Sally Hemings (c. 1773 – 1835) was a mistress of Thomas Jefferson.
Born into slavery in Virginia around 1773, Hemings was owned by Thomas Jefferson's wife, Martha. Later, after Martha's death, she came under the ownership of Thomas Jefferson himself.
The two are believed to have had a sexual relationship while staying in Paris, where slavery had been abolished. Jefferson later on freed all of Hemings' children from slavery, but not Hemings herself.
