Advantage - Stealth[]

Some might already know this but, a sneak of 100 "or 60 and above" and the chinese stealth armor +15 sneak makes it impossible for a npc to spot you. I practically made it through the entire game and five dlc's without being spotted. I mean dang! you can walk right up to any npc and basically taunt them.

But was it fun? Or did it kind of feel like you were just taking a tour of the game.... 99.165.192.119 03:46, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

Well it was either using the chinese stealth armor or wasting the 500+ stimpaks in combat that i got from trading with the outcasts.

Possibly a tad bit more stealthy[]

I have recently found that combining Poplar's hood with Lag-Bolt's shades and Recon armor allow to have more Sneak. Stats ahow that it has 18 Sneak, 3 Lockpick and 1 Agility!

Why not combine them with the Chinese Stealth Armor, instead of the Recon Armor? which would get you a 28 pt. Sneak, 5 stealth field, 3 Lockpick and 1 Agility! boost.

Or why not use the Chinese Stealth Armor glitch to put on the Shady hat also? That gives you 33 pt Sneak and the same as above--217.208.1.133 10:08, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't need to ask but I haven't started Broken steel yet.--UltraMegaUltraMan 18:33, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Yea, this combo isn't very well thought out, and there's also the fact that the stealth armor has camo abilities. I've changed the topic title accordingly. --Clean Up 22:28, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
yeah the multiple hats glitch can be useful, but its also just hilarious Infamous Andrew 06:26, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

So has it actually happened?[]

The article states about the term Hei Gui: "It does carry racist undertones, and unfortunately, Bethesda has been recently attacked for using the phrase." Can someone provide a link for these attacks? Has it actually happened, or is it just someone (99.237.244.123) who wants to force their point about the term being racist by making this stuff up? Either way I've removed the point until someone provides some evidence for it being racist and having caused some backlash. --Clean Up 20:48, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

All I've seen is one thread in Bethesda forum. Ausir 21:20, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
From what I've read and because I speak some Chinese I doubt this was intentionally racist. Using the term "Hei Gui" or "Black Ghost" by Bethesda was almost surely a name they picked to be in line with something like "Black Ops" with a Chinese flair, hence the Ghosts. This fits both with the nature of their work, carrying out an invasion of Alaska, and with their armor, which is black obviously. However it is also a racist term for Blacks in China. However I don't think that's appropriate for this article unless it's just in a Trivia section. It has nothing to do with the game or the armor set. Maybe it could be added to an article about general criticisms about Fallout 3?

http://www.thechinaexpat.com/racism-in-china/ 24.215.169.178 13:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

LOL the blogger in the link says "It can be difficult getting a job teaching English in China if you are black". Oh really? Did you know there's a show on CCTV with a black guy doing just that. ON TV! It can't be too difficult now then if he can get his own tv show now can it.

I recently lived in Chna for six months and my girlfriend pointed this out before I ever even heard about this -- she is Chinese. Its basically slang for a black person.

There's also no evidence backing up that Bethesda had been attacked for using that term or anything related to fallout 3 for that matter, just a guy ranting about Chinese been racists. - (211.30.152.8 02:50, 3 June 2009 (UTC))

Yes! Can we stop with all the racism crap? Honestly, 'Black Ghost' just sounds like a bitchin' phrase, like Silver Phantom, or Red Devil! 124.182.93.173 04:24, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Racial slur?[]

You know that "Hei Gui" is also a derogatory term in Mandarin for black people?

It's said so in the article. Ausir 05:45, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Frankly, this isn't true. "Gui lo" (lit. 'Ghost People') was what was used to describe Westerners (white people). Now it refers to both black and white people, with "<Color> Gui" being black or white people. It is in no way derogatory. It is often used interchangeably with "hei ren" (lit. Black people). It is not derogatory innately, but can be depending on the tone. 208.97.121.178 16:56, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
"It is in no way derogatory"??? Really? Sorry, I was always told hok gwei (black ghost) or bok gwei (white ghost) was offensive, as the root - ghost - is basically likening the person to an evil spirit. I have no reason to doubt my older relatives, and we sure as hell don't address the caucasians or blacks in our family by such terms.Shadowgm 16:47, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Shadowgm

The Baike Internet Encyclopedia has a pretty clear discussion of this topic at http://baike.baidu.com/view/431855.htm: "Heigui (English: n----) is a strongly derogatory Chinese term used to describe people of African descent (blacks), except in extreme circumstances, this term is not frequently used." (黑鬼(英文:n---)是中文中对非洲裔人士(黑人)的强烈的贬称,除非在极端的情况下,很少会有人使用这个词。)

Heigui has always been the translation used for the n-word in the Chinese newspapers, when reporting on the topic of racism in America.

I know that in the US everyone get easily offended when it comes to racial terms when compared to Europe(specifically Holland, 'cause i live there). But does it really matter? Its a cool name for a really awesome suit. Don't always try to find the negative side of things. Hessen 13:02, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, that's like saying (insert racial slur) is a good name for a car, and we shouldn't get our knickers in a knot about it, 'cause, like, it's a really cool car. It's simply being observed that the term has an alternate usage that players might want to be aware of before flinging it about in public. And we are talking about a game that was edited out of deference to cultural sensibilities about nuclear bombs.Shadowgm 13:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)Shadowgm
I'm Cherokee and I have no problem with the jeep. I don't draw a line from a piece of shit stock jeep and the name Cherokee. People are offended to easily. And why would the Chinese be offended at all by nuclear bombs? The Japanese were devastated by nuclear warfare, not the Chinese. Thythythy3

You should keep in mind that i'm Dutch, and not American. We have a total different view on things. Let's take the -in the US- dreaded "N-word". It translates to "neger" in Dutch, but in my country and language its a perfectly normal and common word, and they are actually called that way. But let's not stray off to much. I was actually talking about the literal usage. Hei Gui, or Black Ghost is pretty cool, you'd have to agree with me on that. Hessen 21:07, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I took out the subjective connotations, and left the pertinent information that people can draw their own conclusions with. I don't really care who's got an agenda for getting butthurt over it. There's no evidence that 'there are some seriously racist people at Bethesda', in fact many of the quest themes and rewards in their games indicate the opposite. And if you're going to post 'n-r' into an article, have the courage to spell it out without censoring it; you're not fooling anyone. --97.81.77.13 05:03, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Ooohkaay... i was just having a normal conversation about cultural differences. Nothing more, nothing less. And i'm not, as you say, Butthurt over anything. Maybe you should learn to see the differences between a normal conversation and a racial dispute. I also dont see the reason why you'd react in such a way. The only reason i brought it up is that i think that people shouldnt get upset about every little thing, and that the meaning of the word, as used ingame, is pretty cool in my opinion. It may be my English, but i guess you kind of misunderstood me there. Hessen 17:28, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

I found an interesting blog post on this matter: http://erasingthesun.blogspot.com/2007/06/china-and-black-man-pt-2.html

A Chinese person commented on my original post that the term hei gui, literally "black devil", is the Mandarin equivalent of the English word "n-r". This is wrong, and actually, it couldn't be further from the truth. The phrase hei gui in Mandarin essentially means a bad, corrupt, or evil black person. While this certainly isn't a nice thing to call someone, it also doesn't carry any racist undertones. (...) Additionally, the term hei gui isn't reserved for black people alone and is sometimes used to describe bad people of different ethnicities.

