Personality Profile

I was checking on here to see if I missed anything regarding Gannon's quest (btw, the name still looks like a Zelda reference to me) and noticed that one of the notes on his personality runs completely contrary to things that he's stated in the game on a couple occasions re:

  • He may appreciate what individual people go through, but firmly believes that it's more important to affect large-scale societal change than to fix problems little by little.

His dialogue in regards to Hildern is a total contradiction on its own, saying nothing of other indicators. I'll probably edit this later myself, but I wanted to put a heads-up in here before completely overhauling it, in case I actually missed something majorly huge (which i'm pretty sure i didn't)

Gannondorf

He seems like hes a reference to Gannondorf (Often referred in shorthand as Gannon) also his first name 'Arcade' could be a reference to the fact that Gannondorf is from a video game

Observer Eyebot (98.247.10.62 02:14, August 23, 2010 (UTC))

Or his name could just be Arcade Gannon. Nitty Tok. 02:16, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

It's spelled "Ganondorf." I agree with the above poster, though. Too bad, if his first name was Jonny, Billy, or Bud, he'd be a reference to an awesome Western novel(/movie) named Warlock. CaTigeReptile 23:04, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

From the looks of it the reference is in name alone, I mean He doesn't seem to want to rule the world, or seek power of any kind, and since when does gannondorf have blonde hair. but until we hear some of his dialogue or see some of his actions we can't be sure.

possibly homosexual?

He's gay I've flirted with him, trust me, I know.AryeonosWhat!?

Definitely gay - He makes a comment after telling his life story about how it's amazing "some guy hasn't picked up this eligible bachelor." -Justbob

he may not want to control the world, but he does want to restart the enclave, which is close enough and yea, i also got the feeling he was looking for a man 69.140.35.147 02:25, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Join me Courier and I will make your face the greatest in the Mojave. Or else you will die.

I figured the "Arcade" part of his name was an allusion to Arcadia, the mythological Utopian realm. He seems to want to make the world better, and the idea of Arcadia is from Classic mythology, so that fits in with his character as well. Icecrystal2k 10:25, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Stop trying to make him into a Zelda reference. Gannon as a name has been around for a long time. It's not even spelled the same way.DarthDaedric

He very well could be a reference to Gannon because games like this probably would not exist if it wasn't form the Ocarina of Time, and the Zelda Gannon is way more known in, my opinion, than they guy from the novel/movie warlock, i never even hear of that movie.

Quotes Section

Notable quotes should be collected here, then an official quotes section should be made on the article from this.

  • "That's a lot of energy weapons. Brings back some interesting memories." when entering the silver rush.
  • "I can help you out, but you can't do anything stu-- ... I mean, you can't... help bad people." When being recruited by a character with a very low INT stat.
  • "Caveat Samaritanus."
  • "Big... flying machines, right? Crazy helicopters. So weird." Being evasive at the crashed vertibird.
  • "The Strip's not a bad place if you love terrible things and people."
  • "I'm hardly a whirlwind of death when left to my own devices, but all right." When set to Passive in combat.
  • "Don't mind me. I'm just voicing my thoughts so they don't burrow out of my skull in a fit of abject despondency." About his boredom and fruitless research in Freeside.

Taken from his brief conversations with the player after each member of the Remnants are gathered:

  • "There have been some good men along the way, but lovers make poor confidants."
  • "Maybe we can't all change the world. Maybe it's enough just to do good for the short time that we're here."
  • If critically low on health, he will remark on how he knew he should've stayed with the NCR. When regaining consciousness, he'll groggily ask if it's Thursday.Ava Elzbieta 07:42, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone else think he looks like Gil Grissom from CSI?

Essential?

Can someone tell me if this guy's essential or not, on the companion page it says all permenant companions are essential but on his page it says he's not essential.--Roflguy227 03:34, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

I can't figure out how to get the "For Auld Lang Syne" quest started. Help?!

The main part of the quest is triggered short before the ending in Hoover Dam. Kind of in the moment, when the heavy ncr troopers arrive in power armor and everyone prepares for the final battle.--Mr.Lexx(talk) 14:33, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

-The quest started for me before I even completed wild card: side bets and change in management, so it definitely starts much earlier than Hoover Dam battle. Yeah you could be right

Won't Join As Companion?

So, I passed the speech check, but he still won't follow me. I already have Cass as a companion, and he says something like two's company, three's a small army after I pass the speech check. Does this mean he won't follow me unless I don't have any other companions?

You can only have one humanoid and one non humanoid companion at once.--Roflguy227 14:29, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
Ahhh ok that makes sense. Thanks for the help! --DJ Idol 05:38, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
I have a bug where if I talk to him with a human companion he says I have too many companions already (which is expected behaviour) but if I fire my current companion and then talk to him again, the dialogue option to hire him is not present. No matter what I do, I can't ask him to come with me as long as there is not another person in my party, making him unhireable. --Flower of Pock-Lips 11:47, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Try getting rid of any non humanoid companion you have as well. In my game whenever I have ED-E or Rex in my party, the option to ask him to rejoin me doesn't even pop up. 71.105.140.83 13:48, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

That's because he has unique interactions depending on your non-humanoid companion; they disappear after several uses then disappear. You can overcome this by dismissing the latter, inviting the former then re-recruiting the latter. -- 2:02, October 29, 2010 (UTC)

One day, I decided to travel without him and told him to go back to the Luck 38 and he did. I wanted to do his side quest so i triend to take him on my travels again, so I told Raul, my current humanoid companion, to go to the Lucky 38. But when I talk to Gannon, it doesn't have the dialouge option of him traveling with me. I checked the others and they can travel along. What happened?

