a threat?[]

why does this article talk about ant queens as if it were some big threat or terrible enemy like a deathclaw or behemoth? this is one of the easiest enemies in the game, they do little damage and move so slowly they will never hit you. this enemy is a damage sponge, a meat shield and is less threatening than her children.70.30.13.152 23:09, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Ant Queen Random death[]

For some strange reason, when I entered the right wing part of the factory next to the room with the ant queen, I could see the ant queen and target her in VATS, but as I was being attacked by many ant workers / soldiers, I killed them all first and then moved into the at Queen room. However, the Ant queen now appeared to be lying on the ground, dead, and could be searched. It also appeared to be missing it's right legs. It seems possible that other ants could have frenzied and attacked the queen, but I didn't actively attack the ants' antennae and I don't think any of them got away anyway. I certainly didn't attack the queen at any point, nor use a weapon in it's direction, so could this be caused by a glitch or is there a reasonable explanation? Has this been noted happening before? --Churkirby 19:18, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

It could have been a misfire and it hit one of the cars, causing a massive explosion. ReMPXj3 - Nuke Eater Blab 19:23, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

Ant Queen in New Vegas[]

Just found a Giant Ant queen in New Vegas, located in the Ant Mound (Which is just northwest of REPCONN HQ). I figured I'd leave a note here, since I have no experience in editing wiki.

ant queen = ant spawn?[]

Does the giant ant queen in F:NV have anything to do with respawning more giant ants? This would seem logical, and similar to how the Alpha male and Deathclaw Mother seem to be responsible for spawning new deathclaws.

If this is true, I want to hold off on killing the ant queen so I can have more ants to hunt.

Also, if I kill her, will she respawn? I doubt it, but just wanted to hear if anyone knows for sure.

Giant Ants around Megaton[]

Giant ants have frequently attacked Megaton in my game around level 20 - 27. Nearly every time I actually exit the city Deputy Weld is fighting one near the door. Often times scaring away the merchant caravans until it is killed. That would likely explain why there are giant ant carcases around Megaton's door.Snake2410 07:01, November 21, 2009 (UTC)

Giant ants are of the Atta genus[]

Altough it is suggested that they descend from carpenter ants, giant ants in Fallout 3 are modeled after the Atta cephalotes species (leaf-cutters) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atta_(genus). The head shape and the spines on their back are characteristic. This is further sustained by the fact that you can find abundant fungi around the nest entrance and in the queen's chamber at Shalebridge. Atta ants don't feed on the leaves they cut but use them as fertilizer for fungi, which is their food.
