Dogmeat won't get any weaponsEdit

Every time i ask dogmeat for a weapon, even if i drop one right in front of him he just goes back into dialogue a secong after i tell him to fech something, it is really frustrating, has anyone else experienced this problem?

Sorry figured it out myself, he will not pick up anything stolen even if you drop it so that solves the problems of the weapons just for anyone who has this problem.

Some have said you find him in the pax demo in a junkyard, so there is some spec.

That's not spec then that's confirmed and it's been confirmed since the recent "In my hometown" Fallout 3 trailer where you see that the characters in the junk yard and sign your comments using four of these ~ -Vault009Dweller 21:21, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Disappearing bug and solution Edit

Anoyone want to confirm this before it goes in the article? I had this bug on the Xbox 360. I told Dogmeat to wait while I stealth killed the group of raiders in the connected houses in Dupont circle. He was on the sidewalk, right outside their house, on the spur toward the Metro Junction entrance. Having killed the Raiders, I returned to find him gone. He was on my compass and I could hear him, but I couldn't see or interact with him. I left the zone and came back, but he was still invisible. I left again for a while, figuring he was hosed. I came back again after a while, though, and he had moved to more of the middle of the street, maybe 10 to 20 feet from where he had been. It became clear that he was actually underground. In his new position, I could barely see his ears stick up through a crack in the street. With those visible, I was able to talk to him and tell him to follow me, so that when I left the zone he spawned with me. Very weird.

Question on leveling Dogmeat? Edit

Will Dogmeat level up and become godly even if I just leave him at my home in Megaton? Or does Dogmeat have to be with me and fight with me to level up. I don't want to have him die over and over and reloading constantly to train him. I have fallout 3 for the 360 and I have the broken steel DLC ( downloaded it before I found Dogmeat). Thanks in advance.-Anonymous

With Broken Steel installed before getting dogmeat he'll level just like any other follower. When you do no matter where he is.

Does Dogmeat only start levelling from the moment he is found or does he come pre-levelled to match your own once you find him?
This may not be a complete answer; nevertheless I’m a big fan of Dogmeat so I’m posting what I came across…
I picked up Dogmeat approx. LVL 10-11 (can’t remember exactly). Then without levelling I ran across a Super Mutant Overlord wielding a Chinese Assault Rifle. With Dogmeat tanking… I finally managed to kill it after unloading 6-8 clips 75% headshot (yeah, I got pretty bad aim) Chinese Assault Rifle @32 dam (via PiP Boy). Dogmeat only managed to suffer 2-3 ticks of health loss through the entire battle AND he was the only one targeted!!! I seem to suffer more damage from a Master with a Regular Assault Rifle! Through other readings and my brother game (360, mine on PS3) Dogmeat is extremely weak (My brother picked up Dogmeat at LVL 18 and the next multiple encounter battle, he died). This would lean towards the indication that Dogmeat does come levelled… provided DLC is installed prior to picking up Dogmeat.
I got to level 19 before picking up Dogmeat, on PC with Broken Steel. I wanted to see how much health he had which I'm only able to do using VATS. I tried to kill with the Kneecapper but it really seems that he has more health than I do and after he turned hostile he was hurting me faster than I was able to hurt him, which is quite a feat with the Kneecapper. So I agree that he comes levelled. If you have Broken Steel and if you don't want him to keep dying early on just wait until you're a higher level before picking him up.

Dogmeat Leveling Confirmed For PS3 Edit

Just confirming that dogmeat also levels for the PS3. I have the GOTY edition with the Broken Steel expansion already included and dogmeat levels up with me.

Dogmeat - Solution to the game-breaking door problem at 106 Edit

Ok, so I know a LOT of people have the problem where they go into 106, close the door and then save inside. I know I did it to myself and the only other save I had was HOURS back (about 6 exp levels worth of exploration). Anyway, the point is that once locked inside the vault, I found that I could open the main vault door by telling Dogmeat to go and wait at vault 101. He just walks over to it and BINGO it opens from inside without needing any kind of interaction.

Do you guys want to try it for yourself and confirm? I did it 10 times to be sure and it opened the door every single time. Obviously, this only helps people who still have him with them at the time, but one more option is better than none, right? :)

Dogmeat and sneaking Edit

Til now, you can forget to sneak up on an enemy if you have dogmeat with you. (He will attack instantly if the enemy gets close enough). But I've found a mod, which turns him into a vialble Stealthy companion. Download the mod here -> www.Fallout3nexus.com

RefID and BaseID confusions Edit

Ok, people are posting incorrect information regarding what to use for the PRID command also also for the SetEssential command. PRID uses the RefID while SetEssential uses the BaseID, so one of them HAS to be wrong.

If you open up the console and click on Dogmeat, that number is the RefID, which is used for moveto and PRID commands, NOT SetEssential. 6a772 is the code for SetEssential, while 6a775 is used for moveto and PRID.

Junkyard Edit

iv looked all over the junk yard and cant find him, the raiders were there and i killed them but no dog, any one else has same problem?

  • If you visited the junkyard and left without getting Dogmeat and returned later, he will be gone. It is still possible to find him through random encounter. I personally found Dogmeat while following Mr Crowley to Fort Constantine, in a random encounter. I happened to save it just before hand though, and through many trial and error re-loads I was finally able to get him by himself, (without having to subject myself to a fight from mercs). Schizmoooo 12:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

The same thing happend to me where he wasnt there. He appeared there after i got the Xuanlong assault rifle from th e Museum of Technology side quest (unmarked). User:XTraunx

Easy way to find dogmeat is to type player.moveto 0006a775 in console and you'll be teleported to him.

I actually found him outside of the Regulator HQ after a random freaking Deathclaw came out of nowhere and attacked me. He was attacking the Deathclaw

laser dog :( Edit

i see you removed the laser dog animation, anyone has a link to another place where its uploaded? really loved the animation :P

You can still find it in the Wazer Wifle article. Molechops 06:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Note that the original SA post about this has an animated .gif showing the dog "barking lasers"...and the .gif is named "shhhthisisajoke.gif"

Yes if anyone edits this article to say that you can equip Dogmeat with the Wazer Wifle, please delete it.

Console equipping the Wazer Wifle on DogmeatEdit

Well you can technically equip him with anything you like by clicking him in the console and typing "additem" and the item's ID number, then typing "equipitem" and then typing the id number again. "Showinventory" will show that the item is worn but say it cannot be equipped. I've added some ammo to test it, but haven't run into anything where Dogmeat has actually used the weapon I gave him. ~ Anon: Nov 14th

But does it works, Anon? Firelance 02:52, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

  • I can add things to his inventory and foce him to equip them, but I sort of went into {possible spoiler} and {possible spoiler} with some of the residents there making a couple of them sort of {possible spoiler} shortly afterwards and never had an opportunity to test. I had gotten a little frustrated with what I had done in the {possible spoiler} so I put the game down for a bit and haven't been able to see if Dogmeat actually fires the gun I gave him. Another reason it's hard to test is because my other follower kills things very very quickly so I would have to leave him behind and see if Dogmeat does anything besides bite. ~ Anon: Nov 14th
    • Having left my other follower behind and tested it, I encountered a number of odd bugs. Firstly, Dogmeat will stop following occasionally and just sit there. At one point I thought I had lost him so I used "player.placeatme" to summon him back. Saw his inventory was empty again so gave him the weapon and ammo again. Then out of the blue, comes the original Dogmeat. Now I have 2 Dogmeats with pathing problems. The second and more obvious bug is that when you equip the weapon, it slides along on the ground beneath him, then at one point, a duplicate was floating above and ahead of him. Both rifle models were laying on their left side as if dropped. I left my other non-Dogmeat follower behind at one point to see if the rifle would fire. I thought I had some success at first, but then found out I was fighting a protectron and I couldn't tell where the laser bolts were coming from. It looked as if Dogmeat was standing still and barking them out, but I couldn't be sure. Unfortunately, my other follower was too close and killed the Protectron before it could be tested further. Later I found some ferals and Dogmeat went into melee. I checked and saw that it had unequipped the rifle so I re-equipped it, but it still did not use it. Tried again against a robobrain (this is where that second rifle model appeared) and Dogmeat, no matter how many times I would console equip the rifle, would not use it. So no. Even if you cheat and add a rifle into Dogmeat's inventory, give it ammo and then use the console to force the dog to equip it, the weapon will go unused. Perhaps it is because Dogmeat defaults to melee and perhaps giving it a ripper or shishkabob would work, but I don't really feel like looking up more codes and doing more testing. With the pathing problems that result from messing with his inventory, it's not really worth the time. ~ Anon: Nov 14th

where Edit

yo I left the dog to search for ammo, then he ran away to get it, and then i fast travel, but then he didnt was with me and i cant find him at vault 101 where is he now?

Where is the closest place to fast-travel in order to find the Scrapyard?

answer: Minefield, south by south-west. (Travel south until you get to a dark circle looking area on the world map, then head due east.) You should arrive shortly. Haven't tested the method, but that's the way it looks on the map.

Discovering Dogmeat Edit

In the Dogmeat article text, it mentions that he's simply found attacking a group of Raiders. I don't know if anyone else had this happen in their game, but I also discovered a Wastelander's body right with the Raiders. In the first bits of dialog with the dog, the Player empathizes with the dog losing its master. I didn't actually see the fight start...I heard the commotion and got there in time to see the fight end...but I came away with the assumption that Dogmeat belonged to the Wastelander. The Raiders besieged them, killed the Wastelander, and Dogmeat killed the Raiders.

But maybe there wasn't a Wastelander there in anyone else's game. If there was though, I'd propose that the main article be amended to show that the dog was avenging its fallen master when the player arrived, rather than just killing raiders for seemingly no reason.

I also thought the same thing after finding Dogmeat and agree this seems to be the most plausible scenario.

JaysonAych 09:13, 17 November 2008 (UTC) JaysonAych

No, you're right- there's the body of a Wasteland Scav nearby. The general assumption you could make is that he was part of those Scav/Pet pairs that you see all over the wasteland looking for bits of junk or the like. --68.111.251.45 16:56, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I was under the assumption that it was Eulogy's dog. Right after I found him, I went to Paradise Falls. I went into Eulogy's pad, he was yelling at whoever that guy is that stands in there, and one of his sentences was "... and where the hell is my damn dog‽" --HarrisonH 00:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I noticed that the scav's head explodes every time you resurrect him. I don't know why, but I say that lends credence to the idea that Dogmeat was with the scav.69.204.144.51

On both occasions I encountered Dogmeat he was instead of fighting raiders, fighting Enclave troops and with no dead wastelander in sight.. I also didn't encounter him at the Scrapyard but instead on two different occasions else where, the first being near vault 101 and the second at Greener Pasturers Disposal Site. I have never been to Scrapyard in the entirety of my game.

When I found Dogmeat he had already killed the raiders and then I came across the Wastelander who said something about bombs being strapped to her so I attempted to disarm the bomb (Explosives at level 60) and failed and she ran away and blew up. I'm going to assume the raiders strapped her with the bombs and then got killed by Dogmeat.

vault 101 Edit

I sent dogmeat to vault 101 when he was stuck. and after i finish my quest i went to vault 101 which he wasnt there then i went to where he was stuck and he wasnt there either. anyone else have the problem? --Dalton3512 20:31, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Moved from Glitches section Edit

(For example, When I was In the Middle of The Waters of Life quest, I was At the Part where You have to Escort the NPCs to the Citadel from the Taft Tunnels, After Charon, and I killed some of the Enclave Soldiers, I encountered Dogmeat, Who I had Left in the Safety of My Megaton home, I was Suprised, but Told him to Follow anyways, Later, Tesla armor sporting Enclave soldiers Killed Charon, so I Reloaded a Past save, Which was before I encountered Dogmeat, I later Recieved the Message which Informed me The Dogmeat was Waiting for me In front of Vault 101, Once we Arrived at The Citadel, I traveled to Vault 101, Only to find Dogmea t, I then Traveled back to Megaton, and Put him back in My home).

Strange glitch killed dogmeat for me. I was in the Bomb Storage building at Fort Constantine and he was growling at a Sentry Bot in a key-locked room when I exited the building. Outside, I fast-traveled to Megaton. Upon arrival I was alerted to his death. I loaded my last autosave which was outside the Bomb Storage at Constantine and immediately was informed that "Dogmeat has died". The last non-autosave was 8 hours of major progress prior so the lesson here is don't trust autosaves to keep your dog alive. Also this would seem to indicate that if Dogmeat is "engaged in combat" or within a certain proximity of an enemy then leaving that area can have the effect of instantly killing him. 76.103.182.3 11:01, 14 December 2008 (UTC) Grav

I'm surprised everyone doesn't save every 10-30 mins alternating a few save slots like I do being with the game is so buggy.
Same thing happened to me with other NPCs (Fawkes and Charon), it appears the glitch is not with Dogmeat but that Fort Constantine building. --Voidvector 16:51, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Is it still possible on the Patched (1.2) Xbox 360 version to kill dogmeat and thus have a secondary companion spot?

