Gannondorf

He seems like hes a reference to Gannondorf (Often referred in shorthand as Gannon) also his first name 'Arcade' could be a reference to the fact that Gannondorf is from a video game

Observer Eyebot (98.247.10.62 02:14, August 23, 2010 (UTC))

Or his name could just be Arcade Gannon. Nitty Tok. 02:16, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

It's spelled "Ganondorf." I agree with the above poster, though. Too bad, if his first name was Jonny, Billy, or Bud, he'd be a reference to an awesome Western novel(/movie) named Warlock. CaTigeReptile 23:04, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

From the looks of it the reference is in name alone, I mean He doesn't seem to want to rule the world, or seek power of any kind, and since when does gannondorf have blonde hair. but until we hear some of his dialogue or see some of his actions we can't be sure.

possibly homosexual?

He's gay I've flirted with him, trust me, I know.AryeonosWhat!?

Definitely gay - He makes a comment after telling his life story about how it's amazing "some guy hasn't picked up this eligible bachelor." -Justbob

he may not want to control the world, but he does want to restart the enclave, which is close enough and yea, i also got the feeling he was looking for a man 69.140.35.147 02:25, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Join me Courier and I will make your face the greatest in the Mojave. Or else you will die.

I figured the "Arcade" part of his name was an allusion to Arcadia, the mythological Utopian realm. He seems to want to make the world better, and the idea of Arcadia is from Classic mythology, so that fits in with his character as well. Icecrystal2k 10:25, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Quotes Section

Notable quotes should be collected here, then an official quotes section should be made on the article from this.

  • "That's a lot of energy weapons. Brings back some interesting memories." when entering the silver rush.
  • "I can help you out, but you can't do anything stu-- ... I mean, you can't... help bad people." When being recruited by a character with a very low INT stat.
  • "Caveat Samaritanus."
  • "Big... flying machines, right? Crazy helicopters. So weird." Being evasive at the crashed vertibird.
  • "The Strip's not a bad place if you love terrible things and people."
  • "I'm hardly a whirlwind of death when left to my own devices, but all right." When set to Passive in combat.
  • "Don't mind me. I'm just voicing my thoughts so they don't burrow out of my skull in a fit of abject despondency." About his boredom and fruitless research in Freeside.

Taken from his brief conversations with the player after each member of the Remnants are gathered:

  • "There have been some good men along the way, but lovers make poor confidants."
  • "Maybe we can't all change the world. Maybe it's enough just to do good for the short time that we're here."

Grissom

Anyone else think he looks like Gil Grissom from CSI?

similar hair style (but not color) but hes missing the awesome beard 69.140.35.147 02:27, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Essential?

Can someone tell me if this guy's essential or not, on the companion page it says all permenant companions are essential but on his page it says he's not essential.--Roflguy227 03:34, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

I can't figure out how to get the "For Auld Lang Syne" quest started. Help?!

The main part of the quest is triggered short before the ending in Hoover Dam. Kind of in the moment, when the heavy ncr troopers arrive in power armor and everyone prepares for the final battle.--Mr.Lexx(talk) 14:33, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

-The quest started for me before I even completed wild card: side bets and change in management, so it definitely starts much earlier than Hoover Dam battle.

Won't Join As Companion?

So, I passed the speech check, but he still won't follow me. I already have Cass as a companion, and he says something like two's company, three's a small army after I pass the speech check. Does this mean he won't follow me unless I don't have any other companions?

You can only have one humanoid and one non humanoid companion at once.--Roflguy227 14:29, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
Ahhh ok that makes sense. Thanks for the help! --DJ Idol 05:38, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
I have a bug where if I talk to him with a human companion he says I have too many companions already (which is expected behaviour) but if I fire my current companion and then talk to him again, the dialogue option to hire him is not present. No matter what I do, I can't ask him to come with me as long as there is not another person in my party, making him unhireable. --94.171.77.82 11:47, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Try getting rid of any non humanoid companion you have as well. In my game whenever I have ED-E or Rex in my party, the option to ask him to rejoin me doesn't even pop up. 71.105.140.83 13:48, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

That's because he has unique interactions depending on your non-humanoid companion; they disappear after several uses then disappear. You can overcome this by dismissing the latter, inviting the former then re-recruiting the latter. -- 2:02, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

I lost him...

I don't really know what happened. One minute, he was following me into Camp McCarran. The next minute, I notice he isn't behind me. I assume he'll turn up like he did the last time it happened. It's been three weeks game time since then, and nothing. The game treats me as if Arcade is still following me, such as the ghoul cowboy saying hello or the Caesar's Legion wondering how a Follower is outside of Freeside.

Except he isn't really there. Help?

Press the tilde to bring up the console.

prid <ref_id> //type this line, hit Enter

moveto player //then type this line and hit Enter. This command will move an NPC to you.

