Saturnite is a polymer material[1] developed at Big MT for use in a variety of fields, for the creation of household tools or weapons.

Background[]

Saturnite is a ceramic-like polymer alloy first developed at the Saturnite alloy research facility at Big Mountain Research and Development Center. It was used in the production of several experimental products, including cosmic knives (which were marketed as having the "World's Sharpest Edge"),[2] the D-25A power fist, experimental armor plating,[3] and artillery shells.[4]

The building belonging to the corporation that owned and distributed Saturnite cosmic knives was located in Ashton. However, after the Great War, as the Divide was born, the building collapsed into the newly formed fissure.

Although some other high-end technologies such as the MPLX Novasurge are suggested to be based off of alien technology, nothing suggests that Saturnite is one of those technologies. The name "Saturnite" is merely a brand name based on its marketing as a "space-age" alloy.

Characteristics[]

The alloy that makes up the Pre-War kitchen knives is unknown, and seems to have decayed in contact with the toxic cloud.Loading screen, Dead Money

The actual composition of Saturnite is never revealed, though it has many unique characteristics similar to other real-life polymers. In the form of unprocessed ingots, Saturnite appears a dull bluish-grey, but is silvery-white when refined, and turns a grungy, rusty brown color when exposed to The Cloud (some Saturnite products have vibrant teal colors, but this is simply paint). Saturnite is lightweight but very tough and sturdy, even able to completely resist small-arms fire when used as armor plating, and can be easily molded into different shapes. As a blade, it can be made incredibly sharp, to the point where it is almost impractical, able to slice off fingers and break cutting boards with little effort if one is not careful.[5] Aside from being able to hold an edge, Saturnite can also retain high heat for an extremely long time, and can hold its shape even when heated to a red-hot glow (though it does lose some of its durability).[6]
