Discrepancy[]

There is a discrepancy. Megaton allows fast travel but Temple of the Union does not. I had to get to a fair distance before I was able to fast travel again. Why is this set up this way?--Amitakartok 20:24, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Because at one point Hamlin says you can't leave. This is to prevent that. Doesn't explain why you can't wait in Eulogys house. Fat Man Spoon 20:25, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, some parts of Paradise Falls prevent fast travel, too. Kris (talk) 23:17, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Sneak and Fast Travel[]

Sneaking is factored into the time spent fast travelling. I personally disagree with a full sneak penalty from location A to B since you'd never sneak the whole way, except for when encountering enemies you don't want to fight.

It should be taken into account though, since more time will pass if you sneak fast travel to your destination.

- A vendor may not be available

- You're a stealth character and depend more on low light

- You're afraid of the dark

- Perks affected by time of day

Really? I had no idea...--Amitakartok 19:33, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
I don't think so, but I can't be sure. Nitty Tok. 23:13, August 7, 2010 (UTC)
For PC players who use the console to alter the timescale setting (that's me; I prefer realtime instead of 30:1 compressed time), this will also have an effect on the time that passes during fast travel. Kris (talk) 23:17, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Fallout 3: fast travel and being irradiated[]

A recent edit brought this to mind. I'm sure I remember, in the past, where I was unable to fast travel due to being irradiated; specifically, I was in the White House crater. Yet much more recently, I've been able to fast travel without a problem while being irradiated; even while submerged in water with the breath timer ticking down. Was I imagining things? Was there an update to the game that changed this? Does Broken Steel change this? Kris mailbox 22:51, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

Fast traveling for passing game time[]

I added this useful topic, relevant to the last 2 games, under the New Vegas category for those who haven't thought of it. Played through most of the game and just recently thought of maximizing it's effectiveness as I described. I don't see what other page is more appropriate for the tip to be posted in, so I posted it here. Mainly typing this as anti-vandal admin Crazy sam10 seems to disapprove of my contribution. I know it doesn't look perfectly neat with the regular info regarding Fast Travel but ask around if it ain't "good to know."

It probably got removed because The Vault has a strict "no strategy" policy. Best regards, Kastera (talk) 18:05, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Console command for enabling fast travel?[]

I was fighting the Legion at Hoover Dam when I downloaded Dead Money and Honest Hearts. I had only 2 saves, one where the battle had started and one at ten levels below what I'm at now, so I used coc to get the hell outta there. Now I can't fast travel. Is there a command for it?

Use enablefasttravel 1 but this does not enable it forever or go to http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39304 to play after the final battle.

Beware, Fast Traveller...[]

Using Fast Travel will put you instantly near your destination... along with enemies that may have respawned.

In Lonesome Road, I'm level 50 and I fast traveled to Ruined Exchange... and appeared right next to 3 deathclaws. Needless to say, even with a dozen auto stimpaks and auto super stimpaks, I did not survive the experience (though I think in my panic I may have backed off a cliff) Kschang 02:24, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Damage/Rads[]

I noticed that in the list of events that prevent a player from fast-traveling to a discovered location, damage and rads aren't included. I know that in the segment regarding Fallout 3 it notates that being in combat will prevent fast travel, but it might do well to state more generally that if you're currently receiving damage for any reason you can't do it. Not quite as applicable in Fallout 3 as in New Vegas as there's a lot less in the way of damage-over-time effects (like poisons), but if for whatever reason you ARE taking damage, even if you're not specifically in combat or even close to an enemy, and you attempt fast travel, the notification you receive will still explicitly state that you can't do that because you're taking damage. Rads are the same way - it's not something that comes up a whole heck of a lot for me, but I did notice recently that while attempting to fast travel out of Camp Searchlight in New Vegas I wasn't allowed to because I was taking in rads.

The reasons are obvious - depending on circumstances the character could theoretically die while fast travelling. It just seems an addendum worth stating for the readers' reference.

Also I noticed that the section on New Vegas fast travel doesn't notate whether on Hardcore mode, the PC's FOD, SLP, and H20 will increase in correlation with the time spent traveling. Being a wuss incapable of lasting out Hardcore mode but so far myself I haven't experienced the problem, but I have read elsewhere that it's possible to find the PC dead on arrival after a fast travel if the time spent traveling causes them to max out one of these stats.

I'd add these edits on my own, but first I need to double check in my own game. It's hard to think of any examples of non-combat damage-over-time in FO3 that would prevent fast travel, but again, with poisons and honestly just BEING in the Sierra Madre in one of the add-ons, as well as other gameplay additions, there's an abundance of preventative DOT in FONV. As for the Hardcore stats in FONV, again, I'll need to check these facts or have a more experienced player confirm or deny before I'm comfortable adding it in.

Crashing while Fast Travel[]

I am attempting Honest Hearts on PC, winxpsp3.

After talking the first time with Joshua, now I am trying to get back to the Southern Passage to store my heavy loots there. The first time FT is okay, but then it crashed, I suspect it due to other cause. The later times, none succeed. Always crash while FT.

Anyone know anything about this type of crash?Laclongquan (talk) 07:58, February 28, 2013 (UTC)

Fo4 Fast Travel Time[]

Does anybody happen to have the formula for how long fast travel takes? Making a survival mode fast travel mod and I need some concrete numbers. Fruckert (talk) 18:17, June 19, 2016 (UTC)

Amazing[]

Incredible. FO and 2 and Tactics were way ahead of their time, it seems, implementing fast travel even before Bethesda invented it. Also they managed to slow down "instant" travel to a slow crawl across the world map. Astounding. VvAnarchangelvV (talk) 06:24, April 11, 2019 (UTC)
