Where are good places to get caps on Fallout 3? --Chairman Cheng 00:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Seriously? In crates and corpses. Store safes and quests. Selling crap. Easy. 18.104.22.168 00:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Logistics of Caps? Edit
Aren't caps a really bad idea in the long run for currency? Logistically speaking, it would be impossible to carry or even find even 10,000 caps in a world like Fallout's. As life went on, more and more things would get broken, and caps will decrease. Imagine if Tenpenny decided to sell his tower (providing he wasn't killed, of course). That would cost thousands or millions of caps, and then what would he be paid in? --Pratstercs 08:02, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Guns, ammo, technology, brahmen, slaves, and anything else of value. In other words, bartering (like the skill of the same name); not all purchases in the game are made strictly with caps, something that is expirienced while playing (i.e. here's a fully repaired Plasma Rifle, gimme a bunch of ammo and stimpacks please). As far as "Aren't caps a really bad idea in the long run for currency?" ....I don't think people are really thinking about "the long run" in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland; if in ten years the bottlecaps turn out to be a bad idea for currency, we'll just let whoever's still alive at that time worry about it, cause we got bigger problems. As far as carrying 10,000 caps, there seems to be some mysterious technology in fallout that lets you carry about two hundred pounds of equipment without any visible bags or containers; bottle caps are logistically easy after you've figured out how to carry two sets of power armor, two missile launchers, a dozen small arms, and thousands of rounds of ammunition (perhaps an invisible Bag of Holding is a common posession in the fallout world?). 22.214.171.124 03:36, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
Vault Currency Edit
What currency does Vault 101 use? Nobody has any bottle caps, so I don't think that's it. Is it pre-war currency? About ten of them are found in desks when you're nineteen in Fallout Wiki. 126.96.36.199 20:07, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
i dont think they use "money" at all since it is shelter and they are trying to survive, not be the next ed Mechman.--That70sdude 23:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I believe it's something called "food credits" or "work credits". Basically, you do your job, you get paid in credits so you can get extra food or amenities. PlasmaFox 17:45, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
I think "work credits" were mentioned in a computer in Vault 92. -- Turhake
If you remember the talk with butch in vault 101. something about his mom soaking up all the drink rations or something. so i reckon everything is rationed out to everyone. Nico-legend 10:54, August 31, 2010 (UTC)
Good ways to make caps in Fallout 3Edit
Fast travel to Rivet City, then head to the Jefferson Memorial. There should be a great amount of the Enclave there. Kill all of them, then search them and take their armor and weapons. Once you become overencumbered, repair everything you have until you cannot repair anymore. Then keep scavenging the amour and weapons. Once you have everything there, go back to Rivet City. Sell all the things you picked up. You should make about 2,000 or more caps. Every few in-game days, more Enclave will appear, and you can repeat things as much as you want. Also if you have a follower such as Fawkes or Charon, they can also carry things, so you can give stuff to them, and just take it back when ready to sell.
Basically the same as above except infront of Yao Guai tunnels after the waters of life quest there should be around 6 Enclave and if your lucky a BoSO squad will be close and help with the Enclave after you can betray and loot them and the Enclave.
You could also just... play the game normally... they pretty much throw caps and gear into your lap at every turn. Heck, it's hard not to make caps! 188.8.131.52 03:36, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
The "Syndey's 10mm Ultra SMG" glitch is a godly way to get caps, although you have to wait for shops to restock on caps.
I have noticed that people in Fallout 3 are generally poor. I know how to get loaded, relitivly fast. (Step 1) repair the leaks in Megaton (Step before 1) don't blow up Megaton (Step 2) ask Walter if you can help, and agree. bring him all the scrap metal you find (Step 3) Get the Lawbringer and/or the Contrack killer Perk(s) when possible (Step 4) pick up any and all cigaurettes/packs/cartons when possible and sell anywhere. they're worth a ton (Step 5) Complete Riely's Rangers. ask her if you can help any more. wander aimlessly with the geomapper thingy (Step 6)Don't start Take it Back. Give all BOS Holoags to scribe Jameson (Step 7)Download the Pitt and Broken Steel (Step 8) whoever you side with give teddy bears to either Midora? or the mom (Step 9) once you complete Broken steel, talk with Srcibe Rothchild and Paladin Tristin. ask if you can help (Step 10) kill every Super Mutant and check for blood samples to turn in to Paladin Tristin. collect cameras and sencer mods to turn in to Scribe Rothchild. (Step 11) turn in all pre-war books to scribe Yearling. (Step a while ago) pre-war money is worth about ten caps a pop(Desperate/lame step) DESTROY ALL LIFE
Cap Glitching Moved from article --L3art 23:23, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
There is a easily done cap glitch that can provide you a large amount of caps in a fairly short amount of time. The steps are shown below: 1. Go to a trader (ex: Moira Brown of Megaton). 2. Check in their invintory and find something you and the trader both own. 3. Make sure the item you use is NOT at Maximum Condition. 4. Buy the TRADERS item that you also own. 5. Sell back the TRADERS item. 6. There now should be two of the items NOT STACKED. 7. Buy one of the items again. 8. Sell it back again. 9. Then, buy it back. 10. The Desired item should be at max condition. 11. Repeat steps 4-9 until trader has 0 or next to no caps.
