I have been browsing on-line more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It's beautiful price enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content as you probably did, the internet will probably be a lot more helpful than ever before.

Firelance ammo and difficult extraction.Luck set at 10 Level 2

Anchorage War memorial.A lot of ammo can fall into the bottom the Potomac river and be very difficult to find. Drowing is all too easy!...... Minefield.Ammo can fall over the cliff into minefild and be very hard to find even with Dogmeat...... WKML Highest rate of Firelance appearance encountered here so far at the WKML broadcast station. Two appearances on first visit. However, due to the height of the three towers the Firelance event is forced to occur at a high altitude and the scattering effect of the ammo may spread the ammo over as much as 6 acres. Can by very diffucilt to find all 24 cells in the rocks even with dogmeat. The cells may overlap at least two Raiders and/or viscous dog territory. Cells can fall well past the Drainage Grate to Sealed Cistern containing the Bobblehead Explosives.... SUPER DUPER MART...Possibly one of the harder events to duplicate on the XBox360; It took me over 100 attempts before the Firelance showed up(however my experience on the PS3 has been better. Having encountered the Mart less than 100 times and finding the firelance twice). Leaving vault 101 travel the road though Springvale and head for the Super Duper Mart, arriving 100 seconds after leaving the vault. Entering the Mart from the Springvale Road end the Firelance event will appear 10 paces before the Stop sign on the right and the ammo and FL will drop into the car park.(if you want to save for this event , save the game at least 40 paces before the stop sign or any randon event will trigger and you will have to go back to the vault and start again.) You will need the 10mm Pistol and ammo from vault 101 as you will encounter 2 raiders, the female will most likely find the FL before you do and you will have to kill her to get it but not before she gets a hit in on you.If you don`t pick it up quick enough her mate will get it and you will be a become a pile of burning ash. You may find some ammo hangs up in the air or some may fall short into the shallow Potomac and you will need dogmeat to find it.ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 07:02, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Info

June 25, 2009 12:40 p.m. Fallout time: I'm Level 5 and I am at the Minefield. I made my way up the slope to the right of the water tower, disarming the mines as I went. When I disarmed all the mines I saved the game. It took about 20 reloads but eventually a trail of smoke followed by a green flash of light appeared in the sky and alien ammo fell everywhere. The first time I did this I was at a level high enough that there were two yao guai nearby, the ammo spread out all over and i could not find the Firelance so I used Dogmeat. The second time at level 5 there were two viscous dogs nearby, and the ammo was more concentrated and the Firelance was along the path to the right of the water tower.216.196.160.129 04:06, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Gamertag: Field Medic XBOX 360+++++TRIAL 2: The Earliest you can see the Firelance event is LEVEL 2 at 48 watch seconds after leaving Vault 101. Leave Vault 101 at 08.00am Vault time and run to the Dutch Barn at the rear and above the Vault. This takes 48 seconds and you will arrive at 08.45am Vault time. Save at 17 paces before reaching the barn. The Firelance entry and event can occur at between visit 1 and visit 30 and can occur at 8.45am Vaultime.Look up and see a cloud of smoke, the cells and Firelance raining down to the sound of falling metal. Some ammo may fall inside the barn and the Firelance may be almost impossible to spot on the rough terrain and you would need to go and get dogmeat to be able to find it. The Firleance may get caught up on the roof of the barn in which case shoot it down, or it may fall into the barn and get wedged between the beams on the stair or it may fall outside. Douglas Mills 1000hrsFallout3. ...Midsummers day ..21st June 2009..UK..+++++++ Trial 1: You can get the Firelance EVERY TIME you play the game from the beginning. Proof: After leaving the Vault go STRAIGHT to Megaton+++++ Go straight to Craterside Supplies and see Moira Brown ++++ Take the Minefield task++++ Walk from Magaton to Minefield+++++Go into the Gibson House on the left++++Immediately leave the Gibson House+++++.SAVE location standing outside the Gibson House+++++Go nowhere else++++ Walk up the steep path at the side of the Gibson House towards the water tower++++++ If the FIRELANCE event is goung to occur on that walk, there will be a sonic boom as you pass the Pylon with the wire hanging down,4 paces actually, and in front up in the sky, will be a trail of puffy smoke from left to right, followed to by two explosions over the top of the Water Tower. You will see a spiral of blueish light that vanishes into a spot, followed by an explosion a short distance away above the tower. The FIRELANCE and AMMO will fall in and arround the compound which will become RAD 1 for a few seconds. You may see some bits fall over the cliff to your right. Some may or may not fall over the cliff into Minefield.Depending up the event, the placings of the gun and ammo are random and you may need Dogmeat to find either all the ammo or the Firelance since it falls over rocky places and can get hidden.Unlike the Alien Blaster the Firelance is undamaged and brand new. If the event does not occur on this trip you can reload from outside the Gibson house and will find a variety of up to 100 different events that will occur at random at the rear of the water tower compound. From a Giant Rad scorpions with a Fridge, to raiders, to a pack of savage dogs, to 3 Talon mercs,to A female doctor who will help,, to Ben Canning buried up to his waste, to 4 raiders beating up one raider who if you go to help then attacks you, lol, to A crippled Death Claw with a dead Wastelander, to a group of Zombies standing round an oil drum fire, 4 mole rats, and a number of other combinations as well .maybe over 100 in all. But one of these earlier events will include the FIRELANCE EVENT during your trip to the water tower. You can get the FIRELANCE event in every game from the start as long as you don`t leave it too long or the event may occur on its own somewhere else and others may pick it up. Ammo appearance best seen at night if you want to see the bluish swirl of the ammo appearing. Doug Mills 1000hrs Fallout3 19th June 2009 UK.Hope this is of some help+++++++++++++ Saving the Firelance event and variations: If you can hit the save button before the the two explosions and replay the event you will find that the ammo spins out of a blue green swirl , and the Firelance out of an explosion. Every time you replay the scene you will get different results. Sometimes the Ammo falls over an area of 40 paces by 40 paces including falling into Minefield, and sometimes it falls onto a small tight area of open ground just outside of the tower compound .It all depends on the variable height of the explosions that trigger the fall and the variations in the distance between the spawns.Sometimes the Firelance spawns ahead of the Ammo and sometimnes behind. sometimes above and sometimes below. These are all variables. This causes considerable variables in where the Firelance will fall in relation to the ammo and large variable in the area of ground covered by the ammo.I had one occassion where the blue green swirl was at a greater height than usual and the ammo sprayed all over the slope and into Minefield. This would cause some observers to find it very difficvult to locate all the ammo or the gun not at all. Doug Mills 1000hrs Fallout3 20th June 2009 UK.+++++++++++

I also got it at super duper mart at lvl. 2. The guy who had it took down three raiders and a dog. Is this just a glitch or is it supposed to happpen?

From my experience, those raiders are set to spawn there, so my theory is this: the Super-Duper Mart itself is set to be a random encounter location, so it's possible for the Firelance to drop there as you come within the appropriate distance of it. The Raiders out front are usually pretty poorly equipped. Due to NPC AI, my guess is that when such an awesome gun falls out of the sky near a thug with a crap pistol, his instinct is to pick it up and use it for himself. Not really a bug, just a logical chain of if/then scenarios based upon some things we know as facts.--VwllssWndr 23:30, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Wall... of... text... too large... can't... read... *hurgh-blah* --TheREALBloodscar 08:03, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I have recieved it twice, once in each of my games, both within a stone's throw of power plants on opposite corners of the map. Once was at a very early level, level 6, the other was level 20. PhoenixTril 09:03, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I got firelance at an extremely early level (2) as a NPC had one one him (outside the super-duper mart), so it is a random event of some sort. The event also includes a scattering of ammo in the area, in the form of singles on the ground (in this situation at least). I have a save file where I have the items and my level is 3ish, but I do not believe that I have one of me looting it, or directly before finding it. I may have a save file directly before exiting the vault however, and can see if the event will re-trigger. Eshru 11:30, 7 November 2008 (UTC) Saw the comment about luck, and thought I'd reinforce it, as the character I rolled that stumbled across it at level two had 8 or so luck. Just got a Firelance falling on me right from the sky with a pile of alien energy cells near Meresti Trainyard. Wohooo :)--Merinid 17:38, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I got the Firelance, when I travelled North/East of Minefield, first encountered The Roach King, after killing him/her I then travelled onwards, I saw this brilliant blue flash in the sky above a destroyed highway and I legged it down there, to find the weapon with Dogmeat by telling him to find me a weapon. --Three Dog's understudy 10:18, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I was about 3 klicks away from the Republic of Dave, headed there, when I saw a huge green explosion off in the distance. A few alien power cells in groups of two (2) came down around me, so I hauled ass over to the site of the flash. When I got there(Chaste Acres Dairy Farm) however, I found more Alien Power Cells, but not the Firelance. There was a significant Raider presence there, though I'm not sure if that is random or a scripted part of the game, and more Cells scattered about the barn and bushes. I wiped out the Raiders, looted all their bodies, and still couldn't find the Firelance. The only place that I can think of where it may have gotten stuck or landed is atop the grain silo or the barn, both of which are inaccessible because I'm on X360. Does this mean I can't get it anymore? -J, 00:39, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'll phrase it better. Dogmeat can get it from inaccessable places, just send him off and 'wait'. Fat Man Spoon 00:44, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Ohh! My bad, I erased your comment accidently. I thought something was up when I saw Fat Man Spoon under my comment. Whoops! Thanks, I'll try again with Dogmeat; I didn't realize he could pull stunts like that. XD

When I was at the Super-duper Mart, Jericho and I just took out about five raiders. I headead to Jericho and asked him to trade equipment. While trading I noticed he had firelance on him. It was the oddest thing cause after seeing it I came to the Vault on my computer and looked it up and it said you can only get it on the pc but I have a PS3 and I got it it is just so akward.

--- I just got the Firelance earlier today. I was on my way to Fort Independence coming from Vault 101 and I heard a large explosion. I looked up into the sky and saw a trail of black smoke. I followed the trail down to a somewhat secluded are beneath a rockline/cliff. I found 16 Alien Blaster cells but I couldn't find the Firelance. I then waited until nighttime so the cells would glow to find easier, and I brought Dogmeat with me and told him to find me a weapon. He brought me back teh Firelance =]

damage calculation

Tested in game with NPC with no armor: with 100 skill and says i got a critical hit. forceav health to standardize health. getav health to get the health. Results: 1. better crit only = 200 damage + burning for 10 damage. 2. pyro only = 200 + burning for 10 damage 3. pyro and better crit perk. 240damage + burning for 10 damage. 4. with sneak crit= 480+ burning for 10 damage.

with 1, 2, and 3. you can see that pyro does not apply to critical damage, nor the burning. Therefore the damage formula: damage=sneakattack((base damage*pyro)+(critical damage*better crit)) +burning in numbers: 2((80*1.5)+(80*1.5))+2(5seconds) = 480 Numbers add up and I am happy. I haven't tested those 2 perks for other weapons yet, but may be on a rainy day.

