Is it an assault rifle?
There obviously will be an Assault Rifle, or several in FO4, but this weapon appears to either be a sawed off rifle. automatic rifle like seen in dead money, or a shotgun.

- Unless it's a pump-forward, pump like the Neostead, it's not a pump shotgun. We've seen assault rifles with no stocks in the past (Infiltrator (weapon)), additionally, there appears to be a gas tube, making it even more likely that it's an assault rifle rather than a shotgun. I say it is either a newer version of the Chinese Assault rifle ,OR it is a new assault rifle, which from the best of my judgement looks to be based on the Galil CQB/Ace 21 --67.185.202.129 13:06, June 13, 2015 (UTC)
It appears that there are a number of assault rifles in the game. there's at least two. The model seen here which looks to be akin to a BAR, like the Automatic Rifle from FONV, and another weapon with a side loading magazine.

there is still another "rifle" in this game i refer to it as a "rifle" because in the trailer the "Assault rifle" from diamond city is seen in the trailer being used to kill a raider scum but it is also seen converted into a high caliber semi-automatic rifle with a mounted scope, implying that there may be a way to rechamber your weapons caliber at the expense of recoil and rate of fire.--Corporal grif (talk) 15:11, June 16, 2015 (UTC)

I think the cowling and tube around the barrel is supposed to mean its a water-cooled gun; if you look for pictures of WWI machine guns, several of them cooled the barrel in this fashion. Though that does suggest that the picture is actually of a heavy weapon and not an assault rifle since, obviously, cooling a gun with a tank of water tends to make it impractically heavy to just carry around.