Breed Edit

This article says Dogmeat is an Alaskan Malamute, but Cultural references in Fallout 3 (under Mad Max) says he is a Queensland Heeler. So which is it? --Derek505 04:27, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

It isn't. The original in-game Dogmeat looked a bit like Husky (as seen here [1]). Also in the original Fallouts, this image shows [2] that it looks more like Mudi, or somewhat similar shepherd dog, probably a mixbreed.
The article about Dogmeat in Fallout 3 says that Dogmeat in Fallout 3 is a descendant to the original Dogmeat, saying that it is the same breed as the original Dogmeat, or a mixbreed that would be :more understandable in these circumstances. Dogmeat in Fallout 3 [3] looks more like short hair, or rough hair, wolfdog. Maybe a mix of a wolf and Husky?
Mad Max's dog is Australian Cattle Dog (aka Australian Heeler, Hall's Heeler, Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler) seen here [4] and doesn't look at all like Dogmeat. Dogmeat is more muscular and has more girth than Max's dog.
So in my opinion, Dogmeat in Fallout 3 is a mixbreed of maybe a Husky, a wolf and some shepherd dog. --82.197.10.233 16:19, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat has two different colored eyes, which is very common in the Australian Shepard breed... maybe some of that in there?

Dogmeat is to small to be a husky or wolf, he is closer to a blue heeler in size, and looks. kthx.

Dogmeat in Fallout 3 is definitely not a purebred blue heeler. His face bares some resemblance, but anatomically he's far too tall & not stocky enough. I agree with the first 2 responses, possibly with some blue heeler.

Vault 87 Edit

Hi all. I was in Little Lamplight heading back into Vault 87 after Finding the Garden of Eden quest. I made Dogmeat wait in Murder Pass. Well, I found the entrance Colonel Autumn uses to blast in and had a look around.. and found Dogmeat asleep on his side on the stairs. I had the option to talk to him, but nothing happened. On exit back to Lamplight, I found Dogmeat had disappeared, residing forever in the depths. Has anyone else experienced this? It might be worth seeing if any other disappeared NPCs appear here. XBOX version. Major T0m 11:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

yes i have seen this because when i was going through the vault 87 i passed fawkes and after he retrived the G.E.C.K i walked out while dogmeat and paladin cross were following me and then he came out of the door and i lost them both and after a long time of going all the way through there again searching i found nothing so i went to the citidel and paladin cross was there but i went to the scrapyard and no one was there would you know where he would be if not there?

Dogmeat will go to Vault 101 and wait there when you get captured by the Enclave. All other followers will return to where you acquire them if possible, ie Jericho can be found at Moriarty's Saloon in Megaton. Note that the act as if you fired them. They will still be wearing armour that they were when you were captured (I had given Jericho Tesla Armour).

Note also, that if you try and re-recruit a follower who needs a certain karma, if that has changed while you were exploring, you will now not be able to get them back unless you change your karma again. In this way, any items they were carrying have been lost. Sacrificial Khaos 20:35, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

The Waters of LifeEdit

Before I started The Waters of Life quest, I told Dogmeat to stay at my home in Megaton. When I got to the part where we are trying to escape through the sewers under the Jefferson Memorial, Dogmeat magically appeared. --MadDawg2552 21:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat has some serious issues with the waters of life quest. Best way to avoid problems is to tell him to wait at vault 101 before starting the quest. This also prevents dogmeat from going missing after the quest when you go to retrieve him from in front of your house or where ever else you left him.

Missing dogmeat Edit

i entered the deathclaw sanctuary but before i did i told dogmeat to wait outside vault 101. i later fast traveled there and he wasn't there. i never received a messege saying dogmeat is waiting at vault 101 any ideas? XBOX version

Dogmeat and Charon get stuck (Patched)Edit

PS3 with Patch 1.1: I already had Charon as a follower and went to the Scrapyard, triggered the Dogmeat spawn, picked up Dogmeat as a second follower, and left the Scrapyard out of the main south gate and started walking west. After an encounter with a Radscorpion, I noticed that neither Dogmeat nor Charon were in sight! I backtracked and found both stuck in a clear area, no obvious glitch situations. I was able to get Dogmeat moving, but Charon wouldn't budge, unless I told Dogmeat to wait. Then Charon would follow. I tried reloading several times, both before triggering the Dogmeat spawn and after picking him up, same thing would happen. I tried walking out different exits, same thing. No matter what, one or both NPCs get stuck in a clear area and won't budge. Anyone else see this?

Funny side story - one time, I tried telling Dogmeat to wait right where I found him. After testing to make sure Charon would follow, I went back to Dogmeat and told him to follow too. He tried, but he was glitched. He couldn't find a way out of where he was, even though it was clear and I could go in an out easily. Finally, I got so desperate I blew up a bus that was walling in one side of the area that Dogmeat couldn't leave. Of course, that killed Dogmeat. Immediately, Charon turned hostile on me and killed me. LOL, had no idea Charon was a dog lover. --PapaCharlie9 21:07, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

"Dogmeat maybe a girl, due to dialogue in The Pitt. Edit

"Dogmeat maybe a girl, due to dialogue in The Pitt." - If Dogmeat is with you while you go to the Pitt, at the hand-cart, Wernher will tell you that "she" can't come along. You can then respond: are you sure "she" can't come?

Care to elaborate? --MadCat221 06:01, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

- If Dogmeat is with you while you go to the Pitt, at the hand-cart, Wernher will tell you that "she" can't come along. You can then respond: are you sure "she" can't come? --Lehvi Dession

No he doesn't. There's a specific line of dialogue for each companion and Dogmeat's is "Relax. It's not about you. It's about your dog. We only have enough supplies for two. He's gonna have to stay behind. Besides, we don't need some filthy mutt tagging along with us. He'll only get in the way."
It's also worth mentioning that Fawkes' line also calls him a man. –RpehTCE 08:33, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Fawkes IS a man. Wes made a mistake. Beth has repeatedly stated that Fawkes is male. TunnelSnake 12:31, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Werhner does call Dogmeat a boy - but I did notice (having played the Pitt just awhile ago) that your response is "are you sure she can't come?" Dogmeat would appear to be female. Niirfa-sa 08:10, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
So if there are several of lines of dialog referring to Dogmeat as a male, and one line of dialog referring to Dogmeat as a female, your conclusion is that "Dogmeat would appear to be female?" That's an interesting little spin on deductive reasoning. 12.204.48.130 07:33, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Other than Wernher's lines (which could easily be a mistake given the player's dialogue corrects him) I can't remember any references to Dogmeat's gender. Feel free to elaborate. Niirfa-sa 00:26, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, if people who have been with Dogmeat for the entire game don't know what gender (s)he is, how would some guy youve never seen before know?--TheFrogger 00:35, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
Niirfa-sa: I will be glad to elaborate. Aim your targeting reticle at Dogmeat and press your "use" key / button to enter dialog with him. Read the dialog options, and then look up the word "boy" in a dictionary. Sheesh.12.204.48.130 07:37, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

- in Broken Steel DLC there is a perk called puppies so when dogmeat dies you can find one of her puppies that would support dogmeat being a girl

The creation of puppies requires both a male and female. Both the male and female get to refer to the puppies as 'theirs', so "Dogmeat's Puppies" isn't gender specific enough to support either conclusion as to Dogmeat's gender.
Also, here's the EXACT quote from perk on perk screen "With the Puppies! perk, if Dogmeat dies, you'll be able to get a new canine companion from his litter of puppies. Just wait a bit, and you'll find your new furry friend waiting outside Vault 101." Yes puppies require 2 parents, male an female, but it clearly states "his litter", meaning HE is the FATHER. It never once says anything about "her puppies".

Retrieving ItemsEdit

Hi, I found Dogmeat yesterday, and im still unfamiliar with him.
* When you tell him to go retrieve ammo, does dogmeat's AI tell him where ammo/an ammo box is and make him retrieve it? same question with the chems and food
*In the Xbox version, can dogmeat travel to areas far away from my location that havent been loaded?
*If dogmeat does find food/chems/ammo, exactly how does he give it to you? Is there a dialogue option? Or does it just say that (blank) has been added to your inventory?
*If dogmeat is attacked, does he become hostile? If he does, can you yield to him? Unfortunately, I can't answer the questions myself... I play at my uncle's house only periodically... thanks.

1. Dogmeat will usually detect any nearby ammo on his own- this includes ammo on dead bodies or in nearby structures.
2. Dogmeat will often appear next to you if you fast-travel to other locations- occasionally, usually when searching the area for anything, it's possible to lose track of him, sometimes in areas with active enemies that could potentially kill him. Should you lose track of him, you can always fast-travel to get him back.
3. When finding ammo/chems/food/weapons, it'll just show dialogue stating that you've gained an item.
4. Dogmeat will immediately approach you when you're within distance of him. As far as I can tell, he doesn't turn on you before the option to recruit him shows up, and after that point, he won't turn on you if you accidentally hit him during combat- you can, however, accidentally kill him, so watch your fire all the same. --Kajex Firedrake 12:23, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat's item retrieval doesn't work for me. Most of the time, when I tell him to find an item, he just stands there. Occasionally it works and it used to work for me a while ago, but it suddenly stopped working at some point. -Nymphonomicon 04:03, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I used to have this problem it seems he won't pick up anything stolen but if you make him it will stop him finding other things, just drop unstolen weapons in front of him for a while until he picks them up when you ask him, cause that made mine fix itself.

PUPPIES!!!! Edit

i wonder if it means that dogmeat will just respawn or actualy respawn as a baby :)

If he dose... i don't think he'll last long.

When he respawns, you basically just have dogmeat with a different name. Spawns as the same level, same image, etc.

Brayy 19:49, October 26, 2009 (UTC)brayy

I think the idea of him being reincarnated as a puppy (as said in the perk information) is quite interesting. He may not even be Dogmeat's puppy (as his name would suggest) but Dogmeat Puppy. It is quite an interesting topic of consideration. Another theory could be that the Dogmeat Puppy is a clone of the original. As for his base health being doubled; it could be because he is younger and thus in better shape, or (using the clone theory) the clone could be superior to the original, due to enhanced genetics. In the scenario where it is indeed Dogmeat's puppy, it becomes a possibility that the puppy has more health because of Dogmeat's mate possessing a gene for superior health, and this gene may have been passed on to Dogmeat's puppy. In order for a more specific conclusion, I would require more evidence and quite possibly proof.--James Andrew Walker 23:39, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

Did I miss something here? Edit

"Not completely sure if this is supposed to happen or not, but I was going to kill Dogmeat so that I could have an extra companion slot, after I killed him I went to get Sergeant RL-3 but he and Tinkerer Joe were hostile. So I reloaded my save game and had Charon go back to the Ninth Circle. I recruited RL-3 then shot dogmeat, and on my way to get Charon, Fawkes was hostile and attacked me. After killing Fawkes, I went and got Charon, who thankfully wasn't hostile." ... I just want to know if this seems unusual to just me- I was under the impression that you could only recruit Dogmeat and one companion, not two non-Dogmeat companions.--Kajex Firedrake 21:48, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

In my experience you can have a number of followers without glitching, I've had Dogmeat, Fawkes, and Charon all at once no problem --76.8.114.139 06:39, October 7, 2009 (UTC)K-Anator

The possible companions will get hostile if they see you shoot Dogmeat. Also, if you have 2 companions and kill one of them, the other will attack you as soon as he/she is fired. To avoid turning anyone hostile, shoot Dogmeat out of sight Setimir92 21:16, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Finding Dogmeat at Lincoln Memorial?Edit

I was doing the quest Head of State, and as I was killing Slavers, I heard a growl from behind. I turned to see Dogmeat fighting Slavers. I didn't recruiting, nor had I been to Scrapyard. After all the Slavers were dead, I talked to him, and the usual conversation when you first initiate in speech with him came on. I recruited him. Later, Hannabil tried to shoot him, but none of the other Slaves. I killed Hamlin for no karma, and the other Slaves didn't become hostile.