-I moved the following from the main page, since it doesn't seem relevant. If you feel can still replace the fatman, go ahead and move it back. 240 is hardly a replacement. Though, it is still an awesome weapon.

making it a viable emergency weapon replacement for the Fat Man if your Energy Weapons is high enough, since it's significantly lighter, you normally have more ammo for it, it fires faster, it is easier to aim, and you will not accidentally kill yourself or any allies with it. Meresti Trainyard

  • Not at Meresti Trainyard. I saw the article this morning and noticed that someone said it was there.. Checked just now and it is not and noticed that someone has already corrected the wiki. Thanks!
  • Actually, it does spawn at this location. I was surprised (and caught off guard) when I was entering the train yard for the 1st time and head the event explosion. I still need to locate the weapon itself, but I did find 21 of the 24 power cells! (I've checked on top of the trains - to the best of my ability - and even the roof of 1 of the buildings, but no luck.)--71.105.97.14 16:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
  • Confirmed that it can happen here. It is a random enounter, and it's never a sure thing - my first playthrough I never found it. On my second playthrough, I didn't hear the explosion but noticed an Alien Power Cell on the ground just inside the Meresti fence. Having read the Wiki article, I searched diligently and found it had fallen on top of the concrete roof over the train station gate. Getting up there involved stacking barrels and jumping repeatedly for half an hour, but it eventually worked. Keep your eyes open, guys. 216.254.28.72 21:37, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Easter Egg Origins

This is probably an Easter Egg related to the original Post-Nuclear Adventure game, Wasteland, which was Fallout 1's ideological predecessor. Back then you had paragraph books that came with the games so the gamemakers could have verbose narratives without using disk space. Half of the paragraphs were real, the other half entirely fictional, and partially followed an entirely incorrect plotline where the heroes went to Mars and fought a war using weapons called Firelances. It seems reasonable that the Firelance here is a reference back to that original game's original Easter Egg. Happy hunting, and may your Uzi never jam!

So... why don't you put that in the Easter Eggs? Fourthgeartapped 04:03, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

NPCs Carrying Firelances

Are the NPCs that are being found with Firelances (one note said Enclavers have had it) spawning with the weapon or are they only happening upon the crash-site encounter and picking the weapon up?

I know that NPCs will pick up a weapon if it's an improvement to their current loadout. And since it is very difficult to find parts to repair a Firelance it would be instructive to know what to look for: certain types of NPCs or the crashed UFO random encounter?Antimike 00:06, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

The one I found was picked up by the npc, it was just a raider. Eshru 01:38, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I just picked up my first Firelance off a Talon Company merc. Never saw the "event". --AshRandom 05:17, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Was walking due west of the circular road/cul de sac on the far east end of the map (SE of Corvega Factory), when I heard the crash. After scouring the immediate area, I noticed a lone Enclave soldier in the distance. After he spotted me, the soldier pulled out the Firelance and proceeded to nearly crispify my poor self. At least I didn't have to scour the brush. :)

Firelance vs Alien Blaster

So the unique Firelance does less damage than the normal Alien Blaster? 80 vs 100? Am I missing something there? 208.97.121.178 16:18, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Pyromaniac. --Macros 17:20, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

The Firelance does slightly less direct damage, but has the added effect of igniting the target on fire for a small amount of damage per second. With the Pyromaniac perk, it tends to do more damage than the standard Alien Blaster. The Firelance also has three times the critical hit chance, as 3% versus 1% with the Alien Blaster. Personally, I get a critical with almost every shot to the head, even with low-level and low-skilled characters.

Raiders Packing Heavy

In a recent run through the Super Duper Mart I stumbled upon something weird... Every single raider had one of these weapons on his or her body, each with one power cell. So at this very moment I have 14 Firelance weapons...I'm not complaining, this is a great thing for me but it is extremely odd. Munsterd Oslam

Wow,awesome, reminds me of the time when multiple firelance encounters hapened at once for me,i was standing on a cliff near canterbury commons, when i saw a ton of the UFO'S crashing into the ground,so i searched the immediate area and now have 1152 alien powers cells and 17 firelances, wow i never thought spawning glitches were any good Werewolfhell 17:54, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

unfortunate

i have tryed every possible locations to find this goddamn weapon, but i didn't. I'M level 20 and i have not even came close to finding this encounter. would some people please tell me the place they got it, their luck #, and their level. MUCH APPRECIATED

Deathclaw Sanctuary luck 10, lvl 14. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 04:53, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I got my Firelance at level 2 (with 7 luck) in the barn right behind Vault 101. I saved before approaching the barn and reloaded the game several times. (I was trying for the Deathclaw Gauntlet schematic, decided the Firelance was better in the long run when it came up instead.)--VwllssWndr 04:10, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Level is irrelevant, the list of locations are listed and it WIll spawn at any ONE location. If it still doesn't spawn then I would have recommended to search every site as you have done, but I don't think you looked very hard. It may have just glitched and got stuck in the sky or clipped through the ground. Unless there's another glitch, you will never get the Firelance on that profile.

no, believe me i tried so hard that i at least spent over 20 hours total on all locations.(there is 160 locations which means i spent 45 minutes at each one)

Outside of the mechanist lair (robot repair center) I found sevaral alien powers cells outside the front door, followed all of them until my marker turned squared (as it does when you look at a item you can pick up) eventually i found the firelance. By that time i had around 15 power cells but there might have been more if i looked around abit more. --Al bukhari

I was walking south of megaton under some broken bridge. I saw the crash and rushed to the area all excited. i found 6 cells and i could see the firelance on some high rock or bridge fragment.....but as far as i know, there was no way to get up there...only time i've ever seen the random event-Tgrady247(patched 360)

You should have shot it with a rifle, things go flying when you do that. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 12:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

What if I totally missed the encounter. Back when I was maybe level 10 I was wandering around and experienced what I now know to be the encounter but I have no idea where it was. Am I SOL? This kinda sucks, I was trying to get as many unique weapons as possible, if not all of them.

Chaste Acres Dairy Farm, Luck 6, Level 21 - BE WARNED! I got the event; saw the flash and had Alien Power Cells rain down on me, but never found the darn Firelance. It might've gotten stuck atop one of the buildings there, but there's no way up, so I have no way of confirming it. Repeated reloads have yielded nothing.

It happened for me between Chaste Acres Dairy Farm and Old Olney right at the Red Rocket enclosure, next to the truck with all the Nuka Cola crates inside. Level 20, 6 luck. Firelance ended up sitting right in the trunk of one of the cars.

UFO Random Encounter

I think the encounter is more than just luck dependent, it's quite possibly level dependent too. At level 9 with ten luck I'm unable to get it to occur after 200 attempts in a random encounter location where I've received it before. Lowest level I've managed it so far is 14. Has anyone gotten it earlier than this? Looking for confirmation. (Xbox360, unpatched). Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 06:33, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Not level dependent! Been confirmed by many users as having been triggered at very low levels. So if you haven't seen it, you're just unlucky ;) Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 19:01, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

It's the very definition of "random". --MadDawg2552 19:14, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ LEVEL 3 Luck set at 10: Went to the Moira task Mine field and instead of walking into the town and mines walked up the steep slope towards the water tower above the town. A loud overhead bang was heard and a light hole appeared in the clouds. A firelace fell into the water tower compound and ammunition fell around the general area to within 30 yards radius of the tower .Some fell over the cliff and into the town and I had to get Dogmeat to go and fetch them as they were in difficult positions. I recovered 24 single cells = 24 shots The Firelance as found was Dam 51 Wg 2 Val 749 CND 100% EFFECTS HP-2 2(5secs).It is more powerful than the Alien blaster I found later. Apart from turning the target to a pile of ash there is also a burst of flame that lasts after the target has been turned into ash. I tried it out on 3 raiders and 2 mutants and it turned 3 raiders and two mutants into ash using up the HP on VATS and 5 shots. The Firelance is very fragile and damages just by firing it. Firing all 20 shots will reduce the Firelance to Dam 45 Val 420 CND 75%

1000 hrs Fallout. XBOX 360 May 19th 2009 UK. The Firelance event does not re-trigger upon reloading the Minefield scene at level 3 Luck 10 ..Instead I get a variation of Mutants, Rad scoprions, Raiders, Mole rats,Talon Mercs, or nothing spawning by the water tower. 1000hrs Fallout 3 XBOX 360 May 24th 2009 UK. Does anybody know if there are other falls of blue ammo from the sky or is there only one Firelance and one ammo event?

Mine keeps dissapeering from my inventory then respawns where i first shot it :(

Dogmeat question

I had the event happen to me at Temple of the Union. So far, I have found almost all of the cells (only missing three), but I have yet to find the weapon itself. Query: Is it safe to fast-travel away from this location, get Dogmeat from my home, and bring him back to find the Firelance? Will it still be there? Or do I have to agonizingly and manually search every inch of this very visually busy area? --PwnzerfaustMonk 10:25, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, its safe to leave that area, the weapon will not vanish. Only problem that u can run into is the fact, that the weapon could be stuck on some building / object and is out of reach. If u play on PC, u can enter the console and type TCL. This command will toggle clip on/off, so u can walk in any direction thru all objects. Youtube1smaller CryonBrion (Talk) 10:36, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the assurance! I travelled away, got Dogmeat, came back, and he found it like it was nothing (damn thing was hidden JUST underneath a little piece of rubble). I play on the 360, so if I couldn't use Dogmeat, I probably would have shot myself before long. :P --PwnzerfaustMonk 10:48, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Forced Encounter

Ok, I've been trying to force a firelance encounter next to the vault 101 barn and the jalbert brothers D sight. I've reloaded dozens of times and still no luck. Is there a lower % chance for this encounter to happen compared with other less rewarding encounters? I've cycled through lots of other random encounters, but still no sign of this one. Maybe it's already happened...

That would suck!

If it has, your screwed. If not, try going to the war memorial. Go from megaton to whilm's warf (or something like that) You must approach warf from the south, then from the little deck, save, then jump in the water and swim to memorial. if it doesnt happen, reload, and try again. You cannot have already descovered the war memorial in order for this to work. I tried it for ages and it didnt work, went to bed, woke up, tried again and it worked the first time. with LVL 6 Luck. So keep trying, bear in mind, it doesnt happen at every random encounter location

Specific spawn locations

By that, I mean can we create a list of exactly where the Firelance lands at each location? (I.e., In Meresti, it tends to fall [x]; near the VAPL-84 station it tends to land [y]; etc.)

I've had this event occur at a couple of locations and while I've found the power cells, I have yet to locate the Firelance itself. (Jericho picked it up for me when it happened near the VAPL-84 station. I didn't have a companion when it first appeared, so I went back after I hired him. We got attacked by Raiders and a Yao Guai, and when I checked Jericho's inventory he had the pistol.)

It would be very helpful to have more exact details on where the damn pistol tends to land as it can be almost impossible to spot if it lands in brush, on top of buildings, and so on! Since the system must spawn it based on specific spawn points, it must appear in the same place in the same location - short of bouncing randomly - mustn't it?--71.105.97.14 19:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I had the "event" happen to me at the Anchorage Memorial when I was looking for the Keller Family recordings. I heard the explosion but didn't see it and ran to the "look out" area at the top of the stairs and recieved radiation and saw scattered Alien powercells and then literally ran into the Firelance with it about three feet off of the ground just in front of the statue. I had loaded a save file about four times just before I disarmed the mines when coming from the docks. 12.74.22.39 21:40, 3 April 2009 (UTC)≤shorty:p≥ not an actual user

Can someone answer this question, say if I have the encounter but I accidentally go into an autosave without getting the gun. Am I screwed or can I reload from a previous save and try to find it again?

