RCW

what do you think RCW stands for, my best guess is Riot Control Weapon. -Anon

Really Cool Weapon?
Rice Cake Wolloper?
Right Clever Weapon?

--Gothemasticator 04:38, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

RCW in modern weapons terms stands for Remote Control Weapon.AryeonosWhat!? 20:21, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

I'd say it means "rapid cyclic weapon". YuriKaslov-M1911 small Yuri Kaslov 20:31, October 31, 2010 (UTC)\

A really logical guess is something around the lines of Recycling Canister Weapon. Nukey talk 20:59, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Invisible Laser Bug (360)

When i was in V34 in the reactor room there was this bug where the lasers were invisible and un damaging to the ghouls, I died because of it (X360) Has anyone else experienced this bug --(24.19.155.150 02:05, October 27, 2010 (UTC))

Lock

this page needs to be locked or something, every man and his dog is making comparisons to a tommy gun and even though it looks like one, my understanding was that unless confirmed by a dev or something, making comparisons to real weapons was against the rules -Anon

? Locked? lol, kthxbai De Accipitre Deserta 22:38, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

Let us all agree that it looks like a futuristic (and cool looking) Thompson SMG. - Texas Ranger 22:09, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

it totally does but, unless confirmed by the devs, one can't make comparisons to real weapons - the same Anon

I just deleted a comparison to a tommygun for the 4th time, its the 5th or 6th time I've seen a comparison with out proper citation! -this anon should make an account already

Actually I have to disagree, you can make a comparison as you did above in that it looks like a tommy gun. There is no debating that fact and needs no dev confirmation to that fact either. Granted it is stating the obvious, but at the same time it would also stop the morons posting it as it already posted, hence why you need to state the obvious purely for the moronic uninformed contributer. But you can then go on to actually say what it really is to also cover the more educated and informed reader. Its all in the wording of the page and acts as a compromise for both ends of the spectrum involved. You could simple write it up something like this
While Laser RCW may look very similar in design to a Thompson M1928A1 or "Tommy Gun" as it is more commonly known, it is in fact a laser rifle and bares no other resemblance to the afore mentioned gun. The unique feature of this rifle that not only gives it is name "RCW" or "Rapid Capacitor Weapon" but also its unique look and high rate of fire for a laser rifle is the addition of a drum below. This drum contains a bank of capacitors in a circle formation centered around a ECP that powers them, as each capacitors is fired off in succession producing a single laser beam, it is allowed time to recharge up to full equivalent while the following capacitors discharge in rotation. This addition operates under the same basic principle that multi barreled ballistic weapons such as the minigun does, with having multiple capacitors like the minigun has multiple barrels, it breaks the RoF limitations imposed by a single capacitor.
There I think that covers both ends from the moronic to the educated based of what information is provided by the devs and pleases all GhostAvatar 18:26, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
I think it should be added, if only for the sole purpose of stopping the never-ending edits adding the comparisons to the Thompson.--Jonathan Strange 18:35, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Well if no one objects to what I wrote here, I am going to add it to the main page in a few days GhostAvatar 19:09, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Don't include the bit about how it looks like a tommy gun. Hold the line, GhostAvatar! Don't let the barbarians in the gates! :) Seriously, I realize what a chore it is to remove comparisons so often, but letting them stand didn't save us any work either. They just become points of ongoing contention.--Gothemasticator 22:51, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
But it all depends on how you read into it, on the outset it may seem like it is drawing comparisons to the tommy. But what it is saying is that while a dumb ass my see it as a tommy gun, it is in no way comparable to a tommy gun with extra emphasis on the dumb ass bit hihi =D
However the whole article draws comparisons and there is still parts that (on a subconscious level) contributors have referred to the tommy in a indirect fashion and may not have even realized it.
For starters, it is referred to as a Laser SMG, it is in no way a SMG due to its characteristics and people are probably assuming it is a SMG due to the Tommy also being a SMG. A SMG uses pistol rounds which is what classifies it as a sub, the RCW does not use the energy equivalent of pistol rounds, hell it doesn't even use the same rounds as the rest of the rifles. It uses the same ammo that is generally reserved for the heavy weapon class, but is obviously needed to charge several capacitors at once compared to the rest of the rifles only needing to charge one.
It is also referred to as a pulsed laser rifle. A rifle is a single action long barreled gun designed to fire from the shoulder with a grooved inner barrel (rifling) to impart spin upon the round exiting the barrel give it great accuracy at long range. Rifling is something that is not possible with energy weapons, also it has more than a single action with rubbish long range capability (unless you have some nice perks), the closest comparison to a ballistic weapon would be the sub cat of rifles known as assault rifles, which is a selective rapid fire rifle effective at mid range and that does fit the bill with the only exception of not having a rifled barrel. Avatar 02:25, November 15, 2010 (UTC) P.S. Just call me Avatar, someone stole that name =( just never bothered to change the sig until now

