GOAT[]

This method of listing all possible combinations of answers on the GOAT is bound for failure.

Ignoring the last question, there 9 questions with 4 answers a pop. This means there are 4^9 possible answer sheets - 262,144 outcomes. That's a lot of testing.

I am very well aware that this is a very inefficent method for testing, and I'm sure theres a simpler method used by the game for determining the outcome. HOWEVER, Until the GECK is released we have no way of peering into dialogue and dialogue conditions, so there is no way to tell what these variables are. So until we can gain the means to determine the actual variables for the GOAT, this very inefficient method will have to suffice. --Rylasasin2008 01:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

EDIT: The Geck has been released, and the results section of the page will undergo reconstruction. --Rylasasin2008 07:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I was bored at one point and tested the goat out. Apparently it adds up the skills, the one which is chosen the most often becomes the main skill, which is used for determining what "job". The 2 runners up are then added as tagged skills. You can use this to determine which dialog option does what by seeing what the job becomes (3+ picks becomes the main skill). It's unnecessary to list all the combinations, just what each answer affects.

Barter=Vault Chaplain

Big Guns=Laundry Cannon Operator

Energy Weapons=Pedicurist

Explosives=Waste Management Specialist

Lockpick=Vault Loyalty Inspector

Medicine=Clinical Test Subject

Melee Weapons=Fry Cook

Science=Pipboy Programmer

Small Guns=Tattoo Artist

Sneak=Shift Supervisor

Speech=Marriage Councilor

Repair=Maintenance

Unarmed=Head of Vault Security

unfortunately theres no way to prove this just yet. In fact after the test and before talking to mr. brotch, I tried editing my tags VIA the console. It had no effect. I will try to edit it just before the test is over (on the overseer question), but I doubt it will make any difference. --Rylasasin2008 19:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

There is a way to view the script right now, download FOMM, load the fallout3.esm in the fallout version of the TESsnip (script editor/compiler) and check out the G.O.A.T. script. Matter of figuring out what it's name is in the thousands of scripts in the game though. --65.93.2.122 14:48, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok. Used FO3DUMP to extract all the scripts, it's under CG03 (character generation, 3rd quest) in WRLD. Search for Question01 for the main goat script.

Questions (and what they increment by 1)

1: science, speech, melee, sneak.

2: melee, speech, medicine, science

3: speech, unarmed, sneak, (NOTHING)

4: explosives, big guns, melee, unarmed

5: small guns, barter, big guns, explosives

6: lockpick, barter+explosives, energy weapons, repair

7: small guns, medicine, barter, energy weapons

8: barter, small guns, sneak, medicine

9: repair, explosives, sneak, lockpick

Oh, and question 10 is: elseif question == 10 ; do nothing endif

The game stores the top 3 picks under shorts called "skillFirst" "valueFirst" (second, third), and passes skillFirst to Brotch's script to have him announce the player's job. The 3 skills are tagged, while skillFirst determines what job the player has.

Skills are 1) barter, 2) bigguns, 3) energy weapons, 4) explosives, 5) lockpick, 6) medicine, 7) melee weapons, 8) repair, 9) science, 10) small guns, 11) sneak, 12) speech, 13) unarmed

The different jobs and Brotch's speech are as follows:

1 text: They say the G.O.A.T. never lies... According to this, you're slated to be the next vault chaplain. God help us all.

2 text: Well, according to this, you're in line to be trained as a Laundry Cannon Operator. First time for everything, indeed.

3 text: It's nice to know I can still be surprised. Pedicurist! I might have guessed manicurist or even masseuse, but apparently you're a foot person.

4 text: It says here you're perfectly suited for a career as a Waste Management Specialist. A specialist, mind you, not just a dabbler. Congratulations!

5 text: Huh. "Vault Loyalty Inspector"... I thought that had been phased out decades ago. Well, sounds like a job right up your alley, hmm?

6 text: Interesting. "Clinical Test Subject"... sounds like something you should excel at. I guess you and your dad will be working together.

7 text: Looks like the diner's going to get a new Fry Cook. I'll just say this once: hold the mustard, extra pickles. Ha ha ha.

8 text: Thank goodness. We're finally getting a new Jukebox Technician. That thing hasn't worked right since old Joe Palmer passed.

9 text: Well, well. Pip-Boy Programmer, eh? Stanley will finally have someone to talk shop with.

10 text: Huh. I wonder who will be brave enough to be your first customer as the vault's new Tattoo Artist? I promise it won't be me.

11 text: Apparently you're management material. You're going to be trained as a Shift Supervisor. text: Could I be talking to the next Overseer? Stranger things have happened.

12 text: Wow. Wow. Says here you're going to be the vault's Marriage Counselor. text: Almost makes me want to get married, just to be able to avail myself of your services.

13 text: I always thought you'd have a career in professional sports. You're the new vault Little League coach! Congratulations.