I made a bet with my brother that the weapon and ammo spawn randomly each time the event is triggered. He maintains it will spawn in the exact same spot as long as you keep triggering the event at the same location. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? We're trying it out now, but some people have gotten to level 20 without ever getting this event, and now we're trying to trigger it a second time. Looks like I'll be up for the night. Oh, what some people will do for a hundred dollars. Edit: Not 15 minutes later and I see glowing blue ammo rain from the sky. Now I'm $100 richer. What a good day :D 122.148.180.136 14:05, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I need a answer to this question say the event happens and I accidentally went into an autosave with out getting the gun am I screwed or can I reload

  • First, sign your posts, second, do not repeatedly ask the same question in one post and thirdly, you can try an autosave but I cannot guarantee it will work.--Kingclyde 05:19, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Cleaned Up the Encounter Locations

I reduced the "triggering the event" article to a reference to the random encounters page, reluctantly leaving the barn strategy as it's unique in its relative ease early on. Anyone object? Techercizer (say hi) (pwnage) 22:31, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

== Ideal Event Location == Anyone know of an ideal random encounter location to trigger this at? That is, one with minimal buildings and scenery for the Firelance and ammo to land on making it inaccessible.J. Smythe 14:42, 29 May 2009 (UTC)....NO!.... the worst one might be the Anchorage War Memorial because some of the Alien Cell have a tendency to end up at the bottom of the Potomac. The Easiest and nearest to the Vault is the Dutch barn R/O 101 Luck set on 10 Level 2. Another hard one is Minefield.Level 4.Luck set at 10.Make you way to minefield ASAP from the direction given to you from Megaton and enter the Gibson house on the left before the street mines.Leave the Gibson house. This then locks you into minefield.Leave the Gibson House and head west up the path towards the pylon at 43 paces up the slope. The pylon with the wires hanging down. The Event always appeares coming from the North, and ends in a double explosion over the target area. In thios case the Water Tower on top the cliffs.Ammo will rain down along with the Firelance. The Firelance may or may not fall in the water tower compound.Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn`t,some of the ammo may or may not fall over the cliff and into Minefield. If it does you will have to get "dog meat" to help in the search.Look for 24 white/blue glowing cells. You will find,1 Firelance. Wg 2 Value 749 Damage 46 with HP -2(5s) with fire and 24 ammo cells. If the event does not occur then reload back to the Gibson House and start again. In any case you will get at least Fifty different encounters up by the water tower from an attack by a pack of dogs, to a hold up by a guy with a sawn off shotgun and no ammo,to a Deathclaw with an injured foot to a Wasteland Doctor who is very helpful, to 4 mole rats, 3 Zombies, 3 Talon Mercs, wastlander fleeing a giant Rad scorpion guarding a fridge, to Ben Canning buried up to his waste in soil and so on until you get the Firelance. Guaranteed to repeat for different games providing you don`t let so much time pass that the event occurs somewhere else on its own. User. 1000hrs Fallout3 16th June 2009 UK.

I got the firelance northeast of bethesda ruins. Two dudes were fighting over water, so I reloaded and instead, I got firelance. I gave it to crazy wolfgang though. I hate wasting limited ammo.--TheFrogger 16:10, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to be moving the triggering videos to here because this is a random event. I have had it at different places. I even tried it for fun one night as per the video. This is a random event so thus the videos are kinda useless--Kingclyde 21:31, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Random Encounters Explained [3]

File:Fallout 3 Random Encounters Explained (Firelance Alien Weapon)

--Kingclyde 21:31, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

More info moved during cleanup

The Firelance appears only in Fallout 3. It can only be obtained through the UFO random encounter.

The random event has a better chance of happening with a higher Luck stat. You will hear and see something which looks mostly like an artillery strike, except it explodes in a green explosion before hitting the ground. Then something crashing and skittering across the ground will be heard, similar to knocking over a large object. The explosion looks similar to a plasma rifle shot impacting.

  • The explosion is a random encounter and can happen in a select few locations of the game.

After the explosion, the immediate area will be strewn with Alien power cell ammo and the Firelance. Unfortunately, it is in no particular pattern, and the player will have to search the immediate area to find the ammo (there are 24 total) and the Firelance on their own.

The Firelance will need some careful searching for (best by daylight) as it is small and blends in with the surroundings. Dogmeat is incredibly useful for this situation, as he can be told to search for a weapon and he'll fetch the Firelance. Dogmeat can also search for ammo and retrieve the alien power cells. Alternatively, wait until night time and look for the ammo, which glows blue in the dark. It is important to note that if an NPC discovers the Firelance during a combat situation they will pick up and equip the weapon. Confirmed NPC's include Raiders, Enclave and wasteland scavengers. This can be very dangerous, as at low levels a Raider with the Firelance can kill you in a few shots.

The items can sometimes become stuck in the sky, you can turn off clipping (console command: tcl) to get them.

Unfortunately, the weapon is likely to get stuck on buildings like a water tower in the wasteland. Your best bet is to try and blast it off with explosives, ideally frag grenades. The best place to find the Firelance is the barn by 101 and 106

  • The Firelance Event is a unique encounter limited to one and only one occurence per player-character.
  • Once a random encounter has occurred at a specific random encounter location, a different random encounter will not occur in the same location for the rest of the game. (See Fallout 3 random encounters for more details)
  • It is possible to miss the sound effects or visual clues to indicate that the Firelance has fallen. If you find yourself approaching a random encounter location, there are no creatures on radar, and your Geiger counter starts registering trace amounts of radiation, start looking for the power cells.

Finding the Firelance and power cells

  • Dogmeat is very helpful for locating both the Firelance and the alien power cells: simply ask him to scavenge for a weapon or ammo in the area where the event triggers. It may be a good idea to follow him closely, however.
  • Star Paladin Cross is helpful too, she can pick it up and you can just take it from her inventory.
  • If you do not find the weapon and all the ammo on PC, and do not have Dogmeat with you: twf and tcl console commands can help as some of the cells might be invisible because of their placement. Using twf you can find and get those cells too.
  • Using tcl the moment you trigger the event also allows you to float up to the explosion, where there will be a compact area conveniently containing the Firelance and all 24 Cells.
  • The Firelance may be found on NPC's: it has been found on Enclave Soldiers, a Raider in front of Super-Duper Mart, a Raider at Farragut West Metro station with no ammo, and in perfect condition on a Talon Company Mercenary at Fort Bannister, along with 1 Alien power cell. Be careful should this be the case; it could prove deadly should you be attacked, and even a 1-hit-kill if you're a low level (acutally this is typically not the case because a level 2 character can survive 2-3 shots of it, tested at Super-Duper Mart).
  • it can also be obtained by going to bethesda ruins and going to the wrecked bus, then save.follow the road to the petrol station outside of bethesda ruins and keep your gun aimed at the sky the whole time.if it doesn't occur, then reload the game and do the same thing until it does.(xbox360 confirmed)If you cant find it(ie,it's stuck in a rock or something)the reload the game and keep trying until you get it.(note:there is raiders in bethesda ruins and is not advisable to go if you are low level and when you stop at the petrol station, there could be two giant radscorpions)
  • If by chance the event happens and Dogmeat is either dead or you have not found him yet, and you are having trouble finding the weapon, and you happen to be near a known raider area, or a village/camp/place with several NPCs (as an example, there is a random encounter near Tenpenny Tower), there is a lengthy, yet effective method that can be used. First, find an area where the ammo seems to be most abundant. Mark that spot on the map and save your game. Make any followers you have stand far away from this area, and then head for the raiders or village/camp/town/etc. Find someone who will chase you (i.e. shoot a guard, or approach a raider) and have them follow you back to the location of the ammo. Save again (on a new space) once you arrive. Make sure to kill off any other people who may have followed you leaving just one enemy and then, either attempt to shoot the weapon from their hand, or if you have it, use the Mesmetron and take all their guns. After letting them go they should proceed to try to strike you. Back away until they run off in search of a gun. With luck, the nearest weapon will be the Firelance. If they pick it up, remember EXACTLY where they picked it up, then load your first save (the one right after the event occurred). Go to the location where the enemy picked up the weapon and it should be there. While this may sound complicated, it is actualy fairly simple to accomplish and can save a lot of time.

Triggering the event

See the random encounter list for a complete list of static locations of these random events.

  • With luck, the Firelance can be discovered right after completing Escape!. Behind the entrance of Vault 101 is a small farm with a barn and a silo. The barn itself is a random encounter location and the Firelance can drop there. The benefit to obtaining the Firelance early is self evident, as it eliminates the risk that would be incurred by immediately traveling to Rivet city or the Deathclaw Sanctuary. (I agree; upon leaving Vault 101 with a luck of 8 I was able to get the Firelance here after about 30 tries. It didn't take long to find all 24 cells either.)

Tips

With the right Perks and enough skill in Energy Weapons -- or at least a high number of Action Points -- the Firelance can reduce the usually difficult Super mutant behemoths to a smoking pile of dust in a single combat round in VATS.

Star Paladin Cross is likely to pick this weapon up, as she does with most energy weapons.

FIRELANCE

LEVEL 30 NO FIRELANCE WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GO FOR IT TO HAPPEN

Lots of comments say that the barn and silo near Vault 101 is good, I've never seen the event there personally. You could try Super Duper Mart as well; I get tons of randoms there, ranging from Talon Company Mercs/Regulators to the one with the Wastelanders fighting over a fridge of water to the Oasis event and even the Deathclaw Schematic event there as well. No matter where you try, Dogmeat is advised to make the search that much easier.

I GOT FIRELANCE!!!

I got the fire lance while on the way to tepid sewers for the wasteland survival guide at lvl 7 I had Jericho with me and was at the war memorial. I then heard an explosion and looked up. there was an explosion in the sky. I the notice there were small blue canisters on the floor, after picking the up they turned out to be alien power cells. after picking up a few I got into a fight with some centaurs. I noticed Jericho was using a strange weapon i then took the weapon off him and found out he was using a fire lance

So......?--TheFrogger 21:56, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Phoenix?

whoever said the alien blaster/firelance looks like phoenix from perfect dark must not have played the game in a long time, there is completely no resemblance whatsoever, I'm going to remove that bit unless someone says otherwise.

Does how high your luck level is affect if the event happens to you?

