Got this quest after main questline was over[]

A number of hours of gameplay after the end of the main questline i received this quest again in the form of a synth attack, it was buggy unlike the first time and i had to fast travel several times for the waves of enemies to fully hit. has anyone come across this? 177.242.160.20 02:27, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

also, i can't finish the quest by talking to ronnie, correct dialogue won't trigger`177.242.160.20 02:32, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

I got this quest, with waves of synths, after destroying the Institute, too. Never did it before. Is it a recurring quest, like Kidnapping? 82.45.249.58 16:27, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

The one bug where the "Settler"s go hostile is verified on my PC. Two different attempts on the same game using a previous save to go back and try again. First time I used a machine gun and a couple grenades, second time I used VATS and a sniper rifle. Both times the Settlers went hostile. The moment they did, I went for a walk under water in power armor to Spectacle island and returned, no longer hostile.--Jennifer74PtV (talk) 16:25, February 3, 2016 (UTC)

I have a possible solution for this bugs:

A few seconds after being given the quest objective to speak to Preston Garvey after successfully defending the castle, all allies named "Settler" may turn hostile for no apparent reason.[platforms tag needed][verification overdue] The same bug may present at the beginning of the attack. Any visiting caravan will turn hostile in addition to the settlers.

Maybe someone can test the solution and include it in the article if it works for everyone.

I got those bugs and solved them by:

- Completing a "defend sancturary hills" quest that I was given at the same time than "defend the castle". Completing it required to talk to preston, not only to kill the raiders.

Doing that i solved the issue of settlers and caravan turning hostile at the beggining of the attack.

- not using any explosive ammo or splash damage weapon. And not hitting any firendly in the attack.

Not missing a shot I solved the issue of settlers becomming hostile during the attack.

Hope this helps others.

In deed I completed the quest almost without opening fire by equiping settlers and minutemen with decent weapons and grenades.

I almost didn't had a chance of fighting. 84.127.148.43

Provisioners[]

Added bug entry relating to the possibility of provisioners getting killed during this quest.

Had a provisioner based out of Jamaica Plains carrying a weapon renamed to indicate this route. Some time after completing this quest and finishing end game I noticed that I no longer had a link to The Castle. I audited *all* my provisioners with the data in the "SQV 2058E" command and did not find my Castle provisioner.

Setting up a new provisioner I followed it and found Sturges glitched on the far end of the pond southwest of The Castle in possession of the former provisioner's named weapon - the most likely scenario would seem to be the provisioner losing essential status during this quest, getting killed and his equipped weapon getting picked up by Sturges.

Sturges won't move back to the Castle and will only let me trade, but that's another bug entry entirely, maybe related. Someone else may want to see if they can replicate this - though I've certainly seen mention of losing the Castle provisioner elsewhere. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.251.93.120 (talkcontribs) 03:07, May 7, 2016 (UTC). Provisioners are not essential, although they are protected. It's not clear what Bethesda intended to cause protected NPCs to die. They can always be killed by the PC, and behave like essential NPCs when hit by directly by bullets from other NPCs, but they can sometimes be killed by splash damage from explosive weapons used by other NPCs, or themselves. Vague Details[]

The "Detailed Walkthrough" for this page isn't very detailed. Under what circumstances will the Institute or the Brotherhood of Steel attack Citadel? I assume that neither of those two factions will continue to attack as radiant missions after the main story line, though I admit I do not know as I have yet to finish the game.Piffinatour (talk) 18:16, May 14, 2016 (UTC)

Shortly after being banished from the Institute, by talking to Father negatively at the end of The "Battle of Bunker Hill", the Quest "Burning Cover" started. After talking to Desdemona, I went to the Castle to talk to Preston, who was there and not in his settlement. Before I could talk to him "Defend the castle" started with the Institute as only enemy. Possible Bug Where the Quest Stops at 70%[]

Possible Bug Where the Quest Stops at 70%

I'm new to this wiki, and I play Fallout 4 on Xbox. I am playing the Defend the Castle quest after destroying the Prydwen. I am fighting the Brotherhood knights during the waves when they come in on the vertibirds, and when I hit 70%, the waves stopped. Is there anyone else on this wiki that is encountering this same problem when they hit 70%. If so, please tell me what you did to correct it. I don't want to be the only one here with this possible bug.

Thanks!

Randolph/Weathervane[]

Just did Defend the Castle on v1.6, my Randolph Safehouse 4 and Weathervane:Hub 360 remains active. I'm still on good standing with the BoS and RR, not sure if that matters. --45.78.228.238 03:12, July 7, 2016 (UTC)