I don't have any companions, and when I ask him to join me, the game still says I can only have one follower at a time, even though I don't have any. is this a bug?

To put the conclusion to this problem in simple terms, you can only have one non-human companion and one human companion (including Lily) at the same time. Also if the option to have a companion travel with you is bugged or gone, try getting the opposite to come, then ask. Say when asking Arcade to travel with you and he talks to you like you have a companion already but you really don't then just go and get a non-human companion like ED or Rex, then talk to him. This should activate a different text with Arcade thus erasing the bug and making him accompany you. I also found the solution to the problem if the companion text is missing all together. It doesn't always work but try traveling with all other companions and sending them to their original locations in dismissal (not back to the Lucky 38 suite) then recruit them all back. Sometimes you only have to dismiss the corresponding race of companions; like if Lily doesn't have the companion text option than dismiss all humanoid companions and recruit them. Another sometimes easier way of fixing this bug is to unlock a new text for that companion (something in the game that has to do with them, or even a main quest in the game); this should then refresh the text of the companion and renew the option. Hope this helps.

I lost him...

I don't really know what happened. One minute, he was following me into Camp McCarran. The next minute, I notice he isn't behind me. I assume he'll turn up like he did the last time it happened. It's been three weeks game time since then, and nothing. The game treats me as if Arcade is still following me, such as the ghoul cowboy saying hello or the Caesar's Legion wondering how a Follower is outside of Freeside.

Except he isn't really there. Help?

simple. go to vault 22. build up repair to 60 i think. use elevator. he will be with you.

Press the tilde to bring up the console.

prid <ref_id> //type this line, hit Enter

moveto player //then type this line and hit Enter. This command will move an NPC to you.

  • For Arcade, whose reference ID is 0010d8eb, it would look like this:

prid <0010d8eb>

moveto player

Icecrystal2k 04:33, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

That's not really viable, seeing as how I don't have the PC. Thanks though.

  • Sorry. :(

This happened to me when leaving vault 22. I fast traveled back to vault 22 and waited a day and he was back. Maybe travel to near where you lost him and waiting a few days will help.

  • Waiting a day seemed to work for me on the PS3, i lost him at Camp McCarren and Just waited a day at the El Ray

This happened to me when entering the McCarren main building, but when I went through to the inner yard (with the aircraft), then into the control tower for a quest, he appeared alongside me inside the tower, and followed me back outside and through the terminal like he should.

My guess is this has something to do with Arcade triggering his comment about the NCR, which happens when you first visit McCarran with him. I had something similar happen to me with Boone when he was supposed to trigger his comment on approaching the ferry to The Fort. It sent him running off to who-knows-where and then on a never ending hike back to me from the edge of the map so he could speak his special comment. They really should have console commands on, well, consoles. -B

loop after his side quest

after his quest he ran put on his Tesla armor and talked to me but now he keeps looping in the remnants meeting area he just spans walks into the holomap thing the disappears and repeats

Weapons?

What weapons can he use? He come with a plasma defender which is pretty good, but I was hoping to give him a plasma rifle or caster or tesla cannon or something. I gave him the Q-35, but he didn't equip it.

  • I finally got him to use a tri-beam laser, which he is ok with. No luck with any other weapon, although I haven't tried the multiplas rifle or the plasma caster.
  • I've tried giving him the tri-beam laser before, and he will use it. But kiss goodbye to all you MF cells. He will eat them up incredibly quickly, and waste a lot of shots trying to hit long-distance enemies. So if you're going to give him a tri-beam, I suggest only giving him ammo for it when you're in-doors. 71.63.129.124 05:08, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Have you been giving him any ammo? I gave him the YCS/186 but he wont equip it without MF cells. --Carthiah 22:51, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

I was able to give him the Q-35 after his Plasma Defender disappeared due to that bug. It was out of a fit of annoyance - he kept dying and I realized it was because he only had a lead pipe in his inventory to use as a weapon. I had read he'd only take certain other weapons before (tribeam, etc), but I knew I didn't have any of them yet, and just dumped every energy weapon and ammo I had into his inventory in a desperate effort to get him to use SOMETHING, and voila, he equipped the Q-35. --38.101.255.135 16:28, December 11, 2010 (UTC)

Geez - he will use anything with good DPS. In my game he has used Cowboy repeater, multiplas, trail carbine, Pew pew, Oh Baby! Whatever is better than his default weapon, (which is pretty good BTW), but you need to give him ammo. He has even switched between the cowboy repeater at mid range, then to his defender pistol at close range, then to Oh Baby at melee range - all in the same attack. I must admit it is something of a mystery exactly what causes the companions to swap, as sometimes he will change weapons when he has ammo left but all weapons are in good condition. It could be tied to the level of the Courier - maybe they gain a damage increase on certain weapons as different levels. I do wish it was more predictable/transparent, (along with being able to tell a companion to NOT waste pulse 'nades on radscorps etc...).

he can also use thermic lances

Just to say, I've seen Arcade use the Ripper many times. He has done kills with it, but of course, melee really isn't his strongest suit.