Ausir 15:40, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

While I agree with the blog post that hei gui does not carry as much historical baggage as the n-word, it's naive to say that Chinese have an absolutely neutral viewpoint regarding Africans, or even dark skinned peoples in general. There were protests in '88 over interracial dating in recent history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjing_Anti-African_protests
This is not to single out Chinese as more racist than anyone else, just that they are fallible to human foibles as any other peoples.
With that said, I don't think Chinese Reds would name their stealth units "hei gui". To me, this is similar to using the dragon as the symbol of the PRCs military in CnC: Generals. It fits more with the depiction of China in the West, then China itself. Though I do admit, this may be what the developers were going after, since Fallout is an American-centric game after all, in design and theme.
As an aside, let's say that if the US in Fallout is a reflection of the 50s US, then China should be a reflection of 50s Communist China. Communist China in the 50s was trying its best to shed backwards beliefs. This included bad things like opium and foot-binding, but also relatively harmless things like Confucianism, traditional Chinese religion, or Chinese mythological elements like dragons, ghosts, and "jiang-shi".
I just did a short search on Special Forces in China. What little I could find, indicates that Chinese don't seem to use nicknames much for their special units. When they do, it mostly has to do with animals like eagles, wolves, or tigers. No mention of ghosts or dragons. So maybe, "hei gui"'s "gui" was mistranslated by US soldiers in Anchorage and is actually "龟", which would make them "black turtles". :P

I love you Ausir =3. Hessen 22:02, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

how about we get over this really fast because this, this is getting so goddamn old? ahhhh! there might be word in fuckin Chinese that means black/n-r. what ever shall we do? this whole word is going to split apart. in real terms, it is going to cost the company millions of dollars( if you didnt realize that can happen, then too bad)which is going to tear upcoming patches,DLCs, and other goodies/games. so for the love of god, get the fuck over it. that part was history of African Americans. you do see that i used the word "HISTORY" not present, past. PAST PAST PAST AND FINALLY PAST. this have been fun but i got to go.hope i dont have to come back here.--That70sdude 02:39, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi there, I myself am a Chinese and so far I have never seen or heard a black person been called "Hei Gui", they are addressed as "Hei Ren" from what I have seen in the usage of my language. The word "Gui" is in indeed negative, "Bai Gui"(white ghost) and "Ri Ben Gui"(Japaneses ghost) are both offensive, yes. Though I suppose "ghost" is not the best translation here, it's something closer to "scum". These racially offensive "gui"s originated from the two invasions, one from Japan and one from Europeans, thus the more traditonal generations of China still tend to use those terms when addressing a Japanese or Caucasian. 17 February 2009

Hello, I noticed there was a "heated argument" here and being a fan of fallout 3 and being a very open minded and impartial individual, I thought I would add some input here. First off, I know the subject is Chinese translation, and honestly I don't know a single word of it. But I am, however, of Japanese decent on my father's side due to a marriage with a American Vietnam/Korean war veteran and a Japanese woman. I was brought up with traditional ties to my Japanese heritage(out of pride/choice) and I am aware of the history between Japan and China. I believe racial slurs/racism is wrong, but I also believe people get "bent out of shape" over it. Words are just words and I wish more people would realize that. Too many people seem to freak out whenever some one or something may be suggesting a racial slur or opinion. I think (and hope) one of these days all people will just get along. Is that so hard? Same for religion, why can't I believe and you believe whatever we want and still get along? If more people were impartial(treat others the way you want to be treated)then we wouldn't have war and we could actually solve some worldwide problems e.g. World Hunger, Global Warming. With all nations working together, we could do a lot of good and possibly prevent our self extinction. OR in a very broad sense prevent what happened in Fallout from being a reality. I hope this can make sense to some of the "hard headed" people out there.

--71.114.90.152 03:37, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Robert Darkly

I'm Chinese, and I think I can solve this little problem for you all. Y'know how sometimes armies get nicknames like "Big Red One"? This is the exact same thing, only it's meant to be a mix of both "black ops" and ghost(À la Ghost Recon). Since the dragoons you meet in game are inevitably the stealthy/sniper type, 黑鬼 would likely be a sobriquet for them. 118.100.71.55 14:09, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

I'm a Chinese native speaker grown up in China, and moved to US a few years ago. Hei Gui (黑鬼) is the "official" Chinese translation of "n-r". It also means Black Ghost. However it is rarely used as a racial term in China. (The only places I've seen this word is used are in translated articles or in articles describingracism in US.) I do think it might be more appropriate if they use word like An Gui (暗鬼), which means Dark Ghost, to avoid unnecessary controversies. I think this game is sloppy in all Chinese related stuff. Seriously, if you can find a Japanese to make voices for a sub-character, why can't you hire some native Chinese to make voices for Chinese soldiers in this game, as well as making Chinese words in this game more natural?

People can grow up. African American is seen as derogative by some, and prefer to be refered to as black; while some are the opposite. Personally I wish people would get over words, its the meaning that the person who say it has not the word that is actually bad; its the same with curse words, they are still just words. Now if I were to say "that GD Gui lo" or "that GD Hei Gui" that would be racists. Be nice if one day people realize that racism would dissapear if we all just ignore stupid things that seperates us. If you say thats impossible take a look at your dog, you think he gives a rats ass if your other dog is a different color, it prolly doesn't even cross his mind. Sometimes higher thinking makes us low creatures. I am in ignorist, I hate ignorant people of all races and nationalities. It creates problems just having this conversation, so freaking drop it. No one should have to walk on egg shells when they don't feel a certain way just because others choose to be offended(that is a sort of racism). Sorry for the rant just tired of this.

