A Better RewardEdit
Obviously, for the sneaky, Gold Bars are a pretty sweet prize, but for those unable or unwilling to glitch these treats out of Sierra Madre, Dead Money left a lot of people feeling a bit unfulfilled. As I've suggested before, I think an electric hot plate in your Lucky 38 suite would be a great, utilitarian reward for completion. Any other ideas?
- Man, so true. The Gold Bars are great swag and all, but if you're already good on caps, they're just safe stuffing and desk ornaments. Elijah's Robes are pretty cool (if you consider them a reward), but it sucks that they're faction-affiliated and so light on DT (it would have been sweet if Veronica could rock them. Or Vera's Dress, for that matter). An electric hot plate in the Suite would have been awesome. I don't know how absurd this is, but maybe even one you could pick up. I mean, it could be 100+ lbs. and therefore completely impractical to carry, but then it could be dropped in the corner of any safehouse. Aside from that, I kinda wish I had one of those hazmat suits the Ghost People wear, but it would make a useless reward since you're unlikely to ever encounter anything like the Cloud again. - But, if you do get all 37 bars of Gold out of the vault they do not have to be Safe Stuffers. First option to cash in a few bars is to visit the Holo Vendors inside Sierra Madre and exchange for Pre War Money. You can give at least two bars to each Holo Vendor and have Pre War Money that remains with the Vendor. You walk away with ~1000 Pre War Money for each Gold Bar, thus losing 35 pounds. Second, The Gun Runners respawn their inventory of Ammo, Guns and 8000 caps. Between the 8000 caps and various items you can buy, you may gt one bar sold per visit. Sergeant Daniel Contreras does as well. Depending on Speech skill you can get Quartermaster Bardon to sell you lots of ammo for your Gold. And all this before GRA add on, which will make available many more options to spend your gold. Then there is Lonesome Road. The three mods each for the Red Glare and the SMMG will use up four Gold Bars per weapon.

I don´t imagine Dead Money being set in any previous area, the background story of DM dosen´t fit with eiter New Reno or Boneyard, as suggested. This BS AGAIN!Edit
What is with Bethesda releasing DLC for the Xbox 360 first AGAIN!?!? Last time with Fallout 3 we PS3 users had to wait 6 months after the 360 release for them to finally come to PS3 and I personally felt cheated when the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3 was released shortly after with all the DLC packs included with the game because not only did I have to pay a total of $50 for all 5 DLC packs but also the retail price of $60 for the game months earlier for a total of about $110 while someone could just by the GOTY edition for $60 (note previous numbers are approximations). What Bethesda and Obsidian should do is iron out all the numerous bugs that FNV is chock full of before even considering the release of DLC packs which is something I should point out Bethesda ultimately failed to do in Fallout 3 on the PS3. Even after Mothership Zeta was released there were still an unacceptable number of game crashes and freezes (i should also mention that Fallout 3 has crashed and or frozen on me more times than any of my other PS3 games combined with New Vegas being the only possible exception). I love Fallout 3 and New Vegas even more so I hope and pray that Bethesda has learned from their previous mistakes or that Obsidian can persuade them to because I really really don't want to be on the short end of the stick and have history repeat again. --BattleBen 06:53, November 18, 2010 (UTC)

- The Xbox is an entirely different set of hardware from your standard x86(-64) based PC; the software is fundamentally incompatible and at the very least needs to be recompiled for each console's processor, but it's highly unlikely it's that simple. I doubt Sony's compiler is compatible with Microsoft's Xbox (or even their PC) compiler, and likely interpret the source code differently. Bugs on cross-platform games are inevitable. - I know this is really old posting but I thought it should be on record somewhere. From the Dev's standpoint the main difference between the PS3 and the Xbox is how they slice their memory. Xbox is one continuous block (system + GPU) while PS3 is spliced into 2 distinct blocks, one system, one GPU plus the GPU can share some of the system ram. At first blush the PS3 should have any advantage but in reality the Xbox has greater ram versatility which makes programming easier since more memory can be allocated to whichever resource needs it. The crashes we all experience in these games are almost all resource (memory) failures of one type or another (failure to allocate properly, or failure to release when finished using it, which then eats it up until the crash-burn happens). Agree with Silverfox6000. If you don't want to pay for all the dlc then wait for the possible GOTY Edition. But what your paying for is the ability to play it now, or in a few months because your on PS3. Something to keep in mind however is that while I love FO:NV It might not get a GOTY edition, though this doesn't phase me because I buy all the DLC the day they come out.

I wonder if OP ever though that maybe the fact that we pay to play on XBL could be a factor? Like TractionEra said, Microsoft pays buttloads of cash for exclusive DLC (at least on games that arn't XBox exclussive). I'm on PS3 too, and my mate has an Xbox. I really can't see much difference. As my friend says, the Xbox is like the rich man's console (You have to pay for Live, it is *apparently* less reliable (e.g. freezes more often, don't credit me on this)) while the PS3 is for people who either can't afford (from other stuff like bills and such) or aren't serious online gamers. As much as I hate waiting, like someone above said, if we payed for PSN, we'd probably have roughly the same release dates. Okay random guessing here, but there's a grand sierra hotel in IRL Reno, and that's about the only major casino in any other city I could think of in nevada, so I mean that's gotta be a possibility right? I agree it does look like fun and there would be no reason to doubt it being in the game, but how practical would it be to use over lets say any of the power fists or variants of the fists they could crush it easy. Also there should be a decent number of new weapons that's one of the fun parts of the dlc

Anyone got any ideas as to what clasifies as an endgame, the article says that the dlc isnt available to those at the endgame but what classifies this? I mean does House Always Wins I count as endgame or could it be something like House Always Wins IV? I wish they would learn from Fallout 3 and let you continue at the end but at this point I dont see how they could continue it even if they wanted to which I understand that they dont. If they did then so many things would be drastically changed and most likely they would have to introduce more followers because most likely you didn't get every follower to stay with you or even survive for that matter and the land would be controlled by a faction and towns would either be fine or suffering/wiped out. (Very few nice endgame outcomes in my point of view).
Just remember that before Broken Steel, at the end of FO3, you fucking DIED. I'm sure that Bethesda will come up with something to get past what, retirement(For the NCR, House, or Yes Man. I think if you helped the Legion, thats probably it, unless you wind up the Couriers grandkid or something in a rebuilt Mojave Wasteland)
As for getting there, I was about to talk to General Oliver(fight at the Dam) before I went to the Sierra Madre. Unless you already finished, or are currently at the Dam, you should be able to go.

