Query: Mauler and Super Slam perk?[]

I picked up this weapon recently, decided to look it up on the wiki, and while reading I was wondering how the dual benefits from using Mauler in V.A.T.S. and having the Super Slam perk would interact with eachother. I.E., would the knockdown chance of both perk and special attack stack, or would they both have a seperate chance of knocking down the opponent according to their own knockdown chance, or would there perhaps be some other mechanic involved here? Thought this was worthy of note.

the Shining "reference"[]

As has been written repeatedly, this is just too much of a stretch. Axe + bathroom does not convincingly = The Shining. If there's more to the reference, then please write the reference well, so that readers can "get it." Thanks.--Gothemasticator 00:41, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

For the record, Jack Torrence to my knowledge does not say, "Knock Knock" in the movie. He does say, "Wendy, I'm home." and "Here's Johnny."--Gothemasticator 00:43, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
He does, however, say it in the original novel. Regardless, in what way is this too much of a stretch? It seems blatantly obvious. Why else name the item "Knock Knock," a phrase used to gain entrance to something? If you've seen the movie or even watched TV in the last 20 or so years you automatically associate an axe, a bathroom and the satirical act of requesting entry to a place when in possession of said axe with The Shining.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Here's an example, Blood Ties is a quest in Fallout 3 with vampires. It is also a T.V drama about a vampire, but it's not a reference. It's . Well i've watched T.V in the last 20 years and no, I don't. In Misfits the insane guy killed someone in the barthroom with an axe (that probably was a reference).Naming it Knock Knock would make sence with out The Shining because, "Knock Knock" is a phrase used to gain entrance to something (like you said) and an axe is often used to gain entrance, like by the firemen.JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 09:14, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

Your points do not discredit the possibility of the name being a reference to the novel "The Shining"; given that Autosigned has provided evidence, the burden of proof now lies on disproving the claim, and as such, said information should be added in with the caveat of "May allude" or another qualifier that denotes an unconfirmed source. Secondly, please proofread all content submitted for spelling and grammatical errors. 11:17, November 6, 2010 (UTC)
There's a difference in that "blood ties" is a generic phrase that can easily be associated with anything involving blood (I've seen a few games us it as a quest/level/chapter name), where "knock knock" makes little sense relating to the axe or anything else about the situation unless it is considered a reference. It seems like several people closely relate it to The Shining, including myself (as soon as I found it in fact), so there must be either a really lucky coincidence or an intentional reference. They even recolored the axe in a way that looks more like the axe in the movie rather than a fire axe. Ilovefuzzykittens 05:34, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

-(-(- This is probably a reference to The Shining. Just saying, cause, you know, there are reasonable connections to make even with our sparse evidence. Nothing to get worked up about. All I care to say is, in fact, 1)Found In Bathroom. 2)It's an Axe. 3)It's Recolored. Intentionally. 4)It's named Knock-Knock. 5)There are other references posted on this wiki that have even less evidence. -)-)-

You guys need to just accept that it has a reference to some pop culture. There is also no need to completely delete it. This isn't just your Wikia, you're not the only one who says what goes and what doesn't. If somebody posted it, and it has at least some truth behind it, there is absolutely no reason to delete it. The only time you should delete a comment is if it is ridiculously off topic and has absolutely zero evidence to support itself. So please, don't rudely delete somebody's note just because YOU think it doesn't belong there. --Felix Brehh 01:57, September 1, 2011 (UTC)

In my opinion it really IS a reference to shining. Think about it: Fire axe and the scene, in which Jack is KNOCKING two times and then he starts talking about three little pigs. I think that it's a reference, for sure.

Tim Cain, in his post mortem Fallout presentation at GDC a few years back (which can be found easily, and is a great watch) mentioned that at some point the pop culture references started to get so out of hand that they made a rule that if you reference something it has to be incredibly vague. He explains it better, but that's the gist of it. Following that rule, this is probably the closest they could get to reference The Shining, without making it blatantly obvious, like calling the axe "Johnny" or some such. I don't know if we need to point it out in the wiki page, but in my mind, this is an example of a well done reference. --174.25.108.188 23:51, May 30, 2014 (UTC).

I was just thinking why they didn't name the axe Johnny, but then thought it would be a too obvious reference. And this guy above me explained the thing and it all makes sense now. Thanks to this guy above I now know this weapon IS a definitve reference to the Stanley Kubrick movie, starring Jack Nicholson; The Shining. --User:SaiyanElite (talk) 14:42, March 4, 2016 (UTC)

Jury Rigging[]

I'm having trouble keeping this lovely weapon in good working order. It doesn't seem to be repairable wih anything new even with the Juryrigging perk. Anyone found any compatible weapons? 81.178.129.78 16:09, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Baseball Bats Nail Boards(These are rare, i wouldnt advise this) Rebar Clubs any melee weapon that requires two hands.

