Article quality and relevance[]
I just stumbled upon this article. I was rather surprised to see it, since Herbert Hoover does not play much (any) role in the Fallout games. In fact, I think the only mention of him is in relation to Hoover Dam which was named after him. I would have expected this article to have only a brief explanation of his role with the dam and a link to the general wikipedia page for general information instead of trying to make a mini-bio here.
Moreover, this article is rather poorly written with many grammatical errors, right down to the fact that it is presented as one giant run-on paragraph. I would argue it is not up to the standards of the other pages on this site Jaguara333 (talk) 04:09, December 29, 2014 (UTC)
- Since you noted the seeming multitude of errors on the page, I would question why no attempt has been made to correct those errors. The article is valid and falls within the scope of the logical history project. Since Hoover's name is in the Fallout world, he becomes relevant (although not heavily relevant). But overall, I would agree that there could be some improvements made in writing quality, but more importantly the neutrality of the article. I don't actually recall any references to Herbert Hoover himself within the game, but of course the dam named after him is a very important aspect of the game. Why try to replicate (poorly) what the general wiki page already has - a summary of Hoover's life and accomplishments...none of which are relevant in any way to the the game itself. I think his only relevance is that the dam was named after him, and the fact that he was a president of the US. Other than that the rest is not relevant, and as I pointed out, is already well taken care of on the general wikipedia article which could just be linked to. That is why I only made one edit which hit me in the face, but would not waste time trying to clean up an article that imho should just be a couple of lines and a link. If it was me ... this page would look something like this: "Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964) was the 31st President of the United States. He was president during the construction of the Hoover Dam, which was controversially named in his honor. For more information of his life and achievements please see the general wikipedia article." Possible further additions would be noting that he was president during the great depression and/or a single line general note about his humanitarian work in providing international food aid...but I don't see why we need extensive details about those points since they are not relevant to the game.