Could be but I dont know if they are bad guys or not doesnt it just say that they are the survivers and they capture you or something also you would think that there would be a more efficent way to take controll instead of poisoning the enviroment. Freon, the gas used in real-world air conditioning while not terribly toxic, can cause skin, eye, throat, and lung irritation and in high enough concentrations can cause you to asphyxiate (die from lack of oxygen). Freon is used because it is a relatively safe gas. Well, in the Pitt you got it all back pretty quickly. Anchorage, doesn't need an explanation. At the moment, I couldn't say. We don't know if you're working with people to break into the casino, or if you are already inside it, and trying to access a safe or whatever. It could be a fun challenge. Most likely you will have your stuff confiscated temporarily like when you enter a casino but in the end if taken you will get it back I have no doubts about it. Dont you see a pattern they want you to use the new stuff available and not just rely on your stuff that your great with and breeze through the dlc.All in all I dont see that big of a problem and dont mind as long as I get my stuff back without some of the many glitch's (That New Vegas is known for) that deletes your stuff(Glitch's that delete items not in particular).
Yup, lose all your stuff at the start of the quest. Propably get it all near its ends, or if you decide to turn upon your kidnapper you'll find it nearby to them.
Well I have 100 repair skill and Jury Rigging perk,so that might be handy in getting rid of the explosive collar?
You loose all your stuff throught the entire DLC only when you enter the wasteland again you get your items back.

I completely agree with Bigwill817. I like how every DLC is hard in the beginning because you don't have all your OP weapons from Wasteland with you. I especially enjoyed the difficulty and lack of useful items in Dead Money. I was almost all the time low on cash, ammo and healing items. First time in Fallout I actually had to buy some ammo and stims. It kind of disappointed me when I found the snowglobe that instantly gave me 2000 chips.
I hated losing all my stuff, main fighting ghost people.Honestly a lot of people agree this is one of the worst DLCs and this is one of the resons. Most of the time i spent on this DLC with at least max 100 health. And there's barley any stimpacks anywhere.This DLC sucks so bad i quit it 75% threw it. Its just too big of a challenge with hologram securitey, and the radio frenqueics and the ghost people every where and hard to kill and also one of the worst part about this DLC is how all the collars are connected so for people that always play on hard core, GOOD LUCK!!!

There is only 2 or 3 new Perks, which are in the first 30 levels. Nothing new for levels 30-35. The level cap is raised, but Dead Money got me from 30 to 35 quick. I would have been at least level 37 by the time I left should the level have been raised more. Also, there is only one singular quest line, and it has a good story. This is also very difficult DLC, and most the whining about it is mainly from people incapable of playing on that difficulty.

GBRM2KX Memory Chip Edit
Veronica mentions that Father Ellijah tasked her with collecting memory chips from Robobrains; and as we already know that Father Ellijah is in this; does anyone else think that the GBRM2KX memory chip found at Ranger Station Delta is related to this? It would explain why it's marked as a quest item, and would tie in nicely with Father Ellijah's appearance. Thoughts?

Ammo will either be included in the DLC, or it might take a smaller ammo type like .22 (seeing as the hunting rifle uses .308, its likely they just changed the ammo type to something similar).

It's totally possible. I've personally messed around with the 360 ESM and BSA files but only had limited progress. I converted all of the .xma audio files to .mp3 and .wav as indicated when loading the ESM with the GECK. For some reason, the sound data in GECK makes no mention of XMA and only .mp3 and .wav. It also doesn't link to any .ogg files which is strange considering the main game uses this format along with .wav (and AFAIK not .mp3). I can confirm that the proper audio is playing while the PC is being gassed in the BoS bunker, but after this scene the game is stuck in a loop with a noise sounding like a door loading. The scripts appear to be perfectly fine too so my only guess is it is the .ddx texture format which differs from the .dds which the game uses. There is almost nothing documented on the internet about .ddx either other than the byte order is big endian. I supposed you could replace the textures with existing ones and still play the game (although it would look really funny) but I also read the .nif files are incompatible between pc/console. Not sure if that's true. Anyways, you can currently load the files with no modification and get the radio signal, pip boy message, map marker, +5 level cap, and extra perks associated with the dlc. The BoS bunker will be unlocked but there are floating explanation points indicating missing textures. If this truly takes a year to come out, somebody will mod it to be compatible with PC and even modded PS3s but I'm giving up on it for now. Oh that and it's not legal ;)
Grr this sucks ass i have been messing all night with the geck and some RS download of the DLC but i cannot make the textures etc work :(, the problem are the .ddx files yes... oh well at least i get the 35-level cap :D
Actually, I bought DLC for fallout 3(probably works for new vegas)off of xbox live and then downloaded it to my pc using xboxlive.com, apparently in a format usable by the pc version. you could try that. NOTE: it is saved in the games for windows live folder. Doubt it. You'll probably part ways at the end of the quest-there's cinematics, so they'll probably tell you what happens to them all afterwards. You'll either part ways on positive terms, they may betray you for the treasure (or you them), might die on the way to it, or (unlikely) be killed off by the big baddie. With high enough Speech, you can convince them all to live. Other wise, you will have to kill two of them, and let Father Elijah deal with the third. After that, once you leave, one of them heads to California(But he has the most endings I've seen in one character, thats just one way it ends), one stays, and the other one says he goes to Vegas, but you can't find him after that.
Ghost People = Vampires? Edit

Random health loss Edit
I have been playing the DLC for a good 4 hours and made my way into the casino. I relised that the toxic gas was still pressent but when I was out of the gas I carryed on looseing health. This then carryed on even with the use of 20 stimpacks. Is this suposed to happen? any one had the same problem?
Well there is an achivement for locking Elijah in the vault this may let you escape? but i die when i spawn from this 'Glitch' so i'm not shure
You don't die... All you do is leave the Sierra Madre. You will return to the Fountain. Here, you can continue to explore the Villa, return to the Sierra Madre, or return to the Mojave. If you return to the Mojave, you cannot Return to the Sierra Madre on that account.
If your playing on hardcore mode then you lose health unless you have a special suit. I have no idea where you get the suit but I know there is one because they talk about it at the beginning.