Invincible Edit

It seems to me that after the Broken steel DLC Dogmeat is nearly invincible he took on 4 giant scorpions at once, and only lost 1 bar of life total. Also on the same account Fawkes seems to be invincible too. So maybe its related. (Xbox 360)

Seems to be an issue on the PC as well, at least for me. On the PC version, I have the ability to actually check his health (using the console command getav health with him targeted), and it is GOING UP. He currently has 5,000 health points. (Ten times as much as he's suppoed to have, as I do not have the Puppies! perk.) I had only checked him once before, and he had closer to 4,000 at that time, but he may have been injured. I'm not sure whether it's actually going up, or if it's just 5,000 when he's not in combat. I'll check him again from time to time and report any interesting discoveries. I had originally used the console to set him to essential, but he NEVER got knocked unconscious, so I got curious and checked his health. Imagine my surprise! I have Broken Steel installed, and he was definitely NOT this healthy before I installed it. Of course, I also installed the 1.5 patch at the same time, so it may be related to that. For now, I think we can consider this "confirmed" on the PC version as well. (To be completely scientific about it, I should probably start a new game with no user-created mods running, but I'm too lazy... however, none of the mods I'm using are supposed to alter Dogmeat's health in any way.) GOOD BOY! P.S: It is worth noting, so I'll add this.... when I first installed the Broken Steel DLC and the 1.5 patch, I had already acquired Dogmeat BEFORE installing the patch and the DLC, and in THAT game, he behaved correctly (i.e. got owned frequently). It was only after I started a new game and actually acquired Dogmeat with the patch and DLC both running that he became UberDog.12.204.48.130 10:40, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
It's not just Dogmeat or Fawkes. I felt like taking a few pot shots at Tinker Joe and his robots, but RL-3 was invincible after losing 1 bar of health. I didn't even hire him first. It might be all companions, whether you hire them or not. --Macros 11:40, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, here's my update, for what it's worth... I checked his health again, and it was 5500, which is 500 more than last time I had checked it. It is definitely increasing. I checked it again even later, and it was 6000. Then it clicked: I had been level 10 when it was 5000, level 11 when it was 5500, and had just hit level 12 when it was reading 6000. So, for whatever reason, he has 500 health PER LEVEL instead of 500 total. I'm quite sure this was NOT intended by the developers, because when I hit level 30, Dogmeat is going to have 15,000 health - more than the Mysterious Stranger! As to your assessment of other followers, I have not checked any others yet, but you've definitely piqued my curiosity. Are they going to have 500 per level, or some different value per level? (i.e. whatever health they're supposed to have, multiplied by your level?) Again, I'll return here and post any significant discoveries. I would recommend putting something about this in the main article, if it can be confirmed by a majority of players... but I fully expect Bethesda to "nerf" this back to normal at the first chance they get. Which is kinda sad, because who doesn't want a freakin' nuke-proof puppy for a pet?? Enjoy it while it lasts. 12.204.48.130 07:12, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Hey, you're right. I just checked the GECK. In plain Fallout 3, with no mods, patched to 1.5, the NPC followers are set to gain levels with the player, like normal. The creature followers are set to not gain levels with the player, like normal. With Broken Steel, the only change to the NPCs is to increase their maximum level to 30 (like the player.) The creatures, however, have been set to gain levels with the player, all the way up to level 30. This is clearly the work of an incompetent employee. He was told to "update the followers to level 30," yet was not told the creature ones are not supposed to grow more powerful. They are supposed to have the same stats, from level 1 to 30. Now, all their stats are multipled by your level. And it just so happens the creature followers are Dogmeat, Fawkes, and RL-3. --Macros 15:06, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow, somebody read my rambling post... and cared, lol! Thanks for the reply, and thanks also for checking the GECK. So, let's see.... RL-3 has 350 health, Fawkes has 500. That means that at level 30, RL-3 would have 10,500, and Fawkes would have 15,000, the same as Dogmeat. Since Fawkes doesn't run out of ammo for his own unique (and quite formidable) weapon, that would make him an ideal choice for a follower. Good grief.... 15,000 health and unlimited Laser Gatling ownage. You could just go into sneak mode and never have to fight again. Not that that would be much fun, but still. Wonder how long it will take them to fix this. And just to be clear, if you have the Puppies! perk, Dogmeat only has 1,000 health regardless of the player's level, correct? So we basically have the choice between a reincarnating dog vs. one that is (practically) immortal. Hmm.... there's a really bad joke about dyslexia and comparative religion lurking somewhere in all this...12.204.48.130 11:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Even with the Puppies! perk, Dogmeat will have the same ridiculous amount of health. The puppies themselves, I'm not so sure of. --Macros 12:19, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Yo dogmeat's puupies are actually slightly stronger then dogmeat haha. Confirmed sergeant RL3, fawkes, and dogmeat and his litter are all leveled to godlyness with the player. However the human companions are not. I tested it out by aquiring all permanent companions and proceeding to fire 3 rounds of experimental mirv and only RL3, fawkes, and dogmeat/puppies walked away from it.(mind you with most of their health haha)

A way to fix this annoying glitch (especially if you like killing Dogmeat :D) would be to open the console and type:

prid 0006a775 resethealth forceav health 500 getav health

and that should fix it. Veckin 05:57, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

It seems as though if you have a puppy, it automatically adds 500 health. So if you type forceav health 1000 Dogmeat's Puppy will have 1500 health. So don't even bother. Unless you want him to be a superdog. Also, I don't know if he continues to gain health when you level. I'll have to check that once I do level up.Veckin 19:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I finally got around to checking it (been busy playing a different game :P) The "puppy" is actually the same creature as Dogmeat (base id: 6a772), resurrected with a different name and a permanent +500hp ability. So everything that applies to Dogmeat, also applies to the "puppy", except the "puppy" will always have 500 more health. --Macros 04:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Ahhhh, that explains why he doesn't have 1,000 per level, then. Good work. Thanks again for taking the time to look it up, Macros! Since this glitch has been confirmed via the GECK as an error in the actual game files, I wonder if someone should make mention of it on the appropriate article pages (such as the pages for Dogmeat, Fawkes, RL-3, and even for the Broken Steel add-on itself, since that's where the glitch actually lies). Then again, Bethesda is probably going to fix this one... maybe... you would think... and then all those article pages would have to be changed again. What do you think? 12.204.48.130 07:23, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok so if you have the puppies perk, dogmeat wont level, with you. or is it if dogmeat dies and you have the puppies perk the puppy wont level with you. sorry a am realy confused.

He really is pretty invincible I literally shot him ten times with a fatman at 75% health and he finally died:Delta622

I made a video which displays how tough dogmeat is. I was level 27 at the time, and it took loads of explosives to kill him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKd0V2yZ4iY Bald Eagle Brennan 18:54, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

So can anyone tell me if Dogmeat actually does get "near invincible" after downloading Broken Steel on the 360? It seems like this is mostly about PC versions except for the starting question.

I have dealt with the same problem. Dogmeat can even survive about 4-5 direct fat man shots. it needs to be fixed.

Could he survive a shot from the mysterious stranger's magnum???

Yes this ABSOLUTELY happens the exact same way on the 360.

PLEASE FIX THIS BETHESDA!!!! WHY!?!?!?

Does anyone know if this glitch applies on the Game of the year edition? You'd probably have to start a new file with the game of the year version, without a pre-downloaded Broken steel, go and get Dogmeat and check by trying to kill him. Yeah, I'm willing to get the GOTY edition if it fixes glitches like this. Does anyone know if it fixes this? can anyone let me know?--Mwals413 22:39, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

I do not really believe the glitch should be removed. If you do not want any help from him just tell him to wait somewhere. And as for those who wish to kill him; the only reason I would kill him is for fun, and it would only be fun if he is nearly invincible (otherwise it would be cruel, even if he is reincarnated.) You do not have to save over you main file after having fun.--James Andrew Walker 23:52, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

Saw something about the puppies perk and well he gains either 500 or 1000 a level (1000 I think) he is twice as strong as dogmeat (So yea 100 a level) Jbsnicket 05:08, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Pre-discoveryEdit

I actually saw a wasteland trader walking with a dog through the wasteland near the minefield with a dog behind him. This dog looked remarkably like dogmeat, but whenever they encountered enemies, like a super mutant, the trader shot them with a Chinese AR. This dog was called "Wastelander's Dog", and eventually, I had to abandon them because I was crippled at the time. Ironically, I encountered this duo while I was LOOKING for dogmeat. Are there just other dogs in the wasteland? PSYCHOFYRE

Invincible Dogmeat!?(dogmeat's puppy in this case) Edit

No he is not invincable when you get the Broken Steel DLC. But he does seem to have an strong shield once depletated his health seems normal and he has been made much stronger with 1000 Hp + higher Damage resistance(which reloads after every fight). i attempted to kill him/her while in sneak mode so i got criticals on every shot. I used the Victory Rifle doing 50damage+critacal multiplier to the head 4 times in V.A.T.S. and he died. P.S. Fawkes turned hostile after i killed him is their a way to prevent this(do it in another area and be hidden)

It could be that the "puppy" version of Dogmeat is NOT glitched the same way the "real" Dogmeat is. They are different NPCs with different stats, and it's entirely possible that one is glitched and the other is not. As you can see in a post I made above, in my game the "regular" Dogmeat has 6,000 health at level 12, and has been gaining 500 health every time I level up. (Remind me NOT to take the Puppies perk, lol.) To answer your question about killing your dog without making Fawkes mad (what kind of commie shoots his own dog?? j/k), try telling Fawkes to wait for you, then fast travel to a different area and do your dirty deed. If that doesn't work and Fawkes is still hostile, you could try "firing" him, killing your dog (you commie), and then re-hiring Fawkes. That should work. (I assume you're trying to use an exploit to get more than one humanoid follower, and not just a guy who hates puppies!) Good luck with the whole shooting-your-best-friend thing! (All right, I'll quit giving you a hard time now, hehe.) P.S. I corrected the spelling of "invincible" in your topic header, but I left your actual post alone. Hope this is OK.12.204.48.130 07:21, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I've also noticed dogmeat's health and it took me several mini nukes. So when i killed dogmeat, not that I hate him/her, Jerico would always turn hostile so i lowered dogmeat's health to one bar. I went up onto the Sheriff's roof and pushed dogmeat off and that killed him. So now i could recruit Jerico. That's one way of follwers not turning hostile. It took me several tries though. Dogmeat and CharonEdit

Somewhere on here I read that if you kill Dogmeat for an extra Companion slot while in possession of Charon's contract, Charon will turn hostile. This presents some issues. I tried firing Charon and then killing Dogmeat. Fawkes and I had to blast away for quite sometime. Those who think Dogmeat is weak are mistaken. I fired away for probably 5 straight minutes at Dogmeat while Fawkes blasted him with the Laser Gatling the entire time. Dogmeat is one tough motherfucker. Anyways, Dogmeat dies and I went to UW to fetch Charon. He was hostile in his spot in the bar and Fawkes began wowling out on his ass. Needless to say I reloaded.

Later I realized that I can't put Charon's contract in my safe or anything.

How do I get around this and keep Charon? Obviously I need to have Dogmeat killed by someone else. What is your best suggestion? Pushing him off a cliff? He's a strong ass dog...

Finally, I mention this here because there is little mention of the specifics of this Charon hostility. I think it should be edited in to the Charon topic about the inability to discard his contract, and more specifics about his hostility even when waiting elsewhere (I haven't tried this yet), or fired.

V.A.T.S. addict 02:15, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

The following is a quote from the main topic:

  • "If the player has Dogmeat then he can still have another follower. Dogmeat appears to have a reserved spot as a companion, so if he dies, the player can recruit two of the other followers at once. If Dogmeat is killed by the player while he has Charon's contract, Charon becomes hostile and attack. This does not happen if the player sends Charon back to Underworld."

I sent Charon back to the Underworld, then proceeded to assassinate Dogmeat via standard methods with Fawkes contributing. After killing Dogmeat, I immediately went to retrieve Charon from the Underworld, where he was hostile. So, despite firing him, he was still hostile after killing Dogmeat. (360)

However, after reverse pickpocketing a grenade onto him and blowing him up (to get SPC), I went to UW later and Charon was not hostile.

V.A.T.S. addict 20:29, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Actually the above poster's advice works. I tested it on a 360. Here's the catch: you have to be in the room or cell the desired follower is in when you insert the grenade in Dogmeat's rectum. Hire him quickly and wait for Dogmeat's puppy to spawn. I got a question though how long does it take usually. Just curious.

Kirby888 02:09, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Supposedly he'll regenerate at the location of his demise and hang there for a while before being available. Last few times I did it I could not find him at the location where I killed him. Also after waiting in the same room as he was killed it seems that he will not respawn and his corpse will just stay (needs more verification as I only waited like 12 hours or so). So pretty much my best strategy has just been to FORGET about him for a few game days and then mosey on over to Vault 101 every so often. He's usually there before too long. There do seem to be issues with him being "semi-stuck" at Vault 101 however (but I seem to have gotten around those by hiring/firing/rehiring).