Actually, a weapon exactly like this was present in Futurama series long before even Fallout 3 was out. Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdb878e8Ryw at 0:26. And thats just one appearance - its used lots of times in the series.

P.S. If you look at this picture http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/080702/Holidays/Futurama-Xmas-Story_l.jpg , you can see that it is exactly the same weapon - notice three green circles on the barrel.91.196.194.154 12:31, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

trigger discipline

the section where it mentions firing from the hip is better with trigger discipline should be removed.

i mean really, people need to stop trying to sell that terrible trait to people. just because you want to believe its good doesnt make it so. its the most sure-fired way to gimp your character, and people just dont want to believe it because they took it and are in denial because they cant admit they made a mistake.

i mean really, 20% slower fire rate and 20% higher ap costs... its the worst possible trait you could take. at high skill levels its meaningless. with fast shot im supposed to have terrible accuracy in comparison and im still pegging things at max viewable distance with iron sites and scopes... trigger discipline is a bad joke.

I picked trigger discipline, did not think that one through.

this weapon has auto aim

maybe this is the only weapon that fire noticeable lasers accurate enough for this to be noticed. but when u get a hit in, following hits will veer toward the enemy even if the aim is not dead on.

There is a auto-aim built in the engine, it can be turned off globally for all weapons (lot of mods that do this on falloutnewvegasnexus.com); so it's not just this weapon. --Jonathan Strange 11:25, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Run 'n Gun

The article states that this weapon is affected by the Run 'n Gun perk. Is this a bug, or is someone just not thinking this through? Because according to the page for Run 'n Gun, it only affects one-handed weapons. Quite clearly, the Laser RCW is a two-handed weapon. So either there is a bug that allows this weapon to be affected by the Run 'n Gun perk, or someone needs to screw their head on straight. I'll leave the note alone, since I have no way to confirm or disprove it, but someone needs to take a serious look at it. Swk3000 13:34, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

So, taking a poll. Is the RCW Recycler mod useful? answer yes or no

Locations

I found one of these in the locked locker in Jeans sky diving, and its not on the "locations" heading. it might need to be added.

I found it at Jeans Sky Diving at level 5, by repeatedly(saving and reloading) entering the building, and opening the locked, locker. --70.71.118.55 01:43, December 13, 2010 (UTC)

I found a Laser RCW inside the duffel bag that's behind a "Warning: Beware of Deathclaws" sign next to the Yangtze Memorial; my character was either level 5 or 6 at the time. Deviant Mugen 02:12, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

I found a laser RCW in goodsprings cave, right at the end of the cave a dead bright brotherhood follower ( i think that's the name)has it alongside the follower another dead corpse has a laser pistol.

Recycling Mod

Has anyone else noticed that installing this mod seems to 'increase' the clip size compared to the unmodded version? I was watching my clip/ammo numbers as I held down the fire button to see how long it would take to empty a full clip and noticed that the 'recycled' 4th shot creates a short pause with the clip count...effectively adding 1/4 of the max clip size (+15 shots) as a bonus before needing to reload the weapon normally. Doesn't seem like much, but a little can go a long way in the Fallout universe. There have been (and will be) many moments where epic/long battles hit and the deciding factor boils down to either me popping a headshot off at the last moment for an epic victory...or taking a concrete club in the face while I'm trying to load a fresh clip to take the guy out. - The Godchild 23:01, December 16, 2010 (UTC)

ummm obviously, that's what it is supposed to do.

there are 2 of these in Primm in the bison hotel 2nd floor

A new note

I'd like to note that if you have an unmodded RCW in third person view without any ammunition, a floating ghost EC pack can be seen floating to the left of the barrel. I only tried it once, thought I'd make mention and see if anyone else is getting similar.