Definately a future DLC involving Ulysses then. Canyon Wreckage has a piece of graf which reads "the divide", and the "flag of the old world", would be either the us flag on his back or the flagpole that he now carries as a weapon. -Wyrmalla
I figured out some stuff about future DLC. 1. "the divide" graf in the Canyon Wreckage cant be a reference to a Grand Canyon DLC, If the canyon wreckage is supposed to be the entrance to the DLC, Because its heading west and the Grand Canyon is east of there. 2. I believe that the Mojave Outpost locked gate leads to The Hub. I-15 goes through the gate towards California, and the Hub is at the intersection of i-15 and i-40. Also it was in the first two Fallouts, and its referenced even in a loading slide in New Vegas. 3. The Canyon Wreckage could lead to the King River in California. Game freeze Edit
Just curious if this happend to anyone else. I go into to bunker, past the door, and towards the radio. The gas hits and I start to pass out. Then the freeze hits, making it impossible to play the dlc. I un- and re- installed the download, no effect. - I had a similar problem. It seems to be a save related problem, possible related to a companion glitch. If I load any of my recent save games, I can't play Dead Money. If I load an older save game, back before ED-E glitched and went missing, I can play it just fine. Hope that helps.
Reload a save before going in the bunker. Tell any companions to leave. Maybe store some unique weapons/armor/other shit in the equipment chest upstairs from the bunker(first floor), then continue to the radio. If that doesn't work, you may as well just be fucked, and have to live with nothing but the level cap raise.

When im trying to do the achievement for locking the evil guy in the vault, i can lock him in and go all the way around but when i get to the door before the elevator there an invisable wall?!?!?!!? Is there anyone else with this or is it just me? remember evil dude has to still be alive cant kill him.
you have to sneak past him undetected before he reaches the bottom floor. When he doesnt see you, he will assume that you bolted to the elevator. That is when you sneak behind him and lock the door via terminal.
I had a problem like that with the maintennance door it opened but I couldn't walk through a reload of a save and a walk all the way back to that door before triggering the vault seemed to fix it.
Problem with a quest or a bug or something Edit
I've been playing for about 4 hours and when I try to do the Dean quest in the theater I can't get into vera's room even when the game is clearly telling me to. Where is the Key? or did I do something wrong?

Great Divide Edit
In the two of the endings, it's described that the courier is drawn into a battle with another courier. One who carriers the message of the old world. Cristine tells the courier about a courier who saved her from events that happened in the Big Empty between her and father elijah. The courier was wearing an "Old World Flag". I assume it isn't the enclave flag since see would have said so given she is a scribe for the brotherhood. The other(player character) bearing the message of a new world.--or something like that. The old world courier is looking for player character. In cristine's ending, she says that she didnt here about the courier until she heard about the great divide. Old world vs New world, the Couriers fought under ancient ruins at the edge of the world.-Not to mention that everytime the old courier was mentioned, you would recieve a challenge 1/5 complete for "Things to come in the Future." Yeah its all hinting towards the next DLC probably. The "great divide" is hinted to at the Canyon wreckage, and the other courier would be the cut character Ulysses-with the flag of the old world (he carries a flagpole and a us flag sewn onto his jacket. -Wyrmalla

I'd say that Joshua will be appearing in the New Canaan one as he was linked to that location in Van Buren; ie in New Vegas it'll be that he was originally from there or the like, as at least some of the Mormons there knew him before he became the Legate in Van Buren. Ulysses will probably be in a later DLC set in the Grand Canyon.-Wyrmalla
I doubt that the Burned Man/Joshua Graham would be in New Canaan, or any where Van Buren suggest, since it isn't canon. Bethesda/Obsidian would probably place him where ever they want. Caesar sais that the Burned Man was kicked into the Grand Canyon, right? So Joshua will most likely be in the Grand Canyon DLC, and the other courier would be in New Canaan.
One of the tips in the loading screens says that the Sierra Madre, the Burned Man, the Big Empty, and the Great Divide are all myths. At the end Dog talks about a battle between the couriers, is this hover dam or perhaps another future DLC.
Dog doesn't say anything(God might, I let Dog go, I haven't finished it with God leaving) but Christine(the Mute) refers to a second Courier, which is though to be, but not confirmed but Obsidian or Bethesda, the cut character Ulysses, a Legionary courier who was going to be a companion, but got cut. And I think it was them fighting side by side(Not completely sure) at the "Great Divide" which is the Grand Canyon, where the Burned Man(ex-Legate Joshua Graham) is rumored to live. It may be upcoming DLC, since the Canyon Wreckage has 2 referrals to "Courier Six" and the Great Divide. The G.E.C.K also hints at The Burned Man and Ulysses, but that my just be about talking about the Burned Man and content they didn't delete about Ulysses.

I've played each dlc about 8 different times to put the whole story together, because every dlc is connected. SPOILER ALERT: first off, Chrstine was the girlfriend of Veronica, but father Elijah took Veronica with him to the Mojave. Elijah abandoned the brotherhood during the NCR/Brotherhood battle for Helios One. And the Brotherhood sent an assassin, Christine, to track him down. She tracked him to the big MT, where she almost killed him, he quickly discovered her intentions and escaped, blowing up a train tunnel as a diversion, Christine was injured and rescued by Ulysses. Elijah eventually found his way to the Sierra Madre, and began with the attempts to break in. He succeded, not with the courier, but with others, he is locked in, and has to get the casino re-opened to escape. Then the events of dead money happened. With Honest Hearts, the only connection is the Ulysses, when he was still a member of Ceasers Legion, was ordered to find, and kill, Joshua Graham. Ulysses goes to the divide when he realizes he has spent to much time looking for the courier (you), and decides to get you to come to him. The reason he goes to the divide is that the town(called 'The Divide') was 'created' by the courier, because he created the delivery path. But he delivered an eyebot, like Ed-E, that sent out a signal to the pre-war missile silos, causing the missiles to detonate. Creating the horrible, deadly divide that it is now. Hope this clears up everything!
Veronica Additional Dialogue Edit

Just to clarify on this (because I had problems) When you talk to veronica, ask about her then about Elijah (making sure you have the holotape on you). Then close the dialogue and stop talking. When you are in the theater and Dean tells you to hurry up to the door on the left (after I get the backstage key from Vera's stand) the door remains locked. So... What do I do?