if you honestly think that your example there is 'a sort of racism' then i'd question whether you actually know what racism is. 90.206.122.149 14:19, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Seriously "Black Ghost" is now a racist term? Come on! Who ever started this needs to be punched in the face. How is Black Ghost racist? Black Ghost sounds like a cool phrase to me. Seriously who ever started this just wants attention and needs to stop it and back off of Bethesda and I konw were refering to Hei Gui, but it's just a word it's how you use it that counts. They were not using this as a racist term, just a cool name to use, so just drop this stupid racist crap. Also, people like that, that just sit around waiting to find something that sounds racist that isn't can also be refered to as a racist them selves. I hope people will just learn to let race go. Were all the same in body, mind, and spirit.St-13_Gamer 06:49, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

I guess you didn't read any of this post before commenting, did you St-13? I can also tell you don't know any Chinese or else you'd say differently. "Black Ghost" isn't racist, but "Hei Gui" most definitely is. The most innocent explanation is that a non-native Chinese speaker (or someone who doesn't speak it at all) at Bethesda thought the same thing as you - that person thought of a cool English phrase and just translated it straight to Chinese without consulting anyone. I'm certainly not suggesting that Bethesda had a racist intent, since the term doesn't even make sense in the context of a Chinese soldier wearing sneaking armor. Someone goofed and did something negligent, no big deal. That being said, I'm Hong Kong Chinese, and the term is indeed a very crude way of referring to Black Americans. "Gui Lo" and the like were created in the language during the times of oppression by western powers. It was an angry term at its origins and the connotation is still valid today (although the anger has passed). It doesn't quite have the same sting as the n-word because the Chinese never enslaved Africans - but try using that term in any Chinese speaking territory and anyone within earshot would think you're either rude or poorly raised.68.64.192.105 01:51, March 12, 2010 (UTC)Sam

We can turn anything into a nasty word. All's y'alls are douchebags. :P (Case in point.)
I went ahead and removed it from the article, because they obviously didn't mean it. Same thing with "Mariposa" being slang for "gay" in Latin American countries. Nitty Tok. 12:32, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

If its anything like the stealthboy using enemy's in previous Fallout's, then you'll be able to see something along the lines of a distortion, the same way you see your own character in 3rd person. Atleast, thats what i think. Hessen 12:59, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Guys, you realise that you can spot them with V.A.T.S. and they show up as friendlies on your compass? - Zip Loc

My guess is these guys are gonna be like mini boss fights, and if you kill them, you can use their own armor against them, but still, these guys should have a weapon like a modified katana, not the officers sword Werewolfhell 16:59, 9 January 2009 (UTC) Using vats will allow you to see them.

Key word is "Chinese" Katanas are Japanese, Chinese officer swords are Chinese. simple.

Ya know, unless there's a major disavantage when using this suit, I think it will be VERY overpowered. We're talking of an armor that can apparently transform EVERY kind of character into Solid Snake on a newgame+ with the Stealth camo. I mean, unless they compensate by making this armor impossible to repair and making it running out of power after a while, it will be "use stealth, win"even more than in the original game. Furthermore, I hope there will special stuff as badass as this one for the different archetype of character. Maybe a super-power-armor, even more powerful than the T51b, for the bruiser-kind, something that would be halfway between power-armor and mecha. Hey, there's already a super gauss rifle for the snipers. And what about the heavy-weapons? Since it's a simulation that doesn't influence the main game, I hope we will be able to toss a few mini-nuke with the fat-man.

It will likely be balanced by the fact that there will only be one copy outside the simulation, so you won't be able to repair it. Ausir 22:57, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Um.... Ausir, you realise you can repair them with recon suits? James 21:27, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

I somehow doubt that, but my main major worry is that most people wil go into operation anchorage, get all the equipment, and quickly make the behemoth look like a radroach Werewolfhell 18:06, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

It's possible to make the Behemoth look like a radroach using weapons from the main game. Just try taking one out with the Victory Rifle playing a character with 18% base critical chance. The Behemoth will be knocked down constantly whether you fire on it in realtime or in VATS (or both). Some of the shots will even send the Behemoth flying straight up into the air, giving you the opportunity to pull off skeet shots. Haven't seen the result of a knockdown on a flying Behemoth though . . . too bad they're already dead on my save.76.123.119.26 19:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

It's worry me too. But maybe there will be a way to prevent level 1 player to get their hand on the best stuff. On the other hand, it is very possible to get overpowered stuff early on in the vanilla game. A321's plasma rifle anyone? Futhermore, if I ever learn that there is no way to repair that pre-war stuff, I will not be happy at all. I mean, the only reason I never use the vanilla T51 is because I know I won't be able to repair it to 100%. I don't know, maybe the stuff respawn, maybe you can do the simulation over an over again to get more loot, everything but unrepairable stuff, seriously.

The stats on the armor are ridiculous... 100 sneak and stealth field? Essentially i could spent all my points to lockpicking, computers, and to some weapon and then sneak to everywhere without problem and kill all without enemies fighting back due me being more or less invisible. Hope that modders will fix this soon after the DLC comes... 88.115.124.211 23:33, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I know the preceeding comments were before the release of the DLC, but I want to point out that the armor is in fact broken. Sneaking with its 5% stealth field and a total modified sneak skill of 100 (85% + the suits 15 should work), makes it impossible for most enemys to spot you. you can simply walk up in front of most enemies while crouched and melee them and they will not go past [caution]. Doesn't seem to work on most talon company mercs, and I haven't had the guts to try on a deathclaw or behemoth, but otherwise, it may as well be perfect invisibility but for the fact that the 2nd attack doesnt get sneak bonuses.--Sotanaht 08:04, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

It's not completely broken until you take Silent Running. But when you do, you can pretty much melee anything to death with impunity-- I killed the Ant Queen with the Shocksword and she never fought back. Playing around with it with my other character, I now have a modified Sneak of 100; combined with Silent Running, Light Stepper, Better Criticals, and Pyromaniac, there is very little that I can't kill in one hit with a level 3 Shishkebab. I *think* a Deathclaw took two, but my Melee Weapons skill on that character isn't very high. It is sick and wrong and I LOVE IT; it's the ultimate Assassin build.