V.A.T.S. addict 03:35, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

    • I can confirm that. I've had Dogmeat die once and eventually he reappeared at Vault 101. I didn't realize that he actually spawned where he died until today. I was traveling through the utility tunnel where a Feral Ghoul Reaver had killed the puppy previously the night before in real life. In game time it had only been about a day before I found him where he had died, but I could have been completely out of it and not have noticed how long I was actually playing, but I'm pretty sure it was one game or two game days max. If you don't recover him within a certain amount of time he will return to Vault 101, but I'm not sure of the exact time span.--Bubba787 02:21, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

The Dogmeat Hiring Dialog Edit

It seems like this page is missing information about the speech choices you can make when first acquiring Dogmeat. Does what you choose to say affect Dogmeat's actions, stats or personality after that?

I don't believe it does. From what I've heard, Dogmeat's stats are set to be fixed throughout the game, unless the Broken Steel addon is active, where he will level with you. Other than that, all the games I've played, Dogmeat has behaved the same regardless of what I've said to him. Sacrificial Khaos 20:54, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Yet Another Broken Steel Bug?Edit

All right, so if you've followed the conversation above between myself and Macros, you're aware that in the Broken Steel add-on, Dogmeat is getting 500 health per level instead of 500 health total. Well... there might be more to it than that. My character is now level 18, and in addition to having a robust 9,000 health, Dogmeat is now killing some raiders and feral ghouls with a single bite. It used to be that he was a great distraction in combat, but he seldom got any kills, apart from chasing down the occasional runner which I had already wounded. Now, it's a pretty common occurrence in my game for Dogmeat to run up to a door, open it, and charge through into a group of ghouls... and kill one or two of them before I can even get there and get a weapon out! I have seem him "one-shot" a number of enemies this way. Now... his melee damage is only supposed to be 5 points according to the article. I assume this number is taken from the GECK directly. His health is set to 500 in the GECK as well, but it's also (due to a bug) being multiplied by the player's level. So here's my question... is his damage being multiplied as well? If so, then he's doing (18x5=) 90 points of damage... scary. Can anyone else confirm this, or have I just witnessed him getting a couple of lucky shots in? 12.204.48.130 07:24, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Huh. I thought I mentioned this before, but obviously I did not. When you multiply a creature's level with the player, their health AND attack damage are multiplied. For reference, an Albino Radscorpion's attack damage is set to 100 (doesn't multiply).
Basically, "attack damage" is how much damage a creature is supposed to do with its attacks, because they don't wield weapons.
Super Mutants are a special case. They are creatures, and thus have attack damage, but they also wield weapons. Which is why the Behemoth's attack damage is only 33 - it's added to their fire hydrant, which by itself does 100 damage.
What I'm saying is this: Fawkes' attack damage is 4. This is multiplied by your character's level, for a maximum of 120 at level 30. Then you add his weapon damage, whatever it may be. I'll let you finish that thought. --Macros 04:52, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Wait, wait, wait.... you mean that Fawkes will add (4xLevel) damage even to RANGED attacks? I was thinking of Dogmeat's 5 points of damage as "unarmed only" because he doesn't use a weapon.... so that 5 points is all he gets. But if Fawkes adds that damage to, say, his infinite-ammo Gatling Laser.... (there, I finished the thought.) Oh, my. Incidentally, I did do a little testing today, doing a "getav health" on a Super Mutant Brute before and after Dogmeat bit him, and a single bite attack did about 25 points of damage. This was at level 17, which should have been (5x17=) 85 points of damage. (In my post above, I must have thought I had hit level 18 already... but it seems that was just wishful thinking on my part, lol.) It seems the mutant had about 60% damage resistance, I guess? I've never bothered to check DR of enemies before. Or perhaps the damage itself is randomized, with 85 being the maximum? I dunno. Anyway, at level 30 with Dogmeat and Fawkes as my companions, it looks like I'm going to have to leave them both at home if I want the pleasure of actually killing anything myself...! 12.204.48.130 07:16, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I was wrong. After a little testing (and a trip to the GECK wiki), it seems "attack damage" only applies to unarmed attacks. So my plan to make Fawkes a walking nuke (to borrow a line from Frank Horrigan) has been shot down :\ Well, at least it should apply to Dogmeat. I say 'should' because your example above is also confusing me. I used getav damageresist on a super mutant brute and it said it had 0 DR. Maybe certain enemies (mutants, mirelurks, etc.) have some hidden defense stat I can't find. --Macros 16:20, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmmm, you know what? I bet he bit the mutant in the leg. The getav health command just shows the overall health points of the target, not limb damage. I'm pretty sure the total amount of damage taken is modified when limbs are hit (either increased or reduced, depending on which part is hit). I could look in VATS to see where Dogmeat's attack landed, I guess. Ugh. I need to do more testing. (Dogmeat! Sic raiders! GOOD BOY!) Maybe I should just hold off till level 30 before I try to figure it out, because that will make it easier to tell for sure if it's being affected by level. I should certainly be able to tell the difference between 5 points and 150 points. My, Dogmeat, what big teeth you have! P.S. That's a darn shame about Fawkes not getting the damage bonus to his Gatling Laser. I guess I'll just have to take it away from him and make him pound on the bad guys with his hammer, huh?  :) 32 damage becomes 152. Um.... FORE!! (thwack) (Raider goes sailing into the distance)12.204.48.130 07:44, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
You know what, I noticed this as well, but it doesn't matter because I do 517 melee damage anyways...this shoots into the high 700's with Jingwei's shocksword... :D Veckin 02:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Operation Anchorage Edit

When I was getting into the Pod I got the message "Dogmeat has Died" so I went back to my last save point which was right after i had gotten Gary 23 into the right position for the equipment glitch and tried it again. I got the same message, that Dogmeat died, so I shrugged it off figuring it was a bug and that afterward he would end up at the scrapyard or vault 101. After it was all over, I looked for him and couldn't find him...did this happen to anyone else? Did he actually get killed or was it something with Operation Anchorage?Bigwavedave619 14:58, 18 June 2009 (UTC) I didn't have this happen to me, and I have never heard of this happening before. I would recommend reloading that first save, and then telling Dogmeat to go home, and then try it and see what happens. Veckin 17:01, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Miracle?! Dogmeat Fetches Clipped Weapons and Ammo! Edit

I'm playing Fallout3 on the XBOX and discovered to my horror that the Firelance clipped itself into Alexandria Arms building. This was evident by the alien power cells scattered all over and when I told Dogmeat to search for a weapon, he started running up against a wall. Here's what I found out: If you tell Dogmeat to search for the clipped weapon/ammo, he will start running up against the wall, right? Now if you enter a building and come back out, Dogmeat will miraculously fetch the clipped weapon/ammo. I don't know if this is known already, but this is great since the firelance and ammo has a tendency to clip itself into walls and buildings. However this was my situation, and I was able to enter the nearby Alexandria Arms, so I don't know if this finding could work for others. This happened to me once and I haven't tried it again. I'm very thankful it worked though.

Killing Dogmeat Easily without Console Commands Edit

I play the 360 version of Fallout 3, and after getting Broken Steel, I picked up Dogmeat at level 30 and found him quite indestructible. To those wondering, the easiest way to kill him off for whatever reason is to fire him, go to Vault 101, sneak behind him, and put a frag mine in his "pocket". This will instantly kill him.--Glod14k 09:09, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

aiii, need help Edit

'''i did the quest where i had to head baCK TO VAULT 101 TO help with the problems over there, but when left the vault, and the door closed again, dogmeat was still inside, and is now trapped in vault 101 with a closed vault door. is there any way i can retrieve him? i play xbox version'''

Load an old save, otherwise, no. Lord Spoonfield III 13:08, 5 July 2009 (UTC) ....thats not true at all. in that case the next door with a loading screen you go through he should appear with you, or atleast somewhere near you. if thatr doesn't work, just wait a few days or weeks in the game and he'll either appear by you or by vault 101

Gone Edit

Dogmeats puppy (the first) died and after a in game week, i still didn't have a message that dogmeats puppy was at 101. i traveled there and found him standing there, asked him to join, but he wouldn't move. Asked him to go find ammo, still nothing. started to push him off the ledge and he suddenly ran off. thinking he was getting ammo, i waited for five days. never came back. Haven't seen him since. that was several in game weeks ago, went back to 101 several times and waited for a few days. just gone.

I thought i saw someone post a similar problem to this on this discussion page, but i couldnt find it.

No Dogmeat D: Edit

Alright so when I first started the game, when I came to the scrapyard, I didn't go in. I had to pass by it for a quest, but didn't enter because I didn't want Dogmeat yet. A little later, while fighting super mutants, Dogmeat comes to the rescue. He jumps on a grenade that I throw and for a split second is hostile. But then returns to normal. I couldn't activate dialogue or anything. He's not at the scrapyard, but will appear at vault 101. He seems to just wonder off though.. My game occasionally crashes when i find him there. My question is, is it possible (via mod, console, etc) to make him my companion. I tried setownership but all that did was make him nonessential. (he was essential before that for some unknown reason).

Much love,

75.84.112.75 12:01, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Daedal
Dogmeat is marked as essential before he joins you, just like all the other companion NPCs. If he is not essential in your game (i.e. can be killed), then he must have become your companion at some point. "setownership" shouldn't have any effect on NPCs, although it is useful for doors, footlockers, etc. You can try selecting him (clicking on him with the console open) and entering "setplayerteammate" and see if that helps. Otherwise, enter these commands in the console in this order:
prid 6a775
disable
enable
kill
resurrect
rdf
moveto player
... and then talk to him and you should have the option of asking him to join you. The "rdf" command tells the game to "reset dialog flags" for the selected NPC, so it should be like you've never talked to him before. Good luck! 12.204.48.130 08:06, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Where's Dogmeat? Edit

After I fired Dogmeat at the entrance of Fallout Wiki 87 without using backgate, I can't find Dogmeat in Fallout Wiki Entrance. There's no message about Dogmeat's death and he can't be found anywhere like scrapyard. BBuzz 02:03, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

If you send Dogmeat back to Vault 101 can he die along the way?

Dog Meat Levels Up? (Xbox 360) Edit

Okay, so I was playing one save that had dogmeat's puppy. He didn't turn out so strong. I switched to a different character and picked up Dogmeat after I turned level 30. I also got the add on "Mothership Zeta" before picking him up. Now Dogmeat can solo anything. He only loses one bar of health and just seems to stay at that level until the battle ends. We even got hit by a mininuke from an overlord and he didn't lose more then one bar from his total health.

I'm wondering, if Dogmeat turned ungodly strong in this save after mothership zeta, any chance the puppy in my other character save would end up strong as well? Or does this only apply to the original?

--69.118.21.95 04:47, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

a lot of people are having this same problem, but so far no one seems to think it's because of Mothership Zeta, but rather Broken Steel. If you find him before you install Broken Steel, he'll be normal, but if you find him after Broken steel is installed he will have extremely high health, even after you uninstall broken steel.

Using Dogmeat to carry your gear (PC version)Edit

I found a neat little console code. With the console open, select Dogmeat by clicking on him or typing prid 6a775, and then enter this command: openteammatecontainer ... and it will open an inventory screen just as if you had talked to any other companion and asked him / her to trade items with you. No longer do we have to order Dogmeat back to Vault 101 and then sneak up behind him and shove things into his.. er, pocket... 12.204.48.130 08:12, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

- I want to use dogmeat to help me carry items in his inventory but how do I activate his inventroy

what button in the keyboard do I press to do that, and I cant pick pocket him when I press Ctrl button

and when I am hidden I cant do anything to pick pocket him.

DOGMEAT PACK MULE GLITCH, no console commmands (PC VERSION no others tested)

Once you aquire a gauss rifle, shoot dogmeat in the head, it will be critical shot but dogmeat will only fall down stunned. Standing next to dogmeat, press your activate button repeatedly as dogmeat begins to stand. this will allow you quick access to dogmeats "inventory". no more console commands or sneaking up on him. This makes him a gear mule. I dont believe he has a strength rating, so he could hall all your equipment, like a moving locker. Found by testing his durability... haha

Puppies After Death? Edit

Does Dogmeat's Puppy still show up if Dogmeat died before I took the Puppies! perk?

Finished Operation Anchorage, and now Dogmeat's missing Edit

I just got through with Operation: Anchorage, and instead of finding Dogmeat the the top of the elevator shaft where I last saw him, he is gone. Any idea where he may be? --24.234.120.66 05:39, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Resurrecting Dogmeat Edit

If you've tried resurrecting Dogmeat through the console, and he just seems to wander aimless, try this: prid 6a775 / disable / enable / kill / resurrect / rdf / resetquest 943ed

The last line resets the "Hire Dogmeat" quest. You'll just have to walk through the initial dialog with him, and he's all yours again.