Quest Bug Edit
I have been playing the add-on all day now and I’m still stuck on the first quest where you find the three others. I have found them and they are all at the fountain, but Father Elijah keeps using the same dialogue about finding the three others and bringing them back to the fountain and the second quest isn't starting. what should I do?
I also think that it might be a bug with Dog/God. I cant seem to recruit him as a companion if I tell him to go to the fountain after the end of the “Collar 8” quest. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I have tried re-downloading the add-on, but it didn’t help.
Same problem here as far as Elijah goes. I'm not sure if he's supposed to, but once I have everyone at the fountain, Dog starts trying to reemerge (I was using God). He keeps yelling at me about how hungry he is.--Grassrunnerdaugher 17:07, June 6, 2011 (UTC)
Getting Dog to Stay Edit
Hey there guys,
So I've gotten the Dead Money DLC and I've come along a quest where I have to get Dog to wait in this one little section with pipes running all around the place and about 5 switches on the wall. Any idea on how to get him to wait there? I've told him to wait there by command but he keeps following me.
You can talk to Dog and either get him food to keep him there...of if you turn left out of that cage there is a terminal on the wall that will allow you to "lock" him in there.
Also, turning him to "God" and passing either a few Intelligence or Speech checks gets him to stay.

It keeps telling me that all the doors leading out nof the place won't open till I've repaired the gas pipes, and I've repaired two, can't find any others, and it still won't let me out. Any ideas?
Ok I'm an idiot I found it in the hallway, although I maintain that it's a stupid idea telling people to look for a dull grey pipe in the room full of dull grey things....
New Safehouse? Holorifle mods Edit
After completing the DLC i cant help but notice the Abandoned brotherhood bunker makes a perfect safehouse if it is indeed safe. There is a bed, workbench, reloading bench, and a dropbox you can pick up sierra madre chips in to use in the Sierra madre vending machine also located in the bunker. I'll test and see if it's safe to store items there but can anyone confirm?
Alright I edited the Adv. Calibration(Decreases Spread) but theres a rumor that there is a third mod for the holorifle that increases its durability (Adv. Parts). Has anyone found to confirm? I think that the only way it would have been better was if it continued the game(Like Broken Steel) and let you keep a companion. It was fun, and has the "fucking creepy"(Especially if you figure out the whole story of the Sierra Madre) factor I couldn't find any where in the Mojave. The story is also the best of any DLC I have ever played.
Yea it was a let down for me seeing how it didn't feel like the "Heist of the Centuries" at all. Possibly if you weren't being held against your will then maybe I could have enjoyed it. The only thing I liked was scavenging for items to stay alive which most people I assume do not like that. One thing that I did like was the hints to the things to come. Over all I probably wouldn't give it that high of a score seeing how there wasn't that much of a thrill.

It's possible to not kill him. As for him not showing up, that's just laziness on the part of the game designers, and their desire to give you nothing but items and a new safehouse after you finish the DLC. I agree completely. I wasted 2 days and $10 on the most frustrating thing I have ever done. I compleatly agree with your statement but you have to remember that fallout 3 started with really shitty dlcs then SLOWLY got better would have been much better if the casino was reactivated and the poisen cloud wasnt there and you could go back to the location LIKE ALL THE OTHER DLCS!!!!

Maybe its because this DLC required a little intelligence and strategy to get through? Holograms are easy to get around, all you need is Sneak, Repair, OR Science, not all three. You can get around them, disable them, or reprogram them. Are you guys really whining about it being too hard? And the reason you can't go back is to keep in line with the story. You were dragged there by Dog, and had to wander back to the Mojave.. Also, don't even start bitching about the POISON cloud when you can't even spell poison.
I agree I do think that it didn't live up to be a great casino heist that it was supposed to be. Instead it feels like your being forced around and not be able to free roam as freely as you want until closer till the end of the dlc other then gold bars and the holorifle I personaly didn't find anything special about the items or the new perks that you get. I think it could be better but you shouldn't be ranting on a wiki talk page.
This is possibly one of my favorite DlC's. You get some good loot, and have a very fun Horror/Puzzle experience. There were parts where I was frustrated to, but I liked a little challenge. My favourite DLC for sure. Just finished my second playthrough and enjoyed it just as much the second time. Very impressive character development considering it was just a DLC. I too found this DLC far too tedious and boring to enjoy. It felt like work, and work that I do not enjoy. Some of the ideas were novel, but after leading one NPC to their spot in the Villa and performing an additional task just to get them to stay put, I had had enough. Then it became clear that I had to do the same with all three NPCs. Even after navigating the senseless and infuriating Villa, I entered the casino only to have to deal with more tedium: holograms and the like. I'll concede that there was more thought put into this DLC than most quests in FNV, but Obsidian needs to keep things in moderation or they won't be enjoyed by anyone but the game designer. Dead Money is my second favorite expansion (after Point Lookout). The situation felt very contrived and artificial, but if you can get past that, the challenges and the story are both fun and interesting. I'm the kind of player who approaches challenges with caution, so I found the holographic security easy to evade or disable. "Run and gun" players will probably not find this expansion to their liking, so be warned. It's more about story and finesse. Bit of a surprise at the start because I'd only put points into Guns, but letting Dog deal with enemies for me, I soon had a police pistol and plenty of ammo. Ammo, food & water, and stimpaks were in ample supply, and I never ran short. I played on Hard / Hardcore at level 30 (used the console to limit my level to 30), so players who use other settings may have a different experience. Overall a good time with lots of atmosphere, and I'll be sure to play this one on my next play-through of the game. --KineticKat 21:52, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

It happened to me to in the Mojave as well its just a glitch I dont think there is anyway you could get him to follow you even though at one point when talking to him the companion wheel showed up but thats not a discussion for this page so ill get back on track and just say that you might find more information in the glitches page.