Careful how you throw around the word "broken." Yes, the suit may be overpowered. But it behaves exactly the way Bethesda intended(with the exception of the multiple headwear glitch.) An example of "broken" equipment would be the Winterized T-51B, since Bethesda unintentionally gave it near-infinite durability.
It's not broken, just one of the devs forgot to place the correct version in the armoury. That Furry Bastard 10:20, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

IF YOU THINK THE GAME IS TOO EASY WITH THE CHINESE STEALTH ARMOR, THEN DON'T USE IT. It's not like they superglue the suit to your body once you loot it. Also, Stealth Field isn't something new that was introduced in Operation Anchorage, you've had access to Stealth Boys from day one. I don't use either of them, I leave the Chinese Stealth Armor in my house in Megaton, and I sell any Stealth Boys I get, because I like sneaking the old-fashioned way, cause it's just more fun when the monster/whatever actually sees you if you carelessly step into it's field of vision. You can do this too: Just Say No. 99.165.192.119 03:45, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

Also, idk if its a glitch, but when fighting the chinese enemies you can use VATS and see them, but the percentages will be 0%, you can use that as a guide to shoot them fast enough that they turn visible

Well i killed the survivor in vault 106, she used a stealth boy, i could see her quite easily, mind you i did corner her and no-scoped headshot. im getting operation: anchorage soon :D Ollyeng 20:46, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

Headwear Glitch[]

I've found that by equipping this armor you can have an unlimited number of hats. Once you have all your hats on you can swich to another armor and still have all the hats. 71.224.189.253 22:18, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I currently have 8 equipped and my head is now invisible. Paul (Evil) 22:49, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Too bad you don't get the DR bonus. But you do get the special effects. So... Lucky Shades + Three Dog Headwrap + Eulogy Jones's hat + Shady Hat + Chinese Commando hat = 2Luck, 2Perception, 2Charisma. Wow.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a piece of headwear that doesn't clip or look stupid? I was using Red's Bandanna, but that fails both tests when wearing the CSA. (A Wanderer) 04:54, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

  • The Enclave officer's cap fits nicely and actually looks pretty sharp. 67.242.155.16 16:00, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
  • Three DAWG's headwrap doesn't clip, it fits nicely. The Shady Hat clips, but looks awesome nonetheless.BSMaker 04:56, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Well actually 3D's wrap clips, just like normal ones. But I have discovered that Raider Blastmaster/Wastehound helmets work perfectly, and even cover up unsightly glasses clipping. So I'm gonna use the Boogeyman's Hood from here on. (A Wanderer) 04:09, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
  • It actually IS possible to get the full Damage Resistance benefits from multiple pieces of headgear. It requires you have another set of armor to change into, though. After doing the Anchorage Campaign, I couldn't think of anything I enjoyed more than the T51b of Fallout lore, so I've been stomping around in the suit with Three Dog's Head Wrap, Torcher's Mask, Ledoux's Hockey Mask, Button's Wig, a Stormchaser Hat (negates the PER -1 from Button's Wig), a Brotherhood Power Helmet, an Outcast Power Helmet, a regular Power Helmet, and the T51b Power Helmet. Once you've equipped all the desired hats, swap to another armor, such as the T51b. As long as all the headwear types are different, the game recalculates your Damage Resistance total for the new outfit, including all the hats.
  • There is a visual DR cap, dependent on your character's inherent DR, but that only means the game stops counting on-screen once you reach that cap. As a test of this, when it stopped counting at 73 for myself, I kept adding helmets and went out into the wastes to find a Giant Radscorpion, ever my arch-nemesis (they creep me right out). Just my luck, I found a pair of them and simply let them attack. Though they were going for a double-team offensive, each hit was still only taking off roughly 10-15 health. I think the game caps your DR at a supposed 95, even if it'll only shows on-screen what it calculates you as being capable of. Either way, there's something new for you to try. RadAway 08:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)RadAway
I think the defence rating cap is 85 as stated in the Toughness perk.
  • You know what fits nicely? AntAgonizers Helmet! Makes you look like a human-fly thing, pretty snazzy really! 124.182.93.173 04:06, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Repair[]

Does anyone know of a way of repairing the suit back to 100%? There's nothing on the Wiki page for it...

Never fear--It can be repaired using Recon Armor.--Niksilp 15:22, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Ah, my bad, didn't spot that. Thanks!

Didn't test it, but does that mean that the neural interface suit will work as well? (A Wanderer) 04:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Heh. Seems that getting Sticky was worthwhile after all. I found yet another thing to Bethesda to patch. Big town here we come! BSMaker 05:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC) Mind actually writing in what you found?Aryeonos 22:58, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Stealth Field[]

Where does the 5% Stealth Field come from? A 5% Stealth field seems rather weak (compared to the StealthBoy's 75%), but the effect looks identical (or nearly identical) in game. It definitely improves sneak by enormous amounts. Admittedly, my character has 100% Sneak, but without a Stealth Field I'm incredibly limited in my ability to sneak within about 5 feet of hostiles in low light, or ~30 feet in good lighting on open ground. With even the "5%" field from this armor, I can come within a foot of enemies, in moderate-to-good lighting without being noticed. The only time I've been seen prior to firing a shot is when, in pitch blackness, I ran into the shin of a Super Mutant (damn near had a heart attack when it roared). Escaping from Raven Rock was trivial with this suit and the Dart Gun, because no matter how many times I shot guards (from five feet away on occasion), I could run and hide with zero risk of being seen until I went back to Hidden status (no need for the save and reload common to the stealth build). So can someone explain where the 5% comes from, cause as far as I'm concerned, it's near 100% effective. -Anonymous User 18:15, 04 February 2009 (UTC)

The "5" is not a percentage value and is not stated as such. The value comes straight from the G.E.C.K., I just double-checked both items and Stealth Field +75 for the Stealth Boy vs +5 for the Stealth Armor is correct.
To elaborate, in my understanding the Stealth Field is the area around you in which enemies can detect you. The higher the number, the closer you can get before they can potentially notice you. The number itself is probably some ingame distance unit, not sure. // Porter21 U | T 20:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I believe that an inverse distance calculation is employed here -[distance unit]/5 is a greater quantity than [distance unit]/75, indicating a greater minimum "NPC detection" distance... just speculating.
I said above, but the stealth armors +5 field is incredibly powerful. With that, a total 100 sneak skill, and the silent running perk, I can melee most enemies from the front without being spotted. --Sotanaht 08:06, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
From my own testing the strength of the stealth field does matter, but very little. I ran several scenarios where I pick-pocketed a "heavy" item (combat armor) from an NPC in medium-light. In the Stealth Suit alone (5%) I had a success rate of roughly 2 in 10. With the Stealthboy (75%) I had a success rate of 4 in 10. With the suit AND stealthboy (80%) I also had a 4 in 10 rate. Also keep in mind that 100% sneak is incredibly powerful with the Suit and shouldn't be used as a benchmark. With 100% sneak and Stealth Armor I can beat a Super Mutant Master to death with my bare hands in broad daylight without moving beyond the Caution awareness level. That was done with only 31% unarmed.
I think any level of "Stealth Field" totally negates light being shown on your character, this way, it's only contact and damage will allow enemies to detect you. Before getting the CSA, I was easily able to sneak right into the faces of most enemies in subway tunnels, this is why I think it negates light. Thus the reason why a "5% Stealth Field" is just as effective as the Stealth Boy's "75% Stealth Field". Oh, and assuming Silent Running perk, which was present during all of my cited tests.

