Shouldn't this be affected by pyromaniac as well as cowboy? I got it because it thought it would be a mini-shishkebab--Ze5ro1 02:14, January 8, 2011 (UTC)
so unlikely[]
First of all, how does it stay "super-heated" forever with no power source? Secondly, the handle is clearly glowing orange just like the blade. How the hell does he wield it without burning the shit out of his hands? This weapon doesn't make any sense and I can't even see how the collection of cosmic knives and spears even fit in with the theme of a super high tech prewar casino/vault. I mean for crying out loud, holograms can kill me and I'm supposed to be afraid of prewar ginsu knives? Zac hemker 17:35, January 9, 2011 (UTC)
The blade stays super-heated as it is made of a (fictional) material that
retains heat at astronomical levels. The reason there are so many is because they were the sharpest in the Pre-war (possibly current too?) world, and far more were delivered than were ever ordered. The shost people just found the overabundance of knives and made best with what they have. --A (Hopefully) helpful Anon 2:08, January 28, 2011 (CMT)
Notes-Section: "450 Degrees"[]
...Fahrenheit or Celcius? I really have no clue. ;-) Maybe a nice thing to add. ColdDevil 22:33, March 7, 2011 (UTC)
This would have to be Celsius, 450 degrees Fahrenheit isn't enough to make metal glow, where as you need at least 470 degrees Celsius to make metal emit a visible spectrum of light.173.180.103.194 03:29, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
Active Electric HP - NOT regular Hot Plate[]
The article indicates that a Hot Plate is one of the ingredients used for making the Cosmic Knife Super-Heated.
It is the "Active Electric Hot Plate" that is used -- not a regular Hot Plate. As such, should this article clarify that?
Nah mate, you need a regular Hotplate [item] to craft a Cosmic Super-Heat. Doesn't make too much sense, though I guess you could say that heating the knife (since it melts tables) ruins the Hotplate you used, since it burns it to ash. There's only 4 item Hotplates that I've found in Dead Money, but there are a few more to be found around the Mojave Wastes Saccade 12:11, June 19, 2011 (UTC)
to answer some questions[]
for one, cosmic knives ARE Deadly because they never dull out and can cut through just about anything, also im pretty sure the handle of the dirty cosmic knife is made of wood, and wood does not conduct as much heat as metal does. another thing, you ARE right about it being to cold for metal to glow, however we still dont know WHAT alloy the cosmic knife is made of, and also fallout logic is "different" in a way..........., oh and the article even says "When heated, they were known to have amazing heat retention, and would stay hot for hours." although it doesnt say forever i think the game developers thought since we cant come back, it will just stay like that forever.

- "also im pretty sure the handle of the dirty cosmic knife is made of wood, and wood does not conduct as much heat as metal does"
...lol, yes, wood isn't as conductive of heat as metal is, but its combustion temperature is quite low, if the handle were made of wood, the only thing you'd be holding is the remaining ashes, watching as the superheated blade sets whatever it touches on fire. --Bottletopman 09:41, December 4, 2011 (UTC)
hi so yea just a guest but the article on saturnite seems to imply that that's what these knives are made of as it talks about them I think in a quote, is this confirmed? --137.186.215.66 17:55, November 2, 2013 (UTC)