Can't leave Sierra Madre (360) Edit
At the end of the DLC, I am unable to leave the Sierra Madre. The dialogue pops up at the south gate, I select to leave, briefly see a loading screen, and then it goes black. My console becomes unresponsive. The only unusual things to note:
I am carrying 1000000+ caps (Primm bug)
I am carrying 104 Doctor's Bags and 144 Stimpacks on account of winning the max at the blackjack table. My WG is 440/290.

Hey same thing happens to me although i am carrying nothing unusual. i have tried everything from re-downloading switching hard drives and going back to a later save. all i can do is wonder around sierra madre but wont let me leave any tips?????
Still not completely sure if this works but it did for me. so what you do is when you select travel to Mojave then push the guide button and wait until it completely loads

Caravan cards Edit
Can anyone put a guide to finding them?

Does anyone know what to do if the Sierra Madre cards don't get added to your Caravan deck? The first time I played Dead Money the cards automatically were added. Can we get some solid info on how much you can explore this place? I'm reading that there are certain places with radio signals that you can't get near without dying. Do these signals ever go? It's not as open as you want it to be. Its really just a central location, with the casino to the north and a long path/road running east and west with buildings restricting your movement to an almost linear fashion. Sure there are alleyways and rooftops, but it is basically as free as the Pitt from FO3, after raiding the casino there's really nothing else to do unless you have a fetish for killing ghost people or didnt find all the weapon mods beforehand.
Once you have done the finally part of this you end up back at the fountain WITHOUT a COLLAR. This means you can explore anywhere that previously had too many shielded speakers. You can even go back into the Casino. But once you leave and go back to the BoS bunker you cannot go back to the DLC.Kaldhore 15:58, February 17, 2011 (UTC)

No, you don't get to return. You cash in the vouchers you get at the drop box in the BOS abandoned bunker at the holovender in the bunker, which is the only place you can spend them. Leveling up before starting Edit

What difference would it make? I went in ~23 or so and came out at 27. Ghost People are really easy to kill. Especially once you find out how great cosmic knives are. And how would one use the special attack without 50+ melee? That is how it would help. Getting the skill points for skills that didn't get much attention previously. My unarmed and melee are very low, and from what I'm reading, ammo is scarce in Dead Money, so clearly adding points to those skills would help. Ammo for the Police Pistol was not scarce when I played Dead Money. With conservative use, I finished with over 100 rounds. Of course, I was playing a character that was 90+ at both melee and unarmed. Most my attacks were close hand, not with guns... So, hmm, yeah maybe the ammo could be considered "scarce" if one had very low melee and/or unarmed. But also .308 rounds and microfusion cells, which I never used, were not hard to acquire. Second time I played I used a character with low, low melee and unarmed (like 15 each). He had very high gun, energy, sneak, repair skills. I basically used Dog to help clear out all parts of the Villa before leading anybody to the place they have to stay at for the grand opening. But after that, I noticed on regular difficulty it wasn't that hard to kill the ghost people, even with bare trap fist, although I usually weakened them first with the police pistol. So even this route (using the pistol much more) I haven't found ammo for it to be scarce; I dropped below 100 rounds only once before entering the casino, but then I found more in there. --Sp3lly 20:10, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