I had level 80 sneak (is now 92) and this armour on, I could melee units, leave them alive and still not be seen! You have not lived until you've stabbed a raider twice without being noticed! Oh, and the Talon Company Camp? All they could do was watch as one by one their men turned to ash! Hahaha! 124.182.93.173 04:10, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Sim Version?[]

Am I correct to assume that there is no high-HP simulation-only version of this armor?

There is. Base ID 1003a02. Ausir 04:19, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, excellent! Thanks!
Just to add here, a while ago I asked if someone could check the sim version of this armor, and Five Dog verified that the sim version of the armor doesn't seem to have a stealth field and only fortifies the sneak ability by 5 points. --Clean Up 23:44, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I spent about 2 or 3 hours attempting to reverse pickpocket it on the xbox version. It worked, but then I realised no stealth field. I flipped out. --InvaderSclurch 09:50, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, wtf! what the use of it now! I just use it for look b/c it looks kewl! But how did the chinese get the stealth field to work if it doesnt have 1?

Chances are, the stealth field assigned to NPC's is scripted in, as they are stealthed both while crouching and standing and it does not waver, so the suit would only be for aesthetic purposes for the player. The reward suit, of course, would have an all around stealth field and apply it to anyone who was wearing it. 216.215.203.205 04:06, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Haircut Glitch?[]

That glitch with the crouching and then asking your butler for a haircut happens to me even when I'm not wearing the armor or crouching.

No, the ghoul mask is eyewear.--Master of cheeZ 17:06, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Bugs that are not bugs[]

There are a few bugs listed that are not actually bugs. This one is the worst: "Even though you are crouched, unmoving and invisible, enemies (especially Super-Mutants) may still be drawn to your location (PC Version). They may stand directly in front of you, waiting for you to react."

This is NOT a bug. Enemies are drawn to your location because the stealth suit isn't perfect. Especially in daylight or under a bright lamp at night, NPCs can still sense your presence even if they can't pinpoint your exact location. This effect is amplified on higher difficulty levels. Effective Invincibility[]

I have tried this on the 360, and it works just fine - Combine the Stealth armor with a silenced weapon (preferably the Perforator / Infiltrator) for effective invincibility. Unless you physically bump into an enemy, you can fire on it indefinitely without the enemy ever spotting you or entering combat mode. You can even use this to sneak attack an enemy several times.

This can be achieved even more effectively using an unarmed weapon and exploiting the Hockey Mask glitch (to give an unlimited unarmed skill bonus). I personally like to use the Deathclaw Gauntlet, because it ignores damage resistance, and, more importantly, looks awesome (because if you can kill any enemy in 1 shot anyway, why does anything else matter, other than durability, I guess, though the Deathclaw Gauntlet is tied with the Fisto! for highest durability of an unarmed weapon, other than bare fists, of course). This is preferable to the using a silenced gun because the weapon degrades slower, does not use ammunition, and you can kill in 1 shot without running the risk of alerting them or any of their allies (though to be fair, if you are careful, this shouldn't happen). However, it is advisable to also keep a silenced gun (I prefer the Perforator) for times when you can not get within unarmed range.

I prefer using stealth while wielding my shiny old Samurai's Sword with this. Looks much more like a ninja, since shinobi are Japanese, not Chinese, but Jingwei's Shocksword looks fantastic with this suit. I also like using a glitched Sniper Rifle or Gauss from long range. They usually don't survive this. Axier 02:55, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

CSA + 2 Hockey Masks + Power Fist from O:A simulation via Gary 23 glitch + Silent Running makes for effective invincibility. 68.192.9.90 03:37, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Beneficial Glitch - Infinite Headwear

  • If worn with nothing else equipped, the Chinese Stealth Armor may sometimes allow you to stack different head gears (with no upper limit), such as multiple different power armor helmets, or other miscellaneous hats and headwraps. After equipping the armor, you will be able to add a head piece just as you normally would, but when a second helmet is selected, it will not remove the first one. This is extremely useful if your character has a low damage resistance, as you can actually put on enough power helmets to effectively make yourself close to invulnerable (73 damage resistance seems to be the cap). This is also a fantastic glitch because the beneficial properties of unique head wear such as Three Dog's head wrap can be stacked, vastly increasing your stats. This glitch does not always work; sometimes you will not even be able to equip a singular helmet with the Stealth Armor in the first place. (Tested on Xbox 360)
  • Full head armor (Helmets) that does not allow combining with sunglasses normally, will still be unequipped when using this glitch. For example, you may not use the Lucky shades at the same time with a Power helmet.
  • Trying to equip multiples of the same helmet, such as two hockey masks or two outcast power helmets, will allow you to add an infinite number of perks that helmet has (not DR) because the first helmet will stay equipped while the second never gets equipped. For example, two hockey masks, the first is equipped and I get +5 unarmed. The second, when attempting to equip, remains unequipped but adds to the perk, making it +10 unarmed. And so on until you're done trying to equip the second helmet. With this, I was able to have +2010 unarmed (hockey mask), +13 perception(any prewar hat), +130 big guns and explosives (raider blast master helmet), and +120 rad resistance (power helmet). Granted, the cap for these are 100, 85 rad resistance, and 10 for perception. However, even though unarmed says it caps at 100, continuing to add masks results in additional unarmed damage (I deal over 500 damage with a Deathclaw gauntlet). (tested on X360)
  • Also it appears that after doing this switching to any other armor does not unequip the helmets, so you can go back to your favourite armor afterwords (but seriously what effects would you get from other armor that is beneficial after you have maxed abilities and stats and non-poison resistance, except for the stealth field), it may be possible to get infinite AP by using the re-equip buildup by using 2 ledoux hockey masks (needs to be tested. Tested on PC to be NOT working. Seems Ledoux's masks doesn't work with infinite headgear trick. You can equip many but only the mask's DR will be active.) (Reporting that the Ledoux mask trick DOES work on PC, not sure what was wrong with other persons game)

How To - Customize Visible/Active Headwear (when using glitch/exploit)