You could use weapon repair kits. Just gotta use a wrench, some electronics, some duct tape and chunks of metal and it will be good as new. Also, have you checked if the man at the South-west NCR outpost repair them?

Pool Cues also repair this weapon, Fiends carry them by the dozens and Blake always have one in stock every few days. ;) Brfritos 07:38, January 28, 2011 (UTC)

Visual Distinguishment[]

I am an anonymous browser, I would do it myself, but I truly suck at editing wikis. Would someone add to the description the fact that it differs from the standard axe in that the back of the head is thinner, and flat like a pickaxe? Thanks in advance.

Inconsistencies between weapon speed and AP cost[]

There seems to be no logic to it at all. For example, Knock-Knock has an AP cost of 21 yet only attacks twice per second according to the wiki. The Humble Cudgel also has an AP cost of 21 yet supposedly attacks 2.7 times per second. Lastly the War club has an AP cost of 21 yet the wiki states it attacks 3 times per second. ?!?!? Huh? This makes zero sense. Either out of VATS attack speed for almost all weapons have almost zero relation to their AP cost in VATS (which apart from being retarded as AP is supossed to represent time, would have huge implications on strategy) or the wiki is less trustworthy then a politician.

I aint even going to go into detail, as I feel it is going to be a waste of time. But needless to say, AP has no relevance with time and you have sadly misunderstood what it is. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 23:38, June 26, 2011 (UTC)
The numbers are typically checked with the GECK by PC gamers, so they are usually accurate. However, we don't have access to the logic behind why any particular weapon has a specific AP cost. --Kris User Hola 23:40, June 26, 2011 (UTC)

How do action points not have any relevancy to time? "Action points (or AP) is a game mechanic governing the number of things a player can do during one combat turn in Fallout and Fallout 2. Or in the V.A.T.S. mode for Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas." I haven't misunderstood shit so don't act as if you'd be wasting your time. Anyways, this seems like such a huge balance fuck-up i had trouble actually believing the numbers written in this wiki. (Didn't want to diminish people's work in this wiki)

You have misunderstood, action points determine the amount of actions you can take based on the cost of the item. Not the amount of time it takes to perform those said actions or use the item. There is no correlation between time and action points in terms of game mechanics, nor is there any mention of the word time when referring to the use/cost of AP. It is all based around how much you can do, not how long it takes you to do it. This is where you have misunderstood it and personally inferred a correlation between the two separate things. As for the figures, they have been verified, believe them or not is up to you. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 00:11, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

No, you (wilfully) misunderstand. Fast Shot: "You don't have time to aim for a targeted attack, because you attack faster than normal people. It costs you one less action point for guns and thrown weapons.". Faster = Less AP. The word "faster" indicates time. End of discussion. I really don't even understand what your motivation is to debate this, so i'm going to ignore your semantics as trolling as they derail the issue.

And here I was thinking you was actually talking about AP and the game mechanics, not the things that affect it. But since you are so smart, please enlighten everyone on what the the actually correlation is between time and AP in terms of game mechanics.
Well like I said at the start, this is probably going to be a waste of time and not understood by you the actual game mechanics of weapons. As you perceived that there should be a constant direct correlation between the two and I think you have kinda proven my point, you cant accept the fact that it isn't as you want it to be. But you got your answer, speed of the weapon does not affect the initial AP cost directly. AP cost has as much to do with the amount of damage per shot/hit and skill level required to use the weapon, than it does time. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 01:47, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Page Locked[]

Is there some reason this page is locked? I would like to edit the special attack info.--The Gunny 02:02, October 31, 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand whats going on... When I play fallout new vegas, the mauler move in vats with oh baby, knock knock or any other two handed weapon won't knock down enemies. But when I restart the game, the glitch is gone...but then after the next battle it happens again. Can anyone help me?(174.138.219.14 01:10, March 31, 2012 (UTC))

Very high item Hp?[]

The notes section says you get this weapon almost broken but can still use it a lot because of the high item hp. But the Knock Knock can only survive around 550 strikes from full condition? that's really low item hp right? for example, only 100 strikes more than chance's knife, just because this is a strong weapon you need FEWER hits to kill enemies but the item HP it's still low. Can someone remove that part from notes section? it's locked to unregistered users.