Unable to send companions to Lucky 38 Suite, AGAIN. Edit
After getting a new xbox that could read discs, just so I could play Fallout New Vegas again with the huge patch, I also purchased Dead Money. Loading up my once "dlc glitch" save, I fired Raul, because I wanted to have Boone again, but the option to send Raul to the suite was never offered and he just went to his stupid shack, and it happens with every companion I rehire and fire. Had to upload Yes Man originally so I could send companions, and, not being able to do so, have no idea how to get around this, does anyone else?(posted on both presidential suite and Dead money talk pages, as I'm unsure what the problem might be) 18.104.22.168 22:41, January 25, 2011 (UTC)
Poisonous cloud bug Edit
I don't know if anybody else has encountered this yet, but I've run across a persistent poisonous cloud bug. The game never registered that I left the poisonous area, so my health is still being drained after leaving the area entirely, sleeping for several days, using the autodoc in Vera's suite, and restarting the game. I even tried going into another poisonous cloud to see if that would trigger it. No such luck, my health is still being drained. At this point, I'm done. I can't keep pumping myself full of stimpacks forever, and losing sight of the health bar for even a few seconds could kill me. Yeah, on hardcore mode you constantly lose health throughout the town. Suggestions: before starting Dead Money, get the implant that gradually restores health (from the Doc at the New Vegas Medical Clinic): this implant basically counteracts that gradual leaching of HP in the Sierra Madre. That way you don't to constantly be sticking your self with stimpacks. And you don't have to be in direct sunlight for this implant to work. Also, when you have this implant and lose health for any reason (attacks, poison gas) you can go inside a sealed building (like the medical clinic) and your HP will be restored if you WAIT there for a few hours. Sleeping on beds exposed to the outside air is no solution. And the I assume the higher your Endurance the more you are able to withstand the persistent poison in the air -- although without that implant the DLC is a major chore to go through. --Sp3lly 18:05, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Actually, this bug does exist. I play in Hardcore mode, and yes, exposure to the cloud slowly diminishes your HP, but when entering areas like the Sierra Madre Casino, which is supposed to be cloud-free, the health still depletes, even at the same rate that when standing in a concentrated pocket of it. I ran out of Stimpacks and Food items real quickly, and neither patching yourself in the autodoc nor restarting the game fixes this issue. This sucks. Reloading some old save and avoiding high concentrations of the cloud seems to be the only way to circumvent this, altough some specific area of the map may trigger this event. I hope somebody find a solution to the aforementioned bug, or Obsidian releases a patch to corect it, because my previous saves were overwritten, and I don't want to start Dead Money all over again. --Turkman96 00:40, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
I have this same bug. I contacted Bethesda for support and the response (from Josepth T) was pretty underwhelming, it shows the level of respect they have for their customers. "I am sorry your save game has become corrupted. Please try a previous save and/or new game."
A better solution for me was:
Use God Mode (Console - tgm) to temporarily stop the loss of health. This happened to me near the end of the DLC content so it was better to complete the game using this cheat rather than repeat hours of gameplay. I will try not to spoil anything here, but right before you're allowed to leave the DLC area you can turn God Mode off again and the health loss should stop. The other option is to return to a previous save. If you're close to the end of the DLC this may be a better option. --Jon
I actually have this bug for the third time in a row (on both Normal & HC). Most amazing, I am actually able to reproduce it. Sierra Madre Casino Suites, the gas pocket after the first Vera Hologram. Hugging the right wall, I get through...if for any reason I want to return the same way I came (also hugging the wall, which is the most logical way to avoid the pocket), the bug occurs and I am blessed with a neverending drain of Hitpoints. @Jon: ToggleGodMode somehow didn't worked out for me. Sleep indicator stays at zero the entire DLC? Edit
- xbox360 Both times I played Dead Money on hardcore mode, the sleep need stayed at zero the entire time. Is this normal or a bug?
In addition, when I returned to the main game after completing the DLC Dead Money, the sleep indicator still stayed on ZERO. And I never switched out of hardcore mode at any point during the DLC or the main game. Now I know that is a bug, right? The only way I could trigger the SLP need to be active again was, ironically, to sleep for any period of time. Not sure if its bugged to 0, but in the Dead money area you cannot sleep. Even on normal mode if you try to sleep it says that it isnt possible in this zone. I would presume the designers thought this whole episode takes place in less time that would normally require you to sleep - or that time is slowed down to that close to or at normal (real life) time. Probably is an oversight or presumption on the designers that the sleep indicator doesnt return to normal after you leave until you sleep again. - To remedy this bug on PS3, go to the police station and in the center cell at the back of the building there is a skeleton lying on a mattress. That is the only sleepable bed in the police station. Sleep on it for any duration and it'll restore the SLP meter to the usual wake up value (of 2) and will continue functioning normally. As an added note, consumables that provide anti-drowsy stimulants are very rare in Dead Money but the Mark IX Auto-Docs in the Villa Clinic are programmed with the option to administer an adrenaline shot that will alleviate your sleep deprivation (reduce to zero). This is seemingly the only other option aside from sleeping in the rare bed you find sealed away from the toxic air.
- When I played the first time around, I hadn't discovered this trick until I slept in one of casino hotel beds near end of expansion. Instead, I used my imagination to justify the lack of that function. My idea was that the toxic gas while deteriorating my body also caused my body to be constantly on full alert and function with adrenaline consistantly coursing through my body keeping me awake throughout the short duration (matter of days, at most a couple weeks) that my character spent submerged in the cloud. However, now that I know how to make the function work again, this time around I'm playing it through normally. And I just started this expansion again a few days ago! :)
- Note: I also had the SLP meter cease working when I went to Utah for Honest Hearts. Same method worked there too. I still have yet to play Old World Blues and Lonesome Road so do not know if it'll work there as well (if the bug is that repetitive). Demon971-- 05:28, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
- I've heard this from confused people all over, so I'll add it here hoping people see it. The meters on harcore can become stuck at nul. This is due to a script that refreshes all your stats when you enter and exit the DLC. Sometimes your RAD level will stick, too. There are many indoor beds in Dead Money you can use to renew your SLP meter if you want. As long as you are indoors, away from the cloud, you can rest in a bed. I haven't found a way to get the RAD meter unstuck, but I've only had it happen in Honest Hearts. Still, it is a minor bug. Sometimes coming out of the DLC into the Mohave will lock your SLP bar. SLP seems to be one everyone sees as the script to renew SLP is last. I'm guessing maybe the game loads the next area too fast? There is an initialize, then restore process. I loved Dead Money. I think it was exactly what New Vegas needed. It was a good challenge. I thought the puzzle and horror aspects really made the DlC. The new characters were fun and intriguing, and I enjoyed how each one's perk was tactical for the environment. As for loot, the gold bars were great, the chips to be used for items were great, the Holo-rifle was pretty cool, the Auto-Rifle was pretty boss, and the Hunting shotgun and Gauss rifle were good(yes I know that they are in the base game). The story was very interesting to me, and I liked how at the end it gave you hints to the next DLC's. And the game ran glitch or bug free for me.--Bigwill817 02:27, February 9, 2011 (UTC)
Agree with Bigwill 100% As a basically good karma character, but an absolute confirmed thief, the Dead Money storyline fit into my main game beautifully. I love rescuing people and stealing stuff, and got totally immersed right from the beginning. I first played the DLC on my 2nd playthrough of FONV (level 30) and it absolutely breathed new life into my game - I just didn't want it to end! I had read that it was best for melee/unarmed based characters, but that turned out to be totally untrue. You can rely mainly on guns/explosives if you want. The resources are scarce, but there's more than enough of everything if you're diligent. And, yeah, I've played Dead Money twice now without a single bug/glitch/crash - wow!! Impossible to finish (endless loop) Edit
Okay, so I had a peaceful resolution with Dog/God in the kitchen; talking to him with my speech of 90+. I don't recall if it was after or before I had repaired the third gas pipe leak; I assume after. The problem now is that when I go to the Suites to find the mute, I cannot complete that quest. Because when I try to use the key card to go through the maintenance door (or whatever door leads back to the part of the suites where the mute is), I get a message that says that I cannot open this sealed door because of a gas pipe leak in the kitchen. Well, that's great! Because I cannot use the regular elevator to go back down to the lobby (and then the kitchen) because this elevator says locked (needs key). So WTF? I reloaded from before I went up to the suites and rechecked to make sure all three valves in the kitchen were turned off -- which they were; and God/Dog was kinda pacing the floor. So whatever. The first time I played the DLC I killed Dog in the kitchen but I wanted to go a different route this time; i also completed the Dean scenario without having to kill him. But I cannot complete the third scenario. It appears unsolvable. Which is absolutely frustrating. Anyone else this problem or a possible solution? --Sp3lly 20:03, February 12, 2011 (UTC)
Its a Different Kitchen. The Kitchen Where Dog/God is, Is in the Cantina - Not the suites. I am so pissed off right now. After slogging through this gruelling, infuriating endurance test of a DLC (Dead Money) that's *supposed* to pass for 'fun', I've arrived back at the Mohave to find ED-E at Primm, hostile and killing everyone in sight the moment he sees me (yes, I have already completed ED-E My Love...that's not the problem). He's in the store where he's supposed to be, but when i walk in he goes crazy, killing Nash and his wife, then exits in pursuit of me, and kills everyone around. After starting the DLC, and talking to the hologram of what's his face, the game freezes a few seconds after the conversation ends. I've tried reverting to other saves, but it continues to freeze up after the conversation. Help?