I think so, it happened to me and some other people with luck 10.--TheFrogger 19:42, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat grabbed clipped firelance

It never occurred to me until months later, but I just recently asked a friend if he ever picked up the alien power cells outside of Alexandria Arms. He said there weren't any there, then it dawned on me (after 8 months) that this was the site for my game's firelance. I immediately set out for the firelance, but couldn't find it anywhere in that location. So I brought Dogmeat along. To my horror when I told him to go fetch me a weapon, he started running at a wall. THE DAMN FIRELANCE CLIPPED INTO THE WALL! I gave up and told him to find ammo, he did find some alien power cells, until he started running up against a wall. So I thought maybe I'll just walk into Alexandria Arms and come back out, somehow Fallout will pull a miracle. When I came back out to look for Dogmeat, he ran up to me and gave me the alien power cell. My jaw dropped. So I repeated the steps that I did, but this time telling him to grab me a weapon. Dogmeat got the firelance! Now I don't know if this works for all situations. Maybe it could work for firelances stuck in the air. Just note that for my situation the firelance fell into Alexandria Arms and there was a door close by (maybe quick traveling could work too if you're out in the open.) I don't know how far or deep the firelance went into the building. If you are going to try this, I suggest making a separate save if you don't want a permanently clipped firelance.

--Ringored 04:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, once, I went over the "impassable" rubble and got behind alexandria arms. I think you can get there either via the citadel glitch or something near anacostia crossing. Anyways, from going behind there I can see how that would happen. There are open spots it can fall into (They don't make every part of buildings, just the parts you can see).--TheFrogger 21:03, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

wow got it at lvl 12

im not sure what the hell just happened but i just got the firelance at level 12 rightafter getting the alien blaster this is awesome that you guys i would of disregarded the random explosion if i didnt look at this site

actually i got it at level 9 with 8 luck 10 perception 6 str

im on ps3 so im not sure it matters64.85.227.209 00:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

unsure if i've found it or not...

ok, so i fast traveled to the citadel, only to be greeted with the sound of the firelance event as i've seen it on youtube, but there were two explosions that actually touched ground. i looked around and couldn't find the gun, so i saved, then went back to my auto-save from before the fast travel, and tried again. but it actually happened two more times, which is making me skeptical, because if it was the random encounter, the odds of it happening 3 times in a row are slim right?

i have the broken steel add-on, and this is my first time being in front of the citadel since beating the main quest before the expansion, so maybe it's just two rockets that never touched ground during the last quest and are now doing so? i'd really appreciate some input so i know whether or not to keep looking for the firelance. -Silent (6-26-09)

Yeah, I've had that happen before, only on that big yellow bridge. Seems the Enclave's long range missiles don't have the shortest fuses. It ain't Firelance. Nitpicker of the Wastes 14:22, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

thanks for the help. -Silent

Trial 1 works!!!

Thanks 4 ur help mate!!

I did the minefield test, and it work great!! Random events every time!! I havn't yet got the Firelance event, but i reckon there are way more than 100 random events. You can find groups of Regulators, Hunters, Scavengers and wastlanders. You can find packs of pretty much every animal in the game. You can also find groups of people arguing over water, one time i thought i had got the Firelance event because i heard an explosion, but it turned out to be wastelanders trying, and failing to disarm some mines.

I'll post back once i get the Firelance

Found FireLance spaceship general area

well it seems that the random encounter most commonly appears near the alien crash site. I have played the game 3 time over and all of my encounters have been in the general area of the alien crash site. My first encounter was right in front of vault 92, second being on the broken bridge below the crash site, third being downhill below alien crash site.

Southeast of Girdershade

I was hiking up to Girdershade from Tenpenny Tower (a northeastwardly trip) and came across a diner which was in pretty good condition inside and had no loot. As I started back towards Girdershade, I saw an explosion in the sky and a smoke trail, but didn't know which came first. I've played F3 *at least* a half dozen times and never seen the Firelance event, so it didn't dawn on me at first what it was. When it finally occurred to me, I advanced time 8 hours (from 2 p.m.) to make it easier to see and started looking for the power cells, eventually finding a lot of them, but don't know if I got them all. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to Dogmeat yet, so no help there. The weapon was laying out in the open - easy to find. Stats: Level 12, but haven't done a lot of exploring; all DLCs, no companions.

A MORE DETAILED ACCOUNT of HOW to get the FIRELANCE edited from my 2009 entry.

See below. --1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 04:03, September 13, 2012 (UTC)

The only certain way will to get the FIRELANCE takes time and effort.2009

Exit Vault 101 .You don`t need any weapons or luck levels.Leave the vault.Go down the slope from vault 101 until you reach the road. Turn sharp right on the road and walk SOUTH up the hill. You will come to a road block with a view of the broken overpass Turn sharp right and walk WEST 7 running paces through a gap in the rocks.Turn NW and run WEST by NORTHWEST 57 running paces up the slope, chased by a MOLE RAT.IGNORE.It will leave you alone before you get to where you want to be.This will take you on a downslope and in sight of the SILO and DUTCH barn farm where all the Wasteland random events can take place inside the BARN which should be facing you. Not the entrance but the rear with the upper loft exit. The run from Vault 101 door to the save point before the DUTCH BARN will take you 50 seconds. SAVE 15 running paces before reaching the rear of the BARN. Start running towards the barn with your finger on the save button. If red or green bars light on your HP indicator during your approach one of over a hundred random events have occured but not the FIRELANCE which does not register on HP. If you want to see what randon event you have triggered look though gaps in the broken boards rear of the barn. If on a run the random Firelance event does appear in the sky you will need to be running and looking skyswards to the north. It will appear from your right in a trail of puffy smoke, burst over the barn in a double flash, one green the other orange. Instantly Hit the save button before it bursts over the barn.If it does not appear reload from your save point and continue running and reloading until the FIRELANCE event appears. Alternatively you can take more time and explore every single random event that appears in the barn After a number of reloads beteen 10 and 100 one run will trigger the Firelance to appear. Remember, be ready to hit the save button the instant you see a puffy trail of smoke appear in the sky as you only have 1/2 a second at most to save the appearance. This FIRELANCE appearance is itself a random event and having saved it you can then reload and explore the randomness of the Firelance appearances and see the ammo and blaster fall in different places every time. Sometimes it will fall all around you hitting the ground and rebounding high ito the air ,to the sound of falling metal and will rock the car RHS of the barn. Other times,it fall further away on the down slope from barn and roll down the hill in the distance, soundlessly. The burst and ammo fall can cover an area of 50 by 50 paces scattered over r 1 acre. If some ammo or Firelance falls inside the barn orrock and vanishes out of sight run 25 paces North East towards the nearby bridge and get one of the raiders carrying a gun to follow you back to the BARN and ammo fall. Hide and watch carefully. They will not only find the location of your missing ammo but the Firelance as well. Never mind that you get killed, the game will revert to your last save and you will now know where the missing ammo and the Firelance is located. That way all 24 ammo cells and the Firelance can be obtained.(2009) ( If this gets deleted as an exploit then you are denying most players new to the game a certain method of ever getting a FIRELANCE.)--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 04:06, September 13, 2012 (UTC)

Still getting guys complaining they can`t get the FIRELANCE

Guy says he can`t get the Firelance after 50 attempts at the Dutch Barn, 5 litres of Coke, 4 snorks,a rack of beer, a sack of girls and an XBOX thrown out of the Window. 50 attempts just won`t cut it man..! It can take up to 100 attempts to guarantee the event takes place. ++++++++++++++++++++ Sorry for my non-perfect english in advance but i just want to say. In some constellations you never get the firelance because you have already triggered the firelance encounter and you do not received it.

I guess there are so many explosions and other loud sounds in the game, especially when you started a new game, that you are overwhelmed by everything and you could not separate the firelance explosion in the sky from other explosions.

I haveve already read this article and have no knowledge about this special weapon at all and just thought "oh that´s an explosion like every one else" but it was the firelance event you heard.

So i think to get this weapon surely you have to start a new game and and try to get the firelance at the Dutch Barn as described above. ++++++++++++++++++++ 2012. From 1000 hrs Fallout3. You will continully hear explosions coming below the hillside by the Silo and Dutch barn.If you look carefully you will see it is a Mole Rat fighting and destroying an Spy Bot which explodes and this is the sound of the explosion you hear. Not to be confused with the Firelance event which is above you in the sky and leaves a trail of puffy smoke before the explosion. If you are looking at the sky explosions you can see the ammo and the Firelance appear and fall with the debris with its distinctive and noisly metallic sounds. 1000 hrs Fallout3.

Randomly walked INTO the Firelance

I was on my second playthrough (an evil) and walked up to vault 106 on one of my many explorations and much to my surprise I find alien power cells scattered all over the place. At that time I knew about the alien blaster but not the firelance so I were rather perplexed as to why there were alien power cells there. So I walk around with dogmeat and pick them up with the help of him and when I've collected 22 of them I hear the sound of you walking into a small object, pushing it around and there it was! I was like WTF is that? Took it up and checked out the wiki and a big smile spread across my face.

FIRELANCE - FORCED RANDOM ENCOUNTER AT THE SUPERDUPER MART

Firelance at the SuperDuper Mart is a pain in the Arse..As if its not difficult enough to get a Firelance event here at all on the Xbox the gun along with most of the ammo can land of the flat front porch of the building and there is nothing you or Dogmeat can do about it. Some of the ammo can be seen hung up in the air at the roof height which if shot at can just as easily go further over the roof. The Ammo can be viewed on the roof at night by looking through a scope while standing on top of the bank to the east.--If anyone with an XBOX has any idea how to get the ammo down it would be interesting to hear about it.ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUKxbox360 20:08, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Just bring plenty of frag grenades and hopefully you'll knock it down. Save before doing this though, obviously.

TO GET THE FIRELANCE OFF THE ROOF OF THE SUPER DUPER MART XBOX 360

Move the CITY LINER in the car park and place it under the dipped part of the roof. Get a trolley from the car park. Carry it up to the top of the CITY LINER by walking up the rear where the atomic fuel tank is carrying the trolley. Place the Trolley on top of the CITY LINER by the dip in the AWNING. Jump on top of the TROLLEY and then JUMP on top of the Awning. To get on top of the huge roof, use more TROLLEYS. To find out how to move the CITY LINER see the TALK page on the CITY LINER....Took me three years to find this trick--1000HrsFallout3 06:47, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

FIRELANCE and LUCK LEVELS

After hundreds of attempts now at various luck levels. It seems that the Firelance event is not as previously thought luck dependent anymore than any other random event is luck dependent but can occur at any of a number of sites where random events take place. It is not known how many of these sites there are but they are dotted all over the wasteland.Neither does luck levels control the ammo or Blaster falling in accessible or inaccessible places. Bottom of the Potomac river is a great hoot for those who like exploring river beds ! My edit.Never signed in those days.2009.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 08:09, September 14, 2012 (UTC)

Forcing a Second Firelance ! XBOX 360 Dream on!!!!