There_Stands_the_Grass/Thomas_Hildren

I'm not sure if this counts towards getting his quest or not, however, after completing There Stands the Grass Arcade talked to me about Thomas Hildern and reasons for doing research/science. It's possible that this also was triggered when I while handing in the quest, talked to Thomas Hildern about his past at Followers of the Apocalypse and how he played along with their beliefs, to be able to be involved in research, and about his ambitions of possibly heading up OSI.

Van Buren information

Should be deleted, at least the parts about him serving as an Infantryman in the Midwest. F:NV disproves this. Sorry Black Isle Fans 96.237.185.39 16:52, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

So, as I could see, all Van Buren information from Arcade have been removed and can now nowhere else be found. IMO, this is bad. There was not even a Arcade Gannon (Van Buren) page made, prior to the information deletion in here and I'll guess that happens / happened to other Van Buren and New Vegas related articles here. In my opinion, this either has to be done (a new separate page) or the Van Buren information stays in the main article and is marked as such.--Mr.Lexx(talk) 05:01, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

I'd say it should stay in the same article, in a relatively extensive section. Like many characters and elements in New Vegas, he was going to be used in Van Buren and was 'cannibalized' into this game.--DrMGinius 15:52, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
For now, I've made a separate article with information pulled from the edit history relating specifically to the Van Buren Arcade Gannon. --Kris User Hola 18:49, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

No Longer Companion After Side Quest?

Upon completion of For Auld Lang Syne, even if you convince him not to join the Remnants, he still can't keep playing as a companion to the courier? Or do you need to wait for him to return to Freeside in order to get him to join you again?

I'm quite sure he leaves forever after the quest if you tell him to stay in freeside. --NateTher 07:03, November 27, 2010 (UTC)

He's only a temporary companion. He leaves your team once you complete his side quest by either re-joining the Enclave or staying at the Mormon Fort. He is unable to be recruited after that. Sad day for us all.

Well in my game i completed his For Auld Lang Syne and hes still my companion. Hes got T-45d Power Armor and looks pretty badass. :) Ive even let go of him as a companion, simply telling him to return to the Luck 38 and he just casually walks around in the Presidential Suite.

Orientation

Just to work out what the stance is on the main page.

Obviously he never gives us his number on the Kinsey scale (would make things so simple, amirite), but I would argue that Arcade is predominantly homosexual, not bisexual, as:

  • He can be recruited with the aid of the Confirmed Bachelor perk, but not the Black Widow perk.
  • He does not mention having any female lovers, but mentions having had several male ones. "There have been good men along the way, but lovers make poor confidants."
  • He jokes about wanting a man to sweep him off his feet, but he also joked about being affiliated with a fascist paramilitary organization. ;)
After having him as a companion from start to finish, I definitely agree that he's gay. I'm actually curious as to why the article doesn't mention this about him, since he tends to make it blatantly obvious as you've covered. I don't think he was so much joking about wanting a male lover he could trust, either, since that's what he seems to be looking for in the player, if the player is a male character.
And his father DID work for the Enclave. Gannon was well known amongst the last remnants of the Enclave and raised by some of them as guardians, he notes occasionally that he's none too proud of some of the things the Enclave did. So 'affiliated with a fascist paramilitary organisation' would actually fit that to a tee. (77.107.172.208 12:59, November 5, 2010 (UTC))
Yep! Icecrystal2k 19:48, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

It's already mentioned in the article, I see no reason for a separate note specifically pointing out that he's gay. So what? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 13:36, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

This was more in response to how references to his orientation kept getting changed or deleted in the body of the article! This was several days ago, it seems to have coalesced now. Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that we include a separate section in the article itself. Just notes for the talk page. :) Icecrystal2k 19:48, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, sorry for my attitude then. I have a bad habit of assuming bad intentions. How do you like the rewrite? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 23:19, November 5, 2010 (UTC)
I like it! Icecrystal2k 21:23, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Why is his being GAY on the main page in all-caps? Is it some sort of warning? If we're going to label his homosexuality in all caps, can we use the word FABULOUS instead?

Oooooo kay... well, if he's fabulous, and someone talking/complaining about it, then WHY in the name of God, Allah, and Buddha would YOU have the Confirmed Bachelor Perk??? that means YOU are FABULOUS too. No, seriously, what's the problem if he's gay? is his life/ass, you know...