  • One of the main problems with the above glitch is that for the most part, it's fairly random which piece of headgear is selected as the "top" layer; the only one that takes damage when fired upon/smashed. For instance, if you are wearing three power helmets for their Rad Resist. but you are also in possession of the nearly indestructible Winterized T-51b power helmet, chances are that you'll want the T-51b as your top layer, protecting the other helmets on your person. To specify which helmet you want as your top layer, follow these steps carefully. You'll need the Chinese Stealth Armor in your possession for this to work, of course.
    • 1. Equip the helmet you want as your primary Damage Resistance headgear (best if it has the highest DR rating and/or CND).
    • 2. Remove any and all other headgear (glasses, masks, etc). Body armor will not affect this process, so it can be left as is for now.
    • 3. Save your game.
    • 4. Reload your saved game. This will cause the engine to reload your currently worn armor and appropriate 3D models.
    • 5. Equip the Chinese Stealth Armor and apply any and all other helmets you desire. If your helmet of choice becomes unequipped, simply put it back on.
    • 6. Equip any other armor you are going to wear, unless you intend on wearing the Chinese Stealth Armor.
    • 7. Exit your PipBoy. Your character's image should be preserved according to what you were wearing at the time of your last save. This also means that whatever head armor you had selected at the time will be the only armor taking damage, even if you are wearing multiple items.
  • This also has the enjoyable effect of allowing you to combine multiple hats and helmets in an interesting combination of visual styles, such as the Raider arclight helmet and a Power armor helmet for an even further retro-futuristic "robotic man" look, ultimately personalizing your character to an extent not normally possible without the use of mods.
  • The only limitation to this glitch is that you cannot equip more than one of the same headgear.
  • You can obtain the non-stealth version of the armor if you reverse-pickpocket the visible "stealth" npcs in operation anchorage, I recommend using Paralyzing palms for this task. Get a spare winterized combat armor (kill quartermaster in US camp) and give it to the npc, then leave and wait 24hrs ish. Sadly its not possible to pickpocket the hidden ones, so you can only have one stealth suit.

move completeKingclyde 22:36, 16 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde

The same thing that you can do with 2 Hockey Masks can also be done with 2 Enclave Officer Hats, which allows you to essentially raise your Energy Weapons as high as you want, causing even a lowly Laser Pistol to 1 hit kill anything (I think, I haven't tested the damage yet, I'm currently stacking Enclave Officer Hats as we speak).

Only problem is, you can't equip both the Officers Hat and the Ghoul Mask, or in this case, the Officer Hat and a Hockey Mask/Ledoux's Hockey Mask. If you do, however, when you go to start rapid tapping A to stack benefits, any other headgear will systematically be removed. I was wearing 3 Pre-War hats, and Poplar's Hood, and one by one, everytime I pressed A, for 4 times, each headgear was removed.

Then, once all were removed, the Officer Hats no longer stacked. I had to exit my Pip-Boy, and simply re-equip the first hat, and start stacking again, effectively raising my Energy Weapons to around 2000.

T 03:43, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I've got my Energy Weapons boosted to +3745 (my Energy Weapons skill is already at 100), and yet, I can't seem to 1-hit kill anything with my Protectrons Gaze, or such.T 03:55, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I've tried both the Enclave Officer's Hat and the Raider Blastmaster Helmet, and neither seem to work. It appears to only work with the Hockey Mask. Or has anyone found something else that works?

Could that be because unarmed is the only killing skill that benefits from being over 100 as reflected in your pipboy? 80.47.180.84 16:38, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

(Xbox 360) I get this problem a lot, too. Like I can't equip the Lucky Shades With the Winterized T-51b Power Helmet. Not at first... But when I played around with what you could and couldn't put on, there seemed to be some kind of sequence of putting headgear on. It's weird! If you fiddle around with the order in which you put headgear on (trust me, it's frustrating) you can eventually wind up with wearing the Lucky Shades and the Winterized Helmet. I noticed that the type of condition your head gear is in has something to do with it, too. Anybody care to explain? It's kind of aggravating.--HeadphoneDisaster 02:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

What I seemed to figure out is all you really need to have is two of the same head gear same value same DR, pretty much same stats. Equip one of them then highlight the next one and keep trying to equip it it wont equip but you will get the permanent effects. The only problem I have with this is my guys head keeps disappearing. To fix it I just equip something else that seems to fix it. I have a PS3 The rad resistance with the power helmets works good cause walk through the water and i take no rad damage. I alternate my stacking by adding hockey mask a few times then power mask a few times then hockey mask again or something else.

Am I right in assuming that if Ledoux's Hockey Mask is the primary displayed headgear it'll protect all other headgears from damage and also never get damaged itself (being super cool as it is)?167.127.24.69 17:56, February 3, 2010 (UTC)Markus

Pitt Bug[]

So I dressed down in my Chinese Stealth Armor to keep a low load going into The Pitt so I could hold more coming out. Just found out the Chinese Stealth Armor disappears from the Footlocker after you win The Hole. Thus, bye-bye Stealth Suit. Shame... I liked that thing :P

Fun Bug[]

Just playing not ten minutes ago, sneaking through DC ruins in my CSA when I ran into a Mutant patrol. I mean, I literally ran into them. Turned a corner, my screen went yellow-ish from the mutant's leg and I stopped moving. The whole time my sneak status didn't change from [HIDDEN], but of course I didn't realize that and started unloading with a Combat Shotgun. I killed the first Mutant, injured the second and then noticed that my status still hadn't changed. Repeated attempts failed. I'm not sure if it was a one-shot thing, or a temporary AI screwup or backed up cache or what.

Either way, it was a few minutes of excitement. --UrbanSceptre 00:21, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I've done this with (and without, mind you) stealth armour, but with my status constantly at [CAUTION] and never changing. I've been told that this is fairly common, but stil, getting sneak attack crits in [CAUTION] IS PRETTY COOL ~(No Account)

I always thought that happened when only one person thinks you're there, but his friends don't, so you can sneak attack them. but i could be wrong.

Yes that is what I meant.Tehuberleetmaster 01:43, December 22, 2009 (UTC)

Took me a good 2 hours to do it on PS3 with a sneak skill of 100. Finally got it on my last attempt before 'seriously' giving up for the night/forever. Got it from the guy on the single red crate when you get ambushed. Firstly sniping all other three snipers in the area from beside the single red crate. One on the two red crates, one on each corner of the bunker wall. This can get rid of the [DETECTED] status after a while if the one guy left can't see you and you stay still. Also I made sure that I didn't get caught when reverse pickpocketing the target. Returned and pickpocketed him successfully on the second try. Saving at every step obv.

So my process was: 1: Sneak to far end of the single red crate, without triggering an ambush. 2: Snipe the other three snipers. 3: Position your cursor on the target. 4: Save. 5: Reverse pickpocket the combat armor without being caught. 6: Sneak away and head back to the HQ tent. 7: Come back to the far side of the red crate. 8: Save. 9: Pickpocket.