I attempted to see if a second Firelance event could be forced. 100 seconds after leaving Vault 101 ,Lvl 2 Lck 10 armed only with the 10mm pistol I saved and forced a Firelance at the SUPER DUPER MART and on the 36th attempt the Firelance appeared, coming from the east, the twin explosions over the car park and as usual had to fight two raiders to get the weapon. For some reason the girl raider always seems to find the weapon first.(are girls brighter than boys ?) Maybe! Leaving this site I fast travelled back to Vault 101 then ran to the rear of 101 above the cliffs to the DUTCH BARN ,saving 20 paces before the rear of the barn. The random encounters are triggered 14 running paces from the Barn centre and always appear inside the barn except for the Firelance which explodes over the top of the barn with the smoke trail coming from the north. After 300 attempts at a second forced Firelance encounter I have to conclude that only one Firelance event occurs during the course of the game although 300 failed attempts is not proof. The most frequent triggered event at this location ( but never seen on first attempts ) were bright flash explosions in the wasteland some 50 running paces past the barn to the North. On visitng these sites all I usually encounted was a viscous dog. Another event to occur in the barn is a very loud bright flash explosion which fills the interior of the barn, no Rads, which leaves a Wastelander running from the barn since his mate blew himself up trying to recover a metal mine .--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 06:03, 7 July 2009 (UTC)--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 08:14, September 14, 2012 (UTC)

First time wiki edit so be patient. Got 360 GOTY edition, had it years, played through many times but Never had Firelance. Started new character and got it at a low level (2 or 3) near SuperDuper Mart and was so excited i held onto it until I got the megaton house and gave it pride of place on my desk in the bedroom. Anyway, completed Anchorage and continued playing through to about level 18 or 19 and near one of the power stations I heard a boom and assumed it was a car explosion until it started raining alien power cells! Brilliant, i thought! got Dogmeat to find the gun amongst the rocks and grabbed the ammo. Went back to Megaton and my original gun was gone. Now, I know the 360 is glitchy (poor Clover is MIA for several levels now after vanishing in my Megaton home) but this weirded me out enough to want to add it here. WTF Scrounger

Firelance ammo with and without the Scrounger Perk.

I spent time trying out the Firelance encouter with various luck levels at level 2 when you cannot get the scrounger perk and with dogmeat can usually find 24 ammo cells. Tried with the scrounger perk which can be obtained at Level 8 and found rhe same results Max of 24 cells. Lvl 8 r/o Vault 101 : Dutch barn Lck 2 Chance of a Firelance 1.49% or 1 in 69 attempts. The ammo will still spray at random all over the barn and surrounding area. Some can be found on top the stairs insdie the barn.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 13:49, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

I was heading over to the Republic of Dave when I had noticed the I had gotten the firelance encounter and i had managed to pick up some 20-22 Alien Power Cells. I had not yet chosen the Scrounger perk, in fact i was going to choose that perk next. I'm pretty sure that this is the same bug that affected the perk, Grim Reaper's Sprint. however it may be possible that, without the perk, you have a chance at a total of 24, and having the perk garuntees it.--Master of cheeZ 05:03, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh, nvm, last time i read this page it said that the number of power cells was affected by the scrounger perk.+++You have given be another task..To try the scrounger perk on Firelance ammo..The best place I know of is the Dutch Barn at the rear of Vault 101.The ammo does not get hung up there but there can be a problem with it bouncing downhill into Mole Rat territory.lol...--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 14:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

How many Random event sites are there for the Firelance ?

XBOX360 - Not known ! .There is as yet no comprehensive catalogue of possible trigger sites. A random event site is surrounded by a circular trigger field set at about 25 running paces out from the event site.Usually the first thing you will know about a site is when you trigger the field and the red or green bars light up. Scanning a known location site with a scope from outside the field is of no help. Once you have entered a trigger field whatever appears in that field also knows you are there unless you are in hidden mode. Unce triggered most fields do not reset. Some random events are more likely to happen at a location than others and become very repetitive and annoying when searching for rarer events like Ben Canning, the three mines, Giant Rad Scorps fighting ants or the desired Firelance. Burning barrels seem common events as do the 4 raiders beating up that stupid guy who stands in the centre who then attacks you if you go and try to break it up. Who thought this one up? Some one with a Masochistic tendency ?. So it seems from my experience the chances of getting a Firelance is about as even as getting Ben Canning, the Useless shotgun robber, the three mines or the dead Chinese commando with the radio who is standing up when he first appears but collapses as you watch. Why Bethesda has it in for the Chinese I don`t know. We eat Chinese food and enjoy, and every dam thing at home has made in the PRC or has Made in China stamped on it..Without the Chinese our house in the UK would be empty although a lot of electrical gear appears to be CRAP..and for all you lovely guys and dolls in the U.S.of A. your lovely comfortable Skechers shoes , Well! the`re made in CHINA as well !!!! !!!!--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 08:06, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Random Encounter sites at the PIT.

How many, if any random encounter sites are there at the pit.`Cause if random encounters sites there aint, then there aint no Firelance at the PIT. ( ain't Pronunciation: \ˈānt\ Etymology: contraction of `are not` Date: c 1749 England.) --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 19:18, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Firelance Stolen from Megaton whilst away at Pittsburgh, formerly Pittsburro c1794

XBOX 360: Whilst away on a "holiday" after a suggestion by that bastard Werner that Pittsburgh needed my help I left my Firelance and Alien blaster in my bedside cabinet at my Megaton House. As if getting the Firelance is not difficult enough when I return from my sojourn in that Hell hole the Firelance had been stolen along with the ammo.Is this a glitch ? A number of guys have had their gear go missing from various lockers of this house ,the locker nearest the door being the prime suspect but this time it was upstairs by the bed..So I had to spend out caps on a second mission to the PIT. This time I took all my gear with me and stashed it all in a dead Raider shot by Werner at the rail head at the Pitssburgh side of the tunnel.( Later this Werner guy when he fails to get his way says, " Fuck the raiders,Fuck the slaves and Fuck you to you, Fucker " then runs off ..I can`t wait to meet up with him again and then I will show him what a real Fucker is like...) anyway my gear was still in the dead body when I finished my visit so am now back in the Wasteland game with Capt.Adams favourite show off piece. (anybody out there remember Cpt.Adams from the film " Forbidden Planet" with " Robbie the Robot ?") and has anyone else here had their weapon stolen from a locker?--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 06:47, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

WADSWORTH! Although some items do disappear from the megaton house, for me it was the Legendary Giant Teddy Bear (I know, absolutely devastating for teddy bear collectors), however wadsworth is know to steal some things, so kill him.--Master of cheeZ 19:28, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Is that right? That son of a bitch must have took my Metal Blaster!

Another spawn location

i was looking at all the places listed to possibly spawn the weapon and ended up failing completely. i was about to give up when i noticed a random encounter had spawned a good distance from a previous save. i saved right before the path to Broadcast Tower LP8 coming from the east side (Recling Groves Resort Homes)i walked north west from the tower and spawned it under the destroyed monorail tracks right next to the freeway. it should be a spot where the dirt seems lighter than usual. i managed to spawn a few good random encounters like Ben Canning, The Radscorpion vs ant, The deathclaw schematic, and Laszlo Radford. I really wouldnt recommend this spot cause it was so damn hard to find the gun in the rubble and trees and i had to resort to talon company mercs to find it. i found it at lv. 20 luck 8 on Xbox 360. THIS IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE RANDOM ENCOUNTER NEAR THE GATE OF THE THE TOWER! --Fallout3slayer

Another Location Wilhem's Wharf

I was just trying to walk to Arlington national cemetery when I noticed glowing things on the ground ahead being curious i went ahead and found they where alien power cells. So I went and got dogmeat asked him to find a weapon and he found the weapon. Everything was pretty spread out.The location that i found it was NW of Wilhem's wharf down a alleyway surrounded by a big brick wall.(some power cells where on top of the wall)Bt Me 02:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

I also encountered it here. I was walking along the brick wall mentioned above when my geiger counter told me I was gaining a small amount of rads. I knew that the Firelance event causes the immediate area to be surrounded by Radiation for a short time, so I sent Dogmeat looking for ammo and was given an alien power cell. After some searching, I found the Firelance behind a destroyed car at the base of the wall.

Another location - SE of Tenpenny Tower

Was exploring the area outside of Tenpenny Tower, and after leaving Willie's Grocer and going south towards the ruined office building, the event occurs. About ~20 power cells lie outside the ruins and the Firelance and 2 more power cells are on the ground inside the ruins.

The random encounter spots are all over the map, and the Firelance event could possibly happen at any one of them. It's a futile endeavour to find out which ones could possibly spawn it. --MadCat221 14:19, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
I found it in that exact position. I didn't actually see the event, but I just wandered down to the ruined building, and saw these strange yellow cigarette-sized capsules. I realised that I'd found Firelance. Are we totally sure that these are 100% random? Could something else effect where they appear? Game progressions, skills, time played, Karma, etc.? --Kalem 06:25, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Another location the flooded metro

I went there once there a junkie and some green explosion were i found 23 alien power cells but no firelance

I really should delete all of these. THEY CAN APPEAR AT ANY RANDOM ENCOUNTER LOCATION. WE NOT NEED YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES OF FINDING IT HERE. Fat Man Spoon 14:27, 4 July 2009 (UTC) Like all things it`s a matter of personal taste: It`s a bit like life: blogging;.I read a lot. Some of them are informative, some funny but all very personal. Why not start by deleating YOUR life.We know that they can appear at random encounters but do you know just how many Fallout3 explorers have never even encountered even one? I played over 400 hrs before I had even heard of a Firelance and many who have still have not found one.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 05:31, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Firelance Location

Alright guys heres the deal.. Go northwest of clifftop shacks like a little northeast and you'll reach a pit or a big crater (THIS DOSEN'T REQUIRE A HIGH LUCK). Try going at night and you'll discover a big green explosion in the sky and you'll find the alien power cells/the firelance. If you find another random encounter try traveling there at night or the next day.

CLIFF TOP SHACK FORCED RANDOM SITE LOCATION - FIRELANCE

REF: Article by 65.211.20.252 17:44, 7 July 2009 (UTC). Went to cliff top shacks and after stumbling around through dangerous passes and narrow gorges heading generally NE I eventually located the steep path leading down into a crater with a trigger field set just before the top, You can`t miss it.It has three RAD 1 bubbling, smoking pools at the bottom with a good view of the surrounding cliffs and scorched pine trees and a great view of the sky if you look straight up lmho.Save for this random location 23 running paces in the narrowest part of the gorge before the crater pool. Most random events will occur at the bottom of the pit by the pools including the injured Death Claw. The Firelance event occurs at the rate of 1 in 82 attempts or 1.2% after running at Lvl 2 straight from Vault 101. Good luck looking for the Firelance in that jumble of rocks and also some of the ammo may be scattered in the RAD 1 pools.I`d swear I`ve left some of the ammo still on top that 300 foot cliff to the rear.Any one good at rock climbing? no path up !.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 16:57, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Firelance Strength

Is the Firelance stronger than the Alien Blaster because they both have the same damage and critical chance strongerand since the firelance is unique I thought it would be stronger .--BruteCheiftain 10:27, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

firelance

It is stronger because it does burn damage like the flamer after you hit them.