Moreover, all mention of his orientation has once again been stricken from the main page. Despite it being tastefully written a few times, do we have tweens editing the articles, here? I mean, honestly, homophobia much Fallout Wiki? Homophobia much? It's as though if the article is edited to remove this fact about him, the homophobes can pretend that this side of his personality (as one of the more important characters in the game, and one of a number of gay characters in the game) doesn't exist.
I hear the flowing fountains of ignorance are bountiful in blisstopia at this time of year. :/ I suppose it just goes to show that a game like New Vegas is too high-brow in most of its elements (except the obviously puerile ones) for most gamers, and most gamers would rather stick their heads in the sand and pretend that it's just a game fer der gamin' idjits, like most other games.
This, fellow gamers, this is why we can't have nice things. (77.107.172.208 19:28, November 9, 2010 (UTC))

---Is awesome to have a gay character in the game. We can play as a caucasian. as a hispanic. as an african-amaerican, as an asian. as a man, as a woman. and inside those genders, you can choose the perks to become a though macho or AN AMAZING COOL GAY charachter. or a KICK ASS LESBIAN. The fact that people is worried to walk around a video-game with a gay guy tells us people are not ready for the real world.

I am straight, but to me beeing gay is like liking ice cream. or preferring coffee. or liking to wear blue. or having a tendency to drink a beer straight from the bootle. or liking the window seat in planes. It´s just a personal choice. A choice that belongs to the person who made it and no one else. The world is full of people who make choices, so to me, is perfect to have this kind of people inside a video game.

If Arcade beeing gay is a problem, I guess you guys don´t like Veronica, as she is gay too. Or do you also have problems with Cass, she's a drinker. And alcohol is sooooooo bad, right?

I thought this was a 18+ game. But by this discussion, I feel like talking to a bunch of eleven year old hater kids.--- 1

Project isn't homophobic, to the contrary. There is no need to specifically point out that he's homosexual, just like there's no need to point out that eg. Cassidy is as heterosexual as they come. This is equality, not stigmatizing gay characters with notes that point out their sexuality. Be mature and respect that.
Besides, the current version of the article already incorporates information that he prefers male lovers to female. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 20:49, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
Though I agree entirely with your viewpoint, Tagaziel, I must point out that your analysis of Cass isn't quite accurate - judging by a particular comment she makes about when she's drunk... Centerflag982 00:34, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

I think, the solely existence of a section called "orientation" is wrong beyond cultural and moral scales (except for teens that use the word gay for referring lame and in private masturbate with photos of naked men). Such a huge scandal on if he is or is not gay, and no one posts any glitch to have all the companions at the same time and kick some Deathclaw ass!!! (please, don't start something about deathclaws orientation). (Unsigned)

Basically having a part of the article stating that he is homosexual would mean we should make similar edits for every heterosexual or bisexual character too. For example, in FO1, if you are playing as a female and ask Tandi for Fallout Wiki Dweller and her to 'get together', she will says that he likes men. Based on this we would add a section about her orientation in her article. Arcade's article already states that you can recruit him with Confirmed Bachelor, which is enough, I think, for most readers to figure out that he is gay.--DrMGinius 17:32, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Again, I apologize, since I posted this section. I did not create it with the intention that a section called "Orientation" be included in the article main page. I created this section here on the talk page in response to the fact that the article was fluctuating between calling him gay, bi, "possibly gay", just erasing it entirely, etc. Icecrystal2k 20:32, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
I also understand the stance that one would have to note every straight character, every ghoulsexual, robosexual, and so on, if they were going to specifically state homosexual/bisexual characters' sexualities. I just wanted to explain that -- and this is not universal obviously -- there is some measure of anxiety and anger about erasure for some of us of LBGTGQ [etc really long acronym] status in a heteronormative world. There's little need to bring real-world identity politics into this wiki and I'm not opposed to the prevailing stance re: character sexualities, I just wanted to try to articulate where some wiki users may be coming from. I'm pretty sure 9 out of 10 users will automatically assume characters are straight unless it is stated otherwise. In the game, Arcade could have said nothing about his partners and everyone would have blithely assumed he was heterosexual. Straight is "normal" and "default" and "usual". That's symptomatic of heteronormative hegemony. There's a sentiment about representation, as well, but this wiki, again, may not be the time or place. At the risk of this getting even longer and less likely to be read, I'll finish by saying that I agree that the article makes it clear that Arcade prefers male lovers, and I apologize again because I didn't mean for this section to be included in the article itself, just as discussion on the talk page so we'd have consensus when it came to bi/gay/none of the above.:) Icecrystal2k 20:32, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
You have a very good point. In fact mine wasn't, if it was even a point at all; Arcade being homosexual could be kind of relevant to the article, considering it means he belongs to a minority. This wouldn't be offensive at all, as they are certainly less homosexual people than heterosexual persons. Thus, most people would assume him to be straight, like they would assume in regards to most characters. In other words the comparation with Tandi was a pretty bad one. Arcade being gay is as relevant as Fisto being a sex-bot; its something most people wont expect. I know, its a disturbing simile, but New Vegas is a disturbing game anyway. Im now confused about what should be done about this.--DrMGinius 03:18, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
I think mentioning it is fine, but there's no point in devoting a whole section to it. Ausir(talk) 03:26, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Last post removed due to irrelevant content and no author sig. --149.169.47.58 18:18, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

When I spoke to him, he said his line about many men in his life. I politely left conversation with him, and a few hours later I noticed that he had randomly exploded into little tiny pieces, and his blood was EVERYwhere in that tent he sits in. There were two legs in front of his little chair, but pieces and blood everywhere else. Could have been related to some fourteen C4-detpacks I had misplaced earlier. Possible glitch? --Jackarunda 18:24, February 16, 2011 (UTC)

Just put it under the note section, like for Veronica. It's trivia, that be the best place for it.