EDIT: I had to do this again and it seems that you can pickpocket when in [DETECTED] status so you may not even have to kill the other three first.

Art Design[]

Does it bear mentioning that the art design differs greatly from the rest of the game? I think it's a very interesting aesthetic choice to give chinese gear a more "real world" or, at least, "contemporary science fiction" look than the rest of the setting. It implies that only the USA is stuck in its Cold War era aesthetic which is sort of interesting.--NotGodot 08:59, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

It's not. One piece of equipment is hardly any indication, especially when you consider that the rest of the Chinese gear is very much Cold War. 15px-Scribe.jpg Tagaziel (call!) 09:04, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Basically all they did for the chinese outfit was take a preexisting Russian cold war BDU design and swap the flags, simple but does lend to the art direction pretty good. Check this Front of Russia out they got some rad outfits that of similar design, though they're russian and you actually have to look.Aryeonos 07:27, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

The suit also somewhat resembles the vampire-ninja costumes worn in the Blade II movie.

If you look at those orange stripes holding the wires to the costume, they're actually electrical tape, seriously high tech.Aryeonos 07:09, September 18, 2009 (UTC)

Use Paralyzing Palm.

Yes, it is quite unfitting, but think about the Chimera tanks, and all the rest of O:A's style. It's high-tech Pre Bomb (I wouldn't say Pre War)tech, so I'd just assume that the Chinese were more modern-ish rather than Cold War 50's-ish. -Arroyo citizen

Sneak bonus affect[]

How does this make you so impossible to see if it only grants +15 to sneak? HuangLee 22:18, October 18, 2009 (UTC)

If you have downloaded the Operation: Anchorage plug-in, and have completed it, there will be a chinese stealth armor inside the armory. When you equip it, it might seem like it only adds +15 sneak, but try going into sneak mode. It adds +5 stealth field.

maximum dr[]

you can stack infinite amount of power helmets onto it meaning that you can be pretty much invincible (maximum is about 75 dr)

Damage resistance doesn't stack, only item effects.Aryeonos 23:06, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Max DR is 85, and DR will stack if you switch to another set of armor after equipping helmets. HOWEVER, only some of them will give a DR boost. It seems that items take up certain slots, and items in the same slot cannot both add to your DR (ie, Rager battle helmet and talon combat helmet will not make 10 DR total) 68.192.9.90 19:43, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

Hei gui in modern Chinese slang[]

I am an American currently working in Beijing. I just want to point out that "Hei gui" is used as a derogatory name for blacks in China. I've had several of my African and African-American friends called this by drunken Chinese guys. One of them is a huge nerd, however, and found it very funny that one of the best Fallout 3 armors would be named this. 74.115.160.10 18:34, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Other editors have pointed this out as well. However, there is no reason to include it in the article. First of all, there is no reason to suspect that Bethesda intended the name of the armor to mean this derogatory term. Therefore, there is no reason to include potentially offensive material in the article.--Gothemasticator 20:06, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Possible real-life equivalent?[]

I read multiple articles about current day metamaterial research. One of the already existing stuff is a material with a negative refraction index - that is, it doesn't refract or reflect electromagnetic radiation. Instead, ER will continue onwards as if the object wasn't there at all. Right now it only works with radio waves between 4-7 GHz (according to Wikipedia, that's approximately between microwave owens and military-grade radar systems) but if it could be improved to effect the visible wavelength, it would be similar to the CSA, don't you think?--Amitakartok 22:51, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

To the point above yes that cool, but I think the CSA is based on active camoflage. that is basically tiny camers that project one image onto the opposite side of this object to make it appear as if it wern't there but the radar capability may came in useful when they get hand hald radar ^-^. Quite a lot of this supposed "fiction" stuff is based on very real and already existing tech. for instance that chimera vehicle is based on one of the russian MIL models. the Gauss cannon is based on the real life coil gun, plasma granades are actually banned under the geneva convention. Tesla cannons are the natural evolution of the gauss rifle when you realise that fixed i/o solenoids can be switched for fixed emectro-magnetic suspention field. force feilds are even real. you fisrtly take a heavy laser and then ionise the particulate in the field then use frequency varied magnetic field [usually electrically induced] and BEND the laser field with heavy ionization into a field. amazing how developed the human race really is and a damn shame when you realise that the only reason most of this tech isn't common every day shizzle.. is because governments make back handers and people are to cheap to shell out a bit more to save soldiers lives.... grim really.

It's not using cameras, it's a field that projects reflected lights to the other side. Read the wiki. Second, "peoople are too cheap to shell out a bit more to save soldiers lives"? Um, really? Most of the technology you write about is too goddamn expensive to mass produce and equip soldiers with. The military should never have more cash than any of the civilian branches - you know, those actually helping people every day? Third, as I said, if they were used, the singular cost of equipping a single soldier would be too high - every fatality would punch a massive hole through the military budget. So no, it's not cheapness, it's unwillingness to declare bankruptcy over a handful of casualties. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 07:57, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

wow a douche bag... coz there wasn't enough of them here already ....

QUOTE:

"The armor has active camoflage systems......"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_camouflage

that is what active camoflage is so yes IT DOES have tiny cameras. Secondly I'm English and if you'd have seem the MoDs ilitary budget you cry so YES they are cheap. and they get very much less than ANY civilian branch. btw active camoflage can be made veryt cheaply by use of OLEDs and very light by use of nanao weave fibres. which combined cost less than £3000 a year which is actually suprisingly similar to currecnt budgets. so please next time you want to shout down some one who merely trying to say how much the like this game and the way it ties to reality please just go for a long walk off a short peir instead kk ty BB. .,|,,

Guess I had you down wrong. I didn't mean to coe off so aggressive. Forgive my poor spelling too, I have dislexic and when i don't spend very long time typing it gets all muddled.

It's cool, I've been insulted by professionals and you're, well, an amateur. Not that it's a bad thing - it's a very good thing, it means you still function properly in society :) Also, I'm dyslexic too, except I have a problem with readable writing (it's one of the forms dyslexia can manifest in). Major Pwnage[]

Pair the Chinese Stealth Suit with the Perforator and Jingwei's Shock Sword. Awsome combination.

Wow! You've got to try this!!!! Unlimited Stealth!!![]

Ok, I need to tell everyone about what I found, Because this is Way to @#$%$^% Cool!

After I finished the Operation Anchorage Quest I was Very pleased to see that I was awarded Some nice Goodies. I then left and was re-united with my Companion. I was Just Having some fun Putting the various new Armors on him( I had Charon the Liberated Ghoul servant from Underworld). Then Suddenly I figured out a SICK! Glitch, He can where the Chinese Stealth Suite, and ANY ARMOR!! And Could stay Stealth (while "Crouched" of course). Then I can go back into his Equipment and Take it back and equip it for my self. I couldn't believe it at first but Yeah! We were both Stealth and all Perks with it.