Weak Dogmeat at level 30 Edit

I have Broken Steel along with the 1.7 patch (PC version). I got to level 30 yesterday, I have Fawkes and Dogmeat as followers. So, a little after I got to level 30, a sentry bot appears and Dogmeat runs to it to attack it. I stay calm, thinking that he simply can't die, since at level 30 he has plenty of health. Wrong. The sentry bot mowed him down only in a few seconds, right before Fawkes killed it, forcing me to reload the last save, which was quite far away. Today I open the console to check both Fawkes' and Dogmeat's HP. Fawkes has 15000, but Dogmeat still has the default 500. I was hoping for a super dog at level 30, but something seems to be wrong... can I get him to 15000 health (without setav health, I really want him to level normally)? P.S. I found Dogmeat before I installed Broken Steel and Fawkes after.--TastyCheese 10:59, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I've found that Dogmeat will only have that 15000 health if you find him after you've installed Broken Steel, otherwise he never will. But there are console commands that make him essential, you could look into that.

Point of "Good Boy" "Bad Boy"? Edit

Does anyone know if there's a point to saying "Good Boy" or "Bad Boy" to Dogmeat? Every time I fix him up with a stimpack I also give him a "Good Boy" just in case his stats get better by doing so, but I have no idea. I've never had him die on me yet, so maybe it does have an effect (or maybe I'm just overly protective with stimpacks).

Even though I'm playing the game on "Hard", with Dogmeat and Charon by my side I'm finding the game a bit too easy. I certainly have no need for a more powerful companion... not yet anyway (Level 14).

It seems to be able to modify his behavior. For a long while I gave him a "Good Boy" whenever I felt like it while nothing was happening. After a while I noticed he frequently lagged behind and often didn't follow me through zoning doors. I started giving him a "Bad Boy" whenever he lagged far behind or I had to return through doors to retrieve him. His behavior improved considerably and he now is much better at keeping up and don't stay in the previous zone. Using "Good Boy" just after a successful attack also seems to have encouraged him to charge in like there is no tomorrow, which makes it likely he gets killed before I manage to catch up with him. I will have to discourage this behavior. On my to do list is seeing if I can train him to only attack after I have fired my first shot and seeing if it can be used to train him not to snarl when he detects enemies. I only discovered this yesterday and actually came here to see if my theory was previously supported. (GerardHolven 04:41, October 30, 2009 (UTC))
okay...dude, are u smokin something? as far as i can tell there is nothing in dog-meats coding that makes him follow or w/e depending no what u say to him, hes a DOG he cant speak HUMAN its like when u say to a dog, good boy, its the way u say it, if you called a dog a mangy piece of crap, but said it all sweetly and kindly, hed wag his tail and dance around, same if you called him the best dog on earth and said it scornfully, so yeh, there is no evidence so far to prove your point, i personally would need posted video's of before/after on how he acted before i believed this pointToolazytomakeaaccount 05:55, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
Nope, never smoked in my life. And I'm not savvy in the movie making business. I only tell you how it seems to work to me. I am not saying I can't be mistaken and it could all be coincidence. And You are of course utterly right in how things work with real dogs. This is however a digital dog in a game and as such we can safely assume that Good/Bad Dog is delivered in the necessary tone of voice. Instead of bothering to challenge me on it, you could try it for yourself and see if you experience the same thing. I did state I came here to see if anyone have experienced the same thing, obviously because I don't know whether it is just coincidences or what. As far as the coding goes, I have no idea. I'm not a coder. The code could still be in another location than the rest of it, couldn't it? (GerardHolven 17:04, October 30, 2009 (UTC)) Oh and this is the PC version btw, in case it matters. (GerardHolven 17:22, October 30, 2009 (UTC))
well okay i guess i kinda called bs but well you gotta understand, people do come on here saying they just wanna be kind and junk, then end up spreading endless rumors, ever heard of the dogmeat shooting lasers thing? it didn't start here but some dumbass decided to bring it to this area, it was naturally dismissed very rapidly, and since you have pc version why not check the G.E.C.K. and see what his coding says? usually its not all 01000111110101010001110110111 sometimes there's basic words like, kill enemy or something, and yes its possible..but I've never seen it happen for me, it'd be interesting if they really put something like that on there, something completely editable by you and you alone, just going in and choosing how someone acts...but well...you have to admit its a little bit far fetched(no pun intended) its possible but well, yeh id say its probably possible....anyway sorry i acted like that but really, you get what i mean about jackass's bringing bs in here then expecting people to swallow it all.Toolazytomakeaaccount 16:07, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

Here Boy! Edit

Well, it looks like Dogmeat has disappeared. I told him to wait while in an unknown Vault, it was not 101, 87, 92, 106, 112, or 108. He is not in any of them.

I do know the place at least looked like a Vault. Are there any places in the Wasteland that look like a Vault, besides in the Museum of Technology?

Fort Bannister perhaps? Spoon 13:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

I read somewhere that he eventually turns up back at Vault 101 if left to wait for a long time in one location.

The Museum of Technology has a Vault-Tec tour of what Vaults look like, you might have left him there. TastyCheese 13:44, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat's origins Edit

The main page says the original Dogmeat can be considered an homage to the dog in "The Road Warrior" (Mad Max 2), which was released in 1981. It is my opinion that Dogmeat is actually an homage to the telepathic dog named "Blood" from "A Boy and His Dog" (1975), which is directly based on the yet earlier (1969) science-fiction short by Harlan Ellison. As others have noted about the film, Vic calls his dog "Dogmeat" early on, even though his name is Blood.

The Fallout Universe seems to be based much more on "A Boy and His Dog" than "Mad Max 2". The only connection to the Mad Max franchise seems to be the breed of dog.

Actually, in Mad Max, Max often calls the dog "Dogmeat", and in order to get Dogmeat in Fallout 1, one way to do so is to get a leather jacket, which if you look at it, it's almost completely identicle to the one that Mel Gibson wears in "The Road Warrior". -- Anonymous Coward
You're drawing comparison based on a leather jacket? I own one that looks just like that. Perhaps Dogmeat is actually an homage to my dog. And seriously, make it obvious that you're commenting inside another person's talk. -1 poor spelling & grammar. Truthsolo 01:58, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

Unrelated to Dogmeat's origins, Blood mentions that he "gets such a kick out of calling him [Vic, main character] Albert". Notice the similarity in Harold's dialog when he mentions he gets a kick out of calling Bob "Herbert"? Just funny to me..

Actually you may have a point there because I noticed this as well, in regards to the similarity of Blood and Vic and Harold and Bob. So it can be said that Dogmeat is an amalgamation of aspects of Blood from "A Boy and His Dog" and the dog from "The Road Warrior".

Dogmeat: behemoths and fat man blasts Edit

the article mentions that Dogmeat can survive a fat man blast at level 20 because he levels up with the player. Actually with Broken steel installed before Dogmeat is obtained, Dogmeat can survive multiple Fat Man shots even at level 1. See for yourself. (It will only work if Dogmeat is obtained AFTER Broken steel is installed). The article also says that with Broken Steel, Dogmeat can take on a behemoth. It's extraordinary how long Dogmeat can survive against a behemoth with Broken Steel, but regardless he doesn't stand a chance because the Behemoth will keep knocking him down, not letting him up, and therefore, kill him after about 5-6 hits.

Oh bloody hell! Edit

I have created a wonderful mod.. i made a T51B for dogmeat!.. it is a seperaste npc. It looks like a dog with specialized armor.. it's DR is around the thousands.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Point Lookout dogmeat just turned up Edit

ive been playing a new game, doing the addons before any quests, i finished anchorage and am now on point lookout, ive just found dogmeat on lighting the lighthouse. i haven`t been to the scrapyard at all. this is on the 360. is this normal, i`m sure when i last did point lookout, he stayed behind.

unconfirmed bugs moved from articleEdit

  • Dogmeat can occasionally be found at Jury Street Metro Station, but this has only so far been confirmed on the PS3 version of the game. (2 case)
  • Dogmeat may appear after waiting long enough in the Regulator HQ. (unconfirmed)
  • In a rare case, Dogmeat sometimes is not at the scrapyard, but a the Washington Monument fighting Super Mutants, dying most of the time. If you managed to save him and ask him to follow you, he seems to jump back to the scrapyard, Vault 101, or somewhere in the middle of the wasteland. Use the wait command for him to arrive. (unconfirmed)
  • There is a bug in which Dogmeat will just disappear if left at home too long or if the theme is changed with Dogmeat inside of you house no solution has been found so far except for reloading the game. (unconfirmed)
  • He also has a tendency to just disappear. This can happen while trying to enter (or leave) places. Dogmeat can also disappear if he accidentally gets stuck in a pile of debris. If you wait outside for a long time, Dogmeat may appear right in front of you when you stop waiting. You can also try fast traveling.
  • In rare cases on the PS3/Xbox 360, it is possible that when you encounter Dogmeat at the scrapyard he will not move or follow any of your commands after all of the Raiders have been killed. Telling Dogmeat to stay, then fast traveling to a location and back to the scrapyard will fix this glitch . (Unconfirmed)

please do not readdd these to the article unless this has been verified by more than one person. Also when added confirmation, please add which platform it occured on. (PC, Xbox 360 or PS3)--Kingclyde 04:11, September 7, 2009 (UTC)

Merge articles about Fallout 1 and 3 articles Edit

Well the page for the First Dogmeat is quite short, I think both articles should be merged just the same way that we have all the sniper rifles under the same page instead of three single pages.

It's not the same dog, numnutz. 11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 07:05, September 25, 2009 (UTC)

I totally agree. I don't get why they don't merge the articles. Tagaziel is an asshole.

I also totally agree but with Tagaziel its not the same dog, We don't merge all the Vaults into one article because they are all vaults, and sniper rifles are small guns but aren't in the same article as assault rifles.

I dont't mind when people want to disagree with me or anyone else, it just bothers me when they're a dick about it.

unconfirmed bugsEdit

  • While in Rivet City it is possible for Dogmeat to go after the turret inside the armory, unlocking the door (100 lockpick or armory key normally required to open). The door remains open even if Dogmeat doesn't attack the turret (i.e. you leave through a side door to the outside before he gets a chance to attack it). Then, if you re-enter the area without sneaking the turret will target you and cause all Rivet City security to go hostile. However, if you have Dogmeat wait outside, then sneak along the wall once you re-enter the ship, you can close the door and prevent the turret from attacking, while still having the option to sneak through the door at your leisure since it now remains unlocked permanently. (preferably with a stealth boy equipped).

please verify this and other bugs with more than two editors. Thanks.--Kingclyde 08:13, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

This applies to all followers (or NPCs who engage enemies). They will open any door to get to enemies they spot, even if that door is locked. -- Porter21 (talk) 08:31, September 26, 2009 (UTC)
  • A RARE moment is when Dogmeat glitches to you in Point Lookout, this happened to the editor today, as when his character took a nap in Kenny's Cave, Dogmeat appeared right beside him.

other breeds of dogmeat Edit

Why arent there any other breeds of dogmeat

glitch in vault 112Edit

i have a problem, when i went into the l;ounger in vault 112 dogmeat disapeered i cannot find him anywhere at all i think this should be mentioned in the article as a bug

everyone thinks there glitch is a real glitch....why doesn't anyone ever understand that there are occasions where there's a once in a life time glitch in the game, that never happens again no matter what the hell you do, and is impossible to fix, also FYI, try looking at vault 101, he usually goes back there and there's a glitch sometimes where there's no message saying hes gone there, or he died and same thing, no message.Toolazytomakeaaccount 05:50, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

possible glitchEdit

discuss this to verify before it goes into the article

  • Dogmeat can multiply your ammo supply, (this is not endless, say you have X amount of ammo, then he can get you X! amounts of ammo, THIS WILL NOT WORK with single weapons, like the guass rifle, missile luncher, etc.) to do this (recommended to use guns with large ammo supplies), you need to give Dogmeat ammo, which is possible (sneak up behind him, and talk to him. A menu should pop up as if you were pickpocketing Dogmeat.), deposit all ammo wanted to multiply, and close the pickpocketing screen. Next wield desired weapon, and sneak up on Dogmeat and pickpocket him again. Open the menu and it should show him having the amount of ammo you gave him. After take the ammo back, then (without close the pickpocketing menu) deposit all but one ammo back onto Dogmeat. After you close the window, your weapon should read X/-(X-1). In theory, this should work with all followers. (Tested on Ps3, with Broken Steel and Operation: Anchorage installed, Tested using Chinese Stealth Armor, and with a minigun, laser rifle, Lincoln's repeater, slo-burn flamer, and alien blaster)

Dogmeat speaks! Edit

Sorry if the answer to this question is posted somewhere here. I sorta skimmed through.

Dogmeat occasionally barks, and I don't think it's random. I think he barks to get our attention to something. When I was in Vault 92, he didn't bark when I missed the Strad, but he did bark near some ammo boxes. Could he be telling us something?