Will he join me if I go the path of the Legion?

I'm just trying to get the Remnant armor and power armor training(since getting it from the Brotherhood of Steel is glitched) through his quest, but I want to join the Legion, and he won't join me if I do. Oddly, you can ask the Remnants to fight with the Legion. So the entire thing is a big contradiction; I want them to attack the NCR at the dam, but how can I do that if I can't get the quest because he wont join me if I'm Legion?

Any suggestions please? Btron4ever 21:20, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

When recruiting him you need a neutral or lower reputation. After recruiting him you can raise your reputation. However, during my playthrough he had left me since I was helping the legion. I'm assuming if you gain enough trust with him before starting Arizona Killer he may stay. --NateTher 07:03, November 27, 2010 (UTC)

Needs rewrite

"and if you equip Gannon with NCR faction armor,he will offer the quest "

This line is erroneous, unless you mod the game Gannon cannot wear NCR faction armor. Unless I'm missing something/certain conditions?

If you're missing something, I am too. It's the same in my game. When I hand him NCR armor he just drops it at his feet and a message that he can't use it comes up. Deleting for now. If more info comes along, we can always revert it.Icecrystal2k 08:01, November 13, 2010 (UTC)
Dunno why someone thought he could wear that armor, or that it would be a trigger for anything. His triggers aren't related to his attire. --Kris User Hola 12:01, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

I removed the following from the "Notes" section. "Arcade in combat will sometimes put away his weapon and flee." Any companion will do that depending on your CHA score and how the battle is going. - TandyBomb 19:00, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Cleaned up borderline offensive homosexual comment.

I went ahead and removed "Although you can hardly tell, he is homosexual" and added a line to the end of the first paragraph stating that he is homosexual and that the player learns this early upon meeting him

The original line was, I have to say, pretty ugly. "Although you can hardly tell?" meaning that because he doesn't have a lisp and he's not prancing around in lycra he's somehow a stealth gay? This implies that Homosexuals are somehow supposed to be immediately identifiable and that Arcade is bucking that trend. I would point out that Veronica is also gay, and the section referring to her sexuality is much more appropriately written for a wiki entry. Her sexuality is just as understated as Arcade's; It's one small part of a larger character, and the original phrasing was incredibly stereotypical.

Talk about "reading in too much"... 71.169.189.37 03:26, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

Ahh don't listen to that guy... ^ You did a good job making sure the wiki is as informative and neutral as it can be. +10 {Lastchance2010}

I agree with Lastchance. Also, I would like to say that "Stealth Gay" is the name of my next band and "Not Prancing Around in Lycra" will be our break out album. - TandyBomb 18:52, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Gannon's history and sexual orientation as currently written is handled very well. Needlessly re-stating that specific detail in the notes section is not only pointless, but can also be interpreted as being laced with less than neutral intentions. Deleted. Vault Girl 03 April 2011

Where'd he go?

Sent Arcade to the Lucky 38. It has been several in-game days, but I still haven't seen him back in the presidential suite. Also looked around the Old Mormon Fort and he wasn't there. Where'd he go? (X360)

Common bug for companions. See the bugs section under companions. --NateTher 07:03, November 27, 2010 (UTC)

i really need help on this i just did his quest and told him to go back to the old fort and i can't find him i checked the lucky 38 as well??

Arcade Gannon in final battle

I found Arcade Gannon in the visitor center in the final battle... He was defending it with NCR heavy troopers and regular troopers... Why didn't he come along with the remnants?

He's back?

I completed For Auld Synge and had him return to Freeside so he wasn't my companion any more. Then I traveled up near Jacobstown and found him outside in his Follower's lab coat just wandering around. Needless to say I talked to him, he had some speech options but no re-hiring so I left him alone. A few in game days later I return to the Lucky 38, BAM! There he is wandering around my suite, still in his lab coat, still refusing to be my companion. So he wants to live in my house but not help me out? What's up? Anyone else have this problem?

He's in my suite to. 67.169.175.134 05:49, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

Yep sucks big time.First of all i cant even talk to him and second hes taking all my stuff and when he drinks my nuka-cola quartz and i'm in the room i get lo light vision???? lol its very annoying and im on ps3 so i cant fix it :/ And by the way if your on pc and this is happening to you too then email me at fugikid@gmail.com and i'll make a mod adding a script to the game so if the quest is completed and he's in your room he'll automatically be tele-ported to Freeside and remove his package(routine) and items.

EASY FIX. Kill him. --Ccrogers15 07:21, February 25, 2012 (UTC)

How many events to start his quest?

