Fallout Wiki policy on real world weapon references[]

We don't put real-world weapon references on article pages, unless it's the same name as the real-world weapon, or if is mentioned by a developer that the ingame weapon is intended to represent a specific real-world weapon.

So what could the maplewood stock and brass plating possibly do for this weapons stats is what I'm wondering. And why can't I put a scope on it? What's the deal with this gun?69.183.228.55 17:40, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

The maplewood will probably make the gun more accurate or durable, by providing a more solid stock. The brass plating might increase the speed at which you could move the lever and therefore increase rate of fire. No scopes because scopes are for the weak and cowardly. Yeah, scopes are over-rated. ^ Plus, rigging one on a lever-action rifle is kinda' hard. :P And, why would you want something as plain as a scope?
All I want is a damned lever action sniper riflle and you guys have to get all elitist on me. :p
But seriously, maplewood making the gun more durable makes sense, but doesn't do a lot for me performance wise- I keep my guns in tip top shape anyway. Brass making the lever move faster? That's insanity. Unless the original plating is rusty or something like that. Rigging a scope on a lever action isn't that hard really, and it makes for a sniper's weapon with a more refined taste. See: http://rapidfirearms.net/images/24.jpg
You may call snipers weak and cowardly, but get in his scope and you'll be dead, and... dead.71.234.106.119 03:26, June 15, 2010 (UTC)
He's trying to be creative, get 'im, lads! 217.42.214.90 19:38, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
According to Sawyer, the brass plating doesn't increase the speed of the action, it's the other way around. The mod that gives you the custom action also slaps brass plating on the rifle, because the custom action has no visible components. No idea what the stock does, but it's interesting to see that even "invisible" mods give your gun a visible upgrade.--Resplendant Securitron 00:03, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

Cowboy repeater[]

How do you describe the iron sights for this gun. It has like a circle and then the thing on the end. Idk, help me out please. Also hi this is my first post. --ToxicTed22 04:03, October 22, 2010 (UTC)ToxicTed22

I'd call it an aperture sight but I might be wrong. Ddd44 05:39, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Custom Plating[]

Where can you find the Custom Plating for the Cowboy Repeater? You can get the Maple Stock and the Long Tube at the Crimson Caravan Company (NW of Vault 34).

Glitch[]

An inventory bug has made repairing a modded Cowboy Repeater a real pain. (Please confirm that the following bug doesn't also occur with unmodded Cowboy Repeaters). For about 240 caps I buy a Cowboy Repeater (condition about 50%) from a vendor, intending to use it to repair my modded CR. If I attempt to buy this gun while carrying the modded CR in my inventory, the bought gun disappears completely, never making it into inventory. SOLUTION: Before buying the new gun, drop the modded gun on the floor. Buy the new gun, but notice that as it now lives in your inventory, it has (fortunately) become fully repaired! Fire off a couple of rounds with it to drop its condition below 100%, then drop the gun on the floor. Finally, pick up the modded CR, then pick up the bought one. At long last, both will be visible in the inventory where you'll be able to repair the modded Cowboy Repeater!

Real World Analogue[]

Does anyone know what model of firearm this weapon most closely resembles because it doesn't look like any lever-action rifle Ive ever seen.--BattleBen 07:29, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't need a real world analogue. This is a Fantasy/Sci-fi game. --97.83.178.170 05:12, December 1, 2010 (UTC)
Looks to me like a Winchester, but some sort of modification of the 1892 variant, which could fire high-pressure .357 rounds when manufactured with 20th century technology. EganioTalk 19:38, January 15, 2011 (UTC)

I just watched "Legends Of The Fall" and noticed that Decker uses a gun eerily similar to the Cowboy Repeater. His weapon is a Sharps 1874 fitted with a Vernier Tang Sight. I'm sure this is the model gun, as the Sharps is known to be a highly treasured and accurate gun. It's also used in the film "Pale Rider" by a character named "Michael Moriarty", maybe a reference to Fallout 3 also? Link: http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Legends_of_the_Fall#Sharps_1874

Stuck Reloading?[]

Seems to keep reloading indefinitely from time to time on companions. (Tested on PC with both Veronica and Boon) This is easily fixed by removing the weapon from their inventory. --97.83.178.170 05:15, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

RBR Bug: Other cause[]

While I noted in the Rapid Reload discussion that the reload animation and the actual mechanical reload might get "out of sync" with eachother, there might be another cause to the RBR bug. When reloading an RBR weapon, the reload can be interupted by pressing the attack button, effectively "confirming" that the player would like to use the weapon right away instead of waiting for a full reload. This is to provide the player with immediate firepower at the cost of not having fully reloaded the weapon, a usefull thing when caught in tight corners with an enemy that might only require just a few more shots to kill. Taking the attack option into consideration for "confirming" a reload, full or partial, another cause for the RBR bug can therefor be that after a full reload, the weapon is awaiting a confirmation of the reload while no more ammunition can be loaded. This implies that RBR weapons would, at any given time, await a confirmation of the reload, interupted or fully reloaded. If this would be the case, than it would have nothing to do with reload speeds or animation synchronization. --Radnus 81.205.186.16 13:06, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

I can't believe I've been missing out on an extra cowboy repeater for over A DECADE! Only just now that I found the one under the reloading bench. RedSnt (talk) 09:53, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Removed or bugged jamming animations for manually-reloaded weapons?[]

So, I recall that during the early release stage of the game, I remember weapons such as the Cowboy Repeater, Brush Gun, Trail Carbine, Lever-Action Shotgun and Hunting Shotgun had jamming animations when your weapon condition was low enough.

I can’t recall when this changed or why these animations were removed or if they were even intentionally done so.

The game still has these animations present, as enemies who use these weapons in low condition will still trigger the jamming animation, but for some reason they were removed for the player.

I do have some proof of this, as after a few weeks of looking at gameplay videos around the time the game released, I managed to find one or two instances where it was recorded.

Here is one example, at 2:30.

If there’s anyone who would be willing to datamine to check, I’d be very appreciative.