Duplicate Dogmeats? Edit

I noticed that Dogmeat disappeared on me, so I used the console command "player.placeatme 6a772", and got him back. However, when I told him to follow me and fast traveled to Tenpenny Tower, there was another Dogmeat right beside him. I don't really wanna kill him, but I'm wondering how to remedy the situation. Making one of the Dogmeats wait at Vault 101 seems to cause the other to do the same, so the reason I don't wanna kill one of them is because I don't want the other turning hostile towards me and not having him at all. Any solutions?

and this is a bad thing....how? lol sorry i dont got pc so i cant answer this but really, why are people so nitpicky?(not referencing nitpicker of the waste) its like ghoul ecology, someone made a mod to fix this....WHY? its like the operation anchorage infinite ammo glitch, people made mods to fix this, again, why? also with Haley's Hardware he can repair up to 100%! yet people insist on explaining how to fix said glitch...what is up with you people? take what you fucking get and thank the gods for these peoples stupidity, because without stupidity, there would be no glitch's to exploit in games..and i cant live in a world without glitch's to exploit!!!Toolazytomakeaaccount 17:42, November 7, 2009 (UTC)
I'm asking for help, not your opinion. If I wanted an army of Dogmeats, then I wouldn't be posting this. Also, why even type all that out if you don't have a PC and "can't answer this"?75.70.238.198 02:42, November 10, 2009 (UTC)

Well, looks like everything sorted itself out. I loaded a save before I duplicated him, and after a couple days of playing (real time) his puppy showed up at vault 101.75.70.238.198 13:33, November 11, 2009 (UTC)

thought id just mention, turns out this is a common glitch on how to duplicate any ally's you have, simply doing place.to.me thing and it copy's whoever u placed to you occasionally.Toolazytomakeaaccount 14:39, November 11, 2009 (UTC)

How Do You Get It To Work? Edit

I did the Cross follower exploit and now I'm kind of worrying that I won't have my excellent team of Charon, Cross and Dogmeat after I do American Dream or any of the DLCs as they break the exploit. I also tried the recommendation of getting mutiple followers of telling them to wait then firing Dogmeat before slipping him a frag. I think where I went wrong was that I didn't fire either Cross nor Charon before slipping Dogmeat the frag. Is that where I made the mistake or was it somewhere else? Is it that or did Bethesda fix this with the release of GOTY?--KnightNapier 01:13, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

here's how the glitch works, you can make your follower's wait etc or anything u want, it doesn't matter if there fired, walk up to person u want to hire, fire dogmeat then blow him up with a frag grenade, talk to person after a message said dogmeat or dogmeat's puppy has died, after message talk to them, they will be hirable, after that get your followers to follow you if u haven't had them already follow you and u leave, you can do this as many times as you want.Toolazytomakeaaccount 02:12, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat replaced? :O Edit

I am not sure how this occurred. I have all the DLC content and am playing on the GOTY for the PC version. I have always kept Dogmeat healthy and in great shape. Whenever I go into buildings or their ilk i leave him at the door. I have never had a problem. I was scaving in Takoma Park and decided to leave him outside the factory. I scaved the factory and all was well. When I was done I collected him again and started heading west, I came across the Behemoth so I reloaded, left him again and killed the behemoth. I went into the carshop and hot a message that "Dogmeat's Puppy Has Died!" This confused me seeing as Dogmeat had not died yet so how could his puppy have died... I reloaded my last save just to be safe, and got no new message, but traveled to Vault 101 just to see. I saw a prisoner that I had released from Paradise Fall's loitering outside V101, but no one else. I reloaded to before. I scaved the car shop and exited. When I walked up to Dogmeat to collect him again, he was replaced by 'Dogmeat's Puppy'. I tried reloading just to see, and his puppy kept replacing Dogmeat in the same spot that I left Dogmeat. there were no enemies around so Dogmeat could not have died, (not to mention I am level 30 and he is nearly invincible as it is, so death is unlikely.) As I said I am rather confused. Does anyone know how I could reset my poor lost/replaced Dogmeat? I have kept him alive so long and I'd hate to have him replaced via a glitch. Any help would be appreciated. Willhel55 10:57, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Is there ANY way to level Dogmeat after installing Broken Steel? Edit

So, I got Dogmeat before I installed Broken Steel, without realizing that by doing that, I was prevented from having Dogmeat level with me. Now I'm around Lvl. 22, with the original Dogmeat (no Puppies! perk). My question is, if I take the Puppies! perk and then kill Dogmeat, will Dogmeat's Puppy be a different companion that will level up and become really strong, or am I basically screwed at this point if I want strong Dogmeat/Puppy companion? 208.76.203.105 02:17, December 21, 2009 (UTC)

Dogmeat bug Edit

I play fallout on the xbox i had dogmeat wait outside my house in megaton with clover so i could do the mission in vault 87 once i got out of raven rock i found Dogmeat outside of vault 101 and is now not responsive when i press A to talk he dosent do anything how do i fix this

Using Dogmeat to carry equipment (PS3)Edit

You guys, I think I just found two ways to make Dogmeat carry your stuff.

1.Alright, knocking him down with a critical shot from the Gauss or Victory rifle or whatever then interacting with him will open an inventory.

2.Sending him back to Vault 101, then before he leaves too far sneaking and activating (pickpocketing) him will open an inventory. The same inventory as above. For some reason, though, it gives you bad karma.

I've never used a Talk page before, so you guys probably already know this, but I wanted to make sure, and maybe we should put in on the page. --Macgeek112 21:53, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

An ARMY OF DOGMEATS :D! Edit

I wish there was a console gltich so you could have like 6 invincible Dogmeat Puppys :3

Bugs needing confirmation Edit

  • When you download the Broken Steel DLC, there is a chance that(if you have the Puppies! perk) you will not be able to recruit anyone, ever.
  • After being sent out for items, Dogmeat may not return and later appear in Point Lookout or any other area companions are not allowed.
  • When in dialogue with Dogmeat (Assumed that this is only after getting one of the expansion packs), the speech tree completely changes, and is very annoying and disturbing. Instead of saying, "Let's go, Dogmeat", the player says "I have to go now" and Dogmeat responds not with a hearty "Woof" or "Bark", but with "Come back if you need something", but remains silent as the caption is on the screen. Most likely nobody's going anywhere if you are telling Dogmeat to come along with you.
    • Confirmed on PS3 - I downloaded Broken Steel DLC and recruited Dogmeat with a new game I started. After triggering the Firelance random encounter I told Dogmeat to pick up ammo for me, and experienced similar problems with the speech tree. In my case I was stuck with "Goodbye, Dogmeat", and after saying that Dogmeat would stop following me. I couldn't tell it to follow me until I told it to go back to Vault 101, then talk to it when it was walking away, and only then the option for getting it to follow me appeared.Ismenis 08:24, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

dogmeats puppy has a perfetic amount of health on my game anything past a refal gole or single molerat wil kill him even other dogs in packs of 2 or more will singlehandedly kill him and yes im level 30 and i have finished all quests in broken steel

oh and to the above post about dogmeat being abel to carry stuff yes he can i have been doing it for over a year switich to very hard mode get your fists out move infront of him and save in one way or another then target him in vats and hopefulkly you will do a paralizing palm or if you dont have it sneak behind him and use the vidctory rifle or guase rifle be warned though if you use the victory rifle to know him out if you give him any grenades he will explode but he wount if you paralize palm him

it works well after i finished who dares wins i have over 10,000 pounds of gear in his inventory and gave some to casidin repaired some of the enclave hellfire armour for npc use and sold all the stuff i dident neek to flax and shrapnel and then waited 4 days and sold stuff to him again and again untill it was all goone i allso brought any laser weapons and power armour he had to give to casidin after all of it was done i was siting on a extra 20,000 caps and about 50 extra mini nukes and extra amo for emost things from doing this i have over 25k microfusion cells because he sells them in bulk of 100 each time you buy of of him and i have 60k small energy cells

this basicaly means i can carry as much as i want and afterward sell of everything i dont want and get lots of spare ammo and some armour and aid items and misk items that i otherwise wouldent have had i mean without this i would only be abel to take back 290 pounds of equipent from who dares wins but instead i took back other 10k pounds

Dogmeat was at the Crash Site when I returned after MZ Edit

This line is in the Notes Section of the article -

Dogmeat will return to Vault 101 when the player is captured and taken to Raven Rock, when entering the pod at Vault 112 for the Tranquility Lane simulation, entering the Operation: Anchorage simulation pod, leaving for The Pitt, going to Point Lookout on the Duchess Gambit, when abducted by aliens in Mothership Zeta or turning on the purifier in Take It Back!. Sometimes it takes several days for Dogmeat to return to Vault 101.

I just completed Mothership Zeta a couple of days ago, and when I teleported back to the Wasteland Dogmeat (and Fawkes) were waiting for me at the crash site. I was expecting to have to go to Vault 101 and the History Museum to pick them up, but no. It was actually very nice, because it was dark when I returned and I was able to use Dogmeat to locate the Alien Blaster and the Power Cells at the site.

They were also waiting for me in the Citadel infirmary when I woke up after completing Take It Back! earlier. I had to tell them to come on to get them to start following me again (I did that automatically at the crash site, so I'm not sure if you have to do that there).

I did have to go pick Dogmeat up at Vault 101 after finishing Tranquility Lane and Operation Anchorage. In the case of OA, I had actually left him at my Megaton house before going to the Outcast Outpost, but when I returned he had been moved to Vault 101!

I'm playing on XBox 360, Normal difficulty, and was Level 30 when I finished both quests. Gator Country 18:26, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Finished up my second playthrough of MZ a couple of days ago on Hard difficulty. I had Dogmeat and Sgt. RL-3 as followers this time. This time Dogmeat got sent to Vault 101 right after I was beamed up. RL-3 got sent to Canterbury Commons later, after I had gone most of the way through MZ; it was shortly after my karma dropped to evil (I got a little trigger happy with the Alien Workers).

At any rate, I had to go pick them both up again (in RL-3's case, after a couple of donations to the water beggar outside of Megaton, and a few caps to the Church of the Atom).

Questions. Edit

I have a question about the box in which it says Copmanion, Essential, Doctor ETC. In that box, how do you make it have a tick or check mark. I also made an article on a follower, Charon, but I don't know how to tick the box that says Companion.

Thanks

OzzyFallout 07:10, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

You want something like:
((Interactions FO3
|essential =Until recruited by the player
...
|temp companion =no
|perm companion =yes
...
))
replace the (( by two "{" and the )) by two "}"

merge Edit

Why are Dogmeat and Dogfmeant (Fallout 3) different articles? Should we perhaps merge them? JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 18:15, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, maybe they should be merged. I don't know if F3 Dogmeat is supposed to be a different dog since he ended up on the east coast, but I think it's more like just a reference to the original games. Although other creatures that appear in multiple games like centaur and mole rat have one article encompassing the 3 games. I'd be for it. Metalspork (word vomit) 18:47, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
I too personally think they ought to be merged.

According to cannon the dog is actually a decendant of F1's Dogmeat.

Dogmeat's leveling Edit

In the "recruiting dogmeat" section, it tells about how if he is recruited after broken steel is installed he will be basically indestructable. Why is this not under the "Bugs" section? Is anyone willing to argue that the fact that Dogmeat can be invincible and ungodly powerful isn't a glitch? That should be moved.

Because it is not a glitch. KaisarDragon 14:29, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

Really? you don't think the fact that even though dogmeat originally was supposed to have 500 health, but if you find him after installing broken steel he'll be indestructable isn't a glitch? I mean at level 5 under this condition he can take 3+ giant radscorpions, multiple deathclaws, an entire enclave squad, entire towns, basically anything in the game but certain behemoths (because they keep knocking him down) all by himself with no help from the player. This was very obviously not intended by the developers. He's supposed to level with the player starting at level 20 (which is what happens if you find him before installing broken steel), but instead if you find him after installing broken steel, his health multiplies with each level making him an invincible dog. HOW IS THAT NOT A GLITCH?

IT's simple. If he did not level with the player he would be utterly useless as anything but player home decoration. He would get killed so easily out in the wastes as the player and the enemies level. Thusly, Bethesda programmed him to level as well. They built him so that players won't find him useless and leave him to starve in that junk yard. Perhaps you never noticed how the player is also similarly nearly indestructible? High level + stimpak quick key = you can't be harmed. TestECull

No, sorry you're wrong. Nobody intended for Dogmeat to be invincible. What would be the point of even playing if everywhere you went, your invincible dog just killed off all the enemies for you, (even entire towns, behemoths, groups of multiple overlords). Did you actually fully read the paragraph that I wrote above? "He's supposed to level with the player starting at level 20 (which is what happens if you find him before installing broken steel), but instead if you find him after installing broken steel, his health multiplies with each level making him an invincible dog". When I said that I wasn't guessing, that's been confirmed. Once again, he's supposed to gain health as the player levels, starting at level 20, but instead (when this glitch is active) his health multiplies every level starting at level 1. Don't you get it? it's a glitch.

and sure, yeah the player can save up stimpaks, and therefore essentially have extreme health, but only if the player works to build up endurance and collect a good amount of stimpaks which might not be too hard to find, but if you just constantly use them, you WILL run out. Regardless, the player is not invincible either way. by level 20 or so, (with this glitch) Dogmeat can survive roughly 10-15 (maybe more) direct fatman shots, while the player at the same level usually wouldn't even survive one. & he's a dog for god's sake. It is a glitch.

