Sights?[]

It kinda looks like there some sort of optic mounted on the weapon. Agree? Disagree? Thoughts? --1337Anon (talk) 19:14, June 4, 2015 (UTC)

Possible deletion[]

I'm having a bit of a conundrum. The recent E3 showcase has shown that a laser rifle is now basically just a modded laser pistol. Specifically, a laser pistol with a long barrel and full stock. Since we can't have a page for every single permutation, there would be hundreds, should this be deleted? Paladin117>>iff bored; 20:24, June 15, 2015 (UTC)

I would support this idea, as well the weapon sitting beside the garage on the 4K image. None of the weapons or armor in FO4 are likely to be simply stock, as we already know the armor in the garage is heavily modified as well. You're correct, the number of permutations on weapons and armor renders the standard method of item documentation unfit. Digital21 (talk) 20:35, June 15, 2015 (UTC)

I'd rather wait. It is not clear which ones are and which are not. Though I think I saw that the video skipped some parts, regarding this rifle. We shall see. ☢ Energy X ☣ 20:52, June 15, 2015 (UTC)

The E3 showcase showed that the laser pistol had all "standard" parts, and that changing out these parts would change it's name. It showed specifically that giving it a long barrel and a full stock created the laser rifle. Other variations include a "long laser pistol", "laser sniper rifle", etc. This will result in each weapon have thousands of variations, which we can't have a page for each. Basically, the only thing that never changes is the Base-Type/Ammo. Everything else is defined by the Mod Parts.
So we could just bundle them under that name. Example:
Laser weapon
  • Laser weapon#Laser pistol
  • Laser weapon#Laser rifle
  • Laser weapon#Laser musket

It would be quite strange not to have pages for laser rifle and such. I am just saying that some of these modded weapons should have their own page, but only if they are found commonly throughout the Wasteland and have been seen before, like laser/plasma rifle. It is hard to say.

While it maybe strange, it seems like the most logical thing to do considering the plethora of modifications and such. This wiki will be full of clutter if we can't condense the weapons down to a page or two for each weapon type. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2013 - BSHU Graduate 15:31, June 17, 2015 (UTC)
If modding a weapon changes the noun - going from "pistol" to "laser," for example - then there should be a separate page for it. I'd much prefer to keep the distinction in place - after all it's easy to just make note of the fact that X weapon can be converted into Y or Z with so-and-so. For example look at pipe pistol and pipe rifle - we can have separate sections for conversions, followed by normal mods that don't change the type. --Pyramidhead (talk) 22:53, June 17, 2015 (UTC)

I agree with paladin, but I also disagree. We can't have a page for every single fallout 4 permutation and created gun, but we also don't know if the laser rifle will appear normally in fallout 4 gameplay. we should wait for the game to come out and keep the page, as the laser rifle is an intrinsic part of the fallout series and deserves to be recognized. So, what was the consensus on this? Do we keep it around because it has a unique name or do we delete it because it is the offshoot of several weapon modifications?

Edit: Just to be clear, I am all for keeping the page until it is proven that the weapon will not have a base iteration and is thus created by building off of the laser pistol (which could totally have been built off of the laser derringer).

Keeping it seems like the best option because if it is built through modifications then adjusting with a table or list of how to create it seems like a logical approach. For example, if you require a laser pistol to build it then the table could detail building it. It would start with a base weapon. In this example: Laser Pistol with the ID. Then the table could expand upon all the specific ways to modify a laser rifle once created. If you can modify a laser rifle into another more powerful laser weapon then the table could show that modification with a link to page for the newly created weapon. This might be the best way to deal with what at this point in time appears to be a very in-depth modification system. It seems that a base table does exist on the page already so keeping it might be the best way to go with edits as new information is learned. --XXRavenBlackXx (talk) 15:30, July 13, 2015 (UTC)

Removing the page for the laser rifle may not be such a good idea, the laser rifle has appeared in other Fallout games, so it may be a standalone weapon. While it is in fact possible to make the laser rifle with a laser pistol, it is likely that it may be possible to obtain it from fallen combatants/NPCs. If you do decide to remove the page, go ahead, but if it turns out that the laser rifle is a real weapon, then you should probably put it back. --User: Greatknight22 ( talk ) 8:19, October 6, 2015 (UTC)

Not appearing in console[]

This item does not seem to display in the console when searched for. Typing help "Laser Rifle" 0 yields nothing. What I'm reading is that this is because the Laser Rifle is a variation of of the Laser Pistol. I added the base ID on the page. SterlingArbiter (talk) 21:03, November 16, 2015 (UTC)
