Taichi Nakano was the late grandfather of Kasumi Nakano. He was the one who taught Kasumi how to work with electronics from a young age. He has passed away by 2287; a gravemarker on the hill west of the Nakano residence has been erected in his memory. It describes him as a grandfather, sailor, and engineer.