How many events to earn his trust do you need to get to start For Auld Lang Syne? Near as I can tell I'm far enough in the story and I've done all the events I can. I'm a little concerned that it won't be possible to unlock because some of the events are during quests I completed long before recruiting him...Chintzmas 05:32, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

I'm also having this problem. I've had him along with me for quite some time and he's just not opening up. I also think it's odd the entry lists what speech and quest options to select that will piss him off rather then the ones that will give loyalty points. - TandyBomb 19:03, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

All the "like" triggers are on the For Auld Lang Syne page, since that's the only thing controlled by those triggers. There should be a note about that on his character page, though. I'll add something and clarify that the whole section is about what makes him quit. --Dmunsil 19:15, December 7, 2010 (UTC)
He gave me the quest straight away after heading to legion camp and choosing the +2 like option then killing the guards that spawn at the main gate each time you go there (had previously killed caeser and vilified with legion might have effected it)--90.220.126.225 20:25, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

How to get regardless of Legion fame!

I was playing last night and realized I couldn't wear power armor and hadn't felt like messing with the brotherhood who's time remaining was very limited because I'm with the legion and have "liked" status. So I thought of a way to get him so the remnants will teach you how to wear it and hear it is: step one- Achieve "idolized" followers status and join. step two- wear any ncr armor (I used ranger combat armor) step three- exhaust all of his dialog involving him following you multiple times and he should eventually act as if you have no legion fame!! New ending proposal :)

Shortly after the 2nd Battle of Hoover Dam, president Aaron Kimball finally repealed the "don't ask, don't tell" law. Arcade Gannon was finally able to pursue his dream of becoming a field medic in the NCR Army. A few years later he met Craig Boone, and the two became mire-lurking buddies. After they were discharged, they went on to become Bighoner herders and were never able to quit each other.

1. this is not a place for fan-fiction. 2. you must be some kind of moron to think the NCR had a "don't ask, don't tell" policy in place, pay attention! and finally "mire-lurking buddies" sounds creepy as hell, stop. --Katikar 00:40, January 29, 2011 (UTC)

Please note that the endings on the page were taken from actual in-game endings, and were not thought up by Vault contributors. Fan-fiction gets in the way of the real, factual information that Fallout Wiki is based around. Also, "mire-lurking" buddies? Seriously...Otisman 23:20, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Won't rejoin

So, I hired Arcade, then fired him. When I try to rehire him, completely alone (Not even Rex or ED-E with me) he says "It seems like you have quite the menagerie at your disposal. If you can get your posse down to "small gang" size, I'll happily join you." Then, if I hire any other companion and talk to him, he gives me a different line completely, saying something like "2's a group, but 3's a small army." So, I have no idea how to rehire him. Can anyone help me?--With care and happiness, Supermutantslayer450' YOU. LOSE. 03:27, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

I'm having the same problem, 'cept he's freeloading in my Lucky 38 suite. I'm worried he'll eat me out of house and home if I can't rehire him. Servonut 19:06, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

I'm also having the same problem on my 360. I've tried dismissing all my companions to their original spots (instead of the Lucky 38) but that didn't work. Any solutions to this problem yet? --Siminators 02:55, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

If Arcade is just hanging out in the Lucky 38 and you don't have the speech option for him to follow you -- do this: Dismiss all your companions while in the Lucky 38 Presidential Suite. Leave the Suite (doesn't matter what floor). Go back to the Suite. Arcade should be hireable again. If you hire Rex or ED-E before Arcade, he will continue to be unhirable; however, after you hire Arcade, you can get Rex or ED-E after.

Affliation

It says he was formerly affiliated with the enclave's but during his side quest you can get him to rejoin the Enclave, I don't know what Fallout Wiki does based on player options just thought it should be pointed out.--90.220.126.225 20:29, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

Legion safehouse aqquisition + gannon?

Can you go far enough into the Legion storyline to get the Safehouse key and still retain Arcade?

It's easy to go legion and get arcades quest in a few simple steps.

-recruit him while wearing ncr armor(if you have good legion rep) you'll need either high followers rep which can be easily gained by donating chems to the followers or a speech skill of 75.

-kill house and install yes man in his place

-take arcade to the fort, wait for him to initiate dialogue and respond with something like "we're just here to listen to what he has to say, then get out" to which arcade will respond "short of cancelling our imminent travel plans, that's the best thing you could have said".

-The Fort dialogue should earn you the two history points you need, installing yes man gives you the storyline trigger you need and he should then give you the quest.

Latin Quotes

Anyone have the english translation to some of his latin quotes in the game. The one that I'm stuck on is the sentence he speaks after you sell him to Caesar and tell him "The world needs Caesar more than it needs you" he responds with an entire Latin sentence but does not give any translation, he simply finshes with "goodbye" after the quote.

Turn on subtitles, go through the dialog again, and enter it into google translate. Or just check around on the wiki. Maybe they've translated it already.

Daisy

If we take him to Novac before his quest, does he react? He's supposed to be like her son so I'd imagined they'd hug or something.

Arcade doesn't react to any of the Remnants if you meet them before he gives his quest, even if (like Doc Henry) they freely admit to having been a part of the Enclave. I kept him with me for most of my second play through and he was with me when I met every one for the first time. He had nothing to say. --- TandyBomb 19:43, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

What your favorite quests to take Arcade on?

What are your favorite quests to take Arcade on? Other than "For Auld Lang Syne" that is.