14 text: Looks like you'll be putting your ... physical talents to good use as the vault's new Masseuse.

(13 & 14 are both unarmed, but are male vs female jobs)

Brotch's script is in SCPT while the actual job dialogs are in DIAL/GREETING/INFOs. That's about it. --76.67.158.95 22:23, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Should I/someone go ahead and merge the above information into the main article? Alephenon 15:04, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Looking at the script, it seems that the Masseuse option is unobtainable. The masseuse option doesn't check gender - it just looks for a non-existant skill (14), if I'm reading it right.

The first time I was playing this game, and I was listening to the last question, I was hoping that I would have several choices of who *I* thought was "the most important person in Vault 101," who kept me safe and to whom I owed so much. I was thinking about this while Brotch was still reading the question, and I wish I could have picked James instead of the Overseer (just as a bit of irony). Item...?[]

May someone explain why this is listed under Fallout 3 Items? Littleicyman666 01:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)littleicyman666

The test is a physical piece of paper, and therefore an item. you just can't obtain it.--98.197.37.10 04:32, September 3, 2012 (UTC)

Undefined?[]

I didn't get any of the ones listed in the article, I got "Well, you answered all the questions, thats more than I expected of you..." And I got the option to pick "Wow! Thats just what I always wanted :D!" Or some other assorted lunacy... Didn't really make sense... And does anyone see the reference to Oblivion in that during the tutorial, someone says what you think you should be, and lets you choose the class? :P Now I know they are both by Bethesda, but... well, its funny :P

Is your intellingence below 4??.. I think it may have to do sth with it.. Like low intelligence characters on FO 1 and 2 (or maybe just 2 I dont know) Having low intelligence has an effect with certain dialogue. ---NightPhoenix

Not a reference, just their style for free-roam open-ended RPG games. It's there to help those intimidated or unfamiliar with the skills/classes to find a potentially suitable choice, while letting those who know be what they want. Plus everyone is probably curious to see what they get atleast once. Miumaru 01:12, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

Question #8 "My Pal" picture[]

This could be a reference to the "My Pal" photo that the dead vault boy in the illustration for the "betrayer" karma rank from Fallout 1/2 was holding. Should this be in the article?

Overseer?[]

I once was told that I was going to be the overseer, but it's not mentioned here. Does anyone know how this happens? —Preceding unsigned comment added by CAW4 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

You mean the shift supervisor? The answers you get don't mean anything and never happen in-game. --Macros 01:21, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Q5[]

I know this sounds like a horrid pun, but I think the tea may be to do with the 'splash' damage of explosives. - RASIC 15:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh ya. Spoon 15:37, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Think I should add that to the article, I mean it's more accurate than the gunpowder tea thing - RASIC 17:02, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Then go ahead, Mr. Not-quite-perfectly-sane Samual X Spoon 20:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Alrighty, feel free to edit to make it sound better, btw it's Samuel, not Samual. - RASIC 20:43, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Ahh... fussy are we? Spoon 20:44, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry if the asking seems like a suck up, it's not meant to be I just like having someones backing before I make a change so it won't be deleted within 5 seconds. - RASIC 21:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Well it was deleted, but I don't when it was so that means it wasn't done within 5 secs of putting it there. - RASIC 07:31, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry about it. Spoon 07:40, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Q#10 - What's going on?[]

I keep seeing something about Question 10 determing which of the tag skills will be the highest or what Brotch announces your job as being getting removed and replaced. I'm assuming I should revert the anon's edit after viewing the revision history, but could someone explain this to me a bit more so I understand what exactly the comment is about? Great Mara 20:02, March 29, 2011 (UTC)

As far as I am aware #10 means nothing, the fact that Goth also removed this statement is good enough for me, Goth has a habit of removing BS. EDIT; just checked the script and indeed #10 does nothing at all. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 20:21, March 29, 2011 (UTC)
That's what is confusing me though. The anon is the one removing the statement and the reverts have been adding the statement back to the article. Great Mara 20:31, March 29, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, my mistake. Got my reverts backwards. Avatar's right. The question does nothing.--Gothemasticator 20:39, March 29, 2011 (UTC)
lol, seem your not the only one who got there reverts mixed up, seems I did also. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 22:59, March 29, 2011 (UTC)

How To Answer The GOAT[]

I uploaded An image showing How to answer the Goat. The Numbers on the Graph represent the answer number. So like for Question 1 You have the one Question and the 4 answers. so if I were to answer the question with answer #2 then the Skill Would be speech. you can fin the image Media:GOAT Results.jpg--DarkForther 02:04, February 16, 2012 (UTC)

G.O.A.T. concept.[]

Just to get a general consensus, but the concept for the G.O.A.T. was taken from the Simpson's right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk5ywruPoKE —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.60.192.200 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
