Sanctuary Hills is a location in the Commonwealth in Fallout 4, where the Sole Survivor and their family used to live before the Great War. It is one of the places the player can choose to build a settlement in.
Layout
Before the War, Sanctuary Hills was a friendly town, where many townsfolk lived. It is the place where the Sole Survivor lived with their partner, child, and Codsworth, the robot butler. Like many places in the United States, Sanctuary Hills was destroyed by an atomic bomb; citizens that were elected by Vault-Tec went into Vault 111. However, only one returned, the Sole Survivor.
After the war, Sanctuary Hills was reduced to ruins, its only residents being radroaches. Fortunately, the town has some basis to become a good settlement, for very few critters pass by the area.
Notable loot
- Grognak the Barbarian, inside The House of Tomorrow
- You're SPECIAL!, in Shaun's room, under the dresser.
- There is an abundance of gold bars and a safe in the root cellar at the rear of the house north of The House of Tomorrow.
- There is an Advanced Safe on the floor, in the blue house right beside the bridge.
- There is a Novice Safe in the yellow house directly east of the workshop bench. Be careful as it is rigged to explode.

Notes
- Attempting to leave pre-war Sanctuary Hills via any method other than the path to Vault 111 will result in the bomb being dropped instantly. Needless to say this results in instant death. However, you can revisit pre-war Sanctuary Hills after the prologue by opening the console (Tilde key) and entering in: coc PreWarSanctuaryExt01
- There is a abandoned military vehicle right of Sanctuary Hills, with a fusion core.