I'm not a developer or anything, but this definately sounds like a glitch. This was probably a simple programming error, even though it has a huge effect on Dogmeat. I don't see why the developers would want Dogmeat to be invincible, especially considering how this is caused by Broken Steel which also included with the Puppies Perk. If Domeat was meant to be invincible and unable to die, what would be the point of "Puppies", a perk that can only be used when Dogmeat dies.B2tg 02:04, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

As a modder, I know a little bit about NPC and creature level scaling; and I can say with the confidence that comes with that knowledge, that this IS a glitch. They set his scaling to use his base HP with a minimum level of 5 and a base health of 500; this gives him 100 health per level, up to 3000 at level 30. What they probably meant to do is give him a base health of 100 and a minimum level of 5; this would give him 20 HP per level, maxing out at 600 at level 30. A similar thing goes for his damage; he deals 5 damage/hit per level, up to 150/hit at level 30, when it probably should have been 1 damage/hit per level, maxing out at 30 damage/hit at level 30. That's just the impression I get looking at the data in FO3Edit which shows the original and the Broken Steel data side-by-side. Without Broken Steel, he's always level 5 with 500 health, and deals 5 damage/hit. Kris mailbox 02:20, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Yes... Thank you! Finally someone else gets it. B2tg 04:12, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

It might not be a bug because not only does dogmeat become invincible at level 30 but so does fawkes he becomes stronger then any thing in the game and there is no possible way of killing him without console command. Same thing with sergent R-L3. Really any follower that is classified as a creature becomes invincible at level 30.

He's invincible. I once had 8 overlords tagging me. For some reason, the muties stop firing on me. I turn around to see a truly incredible sight. One bugger was lying on the pavement, dead. The rest of them were mobbing something that was friendly. I go in to VATS, ready to pulverise all of them with a Fat Man shot. Sweeping the area (holding down the VATS button) I notice a dog-like shape in the circle of Super Mutants. Name: Dogmeat. As most of you know, Broken Steel makes stuff invincible. I save, then proceed to launch a Mini Nuke into the forray of mutated vermin. The overlords go flying, and i hear a yelp. There he is, standing there like I hit him with a teddy. MPLX Fantasurge 09:46, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Lol, not necessarily 'invincible,' but really strong. Who knew man's best friend could be a super mutant's worst enemy! Chuckalakala 12:27, September 5, 2010 (UTC)
he is not invincible, he just has thousands of hp, and heals after combat. if you continuously shoot him, he will die eventually (took me 6 shots from the MIRV, and 40 bottlecap mines)
Dogmeat can take a shot from the Mysterious Stranger's .44, provided it isn't a headshot. That's pretty ridiculous. Obviously a glitch.John Larson 06:40, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

The only time he did die was when i was level 4, entering the Deathclaw Sanctuary. They mobbed him, so I pegged a nade into the group. But still the Claws killed him before the frag.--MPLX Fantasurge 01:48, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

For me it is a bug too. And as a side effect it makes the puppies perk useless ( as Dogmeat will never die on it's own) and sometimes buggy when it takes a companion slot. as all creature companions (Fawkes, RL3) share the same bug it is not specific to Dogmeat, but it is too bad. Well perhaps not for some players who enjoy to just sit back and watch their invunerable companion beat the game. But not for me. I usually like some challenge in games.90.19.204.149 08:24, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

What exactly does "levels with the player" mean? Does that mean everytime I get a level up, he gets one while he is with me (ie. I get when I'm lvl 10, he stays alive my next 20 lvl ups -> I'm 30, he's 21) or does that mean player lvl = Dogmeat lvl (ie. I get him with lvl 10 and get a lvl 10 Dogmeat who always has the same lvl I do no matter how often I leave him behind or he dies and gets repuppied) or does that mean while hes roaming around with me he gets exp for his kills (ie. lvls up whenever he has enough exp, independently from me)? Maybe it's just me but I find "levels with the player" is a mighty ambiguous expression. Shiriki 23:00 November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Personally, I don't have anything against this. Before Broken Steel, I didn't want to use Dogmeat because I was afraid he would get killed by enemies, or by friendly fire. Now, I can bring him down town and not have to fear him getting blown to bits by muties. 95.109.102.252 16:33, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I'm late, but I saw those two people's argument,This is a fact: Dogmeat levels with the player simultaneously when you download the "Broken Steel" add-on. He can level up to 30.And be very well,"indestructible" Although,if you have Fawkes, his HP level will increase to 15,000 + All followers level up with the player. And also,if you do have dogmeat, use him as a guard dog for your house, one time,Lucas Simms sits down in a chair on my patio,Dogmeat growls, and Simms got up and walked away.So if you have him, tell him to wait in megaton, your suite,or your whatever you camp or live at.So when you have add-ons,the best thought is to have Fawkes with you,(he'll be quite useful in Anchorage and Point Lookout)So In my opinion, just don't use Dogmeat unless you want to find something.Say you want the Victory Rifle, and you don't have a 100 lock-pick skill like I do,he can actually get it!

I've bought the broken steal add on. Not 15 minutes ago, whilst leaving Mothership Zeta for the first time, I was informed that Dogmeat, who I'd been using as a house ornament whilst I levelled to 30, had just died. That's an unwritten bug, no idea if it's ever happened to anyone before, but what matters is the puppies perk prevents stuff like this from having a permanent effect. I'd already taken Puppies! as an insurance policy, lucky me, but to clarify, yes, dogmeat can be killed, whether through glitch or sheer weight of firepower. FYI I reached level 30 inside Zeta, so Dogmeat was as strong as he was ever going to get. 122.106.81.124 10:30, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, but I have a completely different theory. It is not a bug, but intended as a reference by the developers. Many superheroes have superdogs. As noted above, the player, even at 1 endurance(for that level of endurance, that is) has lots of hit points and sort of is a super hero. There's also a mission that references superheroes. See? Connecting the dots.

Dogmeat to the rescue? Edit

Has anyone ever had an experience where Dogmeat will come to your rescue? I was doing the Waters of Life quest and I made it to the Taft Tunnel when Dogmeat shows up behind me. I told him to wait at the Megaton House and didn't bring him along. I'm playing the GOTY Edition on the 360. Chief z 11:27, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

That's a follower bug related to that quest. See The Waters of Life#Bugs for more info. Kris (talk) 13:07, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, guess I didn't see that one there. Chief z 22:37, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

Happened to me. Then he kept following me until I finished the game. I lost him. Sad, I recruited Fawkes. I had Paladin Cross with me so I had to fire her. Suddenly, I get the feeling to defeat all the Behemoths. I killed two so I start at Jury Street Metro. Closest place? Vault 101. Fast Travel there and "Pant-Pant" Dogmeat initiates me in dialouge. I'm so happy and I got two followers. Plus, I guess there's another bug. It says my dog is Dogmeat, but when I tell him to come, it says "Come, Pup, let's get moving." (I have Puppies! perk.) Dogmeat has taught me to love, by abandoning me, then scaring the crap out of me. The Unknown User 03:32, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

That's not really a bug by calling him "pup", your character always says that--Icommandoxx 17:53, March 6, 2011 (UTC)icommandoxx

Dogmeat not at scrapyard Edit

I played every add on and the main quest with no followers. And then one day i found scrapyard. And dogmeat wasnt there. Nor was he by Vault 101. Where might he be?

More than likely you accidently came into close range of Dogmeat at some point during your playthrough without realizing it, having no interaction with him. If that's what happened, it should have caused Dogmeat to begin wandering, which means if he's not at Vault 101, he's out in the wasteland somewhere. because you didn't interact with him yet, he is marked "essential" and will not be able to die. If by chance the game pops up with a little notification in the top left saying "Domeat is unconscious", that means he's close by (near some enemies obviously). If you definately never interacted with him, then he IS still alive, and you will should randomly encounter him somewhere at sometime. B2tg 01:56, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Did not find him at the Scrapyard. Saw the message "Dogmeat is unconscious," in Chryslus building. Located him, saved him, engaged him, and asked him to return to Vault 101. However, I cannot find him at Fallout Wiki 101 Entrance. Where might he be? Wandering?

When I first played, I never went near scrapyard. Then, right after I finished the quest Those!, he ran up to me and joined me then. But, when I made a new file (I had messed up that one), it didn't happen. Weird?

lost dogmeat Edit

I went to the point lookout expansion and it told me that Dogmeat would be waiting for me outside of vault 101, and whenever I returned sure enough he was waiting on me at the vault 101 entrance and I recruited him again, I eventually had to go back to point lookout and just went to the cot and slept on the boat and it told me that he would be waiting at vault 101 again, however whenever I returned he wasn't and I still haven't been able to locate him, any ideas?

That happened to me to i did not want him to be killed by super mutants so I told him to wait at vault 101 then later on I went to vault 101 and he was not their have and ideas?

I have had a similair problem: I return to vault 87 with Fawkes to hack some terminals and pick-lock doors that I couldn't in the "picking up the trail quest" So...I go near the room with high amounts of radiation and I find Dogmeat breathing more heavily than usual,he is waiting...Before this happend I told him to stay at the house in Megaton,(I always do that, because I don't have add-ons and he might die due to low Hit points.) And I talk to him,he then makes a happy grunting noise as usual when I show up. So I tell him to stop waiting, and then I think to myself saying..."How the f**k did he get here?" I take him to lamplight cavern and then he's there,I exit the caverns, then he is not by my side,Fawkes is here, but Dogmeat is gone.I then re-load my save file at Megaton and see that he's at my house. Then I go back to my file, and Dogmeat, again is not there. Then,Blasting loud like a Fat Man up close,I hear Dogmeat howling as if he were killed.I went back to my file and never returned to vault 87 again, because I know Dogmeat would be wiped out of Fallout.Ha ha,so then after this,I asked myself,"Could,"My Megaton House" be linked with "Test labs" from Vault 87?" Hmm....

Dogmeat in Point Lookout Edit

Okay, since it's at lot easier to actually have a discussion on the talk page than when reverting things, let me lay out my issue with the note about getting Dogmeat to follow you to Point Lookout. Currently it reads:

There is also another glitch to get dogmeat to follow you to Point Lookout. When you wait by the boat that takes you to point lookout, ask Dogmeat (or his puppy) to look for ammo or chems. Then travel to Point Lookout and wait about 2 days. He should then appear in Point Lookout.

The issue I have with this is that, so far, I have found exactly nothing which backs this up. Nothing. I've scoured the web for references to this process being how you get Dogmeat to show up; the only things I found were some comments on related YouTube videos and this entry on the playstation forums, which essentially just restates the above quote. I've tried doing the described process myself with various adjustments and permutations with no success (the closest I got was Dogmeat giving me the Whiskey he found after the fade to black before travel, but he still did not show up in Point Lookout).

Then there's the source of the information itself; it appears it was added on July 18 of this year by an (apparently illiterate) anonymous user. The text was later cleaned up by another anon, but that's it. The information was not discussed, sourced, or even (initially) presented with punctuation, and yet for some reason nobody bothered to verify the information or even discuss it.

Now at this point I realize that I was trimming the whole section, and with it all mention of Dogmeat appearing in Point Lookout at all. I was doing this under the mistaken assumption that text to that effect was already in there, so... oops, my bad. That at least is handily verified with not one but two YouTube videos for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Still, I've yet to find anything to show how this glitch is reproducible. Obviously it happens, but there's nothing that shows a consistent way to make it happen.