Didn't really think the red "X" on the back of the Dead Money jumpsuit was significant at the time (just thought it was kinda cool-looking), but after finishing the DLC (which I absolutely LOVED) I helped Lt. Carrie Boyd interrogate (beat the hell out of) the captured Legion Centurion, Silus, at McCarran and noticed that he's wearing a piece of power armour (shoulder) with the same red "X" on it. Massive Reference/Easter EggEdit
Okay I was researching films today (don't ask why), and found one called "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", initially I thought this was obviously a coincidence- there are a great many "Sierra Madre's" in the world, but when I looked for more information on the film (and the book it was based on) I found a great many similarities between it and the FNV DLC. Firstly, and most obviously, both feature a group of people searching for gold in the Sierra Madre (in one, a casino, in the other a mountain range) and in the film/book one member of the group becomes paranoid and tries to kill the others to get the gold for himself (which, according to Elijah, is what most of the previous "teams" have done). Also notable is the town where the group meets- Tampico, the name of the SM's theatre. I'm quite surprised nobody has pointed this out before (or maybe they have, I just haven't seen it)as it is fairly notable.

I have thrown every diagnostic tool that Google and my own experience can at it to no avail. There are several ways into getting the crash for Dead Money. Most are pointing to having some specific quest items. However, it is also known that if you complete Veronica's Quest (I Could Make You Care) or in the process of doing so, it can crash. This is confirmed on my save. Loaded to a game before I met Veronica, did Dead Money and it loaded fine. Previously, it kept crashing at the same point. So try and load something earlier and see if that does the trick. Missing Laser Pistol Bug - CRASH Edit

Levelling beyond 35 Edit
Has anyone else been able to level beyond 35 with this? If you go into the pip-boy it will say "MAX" on experience, but I still got more, then when I got level 36 it went to 98000/101000 (or thereabouts) ... Headgear bonus staying? Not on my PC it didn't... Edit

On my XBOX, when I began Dead Money, it stripped all my gear but the stuff that you can't drop... I happened to have Motor Runner's helmet and it's bonus to melee weapons. Didn't glitch the bonus or anything, but it did beat being naked in the Villa. With the Jury Rig perk it's easy to keep it repaired too.
PS It's sure a shame the camera doesn't work, I could have gotten some good pics for MichaelAngelo!

Sierra Madre before the war and end bug Edit
I was thinking when in the Casino, this would have been so cool before the war.So I think there should be an extra or add-on where you get to live in the Sierra Madre before the war and not only playing in the casino but also meet people like Frederick Sinclair, Vera Keyes and Dean Domino before he became a ghoul.
Also at the end of Dead Money when I return to the Mojave Wasteland it freezes when the ending is about to start, I was wondering if there is any way to stop this, or will have to wait for an update and if I do when will it come?

- Normally, you cannot go back into it. However, with the magic of console commands you can! The door back to the villa is directly under the radio in the bunker. You'll have to use TCL to clip through the floor. Once at the Villa, the door back will give you the same message to remain or leave. However, selecting leave does nothing! In case you never got your answer: Everytime I have entered the inner vault there has been one in the Tool Cabinet in the corner. I've also been able to pick one up somewhere in Salida del Sol. It has been said that more can be found but I haven't found them.

Dead Money Health loss glitch fix. Edit
If you have the bug from Dead Money that causes you to be taking constant health damage even when your not in a concentrated cloud area, and/or this damage continues even after you have finished Dead Money and gone back to the Mojave.
Probably only one or the other of these console commands is needed but I used both because they both relate to The Cloud damage triggering on your character.

These are the quest ID's for The Cloud damage and The Cloud DOT effect while in Dead Money. The xx in the beginning is indicative of the fact that those two #'s could be different depending on which DLC you have. In my case they are 01, but this might be different for you.

Oh gods, typing in resetquest 0300C543 was the only one that worked for me - but it worked! I got the glitch from noclipping through the floor under the radio to get to the DLC. I returned to a Goodsprings home mod because Dead Money wouldn't let me leave via the usual exit. It still registered me as being in the cloud (on hardcore) even in Goodsprings. Dead Money Crash On Launch / Bug Edit
I just ran into a peculiar bug. It took me a long time to trace it down. Basically, whenever I got gassed at the start of Dead Money, the game crashed for no apparent reason. Enabling or disabling mods or load orders didn't matter. I even re-installed Dead Money/Honest Hearts and patched to the latest patch.
Basically, if any of your companions (in my case Veronica) is carrying a load bigger than he or she is supposed to, the game crashes. This can be done if you, for example, load a follower up to almost full and then dump a large amount of ammunition in their inventory. The game only takes the basic weight into account and suddenly they are carrying more than they should be able to do (but it will still say 250/250). This causes the game to crash, even if said follower are not in your group when Dead Money is supposed to start.
Could someone try this and confirm, before I enter it into the bugs section? I tried it a lot of times on my setup and it's very consistent (100%) and I can recreate it at any point. Luckmann 00:08, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

I got God waiting to flip the switch and now I am taking Dean to his place. However, every single time I open the door to Puesto De Sol or where ever, game crashes. How odd. Shouldn't Frederick Sinclair appear in the characters category? He does not appear alive nor can be interacted with but he physically appears and is mentioned many times.

can you purchase any weapons etc from merchants in the mojave after beating dead money which are only found in dead money? (eg can i buy cosmic knifes or knive spears from merchants after dead money) because on the old world blues page it says you can do this with some owb stuff and it doesn't say here so i thought i'd ask. ps same question for honest hearts stuff
No to the Dead Money items. I have yet to find in multiple play throughs any Dead Money introduced item available at any Mojave merchant. I have however been able to find Honest Hearts introduced items available at Merchants after the completion of Honest Hearts DLC. Hardcore Mode Dehydration/Starvation Glitch (XBox 360) Edit
Very recently encountered a very unusual bug while playing Dead Money in Hardcore mode - any time I reload my savefile my H20 and FOD meters get bumped up to around the 200-300 mark, while SLP gets reset to zero. I have Dead Money on PC and I didn't read any guides on it before hand. I'm at the part where you have to confront Dean domino and I screwed up at the very beginning and I guess insulted his ego so now he wants me dead but I want him to live. Anyone know of a console command or something I can use to undo my screw up without having to restart a whole nights worth of work? Thanks any help would be appreciated :).