Can't recruit Arcade back from Lucky 38

Okay. So I told him that we should split, and to go back to the Lucky 38 ( I can't exactly remember why, but I'm sure it wasn't an important reason). After a while, when I went back to the Lucky 38, he was there, but strangely, the "I think we should travel together" dialogue option does not appear. WTF? And the For Auld Lang Syne quest has NOT been completed yet (nor even activated), if that is relevant. Somebody please help. --unregistered user June 11, 2011

I had this same problem, and finally fixed it by merely getting rid off all companions, then recruiting Arcade. You can then re-recruit your non-human companion. (Also look at at #6 and #23 on this page.) However, if you're having the problem with the bug where ED-E dies or disappears (check out #34 on the ED-E Talk page), then you may not be able to dismiss it as a companion, and thus you may not be able to get Arcade back. --Tharnhelm 17:37, June 13, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure what the cause of this is so I don't want to put it in the Bugs section, but I got the same problem. It happened after I killed Mr. House for the Republic part 2 quest. So the cause might be finishing one of the three quests before gaining his trust, and then telling him to return. PS. thanks for the solution. --KKotton 22:28, June 25, 2011 (UTC)

note on "openly gay"

Him and cass aren't the only ones who are openly homosexual... there's also that one male prostitute... can't remember his name though. 76.198.70.129 06:00, July 2, 2011 (UTC)

You mean Veronica? And looking at the statement you were most likely commenting on, it was only referring to companions in the game. User:Great_MaraUser talk:Great_Mara 06:03, July 2, 2011 (UTC)
uh no not Veronica, she's not a Male prositute. If it was companions only though then ok I guess. I was talking abouut a male prostitute in one of the rundown towns out of vegas, (westside I think) where there is a place to hire 3 prostitues. I was there to do a quest... I swear! 76.198.70.129 00:04, July 6, 2011 (UTC)
You said Cass. And you're probably thinking about Jimmy at the Casa Madrid Apartments. User:Great_MaraUser talk:Great_Mara 00:11, July 6, 2011 (UTC)

There are plenty of gay characters, AND questionably gays as well. Not sure why "gay" is all that everyone sees in Arcade. Sergio one of the Kings' followers (judging stereotypical high pitched voice? Plus he's a hairstylist; just saying.) and Dr. Richards (the medic at Camp Forlorn Hope). Plus Betsy the 1st Recon sniper at the same camp. And the male prostitute might either be Big Ben or Santiago. The smooth talker? I think that's who you're referring too, but they're in Freeside at the Atmoic Wrangler. Kind of mixing things up a little XD

Arcade disapeared

When i started the game he was at the mormon fort but i didn't recruit him becuese i didn't have enough speech and when i was near the end of the game i went to the fort and he wasn't there he was replaced by a follower doctor is there a way to get him back. I'm playing on Xbox 360. Yes hes back!!!

Re-recruiting using console

Okay, So I completed For Auld Lang Syne and accidently saved over my file. I did not want to finish the quest (and therefore lose Arcade) yet.

I can easily reset the quest using console commands, but how would I be able to re-recruit Arcade? When I have tried this, he just starts walking back to the Remnant Bunker (If I have brought him to me) and there are no options for him to tag along. I think I may not be the only one wondering this and I think it could help people to know how to do this. --Graham Stringfellow 09:36, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Companion dismissal terminal fixes rerecruitment bug

I left a note in the bug section (while not logged in) mentioning that using the companion dismissal terminals added by one of the patches will fix the bug where Arcade refuses to join you after being dismissed, implying you have a humanoid companion already even when you don't. Basically just go to one and choose to dismiss all companions whether you actually have any with you or not. Go back to Arcade and you should be able to recruit him again. Worked for me, but I guess it needs verification.--Darth Oblivion 03:07, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

how do we know that? i dont remember mentioning that58.167.13.123 23:54, September 9, 2011 (UTC)

Legion rep only blocks initial hire?

The article claims that having a positive reputation with the Legion makes him not want to join, but that only seems to happen for the first time you hire him. What I mean is, if you hire for the first time, fire him, gain Legion rep, then hire again, he won't mention any problems. I mean, I was able to hire him without a disguise and Idolized with the Legion, so I don't know, it could have been a bug. Positronic Spleen 17:55, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

Honest Hearts

I had to ditch Arcade Gannon before entering the Honest Hearts DLC. After getting out of it I go back to him and it says I can only have one companion at a time, but I don't have any companions? I can still recruit other companions such as Boone etc, But I would prefer this guy xD

-Use the Companion Dismissal Terminal to fire everyone, then try hiring him again.

Aiding Remnant

Does he become unable to be a follower if you make him aid the Remnant? Gschmechel25 01:01, February 5, 2012 (UTC)

He will stop following you at the end of the quest no matter who he helps, either the Remnants or the Followers. Paladin117 16:30, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

== Glitch

so when i try to recruit him it doesn't show the option to ask him so I got rid of Rex but then when I talk to him the option to ask him comes up but when i select it it says I have too many followers when I have no other followers and when I get Rex back the option to ask him goes away again. Is there any way to fix this if i'm not on pc? ==

I cannot seem to sell Arcade into slavery during Et Tumor, Brute. Any help?--JamesiaInc 05:31, April 21, 2012 (UTC)JamesiaInc

Arcades Plasma Defender.