  • For Arcade, whose reference ID is 0010d8eb, it would look like this:

prid <0010d8eb>

moveto player

Icecrystal2k 04:33, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

That's not really viable, seeing as how I don't have the PC. Thanks though.

  • Sorry. :(

This happened to me when leaving vault 22. I fast traveled back to vault 22 and waited a day and he was back. Maybe travel to near where you lost him and waiting a few days will help.

  • Waiting a day seemed to work for me on the PS3, i lost him at Camp McCarren and Just waited a day at the El Ray

loop after his side quest

after his quest he ran put on his Tesla armor and talked to me but now he keeps looping in the remnants meeting area he just spans walks into the holomap thing the disappears and repeats

Weapons?

What weapons can he use? He come with a plasma defender which is pretty good, but I was hoping to give him a plasma rifle or caster or tesla cannon or something. I gave him the Q-35, but he didn't equip it.

  • I finally got him to use a tri-beam laser, which he is ok with. No luck with any other weapon, although I haven't tried the multiplas rifle or the plasma caster.

Have you been giving him any ammo? I gave him the YCS/186 but he wont equip it without MF cells. --Carthiah 22:51, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

There_Stands_the_Grass/Thomas_Hildren

I'm not sure if this counts towards getting his quest or not, however, after completing There Stands the Grass Arcade talked to me about Thomas Hildern and reasons for doing research/science. It's possible that this also was triggered when I while handing in the quest, talked to Thomas Hildern about his past at Followers of the Apocalypse and how he played along with their beliefs, to be able to be involved in research, and about his ambitions of possibly heading up OSI.

Van Buren Info

Should be deleted, at least the parts about him serving as an Infantryman in the Midwest. F:NV disproves this. Sorry Black Isle Fans 96.237.185.39 16:52, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

No Longer Companion After Side Quest?

Upon completion of For Auld Lang Syne, even if you convince him not to join the Remnants, he still can't keep playing as a companion to the courier? Or do you need to wait for him to return to Freeside in order to get him to join you again?

Orientation

Just to work out what the stance is on the main page...

Obviously he never gives us his number on the Kinsey scale (would make things so simple, amirite), but I would argue that Arcade is predominantly homosexual, not bisexual, as:

  • He can be recruited with the aid of the Confirmed Bachelor perk, but not the Black Widow perk.
  • He does not mention having any female lovers, but mentions having had several male ones. "There have been good men along the way, but lovers make poor confidants."
  • He jokes about wanting a man to sweep him off his feet, but he also joked about being affiliated with a fascist paramilitary organization. ;)
After having him as a companion from start to finish, I definitely agree that he's gay. I'm actually curious as to why the article doesn't mention this about him, since he tends to make it blatantly obvious as you've covered. I don't think he was so much joking about wanting a male lover he could trust, either, since that's what he seems to be looking for in the player, if the player is a male character.
And his father DID work for the Enclave. Gannon was well known amongst the last remnants of the Enclave and raised by some of them as guardians, he notes occasionally that he's none too proud of some of the things the Enclave did. So 'affiliated with a fascist paramilitary organisation' would actually fit that to a tee. (77.107.172.208 12:59, November 5, 2010 (UTC))
Yep! Icecrystal2k 19:48, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

It's already mentioned in the article, I see no reason for a separate note specifically pointing out that he's gay. So what? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 13:36, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

This was more in response to how references to his orientation kept getting changed or deleted in the body of the article! This was several days ago, it seems to have coalesced now. Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that we include a separate section in the article itself. Just notes for the talk page. :) Icecrystal2k 19:48, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, sorry for my attitude then. I have a bad habit of assuming bad intentions. How do you like the rewrite? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 23:19, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
I like it! Icecrystal2k 21:23, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Why is his being GAY on the main page in all-caps? Is it some sort of warning? If we're going to label his homosexuality in all caps, can we use the word FABULOUS instead?

Oooooo kay... well, if he's fabulous, and you're talking/complaining about it, then WHY in the name of God, Allah, and Buddha would YOU have the Confirmed Cachelor Perk??? that means YOU are FABULOUS too. No, seriously, what's the problem if he's gay? is his life/ass, you know...

Moreover, all mention of his orientation has once again been stricken from the main page. Despite it being tastefully written a few times, do we have tweens editing the articles, here? I mean, honestly, homophobia much Fallout Wiki? Homophobia much? It's as though if the article is edited to remove this fact about him, the homophobes can pretend that this side of his personality (as one of the more important characters in the game, and one of a number of gay characters in the game) doesn't exist.
I hear the flowing fountains of ignorance are bountiful in blisstopia at this time of year. :/ I suppose it just goes to show that a game like New Vegas is too high-brow in most of its elements (except the obviously puerile ones) for most gamers, and most gamers would rather stick their heads in the sands and pretend that it's just a gamer fer der gamin' idjits, like most other games.
This, fellow gamers, this is why we can't have nice things. (77.107.172.208 19:28, November 9, 2010 (UTC))