To be able to repeat this glitch, you must either sleep or wait for 3-4 days, for enough caps to return automatically to the Trader.
Max Caps? Edit
Is there a limit to how many caps you can have? I've got 8199 right now, and it won't go any higher. It also seems a bit buggy shopping when I have 8199 caps. When buying something sometimes it'll act like I have more than that and not lower my cap count, and sometimes it will lower my cap count (and it doesn't seem to matter if I actually should have more than caps that, for example I sold a gun worth ~100 caps when already at 8199, and then tried to buy 1 10mm bullet and it took caps). It is just a glitch but I have around 30000 Caps and It hasn't stopped at a max yet The max could possibly (if there is a max) around 100000 Caps.
well if there is a maximum its more than 60,000, coz thats what i have now. 184.108.40.206 15:00, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
make that more than 70,000. 220.127.116.11 13:07, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
make that more that 86,000. and lol to the post below me.
I collect caps in real life so that when the inevitable nuclear war happens ill be set. :D Course' I probably wont live long enough to use em... --CraZeDP3NgUiN 16:55, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Me too... wierd isn't it and alot of effort, also it doesn't stop at 100,000 i have 112, 298 caps right now and am constantly earning more... :]
I think it will probably be in the billions, i have 161,000 so far... God bless the Sydneys Ultra SMG glitch ;) 18.104.22.168 16:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)MikeRaffyTaffy22.214.171.124 16:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
It would be nice if there was something that actually cost several thousand caps in the game. After a point, you just have so much extra gear, chems, and ammunition... 126.96.36.199 03:36, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
I wish this wasn't a question we had to ask. This game would be a little more challenging if I couldn't spend the first 5 hours of the game getting more caps than I can reasonably spend in the rest of my gameplay! Whippb 03:31, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
If you want it to be more challenging, go to the middle of the DC ruins, dump all your weapons, apparel, meds, and caps in some random container, and then make your way back to megaton without using fast travel, V.A.T.S., or picking up any gear, on very hard difficulty. Caveman style. 188.8.131.52 03:36, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
None I think it just keeps going on forever. Jbsnicket 23:53, May 3, 2010 (UTC) In FNV, a fully reparired T-45d will cost about 4000 caps, rather than 739 caps on FO3. So, I have a lot more money on FNV rather than FO3, 120,000+ vs 200,000+. (NCR dollars doesnt count, I've a bunch of them) --James Jr 12:12, February 24, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think there's a limit. I used the infinite money glitch (Vikki & Vance Casino) and when you get past 1.000.000 caps, on your pip-boy appears: Caps 1000000+ I now have I guess something over 1.600.000 caps
Had a thought, in New Vegas will the currency still be Bottle Caps? Or due to all the casinos will it be, as many have already probably thought of, Poker Chips? It just seems it would make a lot more sense. 184.108.40.206 17:15, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
Thee currencies (yep, that's plural) are NCR Dollars, Caesar's Legion coins (I call 'em denari), and last, but not least CAPS!!! ZuZu 01:25, June 25, 2010 (UTC)
- and casino chips too of course. Snooldex 09:33, January 30, 2011 (UTC)
All hail the mighty caps!!220.127.116.11 13:57, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
It's very simple to get caps rather fast and legitimately in FNV. Every person you kill take their chems and weapons (If worth value) and search house you come across for things of value.
I deleted the image added earlier as it wasn't an in game rendering nor was it official.
Bottle caps Edit
I think that caps are cool becauase they are taken from a time in USA history from the 50's when coke caps were like Nuka caps so it makes sense because the games are retro-future 2077 with a 50's theme i like Nuka. NukaCaps (talk) 16:45, March 21, 2013 (UTC)NukaCaps