Here are the steps which make the process of the Transformation. 1. Equip your Companion with "Only" The Chinese stealth armor then exit. 2. Go back to their equip and give them whatever Apparel you would like them to wear.(*note Some Companions can only wear certain things? See their Stats for more info*) Then exit again. 3. Go back in to their Equip and Take it back. Exit for the final time and that's it! You can Equip it yourself, and now both of you are Stealth. No more Stealth Boys needed!! I now sell them to cover Repair costs as the Armor does still become Damaged in Combat. Also recon armor repairs it as well.

Here are Some Results from further tests.

Seeing, that you can only have one permanent Companion at a time so I found that this technique works on the Temporary Companions as well! So if you choose to not bring them to their destinations right away! And use "Full Advantage" of them and their Equipment Skills. You could have a nice sized Fighting Squad that is Capable of bring some Serious Business to the Wasteland! And all Stealth! *(Remember they don't have a very high HP though?)*.

  • Note* Obviously If you have Dog meat with you, he can't be Stealth, the same as if you have any other characters, companions, etc. That don't let you Equip them with stuff or they simple can't wear Apparel.

But I have taken a Major Tecticle Advantage of this.

Here is an example of what you can do: Equip One Permanent, and Two Temps with Stealth, Have Dog meat Too! Now you are a four persons Stealth Team, with escort.

In a confrontation allow Dogmeat to start the fight, seeing, that the four of you are not visible to your enemy yet. They(Raiders,Slavers,Enclave, Mutants, etc.) only see your dog and attack him only. (Sometimes depending on the Enemy's A.I. they start laughing and switch to melee weapons to beat him up. Ha Ha Jokes on them!)

NOW!!!! Spring your trap!! Close your distance fast! If you are successful and have the Critical Perk. You and your Death Squad have your self a Turkey Shoot, Because your Enemy is focused on your Dog.

Glitches: Some times when you fast travel or simply go through one door to another and the game loads. On the other side Sometime the Characters Loose their Stealth. You just simply repeat all your Transformations again.

Well I hope this Info was helpful in your Gaming Experience. Have Fun!!96.50.131.165 19:42, August 12, 2010 (UTC)

Someone Grammar Hammer this please.. and I'm still unsure what this "glitch" does.--68.100.64.165 06:29, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Hei Gui Translation?[]

I dont know why but I wanted to put Hei Gui(黑鬼) in a Translation so I used google translate and i put chinese and what came up was astonihing? Try it yourselfs and see if its correct cause im pretty sure it doesnt mean that?

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh my god that's fricken hilarious!!! That's what I got everytime I looked it up in the Translators but Wikepedia says it means ghost. Not the most trustworthy source but it makes more sense given what the armor does.

66.81.28.154 01:09, February 8, 2011 (UTC)BigBro

黑鬼 does translate to what Google Translates to. I understand its actual Chinese meaning and it does translate to a derogatory term for African-American, which is exactly what Google Translates provides. This is a really bad foreign language "play on words".

First word means Black, second word means Ghost. Put together it is a racist slang. Either someone did this on purpose as a cruel joke or some non-Chinese literate idiot tried to be clever. 173.248.212.131 07:19, February 20, 2011 (UTC)

I speak Chinese and can confirm that 黑鬼 is indeed a strong ethnic slur against black people. Most Chinese people are as uncomfortable saying 黑鬼 as we are with kuffar or n-r. I have never encountered the word used for anything else. Judging by the poor spoken Chinese in this addon, I think they just looked up 'black' and 'ghost' in a dictionary.

If you really spoke "Chinese", you would know that "Chinese" isn't a language. Mandarin and Cantonese are, however. Kastera (talk) 06:54, July 15, 2011 (UTC)

@Kasteral - Chinese is a language, there is no practical difference between formal written Cantonese or Mandarin, there is only a difference when speaking. I wrote "I spoke Chinese" as writting "I can write Chinese" is awkward in this context.

Hmm, I found a website that claims that "hei gui" means "black devil"...close enough to "black ghost" I suppose, but then again, are we certain it's racist (or supposed to be racist?), I mean, the armor's black, and it makes the wearer invisible, so the whole slang thing might just be a coincidence...--92.114.148.36 13:33, March 31, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, "Hei Gui"(黑鬼) is a very offensive slur against Black people in colloquial Chinese, I'm a Chinese and I'm positive sure about it. Although it also "literally" can be translated as "Black(Hei黑)Ghost(Gui鬼)" or "Black(Hei黑) Devil(Gui鬼), but it's not the actual meaning in usual conversation and Chinese people seldom use it like this.--36.224.199.97 18:13, June 20, 2015 (UTC)

In the official Traditional Chinese localization it's retconned into 海龟 (Hai Gui), sea turtle, in some terminal description of the Stealth Boy. That should settle it.--Teslashark (talk) 08:27, November 30, 2015 (UTC)

Helmet Missing?[]

Has anyone else gotten a glitch where the helmet disappears from the armor, and all you see is the outline of the player's face in black (as if wearing a black version of the ski mask the soldiers wore in OpAnchorage)? It happened the first time I put it on, and while at first I was disappointed (because I thought it meant the wearable version didn't have the gold face shield), I then realized that I thought it looked cooler that way. However, I haven't been able to reproduce this graphical glitch since. I should note that I have the graphics turned pretty far down, so who knows how that interacts with things like that?

I recently finished this add on and I'm having the same problem. I have multiple ways of solving stuff like this so if I ever figure it out ill let you know.

Fallout: New Vegas Stealth Armor?[]

Isn't the Chinese Stealth Armor in Fallout: New Vegas also? The Official Guide Book states that it is located in Hoover Dam, yet I have not seen it ever be used.--199.168.80.9 18:49, April 14, 2013 (UTC)

I am unable to edit, but in Fallout 4, on a terminal in the sewers that you visit with Deacon (in a room close to the vault that only Deacon can open. There is also two doors that can be opened by a separate terminal in the corner of the room) the third transcript makes reference to the Chinese Stealth Armor, referring to it specifically as it's official name, the Hei Gui armor. I can't remember the location's name, but it's where you retrieve the one Synth prototype thing.

Headless Glitch[]

I duplicated the headless glitch on PC by having two hockey masks and then trying to equip these hockey masks one after another. I'm not sure how to add this to the article. 202.169.228.44 14:29, September 14, 2016 (UTC)
