Isn't Food Sanitizer just providing 20% more HP, instead of cleanse effect?

The Pipboy ad says it's supposed to dirridiate your food and give it better effect, but mine doesn't seem to do anything (besides maybe healing more HP, not sure how many HP food is supposed to heal you). I'm definitely still getting rads from all food. Maybe I'm bugged

I'm getting radiation and the same amount of HP from food. So I'd say this is bugged as of 1.0. -88.65.69.251 22:00, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

The in-game dialog doesn't say anything about removing radiation from the food. It says it sanitizes the food making it healthier to eat. --MadDawg2552 17:15, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Only relevant to modders, but the Food Sanitizer doesn't have an actual effect, rather every single food item has two Restore Health effects, one normal and one which provides more health conditional on the Food Sanitizer being in the player's inventory.

comment[]

I dunno if it's important enough to put on the article, but I thought it was interesting that the food sanitizer adds at least 1hp to all food items, so food items with less than 5 hp gain end up with a more than 20% increase. In particular, gumdrops and bubblegum go from 1 to 2hp (100% increase). -HughJackman 20:18, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

The same thing can be noted with the Swift Learner perk. Actions that reward very little experience will be increased by more than 10 percent by one rank of this perk. - James Andrew Walker

It's called roundig up. Since Fallout 3 does not use decimals for health and xp, it has to round it for it to work. Instead of rounding down and thus giving no bonus, they made it be nice and round up and let us reap the (miniscule) benefit. Miumaru 17:17, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Limited uses?[]

I've never heard of this item having limited uses until now, nor is there anything in the GECK to suggest that it might disappear. I'm removing this reference again until and unless someone can point to evidence that it does eventually disappear. --Kris User Hola 13:15, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

It will cease to function in the 360 version, and even gives a message when it's depleted (and subsequently disappears in the basic version of the game). If I can find my card reader for my camera I will take a screenshot, and even retest it on my latest playthrough (since I havent used it at all since getting the add ons or patching the game). Mictlantecuhtli 13:24, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
If you remember the exact wording of the message I can search the GECK for it and see where it's referenced. --Kris User Hola 13:32, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
Alright just tried eating a few thousand consumables (I am a packrat in the game, and pick-up every item regardless of value, weight, etc), it still functions normally. Though when my friends and I first started playing the basic 360 version it'd give the "Sanitizer no longer active" message and then it'd be gone from our inventory (usually after eating alot of food at early levels instead of using stimpaks). It's the entire reason we never used it after that and sold it, or stored it away. Mictlantecuhtli 13:36, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
I usually sell it 'cause it's fairly valuable and I rarely resort to food for healing; even without the outcast collection quest I typically have enough stimpaks. That message is shown whenever the sanitizer is removed from your inventory by any means, even player-initated (put it in a container, drop it, sell it). I'm very confident that what you encountered was a glitch. --Kris User Hola 13:45, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
I had just started playing the game, and didn't know stimpaks and caps were so easy to come by. I still carry human flesh around and eat it, but that's only a roleplay thing (still can't bring myself to actually take the cannibal perk though), and I always store them when I am trimming down on weight. Buggy in New Vegas[]

The Food Sanitizer stops giving its bonus to Bubblegum and Junk Food if you carry more than one in your inventory at a time. Also, at 100 Survival, the Junk Food goes from 3(5s) to 6(5s) in the inventory screen, but does not provide 30hp total. Instead it seems to provide 18 hp at a rate of 6(3s). I would create a bug section, but I don't know how to code it into the proper format. - Kamov

I have been trying to get the "Hack the Mojave" achievement/trophy and my Health from Food stat in General Stats is not appearing! Does anyone know how to fix and if it affects you getting the achievement/trophy ?