Don't Confuse the random encounter sound with a car bomb

About a week ago, I heard what I presumed to be a car explosion from far away. Luckily, I remembered exactly where I was when this occured. At the time I thought it was nothing special. Then I found out about a weapon called firelance and how the random encounter works. I got Dogmeat from the junkyard and went to the previously mentioned area. Sure enough, 1 minute later, I found firelance. Good luck to all.--68.229.37.136 02:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)Accipe Hoc

Confusing Appearances of the Firelance

The encounter is so random and so infrequent that other than forced encounters with the XBOX360 most wasteland wanderers are never going to see this event. The average rate of a Firelance appearance is around 1 in 60 at a random location site so unless you visit around 60 random encounter sites during the course of the game you will be most unlikely to find this weapon. The average player plays to achieve the "end game" not delay the end game by wandering round the wasteland for tens of hours.I spent around 60 hours to end the game at my first ettempt and never encountered a Firelance until I read about it on Wiki Fallout and then it was not made clear how to force an encounter. On the second attempt I spent over 400 hours in the wasteland , still without an encounter until I read about random encounter sites, saving, and then repeating the random encounters until the Firlance puts in an appearance. Then luck levels were introduced and so I have always set luck on level 10. At the WKML broadcast station, the one with the three tall masts and a undamaged concrete building at Lvl 2, Lck 10, a Firelance has appeared twice during the first visit. With Lck on 1 it took 92 attempts to get this same event to appear so perhaps luck controls the rate of appearance ?. If encounters are not forced by the player then they are going to be triggered as the player passes a Random Encounter site at a distanced of 14 running paces. Since the player is not expecting an encounter then the arching smoke trial which usually runs North to South except at Anchorage War Memeorial may not be seen and nor may the twin sky explosions. All that may be heard is a rushing noise, an explosion and the sound of falling metal which comes from the pieces of the "Alien craft" breaking up but which are never found except for the gun and ammo. I have only ever found 1 piece of ammo stuck in the sky and I shot that down with the 10mm pistol that I got from vault 101 while the Firelance so looks like the colour of the rocks and soil that dog meat is often needed to find it unless you can encourage another player into the area when they will know where it is and pick it up leaving you with the problem of getting it off them.....Sorry if the story is a bit long but so is the problem of obtaining this allusive weapon. --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 05:37, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Float on O' Firelance

This is my personal experience. As well as an additional drop location. Near the MDPL-13 Power Station I had the Firelance Drop. I was lv7 wit luck 1. After watching a smoking arc in the sky I headed towards the Power Station. I arrived at the top of a tree spotted hill that looks down on Power station. To the west is A broken broadcasting tower, to the east is where the Radroach King sits, and to the norther-ish is the "Derelict Power Station".

So back to what happened. Upon arriving at the top of said hill I looked up and saw many Alien Power Cells floating in the sky. The path of them lead to both the east and west. I found that the western direction was dead ended at the broken broadcasting tower. Following east I head down the hill along the floating power cell path in the sky. I come to a point where a few cells are actually close to the ground. It finally dead ends at a pile of rocks. All I can hear is the sound of metal clanking on the rocks, but no firelance in sight. my best guess is that on the downward arc to the ground that the gun clipped through the rocks and is now stuck inside.

I've yet to make an attempt with Dogmeat to remove it. I'm also curious if a disarmed raider could pick it up. ( An armed Raider entering the area will know where it is and will pick it up./Pers Obs.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 06:18, 7 July 2009 (UTC) )

I feel that my story will at least have provided info on another drop location. On that note if anyone has had a similar situation or solution that would also be helpful.

Clifftop Shacks

First want to thank everyone for listing their own experiences triggering this event. Would not have been able to find teh Firelance without your help.

After playing approx. 190 hours and at level 28 with Luck 10, had found every marked location on the map and was giving up hope of finding this weapon. I was beginning to think I had just triggered this event early in the game but had missed it, not knowing what to listen/look for, and that it was now lost to the wastes.

This discussion board gave me hope by explaining that on the extreme western and northwestern areas of the map there are plenty of unexplored spots that trigger random encounters, so I set up a trail that went from Yao Gai caves north to Raven Rock, and then East along the northern border of the map until reaching the clifftop shacks.

Approaching the cliftop shacks from the northwest, there are a couple of north/south running canyons that run adjacent to the shacks. The most narrow canyon, immediately west of the shacks, is where my Firelance event was triggered. Did not see any lights, but heard what sounded like the whining of a jet engine followed by an explosion and knew that the event had occurred. Saved game, then told Dogmeat to find ammo. He ran into the narrow canyon, which opens up into a area walled off by the cliffs and featuring a bunch of very shallow radiation pools.

Some of the Alien Blaster ammo was scattered around the pools, and some of the ammo ended up on top of the adjacent cliffs. The Firelance itself landed on top of a big rock in the radiation pool area.

Thanks again to everyone for their help.

How to see the Firelance at its best and soonest -70 Seconds after leaving Vault 101 at the DUTCH BARN RANDOM SPAWN SITE.FORCED FIRELANCE

Great Story about the cliff top shack. Just goes to show that there is hope in the Wasteland after all. One of these trigger events will be the Firelance coming from the north which will explode in two balls of light over the barn one of which will be a blue/green swirl of ammo about the diameter of the barn wall.BEST SEEN AT NIGHT !. Be ready for the sonic entrance sound of the event and puffy fast moving arching trail of smoke and hit the SAVE BUTTON before it explodes. As the position of the explosions is also random you will see variations in relative location of the sky explosions which will alter the positions of the ammo and Firelance fall.Look carefully and you will see some ammo bounce 10 of more feet back into the air to the sound of heavy falling metal and somewill roll into any shallow pit or down any slope that happens to be nearby. Some may roll down the hill to the West. You will also see the car to the RHS of the barn rock from side to side is it gets hit and the Red racer bike on the scrap heap can fly up into the air if hit.For ammo with zero weight it packs a punch.'Congratulations ! You should now have a saved Firelance event on your console. It took me 7 months starting in October 2008 ! to find a guaranteed method of getting this weapon..--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 10:18, 8 July 2009 (UTC)--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 04:16, September 13, 2012 (UTC)

Firelance at Red Racer

When I was on the nuka cola clear side mission, i was on my way to ledoux to give him the formula, and i saw a full moon so I pulled out the reservists rifle and shot at it. All of a sudden, I saw a steak go across the screen. I looked for what it was because I had never heard of the firelance or the event leading to it, and I found something glowing in the dark. It turned out to be a power cell, and the firelance was nearby. I had the alien blaster already, so I had around 134 rounds for it.24.141.57.124 23:01, 8 July 2009 (UTC)+++++ I had a Red Racer when I was a kid.I remember age around 5 riding down a steep bank in our back garden in the port of Southampton, UK and flying thru the air..I woke up with the cat licking my face. ratflmao..That night Martin Lutz and his EPR GR 210 Squadron out of France filled our back garden with incendiary bombs..He was later killed .27.09.1940: Target Parnall Yate: Epr Gr 210. :Bf 110D-3, Wnr.3378, S9+DH of St/Epr Gr 210 Gruppenkommandeur. Luck and the Firelance event --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 09:18, 14 July 2009 (UTC)).

It`s still not known what if any part luck level plays in this event .There is insufficient data of these occurences to attempt to second guess this answer. I played the first game in October for 60 hours,:No Firelance. The second game in December for 400 hours:No Firelance. It`s not unlucky, its just that I didn`t visit the required number of random event locations to get my percentage of an encounter high enough to guarantee an appearance. The chance of this event accuring at any one random site location is approximately 60 to 1 but some sites like Super Duper Mart seems to be around 80 to 1.It plain terms what this means is that 80 players have all to visit Super Duper Mart before one of them shouts"I got this weird thing happen to me " and not even know what the blue ammo cells are for and perhaps never even know that a difficult to see gun (even if you know it is there ) was involved, while the other 79 either don`t believe him or can`t understand what this lunacy is all about. As Clint would say ,""Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk? ".the honest answer:No! I wouldn`t bet on it.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 07:35, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible to totally miss it

I was reading on this but im afraid I totall ymissed the event and didnt pay no attention and just kept right on exploring the wasteland is it rlly easy to miss if your not payinga attention

When I found the encounter, I missed the explosion visually. I heard it, and I'm hard of hearing. So seeing it might be a problem, but hearing it is another story. As soon as you hear the sound, look to the sky (in all dramatic sense).

It`s easy to complete the game without exploring even a fraction of the random event locations in the wasteland so I would suspect the majority of players who only take the Main Quests and a few Side Quests have never ever found a Firelance since it might take encountering up to 80 or more Random event locations before the event triggers .Hence the weapon is considerd rare...............How many for instance bother to complete Oasis and Bob or is it Howard ? --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 06:04, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

I got one.

I just got this game today and had only 6 luck, and found it lying on the ground at the war memorial place. I only managed to pick up 10 little capsule things too, I didn't know how many there were, and I even almost sold it before my friend told me it was rare. Actually, I played and my game crashed as I went up there, something explody it seemed, I don't remember. I installed the patch, and went back, it was there. I may have a saved file of the location.

i found power cells at the bethsada ruins. and on another profile i found it east of oasis.

There are a few possibilities here.Did you get to Anchorage War Memorial and miss the re-entry sound and if you did then you will find a number of ammo cells still at the bottom of the Potomac River at the Memorial. Jump off the `SW end opposite the jetty and search the river bottom by either diving down and risk drowing or get Dog Meat to do it for you. He`s good at diving. Look for a total of 24 cells. The weapon is good for defeating Death Claws so save it and all ammo for the Death Claw Sanctuaryand Olde Olney.(Remember to look for the delivery note alongside the dead driver on the steps at Olded Orney for more Nuka Cola Quantum).Good luck!--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 05:55, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

NEW LOCATION AND INFO

i have just gotten the alien blaster about 2 days before the firelace all about 1 month ago. it was about 1 am fallout time and i was walking west i think of old olney i see a gas station (with one of those red rocket ships) and i hear an explosion and i thought i was on crack everything was sooo dark and after remembering about the firelance i was like :O OH SHIT so i walked and looked around for half an hour and i find it about 1/4 of a mile away from the explosion. Along with a total of 8 ammo just today i went back to the place by accident and in a 2 mile radius i found another 11 ammo :D good luck finding it oh another thing i only have about 35 energy weapons at level 20 and no DLC and my blaster does 72 damage with 1/20 of the bar depleted yet the firelance with a full bar only does 62 damage....yes fire is cool but it doesnt beeat an extra 10 damage

Got it!

Level 24, luck 8, 35 hours into character. Forced the encounter at Broadcast Tower KB5, which wasn't the best choice because of the terrain obscuring some of the ammo, but the ammo itself isn't as extraordinarily rare as the weapon. With this character, it should be noted i've powered through the main quest and Broken Steel, only diverting for bobbleheads and unique weapons, and had only triggered a dozen random encounters at the absolute most. I gets where I'm going and tend to fast travel everywhere else. This is in constrast with a 100-hour character with which i never (knowingly) triggered the event. I could've missed it in my ignorance.

I just hope that the Firelance stays a one-shot encounter after Mothership Zeta comes out. Fresh Alien Blasters for repair fodder, that'd be great, but this weapon's rarity is its appeal. I already have over 400 APCs and part of me wishes the player could dual-wield pistols. I just finished Who Dares Wins and have two Alien Blasters and a Firelance. -firefall 24.254.47.155 14:11, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

got it at early level....

1 hour into charactor, level 4... o.0

ran into a raider with it that just picked it up

Got it.

lvl 6, luck 1, war memorial.

Didn't see the explosion, but luckily found ammo, nearly missed it! Got dogmeat, found weapon and ammo etc.