So, yes, that's why I keep removing that chunk of text. -- Yukichigai 00:48, September 29, 2010 (UTC)

Good reasoning, good process. And thanks for explaining on the talk page. Keep up the good work. Cheers.--Gothemasticator 02:14, September 29, 2010 (UTC)
I agree, good reasoning. I'll try to force it to happen and, if successful, will post a video on youtube as proof. Wanderer from DK 15:48, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

BUG Edit

Vanilla F3, no DLCs or patches for that matter. Dogmeat dies, relentlessly gunned down by those Mutie bastards. I take the dog meat of his body, ready to honour it. Opening up the Pip-boy I fast travel to Megaton. When I arrived, there was a dog around 2 feet down from me. It was Dogmeat, albeit a bit retarded. His body was angled, and his mouth was moving. I talk to him, and the search menu comes up. WTF? Also, I was doing Reillys Rangers, and I fast traveled to the hospital. A big textureless grey blob goes into the air. And his head was f***ing round! If anyone can confirm. And even when I got all DLCs, he was still bugged. If anyone can confirm... --MPLX Fantasurge 01:46, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Dogmeat Randomly Died Edit

I was about to start the Waters of Life quest, while i was in the Jefferson Memorial i told dogmeat to go back to vault 101 due to the fact that i didn't know he was invincible, after the quest i traveled back to 101 and he wasn't there after i completed the main quest and got the Puppies! perk i went back to the vault and HIS PUPPY WAS THERE even though it NEVER said the notification "Dogmeat has died" I got his puppy with me now, so it's not a problem for me anymore i just wanted to point this out.--BadAssFawkes 21:15, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

PS3 GOTY Dogmeat is definitely not invincible Edit

Dogmeat is definitely not invincible as I have had him be killed by a mere ghoul roamer in Red Racer Factory. I got him at level 4 and I am now level 13 and for some reason his has a much harder time of dispatching enemies as when I had him with my previous character. I have also never been able to use him as a pack mule since he always catches me attempting to pickpocket him, this with sneak of 100 and the Chinese Stealth suit. One item that should be mentioned is that for stealthy characters he is a severe hindrance since he follows directly behind you, you will always catch a shot meant for him. My current character is an attempt to prolong level-up as much as possible and for this Dogmeat is useful since whatever he kills does not count as experience points. In order to accomplish this I first scope out the targets, tell Dogmeat to wait, go pickpocket the targets, then go back and get dogmeat, then run directly to the enemy to let Dogmeat engage them. It really is pretty funny when heavily armed raiders are reduced to hand combat cause I stole all their ammo!192.18.43.225 01:43, November 4, 2010 (UTC)Alexi

I think you need to recruit him after completing the last mission of the main game, and THEN he will be under the "effects" of the glitch... I also have the PS3 GOTY version and i recruited him after the last mision before Broken Steel... and he's really something! I saw him take down a Mirelurk hunter in seconds! SomeGuy

End Report from "SomeGuy"......

No,actually he can be invincible,IF you install Broken Steel. Without Broken Steel before you recruit him,he will be in fact indestructible, although when you recruit him you'll be given the option to supply him with a stimpack.

Mystery dogmeat Edit

I've never been near the scrapyard in the game I'm playing now. Mostly I've been cleaning out the metropolitan area and am now at Level 18.

Three Dog gave me the location of Hamilton's Hideaway and so I decide to check that out. Wandering around in that general area, I find Hallowed Moors cemetery and hear the crying of the captive in the church, so I decide to rescue her. I dispose of two of the three Super Mutants here by sniping them with the dart gun repeatedly until they die of poisoning, but the third one, a Super Mutant Master with a minigun, is a tougher proposition and we get into a bit of a dodge-around in the dead trees in front of the chapel. While I'm dealing with him, using mostly a gatling laser picked up from some raiders earlier, I hear a loud growling from behind me. Of course I spin and blast the dog, which I assume is a vicious wild one about to jump me from the rear. Whoops! it's Dogmeat, of all creatures. and now of course totally pissed off at me for being blasted. On top of that, he's still tagged Essential so he's invulnerable -- and hunting me. Any suggestions? Is there a console command to reset his interactions? Wunengzi 23:39, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Lol, I'd try running up to him and talking to him. Even though he's hostile, the game might be like "whatever", and let you recruit him. Maybe that will make him friendly again? It's worth a shot. There may be a command, like a 'setstage' one, that fixes it, but I don't know any of the PC jargon so I can't help in that regard :( Glomulus 23:42, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
Just use the console to "kill" him. He'll fall down, and when he wakes up he'll be friendly again. --Kris User Hola 23:51, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

I went into the scrapyard, and dogmeat automatically started attacking me...so I blasted him with everything I had. Nothing worked...then after reading all this i'm suppose to keep him....can I get him back after unloading on him? I went back to the scrapyard and he's not there...any suggestions?

Broken Steel and Dogmeat Edit

I read about the 'glitch' that makes Dogmeat nearly invincible if you recruit him after downloading Broken Steel. I was wondering, though, if this works for all platforms, for the 360 as well as the PC and/or PS3? Can you even look at Dogmeat's level and HP on the 360? I'm not very knowledgeable about these sorts of things, sorry :) Thanks for any information. --Evindell 21:23, December 19, 2010 (UTC)Evindell

I've made an attempt to clean up this page, but I don't think it's enough to remove the Cleanup box on the top of the article, as the bugs section still seems to be pretty chaotic. Thomasb2k 22:20, January 1, 2011 (UTC)

Constanly heading back to Vault 101 Edit

I don't really use Dogmeat as a follower, I just keep him standing in front of My Megaton House incase I decide I was to use him for anything. However, I constantly get the notice that "Dogmeat is waiting at Vault 101" [or whatever it is] without telling him to go there. I mean I will just be wandering around and I will get the message.

He is always at Vault 101 when I get the message however he just seems to head there on his own.

Does he just tend to head to Vault 101 after a certain amount of time or is this a glitch?

yes dogmeat is set for, after a certain amount of time of waiting, he will return to vault 101, all companions have a point which they will return to if left to long, vault 101 is dogmeats.

Radiation Edit

I was wondering if Dogmeat could take any radiation, and if so can he die from it?

No. All NPC's are immune to radiation --Except for Agustus Atumn and James.DragonJTSLeave me a message 00:19, June 25, 2011 (UTC)

Gender Edit

Dogmeat is a male, right? I've always assumed but after that anon changed the page to make he a she, I've actually thought about it. Is there any point where the player character calls Dogmeat a boy? If not, we should replace any word that mentions gender with it. Yes Man default 09:25, July 9, 2011 (UTC)

when you tell dogmeat to stay when you next talk to him you can say "come on boy" to get him to follow you (122.104.126.12 05:44, July 17, 2011 (UTC))

Crazy Dogmeat glitch Edit

When I did the Synthetic Man quest I sided with Zimmer and told him where his android was but I left right after and did the main story line somewhere else, after I got out of Raven Rock (and my quest was to return to the Citadel) I went to Rivet City to get Butch. Zimmer, Armitage and Harkness were all outside, Zimmer did his whole speech and Harkness returned to being an android, then I knocked out Zimmer and Armitage a couple times, killed a security guard at the gate and I turn around and suddenly there are three Dogmeat NPCs. They all follow me and everything, and I can talk to each of them just like I can the normal Dogmeat. Best glitch ever? I think so. I even brought you some screenshots. Dogmeat not at vault 101 ? Edit

there is a weird glitch when i get to the ninth circle i tell dogmeat to go back to vault101 then i try to hire charon but it says you can only have one companion i go back to vault 101 and dogmeat is not there can someone tell me whats wrong i have this on GOTY on PS3and im level 23 with the broken steel add on

You should be able to have two companions - one human(oid) and Dogmeat. -ΣΔLet's talk! 00:36, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
  • Dogmeat has been known to slip below ground level or through a rock mesh at the scenic overlook in front of Vault 101. Go there and see if you can see his marker on your HUD. If you can, see if maybe one of his ears or his tail slightly pokes above the ground momentarily and try to quickly engage it in conversation. From there, after he rejoins you, fast travel to a new location. Failing that, you could also try hitting the area with high explosives and see if it knocks him into a visible area. Or you could try to "kite" an enemy up there to see how he reacts. Also you could just try waiting or sleeping for a few days and see if he reappears. As always, save before you try that stuff. ---Person of Refinement 00:42, January 4, 2012 (UTC)

Floating DogmeatEdit

I'm playing the 360 version and inside my Megaton house Dogmeat is floating inside the left corner next to the door. Has this happened with anybody else before? It doesn't effect him as a follower so it isn't really a glitch and is possibly just an obstruction screw up. SeaTerror 22:35, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

YOU CAN'T KILL DOGMEAT EVEN WITH A HIGH WATER TROUSER NUKE Edit

Broken Steel installed Level 14 . Ground zero and almost no effect. Charon with BOS armour blown over dead trees 40 paces, and dead. Sydney blown over dead trees 60 paces with arm missing, dead. Dogmeat, DukeNukem right on the head, still standing unmoved and untouched. What a dog!

I just thought of something. Edit

Maybe, when the developers saw the Mad Max movie, they didn't like the part where [SPOILERS] the dog dies and that's why Dogmeat has a huge ass amount of health. -Givem Ee Pancakes, ,your eventual doom. YOU'LL SEE! 01:41, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

xbox360 + PS3? DOGMEAT to the FIRELANCE & AMMO rescue at the SUPER-DUPER MART Edit

DOGMEAT in FALLOUT3 is your way to exploit the game. The game for you is like the Matrix. It exists in 3D. x,y and z axis. For Dogmeat it seems to exists in only two dimensions x,y, Say for instance you have Alien Ammo or the Firelance hung up on the roof, 20 foot up on the second level of the Super-Duper Mart. You can have as many as 15 of the cells on the Roof. You are unable to get at them except with explosives which may just blow some further into the roof. By using Dogmeat and the command 'find ammo boy' all Dogmeat has to do is align the x,y,axis and Dogmeat now has the ammo. The trick is to allow Dogmeat to align the x,y axis. To get a Firelance off the top of any tall building such the Super-Duper Mart give dogmeat the command "find weapon boy" watch Dogemeat scrabble at the base of the Mart or Anchorage trying to align the x,y axis. Dog can't do this because of the walling of the building. Now leave Dog there scrabbling and walk back about 50 paces or until Dog dissappears in the distance, then walk forward and you will see Dog buried in the building with his nose just showing. While you were walking off, the game allowed Dog to pass though the walling to the internal Wasteland inside the Super-Duper Mart where the x,y axis of the Firelance can align with the x.y axis of Dogmeat and Dogmeat can now get the Firelance. The flat internal WASTELAND of the building can be seen at the front of the building by looking through small gaps below the windows and this is what Dogmeat is able to access(the internals) All you then have to do is fast travel the few yards to the spawn point in the car park drawing Dogmeat with the Firelance out of the building. You can do this with all the ammo on the roof as well. You can test this by placing a item lited in Domeats inventory of 'find' well above Dogmeats head and out of reach but as long as Dogmeat can align the x.y axis then Dogmeat can retreive the item . Dogmeat is able to access the Z axis upwards for at least 20 or 30 foot in a hollow shell builing. So much easier getting ammo or the Firelance off the roof than trying to blow it off--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 04:36, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

Dogmeat and Searching Edit

PS3 GOTY edition: Dogmeat will not search if you are in sneak mode. I don't know if this should be included under Notes ?? (Philbert) 174.102.151.214 09:02, January 16, 2014 (UTC)

Missing Dogmeat Edit

I went to point lookout for the first time and did everything. All the quests and found it all. I went back to the boat and went to the wasteland and checked vault 101 and my megaton house. Were is he?

If he's fired, try to wait for 3 days. If told to wait on certain location, try to vist that location again. otherwise if your playing on PC, toggle console commands and input 'prid 6a775' then 'moveto 14'. Hope that helps. ------Cassie I can see you. 04:21, January 26, 2015 (UTC)

Im on xbox 360 and i dont recall telling to wait anywere. As we speak im looking for Fawkes.

As stated above, if fired, try to wait for at least three days minimum in-game, then go back to the usual spot and see if he's there. Otherwise if both companions disappeared from game and cannot be fixed by in-game wait, the only option is to load the last checkpoint before being part ways with them. ------Cassie I can see you. 05:43, January 26, 2015 (UTC)

Dogmeat Isn't speaking? Edit

I can't get dogmeat to speak with me. I have Tale of Two Wastlands installed. I went to do Mothership Zeta and after that I went back Vault 101 to recruit him, he wouldn't speak to me. I've searched all across the internet and I can't fix it.

I've tried:

Disabling and Enabling him.

Killing and Resurrecting him.

Using the Resetquest command.

Killing him, Resetting the quest then resurrecting him. Nothing works. I usually get "Dogmeat Picked Package Sandbox (). I've had this problem with other followers too but, with them I could use resetquest but, that doesn't seem to work on Dogmeat. When I interact with him he just barks.

Dogmeat is a game breaker - but fun Edit

Broken Steel installed. Doggy has been with Fawkes and PC for a few levels. PC takes on the Enclave at water purifier plant then at radio tower.

To be precise, PC hangs back wearing Naughty Night attire. Fawkes is in long range combat mode. I have no idea how the code works, or scripting, but the Enclave folks in their super armor last about 5 seconds per vs Dogmeat. PC never got shot at. With Fawkes as back up, it's a ridiculously one sided affair. The greatest hazard is telling Dogmeat to find armor during the scenarios. The PC can easily end up carrying several tons of gear.
