When editing an article, they ask for help with another one that's supposed to be related. I found that the relationship of the topics is extremely different or absolutely non-existant. Main page redesign

I've been working on a main page redesign on User:Kirkburn/Dev - I'd love to get some feedback on it. You can find out more about why it's there on User talk:Kirkburn/Dev. Thanks! Kirkburn (talk) 13:28, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much, but I prefer the current one, without the content area ads (with only a banner that doesn't break the main page layout). Ausir 00:59, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Ausir, I'm afraid the new ads are coming. They are needed to support the free hosting we offer and will be shown on all wikis. We have tried to minimise the impact of this by removing ads on all other pages for logged in users - not a perfect solution of course, but we hope it will help. What's needed on the main page is a 300px column on the right. That will prevent the main page content being pushed down by the second ad when it shows. I've adjusted Kirkburn's draft to be as much like the current main page as possible. Hopefully that will help in the transition. -- sannse (talk) 20:19, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Is it just me, or do we have a redundant link with the menu on the side? we have the menu>fallout3 tab and also the menu>fallout games>fallout3 tab, surely we only need one of them? I vote for the menu>fallout3 one, because with the generational gap between the old games and the new one it helps partition areas of the site, and stopping pages becoming cluttered with stuff from different games, like the Age of Empires wiki --Frostedfire 02:00, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
It is the same universe, so some mixing will occur anyway, but I agree that the games should be used as main groups for the articles. - Redmess 23:07, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Logo Fix

No one reads the MediaWiki talk pages, so I thought I'd add a link here. Just a small suggestion to change the background behind the logo to transparent instead of white. MediaWiki_talk:Monaco.css --Odie5533 12:25, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Timeline and Contents

I think the timeline should only be linked to from the main page and the box containing the contents be moved to the spot where the timeline was. --Odie5533 05:15, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

What would be the point of that? That Furry Bastard 09:13, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

News

Alright, so how does one go about adding news to that box on the main page? It says somewhere to add it to the "News" section, but I don't know how to do that and I don't want to go screwing something up by trying to figure out through trial and error. I already have the article up on my blog. That's at this location. Mister President 01:34, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

First of all, you add it by adding "[[Category:News]] to the post. Second, I don't really think the marriage proposal thing qualifies as news. It's funny, but I think it should stay as a regular newspost. Ausir(talk) 01:39, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
I was thinking of it along the lines of that laser rifle thing that I saw up a while ago. Something interesting to throw out there. So that brings up the question, what makes something real news? Mister President 00:49, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Thing is, this is not really something new, as it's been posted months ago already in our forum, IIRC. How about you modify your post or post again, but this time include info about the interview with the people behind the mod from BethBlog, which is actually something new? Ausir(talk) 01:03, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
That's what I saw and planned on posting. I just couldn't figure out how. And I put up the wrong URL. Mister President 00:43, October 20, 2009 (UTC)
How about having several gaming sites feed articles into the news section? It would be a good way to connect the wiki to the outer world. - Redmess 23:10, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Malware?

Every time I visit an article, google tells me that the site contains malware and that i should leave the site. WTF? This has never happened to me before

Eh, maybe Google's paranoid. Nitty Tok. 22:27, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
It seems Google flagged one of Wikia's ad networks as "potentially serving bad content" which caused the users of some browsers such as Chrome getting that warning. Wikia has disabled the ad network in question - if you run into it again, please leave a message in the thread on Community Central. -- Porter21 (talk) 01:54, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

I'm 100% sure this problem still hasn't been resolved. The malware problems are real and present within the ad network. This problem has been present on most wikia pages for the past few weeks, but from what I understand the Fallout wiki has it worse than most. At first I thought the ads were a result of a java vulnerability exploit, but even without java plugins enabled you probably have about a 1-3% chance of getting redirected to a fake malware removal website if you open ANY page on the Fallout wiki. The blog post acknowledging the problem can be found here: http://community.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:KyleH/Malware_warnings_on_Wikia . You can see I already complained on there, but it looks like someone else has had problems on this particular wiki.

They recommend using the http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contact page to report these problems, and I've already turned in about 4 URLs over the past week.

For anyone just browsing the Fallout wiki, I'd recommend having some sort of active anti-malware software running while browsing, such as AVG, Norton Internet Security, or Windows Security Essentials. The fake malware websites seem to try to use the SHeur2 trojan to run an executable 'av.exe' which runs as a background process. Check task manager to see if this process is running if you think you've been infected, stop the process, and then run your anti-malware software to remove the trojan and undo any damage it may have caused.