BTW, I got v lucky, I have never tried to get it, don't know random encounter locations etc. I think I had two or three random encounters before, idk.

Got it on accident

I just started my second play-through and decided to be evil. I hired Jericho and then left megaton on the way to Pentenny tower. Along the way jerry started a fight with a random mole rat and fired a gun which i though was the alien blaster. So of course i was like, wtf? i checked his inventory and he was holding the firelance! I had no idea what the gun was or that there even was a unique alien blaster. unfortunately i don't know where he picked it up so so much for finding alien power cells anytime soon...

Firelance inside boulder at Vault 106

I was at the entrance of Vault 106 when I saw a small explosion then a long streak of smoke above me. At this point I was really excited. So I looked around the area and could only find like 6 alien power cells, but no firelance. I was starting to think I would never find it. Then I remembered that Dogmeat (or his puppies) could find ammo/guns. So I got one of Dogmeat's puppies and went back to Vault 106. I told Dogmeat's puppy to find a gun and he started running against a boulder. I started getting really disappointed. Then, thankfully, he was able to glitch through the boulder, get the firelance, then glitch back out of the boulder.

Then, thankfully, he was able to glitch through the boulder, get the firelance, then glitch back out of the boulder.

Found one.

MDPL-05 Power station after I had already encountered some ghouls and then left, but forgot schematics the corps had in the fenced area. Upon return, no barrel of fire for the ghouls heat and no ghouls. Maybe the impact scared them off?

For anyone who's coming here trying to discover it, here are the clues. You'll hear an explosion in the sky or from a distance, see a smoke trail in the sky like a meteor falling. Where it lands, that's the spot. I just started playing this game for the first time 4 days ago and just thought I'd add that for newbies.

My Experience

I originally found the Firelance on an Enclave soldier near Alexandria's Arms. Luckily I V.A.T.S.'ed him before he had a chance to shoot me. At the time I knew nothing about Firelance, but had found the Alien Blaster so I knew it was a unique AB. Unfortunately, I though Enclave soldier could spawn with Firelance, but boy was I sadly mistaken. Also, unfortuately, I never saw the APCs either so I lost out on the ammo. Oh well, that was 2 profiles ago!

NEW PERSON TALKING. i ave no clue how to post my own section, so im adding in this one... anyway. im either uber lucky, or attract idiot raiders who love to dick around with missle launchers. cause, every time i start a new game, i head over to super duper mart to milk the randoms, and at the time, i had no clue how the firelance event happened, and on 5 seperate occasions, AT LEAST 5!! i saw a a line of smoke followed by an explosion over the super duper mart, or near it. and i dont know if it was luck? (not game stat) or just an idiot raider dicking around with a missle launcher. im a ps3 owner btw. respond if this happened to you. and its a significant thing too, and most of the time, i cant even find firelance if the explosion went off. only found it like twice. 96.253.57.245PSN Mister_Sticky check out my fallout 3 plat XP

HEY FINALLY GOT IT. dont noe how but it was in the holster of some talon company merc puttin some major whoopass on me. only got 2 alien power cells......(Ramenlover250 02:13, 23 July 2009 (UTC))

I Think I Missed It

A lot of times I have heard random explosions. I usually look around but not up. If it did happen and I missed it will it come again at some other spot or do I have to look for the original spot?--24.45.241.204 14:56, 19 July 2009 (UTC)MAYBE NOT: Around 1000 or more of the explosions in the Wastelands are surface spawns and have nothing to do with the lone Firelance event. Firelance events have a rushing sound in the air, a puffy arc of smoke and then a double explosion. If nearby, the sound of falling metal. If it has not alrealy occured and there is on way to know if it has, try and find a random event location site such as the one to the North East of CLIFF TOP SHACK where it is most unlikely you have ever visited it and then follow the instructions for Cliff Top shacks in the discussion.Or try the Random event site above Vault 101, the Dutch Barn. It may take you half an hour of trying but you will in the end get the Firelance.Dont foget to SAVE before rushing into an event site. If after 100 tries you do not get the Firelance then you most probably have already missed it and will have to shoot every raider and Merc in the Wasteland to find out who`s got the weapon or go back and reload earlier in the game !!! .Hope this is of some help.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 16:45, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

EXTRA ALIEN POWER CELLS, TIPS ON FINDING THE FIRELANCE AFTER EXPLOSION

well, when i was finding all the locations in the game, i was walking between the nuka cola plant and andale, when i hear the explosion in the sky, and as i knew about the firelance, i turned & looked, saw the trail and was like "SWEET JESUS! WHERE IS IT!" and i scavenged around for 2 days gametime, looking for it and its ammo (btw, there are more then 12 power cells with it, even without scrounger) and i found alot of cells, but NO FIRELANCE. so i came on here, and YES, DOGMEAT/DOGMEAT'S PUPPIES will find the ammo and the weapon for you! thanks to those who posted that tip, but if youve been looking for ages, and dogmeat finds it on the spot youd been on for 15 minutes, it is rather depressing! OTHER PLACES FOR AMMO: theres the firelance area itself, the UFO crash site, you lot probs know more, but if you get the "Broken Steel" dlc, then in the old oldney power plant, in the room just before you get the tesla coil (should be a pulse mine in a fryin pan on the cooker) there are a few scattered over the tables. Hope this helps some of you! --92.18.106.215 20:19, 20 July 2009 (UTC) THE M0LE TRAIN

some extra tips for finding it if you haven't already.. the key to finding it in the first place is knowing whether it's already happened or not.. so keep a sharp lookout for alien power cells in places that aren't pre-placed (see the APC discussion page). Mine spawned at temple of the union, and I didn't even know it, didn't hear the explosion, didn't see anything drop. It wasn't until about 20 hours (real time) later (and I know this because I checked through a bunch of old saves to see at what point they weren't there anymore) that I even noticed there were power cells on the ground. Searching at night REALLY helps a lot.

The other tip I wanted to pass on is that dogmeat isn't the only way to sniff it out if it's stuck somewhere, or if you just can't find it. If you can find an enemy nearby, keep shooting his weapon out of his hands, when he starts to take swings at you, lure him back to the spot with the cells (whenever you do find it). The game AI will constantly tell the enemy to pick up any nearby weapons as soon as they can sense that they're around. With this strategy, if you bring him to the place where the firelance fell, he'll find it for you. The minute he wields it, and you know for sure that he has it (pausing in vats and targeting the weapon will tell you), blow his head off and get it from his inventory. Yes, I had to do it this way because for some ridiculous reason, I decided after I accidentally shot dogmeat in the initial encounter that I didn't need him as a companion anyway and then finished the game without him (real smart). This can also be pretty efficient as well because there's the potential that you can have an army of unarmed enemies searching for it on your behalf and all you gotta do is lead them around a little.

Firelance in 5 tries

I was sure that I had already triggered this encounter but was unaware of what to look for. In fact I was set to start my game again and force the firelance at the barn near vault 101. I thought I would give it at least 60 tries just to be sure. I had already triggered the random encounter at the barn, so I chose the red rocket near the Chast Acres Dairy. First two tries yielded hitmen, next two tries yielded the Scavenger with the Yao Guai and a dead Protectron, 5th try and I saw the green explosion in the sky!!! I was able to locate 19 of the 24 Alien power cells on my own, but couldn't find the remaining 5 or the firelance. I decided to recruit Dogmeat and he located the firelance as well as the remaining 5 power cells for me with no problem. I was level 7.5 with 5 luck, although I have since read that luck doesn't really factor in to it. Anyway, just wanted to point out that the Chaste Acres Dairy does trigger the firelance random event. Just be careful because if the firelance lands on top of the red rocket, I am not sure you would be able to get it. Aknaff 04:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Ughhh.

On one of my profiles I found some powercells by some subway. I thought it was just those. I think I heard an explosion too but there were many cars around so I dismissed it. 5 minutes later I died and I found a nuka-cola salesman at the same subway. So close, but I wouldn't of even got the gun so I guess its kinda good.

My encounter

So level three I'm out of the vault for a grand total of about 10 minutes and I'm walking alone the river north of 101 to 106 and I pass the raider camp on one of the broken pieces of highway and of course I start killing them to get some better guns right. Well as soon a I shot the combat shotgun out of some random raiders hand he pulls out the firelance and kills me with it. I have never seen it since

i found the firelance at the arlington library i had just come out after giving that scribe some pre war books and saw an enclave on the road he was marked as an enemy and he started to shoot at me so i tried killing him but he wouldn't die. i noticed that in his hand was what looked to be like an alien blaster i didn't realise that it was the fire lance (because before this i didn't know about it) i got out the fatman and finally he died i went to spot he was standing at and on the ground was the firelance. WTF?--58.107.161.178 10:20, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Unlimited Alien Ammo

There s another way to get firelance ammo. If you have the alian blaster when you run into raiders destroy all and each of there weapon then kill one of them then take all his inventory then put your alian blaster and one alian ammo on his body then wait for one of the other raider to pick up the blaster and ammo from the body then kill the raider that picked up the inventory and then search his body you will see one ammo and the blaster take them both and then look into you inventory you will see that your alian ammo increased. the increase in ammo is random and doesnt work each time but most of the time. the maximum i got in one shot was 10. now i have 600 alian ammo.

This actually works. I am now farming alien power cells.--Дикий Человек Вампира 18:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

NEVER RUN SHORT OF ALIEN AMMO XBOX360 et al

Limited Edition Alien

I felt sorry for that poor Alien laying on his own in the Wasteland after flying all this way to pay us a visit only to crash through the roof of a house and so thoughtfully leave us his Blaster and ammo,so I gently picked him up and carried him back to my Megaton Pad and sat him in the chair with a Teddy Bear in his lap for company...He looked quite peaceful in the chair. I go out and when I return he`s gone. what the f`s going on..It`s not Wadsworth this time as I left him on the floor in a pile of slag.! --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 23:12, 22 July 2009 (UTC).

i agree wit you that poor irraddiated alien dead on the ground. so i picked him up and dropped him in the potomac. then bout a mission later around rivet city he was floating around pinkertons door!!!(Ramenlover250 02:10, 23 July 2009 (UTC))

How exactly did you get him through the house door? And for that matter, the Megaton gate?

How do you get the alien inside your house?--Дикий Человек Вампира 18:48, 24 July 2009 (UTC) I`m glad you spotted this deliberate deceit.I wondered how many aliens out there might take the rouble and time to carry their mate back ....In reality I sat the poor bastard in the chair outside Megaton gate with the Robot to keep him safe...He still vanished..--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 17:23, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Got Firelance at Flooded Metro

I fast traveled to arlington library, then headed west toward the metro (this is my first time going to the flooded metro). After killing all the raiders there, I kept going west past the flooded metro until I saw a couple more raiders standing out on the multilane road. I walked until they started shooting me and then I headed back toward the flooded metro entrance. I did this about 20 times and I got the event. Here's what happened: As I was leaving the metro and walking towards the raiders in the road, I heard a bang and I immediately turned around and saw the remains of the explosion and the smoke falling from the sky. Unfortunately I only found one alien power cell. I got the weapon though. I plan on bringing dogmeat to see if I can scrounge up the other ones, and if not, use console to get more power cells XP.