So, I've been reading the bugs section and it says that on the PC if you leave Arcade and Boone in the Lucky 38, Boone will steal Arcade's companion weapon (plasma defender) (I also read that he will steal things from Raul, but I'm no where near getting Raul so I will wait on looking into that)

What I need to know is if this has been fixed?

If not, is there a mod that fixes it (been looking and I can't find one so far)

Or is there a way to fix this if Boone takes the plasma defender (I would both like to know of a way to give Arcade back his gun AND take it away from Boone so he would go back to using his default rifle.)

Triggers he "likes"

When ya'll are done arguing about his virtual sexuality and name origin, could someone get around to posting a list of events/ actions/ statements which trigger his "like" points and activate his Auld Lang Syne quest?

Thanks

Arcade Randomly Gone?

Arcade Gannon seems to have disappeared from my game entirely. I believe I've triggered one dialogue with him towards For Auld Lang Syne, but I haven't done any of his quests yet. To complete Brotherhood of Steel related quests, I split with Arcade and recruited Veronica. Now that I've finished the BoS quests, I intended to get Arcade back, but he's not at the Mormon Fort, or HELIOS One. Niamaia (talk) 22:23, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

Same here. He disappeared afrter I finished BoS quests and I had 1 convo with him towards Auld Lang Syne (+2 points towards it) and he vanished. I found him on top of Black Mountain though. I ended up shooting him in the head a few times because of the bs he caused.--Djdelirius (talk) 02:21, September 5, 2015 (UTC)

Arcade's hands

okay, so some weird junk happened the other day in That Lucky Old Sun. I'm walking around with Arcade in my party, right? So at one point after killing a bunch of Protectrons, i look at Arcade and his hands are missing. his HANDS. WERE. MISSING. Then I look..... his hands weren't actually missing. It was like someone had taken his hands, and bent them so far backwards that his distorted, distended fingers were poking out the outside of his forearms. but they were also still there in the regular place.... just without any fingers. I dunno, weird stuff --Count Creeper373 (talk) 18:43, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

What kind of a name is Arcade anyway?

Were the Van Buren developers fans of indie rock from Canada or something? Noobyorkcity (talk) 23:53, September 8, 2013 (UTC)

I don't know, I mean there's nothing wrong with it.CoD 4 for example the protagonist's name is "Soap". --James9883 (talk) 23:53, October 20, 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that "Arcade" is derivative of "Arcadia," also sometimes referred to as "Arcady." It's a version of utopia or paradise sometimes found in art/literature. As a name it would tie in really nicely to his idealism, as he seems to hope that by gaining independence, New Vegas will become something of a paradise. Of course it doesn't work out for him so well in any iteration of the ending, so it turns out to be kind of ironic. 69.245.95.101 21:15, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

Homophobic response?

I was worried this would happen. Gamers tend to lean towards sociopathic responses as par the course, as their lack of interactions with other real people stunt their ethical and emotional maturity.

I thought after the prior management had gone away, this would be fixed. But here we go again. It's reverted.

There are loads of people pointing out on this talk page that Gannon is gay, and he's a bi-romantic gay at that. If you actually pay attention to his dialogue. I will admit that this means that you need to actually act against laziness to check this out, but it's there.

  • Confirmed Bachelor allows you to flirt with him, and he talks about wanting a man to sweep him off his feet.
  • He mentions some important women in his life that he was very emotionally close to. One of them being Daisy.
  • He mentions that whilst he finds men physically attractive, he believes lovers to be poor confidants. He tends to find confiding in people easier with emotional attachments.

If you want evidence of this: Open up the GECK, load FalloutNV.esm, find the VFSArcadeGannon NPC, open his dialogue, then you can export it to a txt file to read. You'll find that everything I'm saying is true. And even if you don't believe that I'm correct about the bi-romantic part, removing the homosexual element entirely is nothing more than a homophobic response.

It's typical, I guess, and I don't expect it to change.

But if you want evidence, it's right there in the game. I guess new management didn't change anything around here.

Rather than a "Homophobic Response", what I see here is a knee jerk reaction from yourself.

Looking at the edit of 27 December 18:54, which is what I believe you refer to, the only item marked for "Citation required" is the claim added that Arcade is "Bi Romantic". This is outlined clearly in the edit summary on yours

Undo revision 2053326 by 77.107.172.208 (talk) Ok, that source says that he is gay. Where is the source saying he is bi-romantic?)— Edit Summary

The page does now, as it did then, confirm that Arcade has had male lovers. That he has had homosexual relationships is not in dispute. You'll find this in the relationships section.

In order to support a claim of "bi-romantic", you'd need to provide evidence of a heterosexual relationship. "Emotionally close to" doesn't cut it - You can be emotionally close to a friend or confidant, it is not proof of a sexual relationship

In short, there's nothing homophobic here. The fact that Arcade has had gay relationships is shown and non controversial. The following claim that he is "bi-romantic" has been removed as there has been no evidence offered to its truth.

If you do have evidence that he has hetrosexual relationships, then you are welcome to present it. Agent c (talk) 13:07, February 5, 2014 (UTC)
