Sophia was a Brotherhood of Steel Scribe, an instructor for the Brotherhood Initiates around 2161. Her area of expertise was the history of the Brotherhood.
She complains that even many other Scribes, such as Vree, don't care about history, and some initiates don't even know who Roger Maxson, the founder of the Brotherhood, was. She gave the Vault Dweller a holodisk about the early history of the Brotherhood (see: Sophia Tape).