Sorry for the long rant, but I hope this helps anyone with concerns about this topic!

Changing article editor?

I know, i know...they gonna eat me alive for even mentioning this, BUT you must watch other wikis, most of them have a much more simple and easy-to-handle editor, so...i'm just sayin'. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 03:34, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

We use to have a simple editor (forgot it's name), but we removed it because it sucked and was useless. Insane! 03:40, January 18, 2011 (UTC)

It may have sucked to you, but I miss it. The new editor damn near crashes Firefox, does crash the Steam overlay browser, and lags my rig far more than New Vegas itself can! So disappointing, a wiki edit page stressing my rig more than a 3D RPG...OI! Sometimes simpler is just better, and honestly how hard is it to put a toggle switch in our preferences for those of us who still want to use it? I'm the best at space!

i have a 500 dollar laptop that can hardly support civilization 3 and im not having any problems, there is definitely something wrong with your computer

Autofocus

Maybe with some help of JavaScript it is possible to have the search box autofocussed. In the most cases I visit the main page I just want to search something and it would be great if the click into the search box is no longer necessary :) ColdDevil 15:29, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Glitch

Hi. I'm an anonomys user. I don't know if you are aware of this but pages sometimes zoom in and 1/4 of the page is missing from the left. Please find a fix for this issue. Thanks. Sorry about below. Still new. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.116.245.241 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

There's probably little this wiki's contributors can do about this unfortunately. Your best chance of getting it fixed is by reporting it to Wikia (the host) via Special:Contact. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:37, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

That may be an issue caused by your browser. I use Google Chrome and I have not seen that happen. Nebenthe 14:29, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Possible Inventory Table

Same user as above. I was wondering if it wasn't too much trouble to put up a table in a merchant's page with their available items for sale and what conditions must be met for them to be there. I think this may be too much but I know alot of people would find this useful. Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.19.227.186 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I agree. Why don't we have something like this? A table of the items always sold and the leveled items? Chaos ian7 04:16, February 8, 2011 (UTC)
It's certainly a reasonable suggestion - but it's also a lot of work ;) There's a project to get those inventories on the wiki (The Vault:Fallout 3 merchant overhaul project), but there hasn't been much progress yet. You're welcome to contribute :) -- Porter21 (talk) 18:31, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

What the Krypta?

Mmm'kay, could somebody please tell me why the vault logo thing now says Krypta? I'm not the only person this has happened to, btw. --Valoopy sig Valoopy 01:33, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

'Krypta' is the Polish version of the Vault, and that's the new logo that they're using. I'm not sure why it's there, but the history for the wordmark says that Ausir uploaded it back in November (which can't be true).
I suspect this might be a bug with our 'shared image repository', which allows for the images uploaded to the English wiki, to be posted on other versions of the Vault. The problem is, that it's not supposed to work both ways, meaning that images uploaded to other versions of the Vault can't be used here and they also shouldn't overwrite our existing images. But the fact that the new logo for the Polish Vault was uploaded today makes me believe that this is in fact the case. --Anon(Talk) 02:03, June 27, 2011 (UTC)
Update: Just reverted the file to its previous version (English version), and it appears that the Polish wordmark has changed as well. I'm going to send a message to Wikia, so they can fix it. --Anon(Talk) 02:21, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Cutscenes in Bethesda games like Fallout?

What's your opinion? Should future games from Bethesda have cutscenes?

What happens if Interplay wins the Beth vs. Interplay suit?

What exactly happens if Bethesda loses the Bethesda vs. Interplay suit? Does Interplay just gain the rights to make Fallout Online? Or do they recieve Fallout again? I know that the terms of the lawsuit has changed many times. Can someone clear it up please? Thanks.

67.142.174.21 23:48, October 31, 2011 (UTC)Lambent

IANAL but there's two lawsuits currently, the BvIP and the IPvB. If Bethesda loses the first one then they just go about their business, but if they lose the second one then they lose the franchise. Limmiegirl 00:11, November 1, 2011 (UTC)

My weapons keep disapearing. I had in equipment: 3 antimaterial rifles, 3 sniper rifles, 2 fatman nuke launchers, 2 mini guns, 3 light machine guns, 3 missle launchers, 3 .44 magnum pistols and other equipment that didn't come up missing. After an engagement with at the legion raiding camp heading NNW I also came upon a legion assasination squad in that mix making the number 13 legioneers when we came out of the fight I only had 2 sniper rifles, 1 mini gun, 1 light machine gun,1 fat man nuke launcher, and 1 missle launcher.