I am at the switching station,Dog will wait but not agree to pull the switches,he,s hungry, but i have killed all the ghost harvesters in the area.I have an intelligence level six and cannot continue in the quest.any suggestions?.

- reply:Well at the cage I took a Mentat to increase mt intelligence level and read the diagram, which told me I now had the sequence for the switches, to relay to god/dog.I then had to play the audio master tape to change dog into his god alter ego.As my speech level is 90 I had no problem in persuading god to stay and so continue on.If you look at switches they tell you that you do not possess the physical strength to pull them.

I tried DM after completing OWB, thus managing to have a STR of 325 and still was unable to convince God/Dog that I could pull the switches. BTW 325 came from STR of 7, then buying a STR implant before going into OWB. The replacement of my spine in OWB boosted STR by 2 making 10 while wearing light armor. Since installing OWB, and in fact visiting Big MT before going to Sierra Madre, I have still been able to get all 37 bars of Gold out of the vault. The trick I learned somewhere in this Wiki. Even though it takes a while, walk to the rear force field, next to the Maintenance door. About ten feet before reaching the Field go to 3rd person, save the game, drop the gold. Then shoot the Gold toward the Force Field, taking two more shots after it is against the Force Field. Yes, you will be shot by the turret while you are shooting the Gold toward the Force Field. Proceed to killing Elijah, or not, and make your way around to the maintenance door. Turbo chems or the GRX implant will help. once through the Maintenance door go back to third person and pick up the Gold, again a Turbo or GRX implant will help with the pickup. Then make your way to the elevator. I was able to repeat this process a number of times. I found that Elijah made it to the covered walkway every time, making it impossible to bypass him to just lock him in the vault. We all know that when going to Sierra Madre we lose all items from Mojave. It may be called a glitch but, if after adding Couriers Stash you go to a save game that is inside Sierra Madre you will be granted all weapons and armor that the Couriers Stash gives you. The not so beneficial part of this glitch is that the minimum armor and weaponry that is granted by Dead Money is better than that which is granted by Couriers Stash. Dean Domino Backstage Key Issue Edit
I've noticed a topic has already been started in regards to this issue but it didnt help me in the slightest. So after my conversation with Dean I disable all the holograph emitters and find my way to Vera and the Backstage door, even though I clearly have the key I cannot enter either door to progress in the game. I've tried restarting my conversation with Dean and even though I'm sitting at a level of 37 and a Speech level of 95 no dialogue appears to change the conversations outcome. I'm at a loss here and want to continue playing because I enjoy everything about this gamne up uintil this frustrating point. I understand I need to get into the backstage door and even though I picked the key up infront of the stage just before my conversation with Dean and even though my inventory clearly states I have the key I still cannot enter the room to continue in the game. If anyone has a fix for this it would be greatly appreciated.

This is purely speculation, but I googled "dead money" and looked at the Wikipedia page and the slang/derogatory meaning of the term seems to be why this DLC was called "Dead Money".
From Wikipedia: "In poker, dead money is the amount of money in the pot other than the equal amounts bet by active remaining players in that pot...The term "dead money"... can also be applied to the player himself: "Let's invite John every week; he's dead money". The term "dead money" also applies in tournaments, when many casual players enter events with virtually no chance of winning."
I am going to try to add a Trivia section (as my contribution is purely speculation and I havent asked Bethesda whether my explanation of why the DLC is called Dead Money is correct), though I'm unfamiliar with wiki markup/syntax so I apologize if I screw anything up. Also I'm not sure if speculation is allowed on a topics page so I'm sorry if it isn't.

"'Dead Money' is a slang term used in poker to refer to a player that contributes money to the pot and believes they have a chance at winning, but in reality they have almost no such chance due to a lack of skill or experience. DLC not loading Edit
I just finished a game in which I successfully completed Dead Money. When I started a new game, all the other DLC's loaded, no problem, but Dead Money is conspicuously absent as a quest. I did not get a notification that my level cap was increased, either. Dead Money is registered under my 'Downloadable Content' as Fallout: New Vegas- Dead Money. All the other DLC's only have their direct names, exempla gratis Honest Hearts or Old World Blues.
What the heck? Do I need to level up first or something? I don't remember that being the case.

Quest Not Activating. Edit
After you put all the 3 followers in their places to start up the gala event the game said i completed the last companion quest (which was dean's) and it didn't start the quest which is supposed to lead you to the courtyard which remains locked. In my quests i have no quests related to dead money and i cannot talk to the hologram guy
I think the sentence "Since you do not keep your items when entering the Sierra Madre, low-Endurance characters will have a tough time because healing items are limited to snack foods and the odd stimpak." Should be changed to maintain the tone of the article. "Tough" should be changed to difficult. Dead Money worst of the DLC? Edit
I gotta say, this Add-on was the most interesting, but also the least fun to play. I liked that they took your items and made finding little things like stimpaks and cartons of cigarettes a thrilling experience. Made survival a big issue again, really set the tone for the gameplay.
But it made survival just a bit too difficult, Ghost people had too much HP, in my opinion, I know they're supposed to be tough to kill, yadda yadda, characters tell you to avoid them rather than fight them yadda. Ya if the game thought I should avoid the monsters maybe my companions should be passive by default? That would've been nice, every companion in the main game is set to passive, so I never bothered to check. I suppose that's nitpicking, but I feel a few tweaks could've made it a much better experience for when I first tried it two years ago, I only just beat it yesterday. Didn't bother trying again until I had the bonuses from every other DLC. Also took advantage of Rawr's Talon being a quest item so I could make the Fist of Rawr weapon to use, made things alot easier.
In short a really inspired idea with a lot of flaws, I think anybody trying this DLC for the first time will have a better experience if they turn the difficulty down to very easy, especially in hardcore mode, just playing it on normal difficulty, hardcore mode off with every cheap trick(fist of rawr, slayer, silent running, nearly every skill maxed etc) I brought with me felt aggravating. The gauss rifle is not included in the weapons available in this addon, When you kill elijah you can grab his gauss rifle.
