmation obviously, but this reminds me of the Light Machine Gun from Fallout 2. Triaxx2 01:50, June 3, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I was thinking. Light Support Weapon all the way. Nitty Tok. 01:51, June 3, 2010 (UTC)

Terms[]

Okay, seriously...What's up with all these terms? "it can chew through most critters" This is a serious wiki... Insane! 00:06, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

It's a serious wiki when we get information. Nitty Tok. 00:08, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Wait...How come I can't edit it? :S Insane! 00:09, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Because there have been too many "OMG IT'S A PKM" edits. Besides, the terms are fine; they're going to be replaced anyway. Nitty Tok. 00:11, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, okay...Good, they'll be replaced. I find them annoying. lol Insane! 00:14, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Appearance[]

Can an admin please add that it looks like an L86 LSW? Tezzla blah blah blah 16:52, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Uh, no, it's not like an L86 AT ALL75.11.50.214 06:42, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

It's a M60 Machine Gun. You can tell because of the design. - Texas Ranger 23:11, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

It doesn't look like an M60 at all. To me it seems like some descendant of the BAR. YuriKaslov-M1911 small Yuri Kaslov 02:57, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

And regardless of what real-life gun it resembles, we generally don't add that info to the article page. --Kris mailbox 19:09, August 28, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry Yuri, you're wrong. It does not have any of the design features of a BAR, except for the wood furniture. Everything else about it, from the barrel, to the receiver, to the gas system, to the front sight post, resembles an M60.--71.234.106.119 05:53, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

What the gun looks like does not matter because it is not a real gun. Alternate universe with alternate guns. Think of it as a combination of multiple LMGs. 70.179.38.132 02:50, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with 70.179.38.132. Besides why should it matter, it is a fictional gun, so it doesn't matter which real life gun it resembles, it isn't that gun. RogierWV 12:47, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

The M60 never had a 5.56 variant, although it has a little brother in 5.56 named M63. The only PKM resemblence i see is the carry handle, which is on almost all non-mounted machine guns. TJbrena 00:04, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

I'd say it's modeled after (though not quite the same) the M249 light machine gun, or commonly refered to as the SAW when I was in. The M249 uses 5.56mm. 184.60.20.232 02:30, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

I'd say you're absolutely right, it is almost exactly an M249 in shape and design, except it has wooden furniture, and isn't open-bolt. YuriKaslov-M1911 small Yuri Kaslov 21:39, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

It's a PKM with solid stock. Unless it isn't belt fed, then its some sort of AKM. But why does it matter? Its it's own gun, maybe created by it's own company entirely in a parallel universe. We could get down to the semantics of where other gun makers got their idea and how our own real world guns look similar to each other and who copied who, their isn't really any point unless its a striking similarity or reference.AryeonosWhat!? 07:03, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Ammo[]

The LMG uses 5.56mm, can an admin update the page. D3V0NST8R

Str Req.[]

Anyone know the Str req. for this gun? Ouroboros Omega 20:15, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

In-game says STR 8. I'm able to hold with Str 6.-- Brunnjon 17:00, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

There's a penalty for not meeting the STR or Skill requirements for a weapon. It doesn't mean you can't wield it. --Kris User Hola 17:10, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Location[]

Does anyone know where I might be able to find this weapon?

You can find this weapon in Quarry Junction. It is located inside the Deathclaw Matriarch's cave, along with a few Deathclaw Eggs and a Mini Nuke. Proceed with caution.

Look for the gunrunner shack out by the East Freeside gate, they'll sometimes have it in stock, if not, they rotate stock on ingame sundays.

I often finde one on my way from Prim to Nipton, depending on your luck mutant that spawn ther may have one even on realy low levels. I remember it saved my life wen i dicided insted of Nipton to go to Novac and run att blinde Deathclow :P

Possible bug[]

I've been having an issue with the LMG all night. Sometimes the gun recoils like it's being fired, ammo is used up, but there is no muzzle flash and no damage on the target. The only thing that fixes the problem is to save, exit the game entirely and reload. PC version. --Rooker75 10:32, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

-I find it strange that this weapon outclasses a mini-gun in every possible way except spread.

spread is a big deal, riot shotgun with slug outlass almost everything except for it's spread, but that doesn't matter if half of your bullets miss. Oh and you need to look at a weapon with all it's mods, minigun can reduce spread some more and increase speed (that adds about 100 dps) 137.186.66.8

Characteristics section still not updated[]

Since patch 1.5 the weapon's reliability and accuracy have been significantly increased but since i don't own the PC version of FNV (and thus don't have access to the world builder files) i can't easily determine how many rounds it can fire before breaking and would like to know if anyone would check this info out.

Extra 5.2 pounds with expanded drums?[]

What does the article mean by "the expanded drums add an extra 5.2 pounds of weight", unless this is from all the ammunition carried in hardcore mode (which i doubt) i know for a fact that the weapon mod in question does not add extra weigh because i added it a number of times to the LMG and never had an increase in weight.

It's incorrect. A full modded clip (200 rounds) of 5.56mm ammo weighs 5.2 pounds (0.026 x 200 = 5.2) in hardcore mode, so the expanded drums only adds 2.86 pounds of loaded ammo. And even then, it's not actually adding any weight (that weight is still counted as ammo, not being added to the weight of the gun), so I question whether or not that sentence even belongs under the characteristics section. --Danaw167 23:09, September 29, 2011 (UTC)

Regardless of the armor?[]

The page says the light machinegun it's useful against multiple enemies "REGARDLESS of the armor" because of it's fast rate of fire, this weapon has a low DAM but an oustanding DPS and a giant magazine, it works best against lots of UNARMORED enemies, i would never use it against Deathclaws and Super mutants (both having an inmate 15 DT) or enemies with some powerfull armor, so i will remove that from the page.

Or you could load up AP rounds and completely negate the DT of that deathclaw.

Classification as rifle[]

The LMG already weighs 15 pounds (should be considered heavy) and has a DPS just as high as miniguns and SMMGs. It also has a high strength requirement, and high guns skill requirements. Why is this classified as a rifle, and not as a heavy weapon? --Lolzarz (talk) 23:54, April 22, 2013 (UTC)

Because it is used as a rifle and doesn't feature the same ammo oack used by other Guns heavy weapons. I think it also has to do with the GECK data, but you'll need to ask someone with FNV GECK. Great Mara (talk) 00:00, April 23, 2013 (UTC)
The GECK has different animation types for the way different guns are held. The LMG has the animation for two-hand automatic rifles. Anonynmous April 7, 2014
