How come nobody's added any images yet? There are some mighty beautiful ones in the Official Xbox Magazine, April 2010. Page 50 starts with a nice display of already-known info, but we've got pictures of a Scoped, Modified Bolt (Match?), and an extended magazine. Josrence44 13:28, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Adding article scans is not allowed. Ausir(talk) 13:40, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Well, that sucks. :( Josrence44 23:01, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Removal of info

How come the information I added was removed? Josrence44 02:49, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Add the bog standard version of the rifle for the picture http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/File:HuntingRifleStandard.jpg Mr Habberdasher 20:30, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Because you're an idiot that wants a scope and a supressor on everything, therefore removing all challenge in the game. Nitty Tok. 03:57, May 23, 2010 (UTC)
Even though I agree with you that was kinda harsh, nitty. Deus 11:56, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Aiming

In fallout 3, there didn't look like there was any discernible sights for the gun, and Obsidion says that you can now aim down sights. So, is it just gonna be very difficult but the reward is higher than average damage, or something of the sorts? Volk Zadovsky 19:33, May 5, 2010 (UTC)

If you look at the picture on it's page you can see a sight on the gun half way down the barrel. Shadowrunner56 21:33, May 5, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, Thanks, it was kinda hard to make out unless you went to a ridiculous resolution. Volk Zadovsky 22:22, May 5, 2010 (UTC)

Custom Bolt

Probably obvious but I'll say it anyway. I generally think that the addition of a "custom bolt" will make the rifle cycle as fast as the unique Hunting Rifle Ol Painless in Fallout 3. Anybody thinking the same thing? Draco122 19:20, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

I'm thinking the same thing, but if you add features to a weapon.... does that mean you could name them? I'm sure they have to get a different name, otherwise they would just stack with normal ones. plz let us name our guns! I'd name it "Head-shot" or "bulls-eye" XD Silverfox6000 23:56, September 30, 2010 (UTC)

If they do allow you to name weapons, it'll likely be similar to naming weapons/armor in Oblivion. You choose the mod and a name for it. YuriKaslov-M1911 small Yuri Kaslov 00:02, October 1, 2010 (UTC)
I really hope they do that, i have always wanted to name my weapons. i loved it in oblivion and i would love to see that feature in New Vegas Silverfox6000 00:37, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

found a website that says you can't name your weapons.... i don't know if this is true or not but here is the link http://awesomegameblog.com/1683/not-underestimating-the-new-in-fallout-new-vegas --Silverfox6000 21:05, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Hunting rifle uses .308 ammo

Apparently it uses .308 as J.E. Sawyer said this himself in a thread on the Beth forums

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1112337-m1911-and-45-ammo-someone-show-me/page__view__findpost__p__16320644

Hopefully that'll mean it's more powerful. It seemed really anemic in FO3. --99.153.194.20 15:44, September 25, 2010 (UTC)
The hunting rifle was just fine in Fallout 3. Esp. Ol' Painless. Three shots to the head on a super mutant and it was down. Then you could pick up 5 or 6 bullets off of the corpse. Great ammo saver/getter.--HelpMeRhonda213 15:02, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

they might be giving the more powerful weapons harder to find ammo, that way you won't just waste it on every bad guy or raider you see. makes things tougher i suppose. hey at least weapons like the lever-action and the repeater from fallout 3 won't use different rounds for strange reasons. i mean that was just odd--Silverfox6000 19:20, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

APs way too high?

The Hunting Rifle in Fallout 3 required only 25 APs per shot in VATS. Now it goes all the way up to 60. It's not quite adequate, being a "bolt action" weapon and all. Maybe an official patch will rebalance it a bit? --Dairydian 10:53, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

The AP is higher because of the new weapon system. There are now tiers of similar weapons, and the lowest tier of semi-automatic rifles is the Varmint rifle. Then it's the Cowboy Repeater, then the Hunting rifle. you should have noticed that when choosing a weapon it has a symbol and a number which refers to the skill used and how high your skill should be to use the weapon adequately. --205.155.154.172 15:47, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Scratch that, the Trail carbine has only an AP cost of 21. I now have no idea why the Hunting rifle is 60. --205.155.154.172 16:00, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Iron-sights misaligned

I noticed that the scope-less rifle model is misaligned when aiming with iron-sights, the iron-sight model (along with the rifle) are positioned a bit to the upper-left of the impact point. See for yourself by pointing your cross-hair at a silhouette such as a symbol on a billboard and repeatedly tap the aim button, notice that the iron-sights positions itself compared to the on-screen cross-hair (be sure to have at least 50 i Guns skill to see the clear difference).