Note: entering the flooded metro from the direction of the arlington library wont trigger the event. random encounters only triggered for me when I headed towards those raiders and back.

for those who think they have had the event but aren't sure, this quest mod will add a firelance quest if the ufo did crash for you, telling you the general area the ufo crashed in: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4009

this mod actually triggers the firelance event (independently of the random encounter, meaning u can have 2 firelances) http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7722

You can get the Firelance at any level.

I actually got the Firelance random encounter to work at level 29 (the barn next to Vault 101). Got it on the second try. Thanks for all the good info out there!!

--Rycr34 07:25, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Found near MDPL-21

I was heading from SatCom Array NN-03d towards Oasis... stumbled upon MDPL-21 Power Station, and shortly after leaving it (heading towards Oasis again), the bright green explosion in the air happened just NE of MDPL-21. Found 21 cells and the Firelance after a good 20-30 minutes of searching.

I had a high luck level also, 8. Maybe that does have something to do with it. I have been trying to help my son get it (luck level 5) and it has been 2 hours now with nothing to show!!--Rycr34 06:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Firelance.

Having read the rest of these posts, I think I pretty much have a good idea how to successfully obtain a firelance when I begin my new game within the next few days, so thank you for all the info. The one thing I'm worried about though, is that with all the new add-ons and such, and 'Mothership zeta' seeming so close, will the coveted and (I suppose) legendary firelance be marked as obsolete? I mean, looking at all these people who have tried getting this weapon fairly, and put in hours of gameplay just to come to a satisfying technique, if a similar weapon (perhaps a pistol or rifle) is released, with higher Damage, or perhaps the firelance becoming a routine weapon aboard the mothership, will this deter anyone from finding the random event? Or would anyone still try and get it fairly just to say they have? MagusNadimi 21:24, 23 July 2009

Okay, actually, I left the computer wondering about the firelance, so I paid a friend of mine a visit, and borrowed his copy (PS3) to see how easy (or hard) it was to trigger this event, and funnily enough, with a luck level of 9, straight out of vault 101 at the dutch barn, first try the event triggered, now I'm going to assume, from the previous posts, that this, on my part, is sheer dumb luck. But hell, at least I got him a firelance....now to endure the pain and torture of obtaining my own...MagusNadimi 23:23, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

GETTING THE FIRELANCE FAIRLY

Dear Magnus, I suspect the odds against getting this weapon fairly are heavily stacked against you.To be sure of triggering the event at random if the odds go against you may require that you visit every random site in the Wasteland not even knowing where these sites all are. This means that if your luck during that game went against you, you must walk the Wasteland until you come to all the random sites and then if your random luck is still against you, you could like me spend over 400 hours and still never have the event happen. The reasons this weapon was ever found in the first place is that there are so many players out their playing Fallout 3 that even if the event only occured once in 1000 times there would still be hundreds writing in "rubbing our noses in the dirt" about how unlucky we are not to have found it. Still best of luck with your attempt.I don`t envy you..Keep us posted on your honest progress. At least the upgrades fixed that bug at Big Town that allowed cheaters to reach level 20 in a matter of minutes.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 09:45, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Weather here in the UK cold, windy and wet..No signs of Global warming..in fact just the opposite...!!! NEED HELP

I'm at Bethesda Ruins and am reloading my save to try to get the firelance. There is a wastelander with Jhon's key by the vicious dogs. Does this mean I can't get the firelance at Bethesda ruins ?..........................

== TRIGGER POINTS == South Coast UK...If on your next ettempt you still get the same event then you have already triggered this random event and will not get the FIRELANCE at this location...try the cliff top shack , the Dutch barn or some other location. The trouble with these random event location fields is that you don`t know you triggered the field until its too late.--ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 14:06, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Got my firelance 5th try using the Anchorage/wilhelms warf trick.

after the 5th try after i restarted fallout, i finally got the firelance. if your wondering why i had to restart fallout its because the firelance event happened to me on the second try with the anchorage/wilhems warf trick, but when i went up to the memorial none of the stuff was on the ground so i thought it just lagged out of existence, restarted fallout and went back to save, also saving when the firelance event is in mid flight before the explosion is a good tip, it allowed me to go back whenever i feel like it. but remember the anchorage/wilhelms warf trick only works if you have never been to the anchorage memorial before and have never discovered it. works pretty easy, no need for high luck either, did mine on the PC not sure if thats a factor.

Stuck on a Bridge most likely, No way of getting up there.

Well I passed Wilhelm's Wharf, and on my way under a bridge, I found one of the Power Cells, and next to it another. Now I found two more, one by the nearby tall building and another near the building opposite to it, but that's it, I have strong suspicion that it is on top of the bridge, but, unlucky for me, there's no way up there. I tried making a way up there using shopping carts from the nearby Super Duper Mart and parts of blown up cars...but...well, you can give it a try and see that you'd have more success stacking pencils length-by-length. Any suggestions?..... Try getting dogmeat to look in the Potomac river..many fall into the river especially at the Anchorage War Memorial --ThousandHoursFalloutThreeUK 13:58, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

New Game,New Firelance.

After starting a new game, I finally got the Firelance at the Anchorage Memorial on my 53rd reload, Level 2. I got 19 /24 ammo. The other four were in thedeep water and my rad levels were 4 away from 1000. I fast traveled away to get healed. New location for Firelance(?) - Around Fairfax Ruins

I was just walking around, exploring, when there was a huge explosion, the sky darkened and it started raining Alien Cells. I picked up all the cells I saw at the moment, but there was no gun. I didn't know about it (the gun) until a couple of days ago actually, so I didn't really bother. Is that it? Was there supposed to be a Firelance? Did I miss it?

The location is the square right of Fairfax Ruins, in the upper right corner (where the map lines cross on the Pip-Boy map). The top of the building is destroyed, and you can access the "second floor" (at least, what remains of it) by stairs. There's a circular hole in said second floor. There's also a iron fence at the back of the building, and part of it is knocked down.

I wanted to go check with Dogmeat, I had left him at my house but he disappeared.

Go get Dogmeat from Vault 101 and head back to Fairfax, you might be able to find the Firelance. You're one of the lucky few who has had the Firelance event occur for them without having to reload repeatedly. --Danap611 05:12, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Really people. If you have a question about the Firelance, please read the article we made for you before asking. Grandmaster Chen said it best:

The Firelance talk page is seriously going out of order. Too many people are treating this page as a forum and not as a wiki talk page. Please, if you need information on the Firelance, read the article before posting a question on the talk page, because often, people's questions don't need to be answered since the info is already displayed on the article. Also, please don't give us a full briefing on your experience in finding the firelance. As amusing as some of the stories are, we don't want them being posted on a wiki talk page. Go on forums if you want to share your experiences with other people. Really, the only things that warrant a place on the talk page are important things that are not mentioned on the article. We already have a list of locations on the Fallout 3 random encounters page so locations aren't necessary either.
So please stop posting messages about problems or personal experiences unless they are really important and aren't mentioned on the article.--Grandmaster Chen 16:31, September 3, 2009 (UTC)

Question About Dogmeat and this

Not sure where to put this, but it'll get seen here so: Would it be possible for someone to write/code/release a script for Dogmeat that means that if/when this occurs, he will automatically go and retrive stuff?

Set format

I reorganized some of the information on this page, since it seemed to me that some of the information was rather randomly spread throughout the page, without keeping similar information together. In light of my edit being reverted, is there a place that I can find preferred layouts for the different article types, so that I can rewrite articles according to what has been agreed upon by the community, rather than what seems logical to me? --GuildKnightTalk2me 06:55, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern. We are getting ready to start a weapons overhaul project which will have a project page that will describe in detail the decided upon format. Right now, for that reason certain articles are not being rewritten. The firelance articles format is similar to the guidelines we are currently establishing for general articles. Please refer to [[4]] to see the current progress and to add any helpful recommendations or ideas you wish. Thanks.--Kingclyde 07:20, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Better Criticals

The damage for this weapon could be improved massively with the better criticals perk, seeing as every shot is a critical. I havent got round to trying this yet though.

All discussion of how to force the firelance event should be placed in a forum. NOT HERE. There is too much clutter and it is being deleted. Refer to the following link:

Locations edit?

I discovered a Firelance with a handful of ammo located a stones throw from Minefield (note: I have all DLC enabled). It was located on a path, in plain sight (on a small rise on a path) just NORTH of a water tower located just NORTH-WEST of Minefield. Easy location to spot with the water tower being so obvious. As a I said, there was a handful of ammo strung along the path, almost as if the owner was running along the path, dropped some ammo, and finally dropped the Firelance. No sign of a body or other signs of a fight. The Firelance's condition was perfect/full HP (I have repair at 100 - not sure if that's a factor). 86.42.128.161 17:45, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

The firelance event happened and you just didn't see it.--Gothemasticator 17:49, October 31, 2010 (UTC)
The article already contains the info about locations. It's a random event and covered in the location tables in the relevant article.--Gothemasticator 17:54, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Overall DPS

Adjusting for flame damage, the firelance does 270 DPS. How can I add this to the chart?

didn't know

when the firelance fell from the sky i thought it was a raider shooting a missle lancher then i didnt know about the firelance so i just ignored it like i do every raider im mad now is does firelance appear twice? or am i out of hope for finding it.

You're out of luck, it's a one time thing. Kastera (talk) 05:34, June 22, 2011 (UTC)
However, I'm fairly sure it won't have disappeared, so if you remember where it happened, you can go back and find it. --With care and happiness, Supermutantslayer450' YOU. LOSE. 07:25, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

I swear that i found the firelance when i killed a raider. He only had 4 alien power cells for it though

Firelance ammo area fall

The smallest area of fall I have encountered so far for all 24 ammo cells was at the Super- Duper mart measuring 20 x 20 paces or 0.08acres and the largest I have measured so far was at the WKML station where the fall measured just over 1 acre due to the ammo rolling down the hill after the fall. The total measured distance was 76 x 65 running paces, or 1.0 acres which is a lot of area to search. --1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 18:32, September 9, 2012 (UTC)

xbox. More Firelance sounds. To recap: a brown puffy trail accompanied by a pulsing swooshing noise in the air followed by twin air explosions and if near enough accompanied by the sounds off falling metal capable of rocking vehicles and if hit , throwing the Red Racer Bike into the air. There is more. If you want to hear the main break up falling to earth it will be necessary to forget for the moment about the ammo and gun but concentrate instead upon the direction of the Alien Saucers approach and when certain, then from the explosion point run back down the approach path 75 running paces +- 5 to a very small trigger point. Turn up the base volume, and listen to yet another fall of heavy metal falling all around and echoing as it falls. Best attempted from the farm and Silo rear of Vault 101 since there is a clear view of the sky and a easy run down hill to the Northen entry point and second noise event. Not confirmed at many other locations because the terrain is so rough, buildings are in the way and the paces or direction cannot be followed. Confirmed OK for the Radio Tower." Can someone else confirm ?".Not to be confused with Mole rats or savage dogs attacking and exploding eye bots! --1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 05:01, September 14, 2012 (UTC)
